Rise Of The Whirling Tides.
Chapter 7: The Legacies Part II.
31 Years Before:
Uzushiogakure no Sato;
"I don't like it, Hotaru."
"I know, but Mada-kun, what choice do we have?"
"She's our daughter, the heiress to the clan. Of course there is a choice! Just tell Senju where to..."
Kushina peaked around the corner into the kitchen where her parents were talking. Both had aged gracefully, but were still in their late fifties to early sixties, having had her very late in life.
Her mothers hair already had a few strands of lightening hair, though it was still dark, it was more light auburn than the Uzumaki red. Her father looked somewhat older than her mother, which wasn't so unusual, he was older by some years, and he didn't have the Uzumaki longevity.
Still, neither looked much older than their late forties, early fifties.
That wasn't what was important though, her parents had been arguing more lately. Ever sense the messenger hawk from Konoha had arrived. She'd asked, but her parents wouldn't speak of it. Her mother seemed sadder lately though, and more stressed, while her father was more ill tempered. Not exactly to Kushina, but in general.
"Is that what this is about? Is it because Mito-sama asked it..."
"Please, Hotaru, don't call that woman that in front of me. I know she's your mother's cousin, but you don't have to refer to her with such respect anymore. You are the Uzumaki clan head, not her."
"I thought you'd gotten over your hatred of Konoha and the Senju clan. Madara, please don't bring back all that type of thinking...Kushina doesn't need to begin seeing our cousin clan as the enemy too. You knew this might happen when we married...I told you!"
"I'm sorry, Taru-chan...maybe you're right. I knew this could happen, but why Kushina? Even after she was born I always assumed that Mito would ask for someone, but to ask for the clan heiress? If she does go to..that place, then who will take your place in the future? They won't allow her to leave once it's over...and what if they find out who she is? Hotaru, it's too dangerous. If my former clan finds out who she is..."
"They won't. I've already thought of this. Kushina takes more after the Uzumaki in appearance, and she's rather good with Genjutsu. She can hide her Sharingan should she activate it, and she knows not to let anyone know outside the village who you are. As for the one who'll take over as heir... my cousin's son is the closest relation who could do so."
Kushina saw her father pinch the bridge of his nose, exhaling as if exhausted. Tears prickling at her eyes, and she couldn't help but wonder if her parents were upset with her. If they were trying to get rid of her; did she do something wrong? Was she not worthy of being heiress anymore?
She thought she'd been doing well in training. She'd manged to do the Great Fireball Technique not long ago, her father had seemed really proud of the fact too.
"I still don't like it, Hotaru-chan."
"I know. I know you have your problems with Konoha and the Senju, but Mito won't allow Kushina to be hurt. The Uchiha clan will never know who Kushina really is, no one will, and as for the Senju...it's not like they're a big clan anymore. Most were killed during the Second Shinobi War."
Kushina noticed her father smirk slightly as he kissed her mother on on the forehead.
"I know, it was a day to remember," Madara muttered, leading Hotaru to roll her eyes and snort.
Madara was about to speak again when he noticed the flash of red hair from the doorway leading into the hall. He sighed, shaking his head. Of all the things Kushina had to inherit from her uncle Izuna, it had to be her curiosity and desire to eavesdrop.
"Kushina, you can come out now. Your mother and I have something to tell you."
.
.
.
Present Day;
Mito groaned as she felt her back hit the tree, though not as hard as she could have without having already slowed herself and Sasuke down through her wind affinity, though just barely.
Even still, Mito sank to the ground on her butt, Sasuke nearly in her lap.
"You okay, kid?" she asked. As if she were watching in slow motion, Sasuke shook his head to clear it and looked up with widening eyes. "Sasuke?"
"You...you have the Sharingan," he stated, and by this point they were both on their feet. Mito's eyes grew wide in realization; she'd forgotten to deactivate her Sharingan in her hurry to get to her team and Kakashi's.
She sighed, shaking her head.
"Now is not the time, Sasuke," Mito said, and she looked to the two missing-nin, currently at a stand still.
It was as if they were waiting for her and Sasuke to recover. Either they were powerful or arrogant. Maybe both.
"Oh, look Rokushō, another Uchiha...pretty little thing isn't she?" a brunette man, in his mid twenties said. He also had a hitai-ate with the marks of Amegakure.
His partner was a slightly younger looking man with dark green hair, and strangely purple eyes. Mito recognized both from the Bingo Book.
"Strange, I've never seen an Uchiha with such coloring," Aoi Rokushō.
