DOCTOR WHO
University of the Angels
Chapter 6
Back at his home, Nathan was looking at himself in the mirror deciding what to wear for his supposed date with Kelly. He wanted to make a good impression on her and he really did not want to turn up looking like a bum.
As the time ticked on to 5pm, Nathan's stomach was tying itself into knots, he was finally going to spend some time with Kelly alone, get to know her. He was looking forward to what she had planned for this evening.
As Nathan stood picking out his clothes, James entered into his room looking at him peculiarly to what he was doing.
"Only girls decide what they want to wear on dates, you are not a girl." James pointed out.
"And you still have no manners on when to knock on someone's door to enter." Nathan retorted back.
James shook his head. "Is it that important to make an impression on this girl?" James asked him.
"Yes," Nathan replied. "I want to prove to her that I can look after myself and also prove to her that I am not just some lazy slob."
"Nathan," James sighed, "girls don't care about appearances, well…some do perhaps, but why go to so much fuss for this girl?" he asked, a pause lingered in the air before he added. "You barely know her."
Nathan breathed in and out heavily, wearily almost. He turned around to face James who stood there in the doorframe to his bedroom. "I have not felt this way about a girl before, Kelly, she is always on mind, I can't get her out of my head–"
"You are quoting from songs again," laughed James.
Nathan laughed also before the laughter ceased and became nothing more than a dry and horrible silence. "What would you do in a situation where you liked a girl so much that you would do anything to make her notice you?" Nathan asked James.
A brief moment of hesitation overcame James before he thought up a very good plausible answer. "Honestly," he began, "just be you."
Nathan smiled lightly at him.
"Here!" James said reaching into his trouser pocket and holding up a small square sized shiny wrapper. "I meant to give you this."
"What is it?" Nathan asked him a blank expression on his face.
"A condom," James merely said.
Nathan sighed and rolled his eyes. "James, what makes you think that I will need it? Nothing is going to happen between us, all we are going to do is walk, talk…maybe share a kiss, but no sex will be involved."
"You don't know that, what if she's the–"
"Don't say it!" Nathan warned pointing a finger at him.
"Just take it, just in case, please?" James begged sticking out his bottom lip and showing Nathan his brown puppy dog eyes.
Nathan glared at him.
"It will give me a peace of mind." James told him.
"From what?" Nathan asked.
James stuttered. Nathan, for the sake of it and wanting to avoid an argument, snatched the condom wrapper off James and pocketed it into his back jean pocket. James perked when he took it.
"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get ready, now get out of my bedroom." Nathan said pushing James by the shoulder and closing the door on James.
"My foot is stuck in your door!" James called on the other side.
Nathan rolled his eyes. "No it's not." he called through the door to him where he could hear James chuckling.

Nathan wore a smart navy blue shirt with jeans. He spiked his hair a little just to give it that edge so that Kelly would know he was cool of sorts. He popped a breath meant into his mouth, aside from countlessly and vigorously brushing his teeth until his gums bled to get his teeth white, Nathan was set and ready.
He reached over grabbed his mobile, but accidentally had picked up the one that was thrown at him that night of his accident. He had forgotten once again about this mobile, why did that keep happening?
And as instantly as he picked it up, dropped it back on his bedside table, forgot about it once again, and picked up his own black coloured Sony Xperia touch phone mobile.
Nathan left his room and skipped down the stairs whistling a cheery tune.
Before he got to the bottom of the stairs James called down to him asking him if he still had the condom with him, which Nathan took out of his pocket and flashed it to him. James smiled. "Did you put on some deodorant?"
"Yes." replied Nathan.
"Aftershave?" asked James.
"Yes." Nathan said irritable.
James could hear the tone in Nathan's voice that he was beginning to get a little agitated. "Just checking," he said. "Good luck, don't screw it up."
"Thanks for the moral support." Nathan mumbled under his breath.
At the bottom of the stairs, Nathan saw the Doctor enter through the front door.
"Oh, hello Doctor,"
"Ah, Nathan," the Doctor said jittery at first before turning into all smiles. "Going out I see."
Nathan nodded. "I have a date of sorts with a girl named Kelly. I am meeting her at the University."
"Right…wait what, the University?" asked the Doctor, his jittery returning all of a sudden.
"Yes," Nathan replied. "Is there a problem?"
"Uh…no, maybe later on but not right now, though, just a word of caution, don't linger around the premises of the Uni for too long." the Doctor whispered to him.
Nathan blinked. "Um…okay, I won't."
