Chapter Five: Planet of the Ood: Part 2
Rose and The Master were casually strolling past the warehouse. Donna stopped, glanced at it before rolling her eyes at the two Time Lords. She then gave a loud whistle which made Rose and The Master turn to look and Rose couldn't help but grin at Donna.
"When did you know how to whistle?" she asked.
"West Ham, every Saturday," Donna replied smugly.
Rose used her sonic to open the door and they slipped inside it, only to find hundreds of container ships.
Rose sucked in a breath. "It's like an Ood export. See Donna?" she said, pointing up to a giant claw. "Lifts them up and sends them across three galaxies."
Donna's mouth gaped. "You mean… that these are full of…"
The Master nodded. "For an ape, you're smart…" he trailed off as he frowned. "I just said that Fire Head was smart…"
Rose rolled her eyes at the two before she opened one of the containers and inside was a lot of the Ood standing in formation.
Donna groaned. "Oh my god! That stinks… how many are in here?" she whispered.
Rose shrugged. "Dunno. Hundred, maybe more."
"Slaves. A great big empire built on slavery," Donna gasped.
Rose pursed her lips. "It's not so different from our time."
"Oi! I don't have slaves!" Donna said loudly.
The Master gave the redheaded woman a pointed look. "Who do you think made your clothes?"
Donna glared at Rose and The Master. "Is that why you two travel round with a human at your side? It's not so you can show them the wonders of the universe, it's so you can take cheap shots."
The Master scoffed. "I don't even wanna be with a human. Rose is making me," he admitted glaring at the blonde.
Rose turned to Donna. "I use to be human once. The Master was just pointing out that humans aren't so different to them."
Donna was quiet for a moment before she smirked at Rose. "Well, you're Space-Girl from now on." She then turned to one of the Oods. "I don't understand, the door was open…Why didn't you just run away?"
"For what reason?" The Ood asked.
"So you could be free," Donna replied softly.
"I do not understand the concept," the Ood said.
"What is it with that Persil ball? I mean they're not born with it, are they? Why do they have to be all plugged in?" Donna asked Rose who frowned.
The Master had another question. "Ood, I demand to know. What is this 'Circle'?"
"The Circle must be broken," all of the Ood said together.
Donna's eyes widened. "Whoa… That's creepy."
The Master pursed his lips tightly. "But what is The Circle?" he pressed.
"The Circle must be broken…" The Ood said.
"But why?" Rose asked.
"So we can sing," The Ood replied.
Loud alarm bells began to ring.
"Okay, that's our cue," Rose said, grabbing The Master's and Donna's hands and started to run.
The three of them ran around boxes when Donna's hand slipped away from Rose's and shouted.
"Oi Rose, there's a door!"
Rose and The Master didn't hear her as they ran around another box. When Rose glanced back, she sighed angrily.
"Damn it," she swore.
The Master raised his eyebrow. "What?"
Rose gave him a look. "We lost Donna," she replied. She then noticed a giant claw about to crush them. "We need to get out of here and find her," she added and grabbed his hand.
Then they started to run. Again.
….
"ROSE! IF YOU AND THE MASTER DON'T GET ME OUT OF HERE SOON, I'LL SLAP EVERYONE IN SIGHT!"
Rose grimaced as she looked at the guards. "You better release her, or she'll fall on that promise and let me tell you, it's not pretty to watch."
The guards unlocked the doors and Donna flung herself at Rose tightly before she hugged The Master who patted her back awkwardly.
"You okay? Don't worry. Safe and sound now," Rose said softly.
Donna sighed. "Never mind me. Worry about them," she replied, tilting her head to the red-eyed Ood.
The guards began to shoot the Ood and Rose, Donna and The Master made their escape. Solana was also running behind them. They stopped when they were safely hidden and gasped for breath.
"If the people back on Earth knew what was going on here..." Donna trailed off as she continued to gasp for breath.
Solana scowled. "Don't be stupid. Of course they know."
"They know how they treat the Ood?" Donna asked, surprised.
Solana shrugged. "They don't ask. Same thing."
The Master glared. "Listen to me you stupid ape, the Ood aren't born like this. A species born to serve could never evolve in the first place. What does the company do to make them obey?" he demanded.
Solana looked a little nervous. "It has nothing to do with me!"
Rose snorted. "Why? Have you forgotten to ask questions?"
Solana gave Rose a look. "That's Dr Ryder's territory."
"I can help with this red eye problem. Tell me where he is," Rose said quietly.
Solana looked at the three of them for a long time before she pulled out of Rose's gaze and shouted, "They're over here! Guards, they're over here!"
The Master growled as the three of them took off running again.
….
"Does that mean we're locked in?" Donna asked, shocked as Rose locked the controls from inside another warehouse.
The Master groaned. "Oh my bloody head. I don't know what's worse. The Drums, or this noise."
Rose nodded with a wince. "I don't need the map. I should've just listened."
Donna looked confused. "What are you two on about?"
Rose gave her a surprised look. "Can't you here it? The singing?"
Rose used her sonic as a torch as the three of them walked down some steps when she saw a group of Ood huddled in a cage. She turned on the lights with the switch and the three of them crouched down.
"They look different to the others," Donna whispered.
The Master had a black expression on his face. "They're natural born Ood, Fire Head."
Rose sucked in a breath. "That's their song we've been hearing."
Donna continued to frown. "I can't here it."
Rose turned to her. "Do you want to?" she asked softly.
Donna thought about it for a moment before she nodded. "Yeah."
"You sure?"
"I wanna hear it."
"It's the song of captivity."
"Let me here it."