"Wait, she's a Uchiha?" Sakura asked, wide eyed.
Other than Team Six everyone was taken by surprise. Kakashi was the most surprised by the turn of events. To have a Sharingan one of her parents had to be an Uchiha. That made no sense to him, he'd been there during Kushina's pregnancy, and there was no way the redhead cheated on Minato.
Mito also took after Minato quite a bit, even if she physically looked like her mother more. Mito had the same blue eyes as Minato, and the spikiness of her hair was unlike Kushina's.
Thinking logically, Kakashi realized it must be one of her parents being related somehow. He knew it wasn't through Minato's side of the family, so that left Kushina who's past was kind of a mystery.
She'd been brought to Konoha just years before Uzushio's destruction, and she never really talked of her parents when she'd been alive. He only knew her mother had died in Uzushio because he'd been there to see her grave, which gave only a name.
Hotaru U. Uzumaki. He'd bet anything that U had meant Uchiha. But that still left the question of which of Kushina's parents had been an Uchiha.
"I'm different," Mito muttered, and gripped her tantō tightly in a reverse grip. The Whirlpool Kenjutsu style was unique, as it worked for a blade of any size, the exception being kunai as they were commonly too small to competently be used with the Hiten Uzumaki-Ryū (飛天渦巻流; Flying Heaven Whirlpool-Style). "I'm only going to give you one chance. Leave; take Zabuza and his companion with you, and leave. Gatō is dead."
"That little midget might believe he owns us since he hired us, but we'll see about that," the dark haired one said, grinning in a way that made Mito believe he was unhinged.
"Don't kill them all, we can take the females back to Amegakure..."
"Maybe you can Rokushō, but I left Ame for a reason. I can't go back, don't plan on it either. I just want to fight the Uchiha girl."
Mito's eyes narrowed, and she decided to act quickly. If she was lucky she could get rid of one of them without much of a fight.
"Aoi Rokushō, formally of Konoha, became a missing-nin after stealing the Nidaime's sword, the Raijin no Ken (Sword of the Thunder God). Kirisame, missing-nin of Amegakure, and Mizuki, missing-nin of Konoha."
Mizuki unlike the other two, was a man with white hair, and an extremely large Fūma Shuriken on his back. He narrowed his eyes at the redhead dangerously.
"You look familiar girl," he spoke, and Mito chuckled.
"I'm sure I do," she said, clearly amused.
She didn't wait for one of the three missing-nin to attack, instead she almost seemed to disappear except for a slight flash of crimson as she used Akupo to it's fullest speed to attack, heading for Kirisame first. Her tantō met Kirisame's kunai, and the fight began.
Team Six helped Team Seven with Mizuki, while Kakashi began his battle with Aoi.
.
.
.
Kirisame ducked under the swing of Mito's blade, and managed to grab her wrist as he stood back up straight. He brought the wrist down on his knee, causing her tantō to go flying out of her hand.
"You're pretty bad at this, sweetheart," Kirisame mocked, laughing as he threw a kick at her head.
Mito just stared, her Sharingan spinning, and Kirisame was shocked when the redhead dispersed into a colony of butterflies which were black, red, orange, white, and a mix of all these colors.
It was a technique she'd created similar to a technique Itachi was fond of, except Itachi used crows. She called her version the Chō Bunshin no Jutsu (Butterfly Clone Technique).
She reappeared behind him. A foot rammed into Kirisame's back, sending him flying into a tree, which splintered slightly at the force of the kick and him hitting it.
"I'm just getting started," Mito said. She was holding her right arm out at her side, her tantō in hand, showing she'd never lost it to begin with.
.
.
.
Menma panted as he once again got to his feet. Whoever this Mizuki guy was he certainly wasn't a push over if he could handle them all.
Though, they weren't attacking him together or recklessly. Mariko was a bit of a strategist, and had worked out a plan in record time. The problem was distracting Mizuki long enough to enact it.
Sakura was probably their weakest link, though she had improved somewhat in the last few days. Mariko was preparing her Iwa-Ken no Jutsu (Art of The Rock Fist).
While Mariko did that, Sai and Yakumo was watching her back, in case Mizuki were to interrupt, or one of the other missing-nin got past Kakashi and Mito.
Sasuke, Suigetsu, and Menma were all faced with Mizuki, while Sakura helped Yakumo and Sai.
"He's no push over," Menma said, standing up straight after catching his breath.
Sasuke wiped the blood from his chin, and nodded.