"Good Boy."
"Now I best be going, don't want to be late, see you later."
Nathan left; the Doctor wished him good luck.
With Nathan gone, the Doctor's face turned from all smiles into an apprehensive look.
Aside from learning that the Weeping Angles were now on Earth and doing something within the University of Glamorgan, there was something about Nathan as well that shook the Doctor to his core.
He wished Clara were here with him, she had that ability to put him back on track as it were. Why did he have to leave her on that spa planet?
University of the Angels
Kelly straightened her hair humming a tune as she did so, Nathan's image running through her mind. Every time she thought of him, she would smile. Her black cherry streaked hair was straight and smooth.
"So, our big sis going out on a date is it?" Molly said as she came bounding into Kelly's room.
"Who told you to come in?" Kelly asked. Molly shrugged her shoulder. "And if you must know, it is none of your business." Kelly told her sister.
"Is he cute?" Molly asked.
Kelly rolled her eyes, but Molly saw her do this in the mirror, a smile broke upon her face.
"Oh, he is, isn't he, I bet you are smitten with him, besides you talk about him in your sleep at times."
"I do not!" Kelly said affronted.
"I hear you now and then some nights shouting or mumbling…what is his name…Nathan?"
Kelly nodded in reply.
Molly smiled at the name. "Though they aren't the romantic type of name callings one would hear from someone dreaming about."
"Romantic name calling?" asked Kelly frowning.
"Normally when someone dreams about someone, they romantically call their names out,"
"So?" Kelly asked pushing her sister to get to the point.
"Well, it's just that, your dreams are more…well…sad, almost nightmarish even." Molly said.
Kelly stared at her transfixed by what her sister had said.
Sad, nightmarish, Kelly swallowed, her blood running cold all rather suddenly.
"Well," she said her voice shaking slightly. "They are probably just nerves settling or something."
"Or something." echoed Molly.
Kelly did not like where this conversation was headed, instead, she focused it on something else. "How did your date go with Owain?"
Molly shifted on the spot before she went over and sat down on Kelly's bed. "It was…" Molly thought of the right word to explain her evening with her boyfriend Owain. "…breath-taking."
"Breath-taking," Kelly echoed.
"Yes, I mean, he is a great kisser."
I wonder if Nathan is a great kisser. Kelly's subconscious thought.
"Are you asking for pointers on how to kiss this…Nathan dude?" Molly asked.
Kelly scoffed. "No." she said spitefully. "I have been out with many boys to know exactly what to do."
Kelly looked herself in the mirror and applied some lip-gloss to her lips to bring a bit of sparkle to them, after applying she smacked her lips together.
She then proceeded to place some eye shadow onto her eyelids.
"Don't overdo it K." Molly told her.
"I think I know what catches certain men's attention, Moll." Kelly told her younger sister.
Her sister did not want to argue, and so Molly left, leaving her sister to get ready.
Kelly added a hint of perfume, looked at herself in the mirror, smiled at herself and left her room.
At the bottom of the stairs, Molly and Holly were waiting for her to wish her good luck, she heard them ranting on about something before she reached the bottom of the stairs but only caught the end of the rant.
"Orlando Bloom is way hotter than Daniel Craig." Molly said.
"Ha! Says you," Holly said viciously.
They ceased their bickering as soon as Kelly reached the bottom step. They gawked at her. She was wearing a black top with a black skirt. Whoever this Nathan person was, she was serious about him.
"If this Nathan dude does not gawk and gravel at you, you so have to slap him." Molly said.
"I will keep that in mind." Kelly bid farewell to her sisters. "Be nice to each other until mom and dad get back from dinner!" Kelly ordered them and left closing the front door behind her.
Kelly caught the train to the University, which was a mere 10 minutes away, and the journey was less than 20 minutes, she would be there with time to spare.
She caught the earliest train and sat down for the journey.
As the train hurtled its way towards the University, Kelly thought about the week's event. Mostly she was wondering where Siobhan had gotten to, she had not seen hide nor tail of her friend since last week.
She recalled going to see her parents who had told her that Siobhan had gone on a University trip to America. However, when Kelly checked with the University, no trip had been issued. When she met up with Anna, Siobhan's girlfriend, she too said that Siobhan was in America on a trip. To prove that she was telling the truth, Anna showed her a card, which was sent to her from America in Siobhan's handwriting.
It was clear that Siobhan had done a bunk to America, though Siobhan was always the holidaying and party type girl, spending her money on expensive things. That was so like her. Though Kelly wondered why she had yet to receive a card from her yet, probably got lost in the post knowing her luck.
