## Break ##
"You know, I've been following Agent Granger around for awhile," the man responded with a happy smile as he watched the shocked expression on Charlie's face. Charlie sank back down to the floor. "I've been watching him and stalking him. I saw him come out of the adoption clinic and I wanted to know what information he got about his family. So when I found it was you boys… I knew there were ways I could torture Agent Granger."
"Leave him alone," Don ordered. Even if he was pissed off at his youngest agent, he wasn't about to watch this bastard walk off and torture Colby. "I'm the leader of the team. Anything you have to say, you can torment me with – but don't drag my family into this." He glanced at Colby.
Colby raised his eyebrow but did not give any other expression away, careful to keep his expressions blank. Don could only guess what his younger agent was thinking. You're an idiot, Eppes. You yell and cuss David and Colby for not getting along with each other after Granger's supposed betrayal, and tell them it will injure the team, and then what do you do? You do the same damn thing!
"Oh, agent, but I already have brought your family into this." He smiled as he brushed his fingers against Colby's skin. Colby tightly closed his eyes. "I'm surprised, now you're accepting him as your family member? You weren't before."
Don winced at the man's accusation. He'd been too surprised, too unwilling to accept that there was a third brother involved. When Colby had brought up that he might be Don's third brother, he'd thought of all the trauma he'd had to deal with growing up with Charlie, and hadn't wanted to admit the possibility that there might have been another brother.
He'd talked with his father after Colby had talked to him the second time and demanded answers. He'd demanded to know if his father knew about any other family member other than himself and Charlie. Don had even threatened to go to the FBI and read his father's file and gain the information himself if he was unwilling to share. It was then that his father had confessed. Margaret had had a third child. The problem was - the child wasn't Alan's. His mother had been raped when he was two. Alan, who had to deal with Margaret's depression and Don, who was two and hadn't been getting any attention, had actually suggested abortion. His mother had cited faith reasons for not giving up the baby and had refused. The third child had stayed with him until he was one, but when Margaret had been with a friend one day, the friend had walked off with Colby, wanting a young child for herself. They'd never been able to find him.
"We stopped searching for him when Charlie was born. It was two years later. It's something I regret, but we wanted to put it behind us. You were starting to ask questions – we just stopped answering them. If Colby is that child…" Alan winced as he buried his face in his hands. "My God, Don, I may have disowned my own son."
"Can someone please tell me what's going on here?" Charlie demanded in frustration. He glanced at Colby and drifted his gaze to Don. Neither looked like they were about to give answers. He glanced up at their captor.
"You mean they haven't told you yet? Shame, shame, Agent Granger. Did you know that Colby was adopted?" the man questioned as he looked at Charlie questioningly. He tightened his grip against the gun and held it against Don's thigh.
"Yeah, I knew that," Charlie said, once again looking from Colby to Don. Neither one seemed to want to give anything away, and, once again, he felt kept in the dark. Colby had admitted that he'd been adopted to him once when he'd picked him up to take him to the office. Charlie had remembered feeling bad for asking about the agent's family.
"Good. Well, the other day Colby found out who his birth family was."
"That's great, Colby," Charlie said. He knew how much that Colby had wanted to know. Actually, then again, he really didn't know how much Colby had wanted to know, but he had known the agent wanted to know who it was.
"Oh, it was, until he got the reaction from his older brother and father," the man sneered as he dug the gun into Don's thigh once more.
"Don?" Charlie asked quietly. Don closed his eyes and sighed, resuming Stoic Don Eppes posture.
"I… I'm sorry I didn't believe you, Colby," Don responded. His eyes locked with Colby's, and Charlie could see his older brother – and now, Colby's older brother, too, he realized – trying to reassure Colby that he was being honest.
Colby waved his hand. Or tried too. With the handcuffs, he didn't get very far. "It's okay."
Great, Charlie thought, another Eppes who won't talk at all about what was going on and will be willing to ignore the present situation.
"You know why Alan wouldn't tell you that night about your birth rights, Colby?" The man squatted down and looked at Colby's face. "Margaret was raped, Colby. That's why Don and Charlie didn't know about it. They only kept you for a year before I kidnapped you and sold you off for a pretty penny to my niece." He kicked Colby in the ribs. "I was hoping you would never learn about your birth family, because then I might get in trouble."
"You son of a bitch," Don muttered as he attempted to drag himself to his feet. Charlie glanced at Don in concern. He'd never heard the story and felt sick. His mother had been… assaulted by this monster. And Colby had been born as a result. No wonder why his father didn't want to talk to Colby about the conditions of his birth.
"Now, now, agent, that's not nice," the man sneered. He moved over, closer to Don, making himself just two steps away. "You don't want Colby to pay for your sins, do you?"
Don just glared at Colby, who winced. Charlie couldn't help but feel sorry for Colby. No doubt he had not considered his quest to find his birth parents this much of a nightmare.
"Well, it was nice chatting with your brothers, Colby, wasn't it? But it's time that I walked off with you now," the man admitted. He smirked as he dragged a needle from his pocket. "So, as soon as it gets just a touch darker, you're coming home with me." He paused and leaned closer towards the agent, laughing as Colby tried to shrink away. "Remember... I am your father."