"Hn, it's no surprise. He was a teacher aid at the Academy. No one knew what happened to him, till now," he said, and Suigetsu just grinned, pulling his sword out in front of him.
"Doesn't matter either way, I'm still gonna cut him apart!"
Menma and Sasuke watched as he ran towards a chuckling Mizuki. In a show of skill, Mizuki countered Suigetsu's strikes with his Fūma Shuriken. Suigetsu growled as his cuts were blocked. He'd only ever seen one of the Fūma clan back in Uzushio block his sword strikes with a Fūma Shuriken of all things.
"Doton: Doryū Taiga (Earth Release: Earth Flow River)," Menma said, and mud shot at Suigetsu and Mizuki.
Suigetsu was quickly out of the way, liquifying partially in the process. Sasuke's eyes widened, he'd been sure Menma had lost his mind and would hit his teammate as well. To his surprise the shark-like boy had partially liquified into water.
"What, but how did he..." he muttered.
"It's a bloodline, but there's no time, we need to finish this," Menma told him, and Sasuke nodded, Sharingan narrowed as he flashed through hand-seals.
"Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu (Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique)!"
Mizuki barely had time to avoid the fire, as he recovered from the blonde brats lucky shot with the earth jutsu. Unfortunately, for him, he landed right were they wanted him; in Mariko's path.
"Iwa-Ken no Jutsu (Art of The Rock Fist)!"
Mizuki looked up to find the orange haired girl descending on him. Her hand was curled into a fist and covered in heavy rock along with her forearm, the same could be said for her feet and shins. As she landed a punch to his face, sending him back across the ground, he was surprised by the genin's level of taijutsu.
It was as good as most rookie chūnin. He found it difficult to defend from it, especially with the jutsu she was using to cover her hands and feet in rock.
While Mariko fought Mizuki, the rest of Team Six and Seven regrouped. They noticed how Mariko beat Mizuki around, almost with ease; Mizuki was so caught off guard with Mariko's skill he found it hard to keep track of the orangette's strikes, but he sure could feel them.
Finally after nearly two minutes Mizuki was launched back into a tree, snapping the trunk slightly by the fierce haymaker-roundhouse combo used by the girl. Landing on the ground, the rocks around her arms and legs crumbled away like broken glass.
Mariko breathed heavily, completely tired out. Despite having large chakra reserves and high stamina characteristic of an Uzumaki, she was still unable to use that particular jutsu for much longer than a minute and half.
It also took a minute or so to build up the earth chakra need for it. The control and chakra it took was fairly significant. Mito had listed it as an B-rank technique because of these facts.
Still, that was the first time she'd been able to hold it so long, and use it in battle at all. Before she'd only been using it in training and spars.
"Impressive," Sai said as he sent out some of his exploding ink beast to try and keep Mizuki down. Sai doubted that had done more than disorient and slow Mizuki down.
"Thanks," Mari said, slowly getting back to her feet.
There was a loud explosion, and when it cleared Mizuki stood, clothes tattered and somewhat bloody, looking as if he had some trouble standing.
"Fucking...brats." Mizuki spat a glob of blood from his mouth. "I'll rip you all apart!"
The white haired traitor of Konoha pulled out a pill and swallowed it. The seven genin watched with wide eyes, and horror, as the man began to change.
It was shy Yakumo who said what they were all thinking.
"Shit."
.
.
.
"Kakashi, its been years," Aoi said in a mocking manner.
He had the Raijin no Ken out, ready to be used, and Kakashi narrowed his eye at the former Konoha-nin.
"Rokushō," Kakashi said, voice leaking ice. "You made a mistake attacking."
"How so? I'll be greatly rewarded for killing the Copy-nin of Konoha," Aoi boasted, smirking. "With the Raijin no Ken, I'm unstoppable."
Taking a moment to see how his genin and the Uzushio team were doing, he revealed his Sharingan. He would have to be serious about this fight. His fight with Zabuza a few days ago had opened his eyes to how complacent he'd become after leaving ANBU. After this mission he'd have to begin training more, in order to get back to his former skill level.
"We'll see," Kakashi muttered, and the fight began.
Despite not being able to use the Raijin to it's full capabilities, Kakashi could see Aoi had some skill with it. His greatest pitfall was he relied far too much on the Raijin no Ken.
Still, as Kakashi dodged a slash from the lightning sword that would have undoubtedly left him without his left arm, he knew Aoi wasn't all talk. If not for the Sharingan he'd not have been able to dodge all of Aoi's attacks, and probably would have more damage than the minor cuts he currently had.