Rose sighed as she put her fingers on either side of Donna's head and closed her eyes.
"You have to open your mind, Donna. Yeah like that. Listen Donna, listen to the music."
Donna gasped as she heard the same song that The Master and Rose were hearing before. It was so sad. She felt something wet trailing down her cheeks. It was tears. She's crying and she rarely cries.
"Take it away," she sobbed.
Rose bit her lip. "You sure?"
Donna nodded. "I can't bare it."
Rose put her hands on Donna's head and took the song away.
Donna sucked in a breath. "I'm sorry. Hold on, you and The Master can still here it?"
The Master nodded. "All the time."
….
It turned out that the Ood were born with brains and that the company cuts them off to out the translation ball on them. Then they were caught, again, and now the three of them were staring at the boss in his office as they were handcuffed to a poll.
"Why don't you just come out and say it? FOTO activists," the boss hissed.
Rose glared back. "If that what's Friends of the Ood means, then yeah. We are."
"The Ood were nothing without us… just animals roaming around on the ice," the boss said.
"That's cause you can't hear them, you stupid ape!" The Master growled.
"They welcomed it! It's not as if they put up a fight," the boss replied, waving a dismissing hand.
Donna rolled her eyes. "You idiot! They're born with their brain in their hands, don't you see? That makes them peaceful! They've got to be because a creature like that would have to trust anyone it meets!" she spat angrily.
"Nice one," Rose praised, smirking at Donna.
Donna huffed. "Thanks."
The boss smirked. "The system's worked for 200 years. All we've got is a rogue batch. But the infection is about to be sterilized," he said before he held his wrist up to his mouth and spoke in a device. "Mr Kess, how do we stand?"
"Canisters primed, sir. As soon as the core heats up, the gas is released. Give it 200 marks... and counting."
Rose's eyes widened. "You're going to gas them?" she asked in horror.
The boss continued to smirk at Rose. "Kill the livestock. The classic foot-and-mouth solution. Still works." Then alarms started and the boss went outside for around five minutes before he came back. "Change of plans."
"What's happening?" Rose demanded.
"Everything you wanted, Miss Tyler. No doubt there'll be a full police investigation once this place has been sterilized so I can't risk a bullet to the head. I'll leave you to the mercies of the Ood."
The Master pursed his lips. "There's something you haven't mentioned. Something that's controlling the Ood…"
The boss looked surprised. "Well, it seems like you're smart after all. But no matter. It will be destroyed. Enjoy your Ood."
Then he left the room with a doctor and a Ood. The three time travelers began to struggle out of the handcuffs.
"Come on," Rose groaned.
Donna huffed. "Well, do something! You're the one with all the tricks! You must've met Houdini!"
Rose sighed. "I have actually. But these are really good handcuffs."
The Master snorted. "Thank god for that," he muttered.
The doors opened with a bang and standing there were three red-eyed Ood.
Rose bit her lip. "Uh… Master, Donna, Rose friends!" she tried.
"The circle must be broken!" Donna tried as the Ood advanced on them.
"Master, Donna, Rose friends!"
"The circle must be broken!"
"Master, Donna, Rose friends!"
"The circle must be broken!"
"Master, Donna, Rose friends!"
"The circle must be broken!"
Suddenly the Ood put their hands on their heads and shook them before their eyes turned normal and held out their translation ball.
"Master, Donna, Rose, friends," they said.
Rose nodded. "That's us. Oh yes!"
….
It turned out that the element that The Master was going on about was a giant brain, being controlled by an electric ring. That was when the boss came in, killed the doctor who turned out to be a friend of the Ood. But that wasn't the strangest thing. The strangest thing was when the boss was turning into an Ood, which made Rose and Donna watch in disgust while The Master looked on interested.
"He has become Ood-kind and we will take care of him," Ood Sigma told Rose who nodded.
Donna gasped. "Okay. This is weird. Being with you two, I can't tell what's right and what's wrong anymore."
Rose shrugged. "It's better that way. People who know for certain tend to turn into Mr. Halpen." When she disabled the bombs, Rose turned to Sigma. "Sigma, will you allow me the honor?" she asked.
Sigma nodded. "It is yours Bad Wolf."
Rose grinned. "The Ood have been silent for two hundred years. But not anymore. The circle is broken and the Ood can sing!" she said happily as she broke the circle.
Donna laughed as she heard a happy song in her head. "I can here it!" she told Rose who laughed as well.
The Master sighed. "Now what?" he asked Rose who gave him a look.
….
"The message has gone out across the stars and everyone heard it. The Ood are coming home," Rose told Sigma as she, Donna and The Master stood in front of the Tardis.
Ood Sigma held out his translation ball. "We thank you Master-Donna-Rose, friends of Ood-kind. And what of you now? Will you stay? There is room in the song for you."
Rose blushed a bit. "Thanks for the offer, but I got a song of my own."
"I think your song must end soon…"
Rose frowned as she looked at The Master who looked confused as well. "What does that mean?"
"Every song must end," Sigma replied.
Rose nodded before she turned to Donna. "Do you still wanna go home?"
Donna smiled softly. "No. No way," she said.
Rose grinned. "Then the three of us will be off."
"Take this song with you," Ood said.
Donna nodded. "We will."
"Always," Rose added.
"And know this Master, Donna, Rose, you will never be forgotten. Our children will sing of the Master, Donna, Rose and our children's children, and the wind and the ice and the snow will carry your names forever."
….
"Hey Rose," The Master said as the three of them were inside the Tardis.
Rose sighed tiredly. "What?" she asked, annoyed
"You still owe me ten quid."
