Chapter 7: Problems

The man was actually the Headmaster.

He was actually the Headmaster.

What is this place?

Az asked herself this as the blue-eyed man came hurtling out from behind his desk, and ran straight at them. He moved unbelievably quickly for an older man and she and Tal only just had enough time to dodge out of his way.

This meant that he flew into Theia and Fi, who had been standing just behind them.

Headmaster Cross wrapped the two girls in a massive impromptu hug, while Tal and Az looked on wearing twin looks of confusion and amusement.

The whole scene caused Kaname to snigger faintly, earning himself a glare from Tal, and Zero to crack up completely, so Tal slammed the door on him. His amused laughing could still be heard as he retreated down the hall.

Theia and Fi extracted themselves from the Headmasters grip and casually stepped as far back as they could from him without being impolite.

"So I believe you will all be joining our lovely academy!" he beamed at them.

Az just looked at him silently with her eyebrows raised while Tal held back a laugh.

"Yes, we will," answered Fi calmly, "if that's alright with you, of course?"

"Brilliant! Nothing I love more than new recruits!" Cross grinned at them. Az's eyebrows got even higher at the term "recruits", if being even more surprised than she already was at this point was possible, because she was pretty sure she had reached her limit.

"I'll just need to know a few details of course," the Headmaster said, "date of birth, address etc.?" The girls froze.

"That might be a bit…difficult." she said uncertainly.

"I don't see why!" replied Cross in confusion.

Az grinned sheepishly. "Ermmmm… Well I was born…10th August…1997?" she said.

Cross smiled and noted down the date on a slip of paper. "Ok, how about you others?" he asked, the question aimed at Fi, Tal and Theia.

The girls looked uncertainly at Az before Fi got the message and stepped forward, saying her date of birth. Tal and Theia followed suit.

"Address?" asked the Headmaster.

"We, kind of, don't have one…" muttered Tal.

"So where do you live?!" asked the Headmaster incredulously.

"We travel around a lot… I guess…" said Theia in way of explanation.

Kaname made his presence known again by interrupting the developing interrogation on the headmasters part, as the four girls stood in the centre of the room looking uncomfortable.

"Shall I escort the new students to their dorms?" he inquired politely.

"Yes! I mean no…" said the Headmaster, "Ask Zero to get them settled in, it might be best if you got back to your…classmates, Kaname."

Kaname nodded curtly, glancing at Tal, and moved to the door, opening it smoothly and gesturing them through like a proper gentleman. Tal sauntered through first, flashing Kaname a wink as she went, followed by Az suppressing a sigh at Kaname's shocked expression and then Fi and Theia wandered after her.

They met Zero in the foyer and he proceeded to lead them to a large room with four beds in the "Sun Dormitory". He let them in and handed them a key each, leaving with a furtive glance at Tal before vanishing into the shadows of the corridor. Daylight was beginning to peek through the closed curtains of the dorm room, and the girls set about allocating their beds, Az and Tal took the bunks on one side of the room and Fi and Theia took the others.

"Maybe we should get some sleep and then go get the stuff tonight?" said Fi with a yawn.

"Good plan, Wise Girl," replied Theia, already drifting off.

When the girls woke again, fading sunlight was just peeking throught the windows. Az sat up, going to the window and peering out to see the Night Class just exiting their dorm. As she looked on the blonde and maroon haired boys from earlier lifted their heads at exactly the same time, gazing straight at her.

Az froze, looking straight back at them, her eyes unable to move away from their unfairly perfect faces.

A crash from behind her shocked her out of her reverie, and she let the curtain drop, the spell broken, as she turned round to see what had made such a loud sound.

It turned out Theia had fallen out of bed, which of course lead to a hell of a lot of giggles and laughter from the rest of them while Theia sat on the ground rubbing her side, now fully awake.

Fi in turn dropped of the top bunk with a lithe jump landing just next to where Theia was sat on the floor groaning. She grinned down at her and Az helped in picking Theia up. The four girls then agreed to go and get dinner somewhere while waiting for darkness to fall completely so they could make their little trip without being noticed.

They proceeded to the dining hall, receiving a lot of speculating and awed looks from the people in the Day Class before collectively deciding to make a show of themselves for their own amusement, sitting right in the middle of the cafeteria, where they could play their favourite game of counting how many people stared at them. Tal also got to get creative with her food as she loved to do, chicken pancakes and mayonnaise with beef pie being some of the slightly less weird combinations that she had come up with. Watching Tal go crazy with what she was eating always made Az and Fi crack up and Theia shake her head in despair.

After eating they decided to head back to their room, asking the people in the room opposite if they had a pack of cards that they could use while they waited for full dark.