Throwing out his right fist, he was satisfied with the loud snapping sound he heard when it connected with Aoi's face, nearly causing the missing-nin to drop his weapon as he flew back across the ground harshly.
Kakashi took a few seconds to catch his breath, still not completely one hundred percent after his fight with Zabuza. Going through hand-seals, Kakashi sent out one of the very few wind jutsu's he knew.
"Futon: Kamikaze (Wind Release: Divine Wind)."
Kakashi knew his jutsu would only slow Rokushō down, but he'd only used the jutsu to give Mito an opening. He'd noticed a few seconds before that she'd dealt with Kirisame, though he appeared to still be alive, just unconscious.
While Aoi focused on Kakashi, using the Raijin to cut through the divine winds – something Kakashi knew was possible since the Raijin wasn't ordinary lightning chakra, and could overpower it's weakness of wind chakra as a result – Mito had already gotten behind Rokushō using her Akupo in quick succession.
If Aoi Rokushō noticed the quick flash of crimson of Mito's approach it was already to late, and he barely avoided a kick to the back of the head.
Mito gracefully jumping back to avoid the Raijin cutting into her abdomen. Aoi was forced to duck, and dodge as she went on the offensive, using her unique and rather unpredictable forms of Taijutsu to attack him.
She was as fast as any jōnin, faster than most he'd encountered, and her Taijutsu was just so unpredictable Aoi couldn't think past avoiding it. Which he barely could, it was only thanks to the Raijin no Ken that she seemed to have trouble attacking all out.
Still he took hits. So did she with the Raijin, but very few, and nothing more than a few shallow cuts which healed quickly.
Kakashi watched with some pride and awe. Mito was practically dominating the fight, but he wasn't too surprised. She had a fully matured Sharingan, and he knew she wasn't voted in as Uzushio's Kage for nothing.
She was bound to be skilled and powerful, if not Kage level already she would be before she was twenty, but he got the impression she was holding back. He had to remind himself that she was also the jinchūriki of the Kyūbi.
Not only that but she was engaging someone with a very dangerous sword in Taijutsu alone. The fact she could do that, with only some cuts and gashes which seemed to heal within seconds to a minute depending on severity, said a lot.
He recognized her Taijutsu as a mix of the Uchiha Interceptor Fist, the Kazeken (Wind Fist) of the Namikaze clan, and Uzuken (Vortex Fist) of the Uzumaki clan. They were all three fearsome styles, and Mito seemed to have combined three of the most deadly Taijutsu styles together.
Kakashi noticed almost immediately when Aoi made his biggest mistake; he looked into Mito's eyes, and was rooted to the ground long enough for Mito to strike the pressure points in his back and arms that left Aoi truly paralyzed, and not because of a short lived Sharingan Genjutsu.
"What?" Aoi muttered, his voice strained as he tried to move.
Mito smirked at him, walking to the side and putting some distance between them. On her way past him, her hand snaked around the Raijin no Ken, prying it from his now loosened grip.
"I'll take that," she said, and nodded at Kakashi. "He's all yours, Kakashi-nii."
Kakashi nodded, and went into a series of seals. Lightning flared around his hand, and he took off towards Rokushō.
"Raikiri," he spoke as his arm entered Aoi's back and burst out his chest.
"Damn...you," Aoi muttered as he dropped to the ground after Kakashi had removed his arm.
Mito looked from the scene to where the two genin teams were, looking a bit worse for ware, some more beat up than others. One thing she did notice was Mizuki was nowhere to be seen.
"Menma, where is Mizuki?" she asked.
"He's here, Mito-sama," Sai answered for them, looking the least injured of the genin. Even Sakura was holding her wrist awkwardly.
The pale boy held up his scroll or one of them in any case, and Mito blinked at seeing the drawing of a tiger-like man who looked like Mizuki and two large tigers pinning him down. She inspected it for a few seconds before a smile broke out on her face.
"My, that's quite the sealing technique. Looks to be permanent as well," Mito handed the scroll back to him. "I assume this ability is unique to you?"
Sai nodded, an unknown emotion coursing through him at the praise of the Uzukage. An Uzumaki, a clan he knew were known for their Fūinjutsu. Pride, he thought it might be.
"I don't know if it can be learned. Only I've accomplished it."
"Impressive," Mito began. "Maybe in the future you can learn to capture enemy-nin temporarily, so you can unseal them for your T&I Division."