The train got closer to the University.
She felt her stomach tie itself into knots as she thought more about Nathan; she had never felt so happy, she was so head over heels for him.
The train reached the station, Kelly got off, and the journey she noticed flew by quite quickly.
Kelly looked at her watch, fifteen minutes to spare, Kelly set off towards the University.
The grounds were quiet, save for a few students who were attending night classes.
Kelly stood by the steps and waited for Nathan to arrive.
University of the Angels
With the University less than three minutes away, Nathan took the time he had left before he met Kelly to reflect about his recent vision.
True though it may have been that he was suffering from nightmares, reason unknown, him having a vision was taking things to an all-new level for him.
Nathan often wondered if these nightmares and visions that he was having were a result of some sort of stress. If it was stress, it had to be related to something.
Maybe he missed his parents, though he missed them ever day but it was not enough for him to become stressed, he spoke to his parents when he got the chance, and they would make frequent visits to meet him.
If it was not his parents, then it had to be something else…
He thought hard with gruelling effort to find a solution to these nightmares of his. He concluded instantly that it was not his 'date' with Kelly; he had been looking forward to this all day. And it had nothing to do with his accident; he had these nightmares way before he collided into that stone Angel nearly a week back.
Therefore, it had to be something before that.
Nathan strained as he thought to what could have been causing these nightmares.
Then, as if someone has lobbed a brick at him, something James said to him one night caused him to think.
"You cycle past there every morning, and you know you have an irrational fear of cycling past Universities ever since that near death experience…near death experience…near death experience…"
The words 'near death experience' echoed in his mind.
Near death experience, Nathan kept repeating these words, hoping they would jog something in his mind, but nothing came to him. Even saying the words aloud sounded…inhuman? No, that was not the word for it: Alien, that was it.
But what did James mean by this. Nathan had never been in a near death experience before in his life, at least not major wise. He would have a word with James about this.
Another thing that Nathan had only now just brought to light was James accusing that Kelly was lying to him about her name, whatever that meant, then again, Nathan assumed James was jealous about not getting a date.
Among all the possible reasons for his nightmares, Nathan often wondered if he was having a breakdown of sorts, something which he tried his best not to think of.
In those short three minutes, which turned out be longer than he expected, he came upon a familiar yet not so forgetting sight. Instantly a shiver ran up his spine. Immediately the presence of the University and the night of his accident quickly flashed through his mind like a flipbook.
Nathan coiled slightly, wrapping his arms around his stomach, almost as if to keep his intestines from falling out.
He closed his eyes and saw his vision and nightmares all play at once, repeatedly, sometimes mixed and blurred.
Like daggers sticking in him, which made his body tense, and freeze, Nathan wanted to throw up; he wanted to curl up on the ground and…
It faded, all rather suddenly, replaced by this warming comfort that dampened the icy chill of daggers.
"Nathan?" A familiar sweet voice whispered into his ear.
Nathan retained his form and saw Kelly's hand on his shoulder.
"Are you okay?" she asked him.
Nathan looked up at her. Her blue eyes twinkled back at him as his brown sad eyes almost telling her the story.
"Were you remembering the accident?" she asked him.
Nathan decided not to lie to her; he did not want her to worry about him, not tonight. "Yeah," he breathed, "just for a moment I could, remember the pain. Just the pain, nothing else." Okay, so maybe a little white lie, but the truth nonetheless.
Kelly nodded and positioned him to facer her. She rubbed her hands together, and then she placed her thumps by the sides of Nathan's temple and gently rubbed circular motions.
Nathan felt a sudden ease in pressure, he could not explain it, whatever Kelly had done, it was almost as if she removed all the worry from him.
"How do you feel?" she asked him gently.
"Better." Nathan said, the word hardly escaping his lips.
Kelly smiled and looked him up and down. "Handsome," she said to him. "Navy blue really suits you."
Nathan smiled and looked at her in turn. "Black suits you too, you look wonderful."
"Thank you." Kelly smiled, blushing almost.
"So where are we going?" Nathan asked.
"Someplace wonderful," Kelly said. "You won't be disappointed."
Together, side by side, Kelly and Nathan walked down the pavement towards Pontypridd Train Station. The night had already turned out, not what both had expected it to be, but it seemed that the night was about to get interesting for both.
As Kelly and Nathan walked away from the University, watching them with keen interest, four Angels stood on top of the University buildings with six more, looking out of six different windows.
