An Untimely and Unexpected Reunion

I don't own anything Inuyasha.

...

The night was cool and the hut's shade failed to bring much protection against the strong breeze from outside. Her soon to be mate was kneeling by the door trying to tie the seemingly useless bamboo curtain to the doorframe, more for privacy then protection from the late Fall air, but the nervous shaking of his hands caused it to be a chore. She was shaking as well standing by the futon on the other side of the room. This is what she wanted. This is why she came back, to be with her hanyou love, but she was still on edge. They have only seen each other's bodies during stressful combat situations and Kagome was sure that it was more awkward to do so willingly. Clutching the yukata to keep her from being fully uncovered she watched Inuyasha struggle with the multiple ties, his back to her. Though he was still trying to hold his true feelings from her, it was comforting to recognize that he was just as tense. Pushing aside her own apprehensions she mustered up the courage to speak.

"Inu- Inuyasha…" his name filled the hut, leaving a promise hanging in the air and he turned his head towards her with questioning eyes. She smiled, though her face felt cold, released the grip of her yukata, and slipped the thin material off her shoulders.

In the fading light the shadows played with her curves as the abandoned robe skidded over her hips, falling in a soft pile by her feet. The cool air, mixed with embarrassment, hit her naked body. Inuyasha took her in slowly, not missing a single detail, including the goose bumps and the smell of adrenaline on her blushing skin.

The hardened peaks of her breasts along with the soft curves of her maturing hips, thighs and beautiful, innocent face were illuminated with the soft light of the dying fire. He stood up and slowly turned around, not wanting to startle her with sudden movements. He wanted her to stay perfectly still, just as she was. He wanted her to stay strong as she was completely exposed to him. He wanted... Her.

His desire cut through her hesitant tension as he closed the gap between them, yellow-gold eyes locked on hers the entire time. Soon, he was close enough that Kagome could feel his warm body promising heat to her sensitive, naked skin. His hand reached up to slowly caress her cheek and she leaned into the touch lovingly. For what seemed like forever she had longed for his love.

"You are beautiful." His voice was low, soft, and honest. The words cut straight to her heart and she relaxed. Too soon his hand left her face and moved to his obi.

Kagome wanted to dart her eyes away, but she could not help but stare as he loosened the knot to throw it off to the side then removed his arms from the red top, letting it hang from his waist. The weight of the material stressed the waistline, exposing more hot skin that begged for her hands.

She lifted her eyes up past his hard stomach and chest to his face once again. With one fang exposed Inuyasha was biting his lip, breathing harder as the seconds passed and their sexual tension grew. Kagome moved one hand towards him slowly, finally resting it on his shoulder then softly trailed her fingers down. His abs jumped involuntarily in response.

Inuyasha's breaths were short and strong. Rough hands grabbed lightly at her waist, feeling the bone at his palms and her round flesh under his claws. Groaning he pulled Kagome into him, catching her mouth with his; kissing her deeply.

Her hands were trapped between their bodies, not allowing hers to be fully pressed against him. Pushing him back slightly, she stopped his kiss and he looked shocked. It wasn't until he backed away mere inches and she freed her arms to wrap around him that Inuyasha understood her intentions. He could feel the goose-bumped flesh and hard peaks press into his burning chest and his eyes shut in anticipation. Her hands traveled up his back, then into the thick, white hair at his neck, pulling his lips to hers again.

Their tongues fumbled over each other as his hands tightened their grasp on her bare hips. She gripped his hair when she felt his hips rock against her, anxiously begging. Small, feminine fingers grazed his shoulder blades, down the sides, and to his waistline where they found the knot keeping his hakama up.

Groaning against her plump lips he strengthened their kiss. A quell of apprehension sparked her reiki and Kagome tried to move her head back slightly to slow it down, but Inuyasha pushed forward, not risking losing the treat he had wanted for so long.

Somewhere deep inside herself Kagome felt her defenses stir. "Mmmm…" was all she could say against the increasingly urgent force of his lips as he helped her relieve him of the hakama.

Opening his eyes once again he looked deep into her and confessed, "I love you."

