Chapter Seven:Day Two

Yugi had taken Joey and Tristan's offer to rest while they handled the store. He oddly enough didn't find it too hard to fall asleep. The talk with Tea had mentally exhausted him to the point that his head was still pounding when he woke up.

The moment, "I need to talk to you" left his lips the waterworks began. And before he could even tell her what was on his mind she was already talking a mile a minute.

"Is the distance too much?"

"I'm sorry I'm going to the beach Yugi and want to have a life!"

"Do you have feelings for someone else? It's someone else isn't it?"

And to make it even worst her friends in the background were adding in their own little comments like it actually mattered. Yugi didn't even have the time and energy to confront them and instead did something that Yugi had never done to Tea before.

He cut her off.

His tone was stern but gentle, the words finding their way out of his mouth without him having to think too much over it. Yes, in person would have been better, but he needed to do it right then and he wasn't sure how he would handle her crying. Yugi's guilt complex often had him giving in to other people.

With every word he said she kept turning it around on him, making it all about her and what must be wrong with her because he was asking for a break.

By the end of it was Tea who ended it for good.

Yugi sighed when she said the words, annoyance filling him up the point that he almost growled out in irritation. He allowed her to take the conversation from him even though in reality it was him calling it quits on their dead-end relationship. He knew she was only saying it out of spite because he said he needed time to reevaluate their relationship.

Either way it was what was best for him and her. She was just being Tea; over emotional, over the top Tea. It hurt when she hung up, her voice clipped and serious like it was even her decision, but it was only because Tea was his oldest friend.

He had her before Yami, Joey, Tristan, Ryou...and the Kaiba brothers. But they weren't children anymore and Yugi had responsibilities while Tea only had school and hanging out. They had just gone in two separate directions. They no longer enjoyed the same things and while Yugi hated to say it, all they ever did was have sex and sleep. That's not much of a relationship if you look at the large scheme of thing.

Yugi finally pulled himself out of bed and helped his friends close up shop. Joey gave him a pointed look but didn't bring up their earlier conversation. What's done is done and now Yugi just had to get through the week working at Kaiba Corp and then he can focus on himself.

But as he walked through the double doors, this time dressed a little nicer in a deep blue button down shirt with the sleeves rolled to his elbows and black slacks, he found that his body had different ideas than his mind.

Amethysts met cobalt blue, the room fading into the background and silencing to a dull hiss.

Kaiba was leaning against one of the walls, one long leg propped behind him and his lean arms crossed against his chest. Shaggy chestnut hair fell against his forehead and almost shaded his eyes, making them an even darker blue. It was like those eyes shined only for Yugi and nothing else.

Kaiba's usual coat was missing, instead leaving him in a black long sleeve button down shirt and matching slacks. For a CEO he's always dressed relatively down to earth, but it did nothing to hinder the man's good looks. If anything it only enhanced them...

"Mr. Muto! Welcome back to Kaiba Corp."

Maybe it was Yugi's talk with Tea or just his day in general, but he couldn't stop his eyes from trailing over the CEO, taking in the small bit of his chest showing from the top few buttons of his shirt being undone. He took in every detail from the tip of his nose, to the natural downturn of his lips which were currently pulling up into a cocky smirk.

"Mr. Muto?"

Like a rubber band Yugi snapped back to attention, his body flushed and his ears ringing.

"Hello, Mr. Muto I'm talking to you!"

Yugi took his eyes away from Kaiba and realized for the first time that the poor receptionist was trying to get his attention. Her brown eyes were furious and her cheeks comically huffed as she brushed a long black braid over her shoulder.

"Uh, I'm sorry what?"

Yugi nearly flinched as the woman's eyes darkened even more, pure rage filling her face and making her look like a black panther getting ready to rip apart its prey. It wasn't an endearing thought.

"Mr. Kaiba is waiting for you," she said coldly before turning on her heel and walking away, this time without all the unnecessary swing that she had the night before. Oops.

But Yugi was already fully aware that Kaiba was waiting on him.