Sai blinked, having never really thought of that before. His smile was almost real this time. "Thank you, for the advice Mitoko-sama. I'll look into that."
"Right, anyway," Menma began, preparing to give the report he'd been asked for. "Sasuke, Suigetsu, and I fought Mizuki first, while Sakura, Sai and Yakumo protected Mariko to buy her more time for her jutsu. After Mari attacked and was actually doing some damage to him, he took out a pill. He changed into a tiger-man-thing. Mari helped us attack, but he was stronger than before, a lot stronger. Sai gave Yakumo the signal to begin her Genjutsu while he covered her, and a minute or two later she was able to catch Mizuki in a Genjutsu. Sai took this advantage and sent out the Tigers he'd been working on discreetly, and Mizuki was soon sealed into the scroll he showed you."
"Good job," Kakashi said, giving them one of his infamous eye-smiles. "I'm proud of you all. Not many can show such teamwork, especially not with a foreign team."
"So what now?" Suigetsu asked, a bloodthirsty grin making its way onto his face. "Do we get to cut that Gatō person down yet, Sensei?"
Mito coughed slightly taken aback by the timing of his question, before she smiled almost sheepishly. "Hmm, about that, I've already taken care of it."
Suigetsu's eyes bulged and his sword struck the ground though remained in his hand. "What...but Sensei..."
Mito chuckled.
"Don't be so depressed, Suigetsu, I only killed Gatō and a few of his guards. There is still his base to take care of, and I have a clone setting up some explosive tags. There will still be a few that get out of the blast in time."
Team Seven figured taking out Gatō was the Uzushio teams mission to begin with, though they were surprised Genin were allowed on that sort of mission.
What they didn't understand was Uzushio – unlike Konoha – didn't have the luxury of picking and choosing their missions quite yet.
They were quickly reaching that point, and they could choose some missions unlike the first few years they'd been active, but they still needed time to become more well known.
"Awesome," Suigetsu said, grinning once more.
"What about Zabuza and his apprentice?" Yakumo asked.
"I guess that depends on if they know their employers dead," Kakashi answered, and Mitoko shook her head.
"I have a clone pretending to be him. As long as no one attacks and dispels it, it'll last a week or two."
"We should get rid of the bodies," Sakura said suddenly. "Bury them or something."
Suigetsu snorted.
"Stupid, you don't bury a missing-nin's body...or any body from another village," Suigetsu said, rolling his eyes.
"He's right about that. In a lot of cases bodies are cremated to preserve village secrets, unless it can be returned to their village for burial," Kakashi admitted, and Mito walked over to Aoi, cut off his head and did the same with Kirisame...or she would have it he wasn't already gone.
"Dammit! He's gone," she exclaimed, shaking her head she sealed Aoi's head into a storage scroll, and walked back towards the others.
Part of Team Seven looked startled or traumatized (Sakura) over the sudden beheading of their enemy. Or how calmly Mito had done so, but Team Six only seemed to grimace. As if they were prepared for this sort of thing, which they probably had been.
"Do you want the head Kakashi?" she asked. "You did kill him."
Kakashi shook his head. "No, but we will have to talk about the Raijin no Ken..."
Mito held up a hand to interrupt him.
"Don't, I plan to return it to the rightful owner. A sign of goodwill between Uzushio and Konoha I suppose."
Kakashi raised an eyebrow. "You're coming to Konoha?"
Mito nodded, tucking the Raijin no Ken into a loop on her belt made for holding swords and scrolls.
"In a few months, for the exam. Now for the body," she said, taking a few steps back.
They all did the same and watched as she shot a stream of fire from her mouth without so much as a word. The body was soon reduced to little more than ash. Sakura was the only one to look more than a bit ill, but that was extremely common among civilian raised genin.
Kakashi looked to the sky for a second before he said, "Let's head back to Tazuna's and hope no one was sent after them."
"Even if someone was the seals around the house will stop anyone with intent to harm them from entering. Only someone experienced in Fūinjutsu or an Uzumaki would be able to take that barrier down," Mito told everyone as they headed back to Tazuna's at a fast pace.
.
.
.
There was a group of bandits around the activated seal barrier when they arrived at Tazuna's. They were easily dealt with, which Suigetsu was quite happy with. Being able to cut something apart (or someone as the case was), maybe a little more than was healthy.
The night that came after this was rather uneventful, but they took the time to rest while they could. It was decided that her clone would continue to pretend to be Gatō. In a few days they'd take care of Gatō's base and hired bandits and shinobi, as well as Zabuza.