The rare admission took her off guard. Her body gave in as he pulled her against him once again, now fully exposed. Feeling his urgent hardness between them throb with his quick heartbeat Kagome stopped breathing.

Without warning he wrapped one arm around the bottom off her legs and kissed down to her stomach as he crouched down to pick her up. Her back arched from surprise and before she could stop him he had her laid out on the futon, feeling the weight of her love covering her body, his hair shielding and tickling her face.

Her reiki stirred again against her will. "Inuyasha… wait." He was kissing at her neck, trying to soothe away her uncertainty.

"Kagome, you feel so good…" His voice was needy, but his movements slowed.

Her fear grew as the spiritual powers deep within her swelled. She was nervous, but not scared, Inuyasha never scared her... What was happening?

Kagome tried to push at his chest. "Inuyasha, seriously, wait…"

Smelling her anxiety, a whimper replaced his moan as he looked at her with concern. "What's the matter?"

She waited on answering to focus on her aura, ensuring it wasn't growing yet again.

"Um… my body, it's…" Her lips were swollen and wet from their kisses. Her face was flushed and her body trembled and Inuyasha found he couldn't help himself.

Her protests were halted with another kiss and he eagerly grinded against her again. She inhaled him deeply as his lips took hers and they moved in unison. Kagome felt herself relax into him, into what was happening around her. She moaned softly into his lips and felt his body tense with her approval.

His tongue brushed against her lips and found its way against her own. She played with his back and he reflexively pushed his hips against hers. Kagome felt the hard, pleading sign of his desire dig into her thigh.

Without warning her powers grew upon themselves rapidly. Kagome shot her eyes open, but before she could alert Inuyasha her body started to glow the deep pink of protection, creating an incredible tension between her temples.

She felt Inuyasha being pulled away as her aura grew. The pain pulled him from the kiss and looking into her shocked eyes he only had an instant to question her.

"Why?" he asked desperately before being flung across the room, crashing through the useless bamboo curtain as an unwanted dome barrier outlined Kagome's naked form.

.

Kagome woke with a start, thrashing the blankets around her and gasping for whatever air she could get as a barrier, created subconsciously in her dreams, glowed around her. She hated that dream, she hated that memory. It brought so much shame thinking of the event that started to drive Inuyasha and her apart.

That wasn't supposed to happen.

It was supposed to be glorious. It was her mating, her gift for always being the forgiving, loving person throughout the entire Shikon Jewel fiasco. In the end, she had what she wanted. Through the misunderstandings and jewel shards, friends and enemies, countless times through the well and the heartache of Kikyo, Kagome finally had what she wanted; Inuyasha.

Why couldn't she keep what she deserved?

Bringing her hands to her face she wondered what had awakened her.

Then she felt strong warnings ebb into her aura. Youkai!

Kagome sat still as humanly possible, trying to feel out exactly what she was dealing with. There were two. They were strong, they were dangerous, and they were close.

Ah, crap…

Cursing herself for not feeling them sooner Kagome jumped out of bed, moved towards the closet, and started to think about how she fell asleep in the first place.

The well… the scroll… Anka!

Her eyes shot across the room that blushed from the light of the city and moonlight until she saw the harmless looking green scroll on her nightstand. Confusion swept over her as she remembered the jolt from touching it and Anka's warning right before she passed out.

'Wish I could say the same…'

His eyes were cold, his stance unwavering, and in the second between the flash of the well and the blackness that followed her down into unconsciousness he really looked like her enemy. But… he had carried her up, tucked her in, and left the scroll with her. None of it made sense, however she had no time to think about it.

Psft… Time… always a nuisance.

While keeping the barrier intact she awkwardly reached to a shelf above her and pulled out a large, velvet drawstring bag that carried her quiver and bow.

Silently as possible she moved it to the bed to remove her weapon. At first she had cleaned and polished the wood often, ignoring the mystical, taut string that needed no maintenance. But, after the months then years separating her from the time where it was needed the upkeep seemed foolish. Old memories of ancient battles flashed through her mind as she threw the quiver over her shoulder, grasped the center of the handle of her bow, and headed for the bedroom door. The youki she felt remained still, but she didn't trust it. Unmoving youki meant resolution. Unmoving youkai meant a target had been reached and preparations were being made.