However, when he looked back in the same spot the CEO was before the man was gone, causing Yugi's eyebrows to rise on his forehead as he looked from side to side, curious about where he had gone.

"Looking for someone?"

Yugi jumped, his body shivering as the gruff voice brushed against his ear drum, soft breath tickling his ear slightly. His chest was heaving almost unsteadily up and down, his pants growing tighter against his will.

What in the hell was wrong with him?

The warmth behind Yugi moved, Kaiba coming into view though he kept his body to the side, shielding the other half from Yugi's wandering eye. The smirk was still in full effect as blue eyes flickered down, almost like knowing the problem that was forming from Kaiba being so close.

"Follow me," he said nonchalantly and just like that the Kaiba Yugi knew was back to the surface.

This Kaiba Yugi knew and could handle; the Kaiba who calls Joey a mutt, constantly challenged Yugi and Yami into a duel, and never wanted to be friends even when their rivalry was put to rest. This was the Kaiba who stole Yugi's Grandfathers Blue Eyes White Dragon card, even if Yami removed the darkness in his heart. This was the very same Kaiba who never even apologized for it.

Yugi face was hard as he followed the tall CEO, glaring at his back in a very un-like Yugi fashion. Kaiba however either didn't seem to notice or simply just didn't care as he led him into the elevator, not saying a word and acting as lax and nonchalant as ever, his face even and eyes closed.

That was what Yugi admired and hated the most about Seto Kaiba. He was so controlled with everything that he did. He wasn't as emotionally expressive as Yugi, who in his older age isn't as bad, but if Yugi is upset (like now) it shows.

But with Kaiba you only know what he wants you to. He puts just enough in a sentence to get the point across and you never know his intentions when it comes to his actions and words. That was what was bothering Yugi more than anything.

What is Kaiba gaining from having Yugi work at Kaiba Corp for a week? Did he honestly think that he was going to accomplish whatever he set out to do? Sure, Kaiba had sent out a rose and did ask him to dinner which is strange, but it has to be a part of some elaborate plan.

Regardless of everything Yugi just couldn't believe that Kaiba might...have some kind of genuine feelings. It was completely illogical. He was just playing mind games; getting his kicks watching Yugi struggle and suffer as payback.

Yugi followed Kaiba out the elevator. His bad mood now heavy around him, his shoulders sagging as he fell deeper and deeper into the pit that opened ever since the "incident" at Mokuba's party. His feet were almost dragging as they entered Kaiba's office, the CEO walking straight to his desk.

Yugi couldn't help but to notice, even in his rotten mood, how empty, clear and completely impersonal the office was. There was nothing telling of who Kaiba is besides the fact that he doesn't want anyone to know him and his personal life.

And Yugi's mood darkened even more.

"Did you like the game you had a chance to try Yesterday, Yugi?"

Yugi turned his attention from the large window showing the city of Domino lit up and alive, and turned his attention to Kaiba who was now behind his desk in his big black leather chair.

"At first," Yugi said dryly, his tone low and his voice sharp and dull. He really was just having a horrible day...

Kaiba said nothing at first, instead narrowing his eyes ever so slightly as he examined Yugi from head to toe, unwillingly making Yugi flush at the scrutiny of Kaiba's stare. It was like he was a never before seen specimen that Kaiba needed to learn every single part of. It was unnerving being looked at so...scientifically.

And then before Yugi's eyes Kaiba's expression softened only a fraction, the coolness in his eyes melting only enough to show Yugi the understanding and empathy with what he was going through and feeling.

"I see," Kaiba said cryptically, his tone still even and monotone but the volume low.

Yugi couldn't help but to wonder what it was that he "saw".

"Have a seat and let's begin. I'm going to need you to make thank you letters for everyone who attended the release of the newest duel disk."

Without another word Yugi sat down and got to work, the room falling into silence that was at first tense until Yugi got lost in what he was doing.

Under the desk a knee lightly brushed his and then stayed.

Yugi didn't move away.