The only flaw was that her clone, the one left to set up the explosives had found a room where Gatō kept slaves, women and young teenagers.
Some no older than Mariko, Sakura, or Yakumo. She'd talked to Kakashi about it, and ended up sending a more durable Akuchi Bunshin to free the slaves. The Akuchi Bunshin would then stay in the room to kill anyone who entered.
Hopefully it wouldn't cause too much attention. If her clone had to she could create Kage Bunshin to take the guards who she killed place. Hopefully Zabuza would make a move soon. After dinner Mito left once again to find Sasuke, who'd disappeared onto the roof.
She knew she owed the boy an explanation about her Sharingan. Even after she'd deactivated it hours ago, Sasuke would still look at her in confusion and question. Maybe even some anger. Mito was actually surprised he hadn't demanded an explanation already, being one of the last of his clan.
"How are you?" she asked, appearing on the roof and taking a seat beside the younger boy. "Kakashi mentioned this was your first C-rank, and kill."
"Technically, Sai was the one who killed Mizuki," Sasuke muttered. "I'm fine, I guess."
"Hn, if you say so," she said, allowing her legs to dangle over the edge, and she sighed. "You asked how I had the Sharingan. I think I owe you that explanation now."
Sasuke looked over at the older Kunoichi, and nodded. He had wondered, and it had taken a great deal of self control to stop the questions he wanted answers to.
"My mom never told me you were an Uchiha. I don't really understand it, your surname is Namikaze-Uzumaki," he said.
"Mikoto-Obachan wouldn't have told you. She knew how my mother wanted to hide the fact we had Uchiha blood from the clan and Konoha in general. She doesn't know the details though. You can tell your mother some things, such as meeting me and finding out I have the Sharingan, but you must keep what I'm about to tell you to yourself. I'm not ready for it to become common knowledge."
After several seconds Sasuke nodded, and Mito began to explain.
"I get my Uchiha blood from my mother. My maternal grandfather was an Uchiha who left the clan when they had a disagreement. My name is Uzumaki because my mother's name was. When my grandfather married my grandmother, the former clan head of the Uzumaki clan, and they had my mother, Kushina, they gave her the Uzumaki name. Seeing as she was the clan heiress it was only appropriate, and it protected her. They didn't want my grandfather's enemies to find out he was still alive and had a daughter."
Mito caught her breath, and continued.
"Very few knew my mom's heritage. Me, and my father were the only ones to know of my grandfather's identity. I only learned more when I activated my Sharingan."
"When was that?" Sasuke asked.
"The night the twins and I left Konoha, when I was eight," she answered.
Sasuke was silent wondering who her grandfather could be, there weren't any Uchiha who'd left or been banished from the clan. At least...not since Madara Uchiha battled the Shodaime Hokage at what was now known as the Valley of the End, but that was impossible.
Looking at Mito, Sasuke compared her looks to the pictures of Madara still in the clan archives. He'd come across them once or twice with his mother. It was almost instant, now that he was actually looking for it, that he noticed the similarities between Madara and Mitoko...aside from gender that is.
Mito had a similar jaw shape, only it was a little rounder and not as masculine. Her hair was also styled similarly, though red instead of black, and they both carried a Gunbai – which he considered might be the same Gunbai. If she were male it would probably be more obvious.
"Your grandfather...who was he?" he asked, and Mito looked at him with a surveying look.
She'd been waiting to see if he would ask that. To see if he caught onto her hints or not.
"I think you already have an idea of that..."
Sasuke shook his head.
"But that's impossible! He was killed by the Shodai at the Valley of the End!"
"Was he?" Mito asked, and chuckled lightly. She wasn't very surprised he had figured it out, Itachi had figured it out just as quickly. "Sometimes what we think we know of History isn't the entire truth. My grandfather was Madara Uchiha, he did survive the battle, though barely. He eventually found his way to Uzu no Kuni where he met my grandmother. They married many years later, and had my mother; Kushina Uchiha-Uzumaki."
For nearly two minutes there was complete silence. Sasuke was visibly shaken by the revelation, and Mito simply continued to stare off into the distance, taking in the stars shinning in the night sky.
"I guess I can see why you don't want everyone knowing just yet," Sasuke muttered, still trying to wrap his mind around the fact Madara, one of the most feared and powerful shinobi to live in the last century had survived a battle which was historic. He really hadn't expected any of that at all.
Standing up, Mito brushed her hair back over her shoulder, and looked down at Sasuke.
"Come on, we should go back inside before it gets any later."