Kagome was quite sure she was that target.

Ah crap Ah crap Ah crap

Shallow breaths contradicted her long steps through the room and she concentrated on her barrier. The rest of her energy was spent trying to keep quiet. This new trick she had taught herself seemed to block her aura and scent, but not sound. She reached to the steps, keeping constant attention to the demons outside, and sensed they started to move slowly toward the house.

Don't let them have sensed me yet, please. PLEASE.

She hit the bottom step and turned towards the kitchen door that had allowed Hojo and Anka in earlier that day. She quickly promised herself that NO one else would come through that door tonight.

Even if she had to block it with her limp body.

Yeah, that's a great thing to think about right now.

Pressing against the wall by the door she stopped breathing to listen outside, still wearing her dirty skirt and top from the excursion in the well house. Everything seemed just so unfair at the moment. To her, that was only a few moments ago and this was too much to deal with at once. Nap aside, because it obviously wasn't intended, she hadn't had to deal with this much drama since the jewel quest.

Sure, it might have been what she was dreaming about the night prior, but not now, not here. Kagome chastised herself realizing how strange it was to daydream about the ideal place in time she would rather have this fight when it was clearly going to happen now.

What happened with the scroll and Anka was a battle for another time, and she would make it to that fight, if nothing else then to chew out Anka for making her day worse than it already was. She should fire him… or dock him a day's pay… or yell at him... something.

'Wish I could say the same'…Danger… Threat… Fear… Enemy.

She closed her eyes, pushing thoughts of betrayal away, and stilled herself. Softly, she heard a muffled single voice over the quiet of the late night. Some part of her mind screamed at the voice and begged to be paid attention too, but Kagome brushed the nagging feeling aside to focus on making out what the youkai was saying. She needed to know why they were there and why now. Focusing on the voice outside, she silenced her breathing to search out their words

She found one. "Keh!"

No…

Her eyes shot open and the previously ignored section of her memories took over, telling her she knew that voice very well. Fate could not be so cruel, but as her breath let loose, Kagome knew it was true. She tried to listen to more but her breathing was becoming louder, her concentration waning.

There was one thing she could do to be sure. If it wasn't him she would give her position away, but she needed to know. With one deep breath she settled herself, feeling the harsh doorframe against her spine and found it pleasant compared to what she might be facing outside.

Please just be some harmful, enraged youkai looking for miko blood… Please don't be him…

In a voice barely louder than a whisper she spoke.

"Osuwari."

The loud thud outside as the spell took hold confirmed what she already knew and feared to be true. Not knowing how to handle the wave of emotions that attacked her, she rushed outside with her bow held steady and a bright pink arrow flaring, lighting her way as she dropped the aura barrier.

She aimed straight ahead as she ran the short distance to the visitors, stopping a few feet from the face-planted hanyou. Her eyes sought him out, but they quickly moved up to his companion that she'd completely forgotten was there.

However, Kagome would never forget the moment when she saw modern Tokyo frame his form and moonlight reflect off his silver hair, white silk, soft fur, and metallic armor. His face remained dark, but majestic gold eyes glowed at her in disbelief.

In his first words since he fled the feudal era, he spoke low and steady, barely hiding his shock. "The miko…"

Relaxing her grip she allowed the tip and bow to lower dramatically. Her knees felt weak, but she held strong as she stared at the taiyoukai. "Sesshoumaru!"

The spell released. Inuyasha hesitated to get up. He could sense her completely now as the scent washed over him. "Ka-Ka..." But, that was impossible! She was supposed to be de-… She just left without saying goodbye.

Kagome had disappeared through the well over 80 years ago.

He slowly put his right hand to the ground to push his shoulders and head up. Staying in the dirt, he looked up at the human woman, the completely unchanged woman, who left him almost a hundred years prior. Her blue eyes moved from Sesshoumaru to his somber gaze with the same youthful look, and bright irritation, that he remembered so well.

"Kagome?"
