Mai's POV

"You're home rather late." I glanced into the family room where Ryo was reading something off the screen of his laptop. He didn't even look up at me.

"I was rehearsing for Friday's show." I pulled my bag up on my shoulder and fidgeted in the doorway between the foyer and the room my brother was occupying.

Ryo shut his computer and placed it on the coffee table before standing and approaching me. We stood in silence as he looked me over, evidently trying to decide if I was being truthful or not. After a few moments, he nodded and turned away from me to gather his things, "You should eat something."

"I'm not hungry." I confessed. "I ate on the way home."

Ryo scoffed, "Then go get your homework done." I watched him disappear up the stairs and then into the left wing of the house.

I sighed and headed up the stairs, but toward where my room was in the right wing. I shut my door and tossed my bag onto my bed and pulled off my jacket and hung it on the back of my desk chair before collapsing onto my bed. I still had so much work to do, but no motivation to do anything. I rolled over and started digging through my backpack for my school planner.

When I'd finally started my homework, my phone beeped from across the room. I sighed to myself and glanced over to where it was on my night stand. I didn't have time for that. It was probably just Cho informing me about her latest obsession. It had been almost three weeks since the Hitachiin incident and she'd yet to find someone new, which was unusual for her.

I continued solving equations, half asleep when it beeped again. I glanced over my shoulder and then went back to solving. Another five minutes of silence and then it beeped again. I let out a noise of frustration and got up, slamming my book shut, and stomped over to where my phone was. Annoyance left me when I noticed it was not Cho's name lighting up on my screen, but Tamaki's. I opened the messages and read through them quickly before picking up my jacket and depositing my phone into my pocket.

I rushed down the stairs taking two steps at a time. My hand had barely touched the door handle when I heard my name being called out. I froze and turned around, "Yes?"

Ryo was standing at the top of the staircase looking down at me. His normally slicked back red hair was dripping and falling into his eyes. "Where are you going?"

I pulled out my phone and held it up for him to see, "Cho's house. There's a slight emergency." I lied.

He looked me over for a moment. "Is your homework done?" I nodded. He sighed and waved me off, "Don't be out to late."

I nodded and grabbed my wallet and keys and was out the door. When I got to Tamaki's, I went around to the second mansion on the Suoh property and parked. I walked up the steps and knocked. The door swung open and I was pulled inside before I even had time to register who had opened the door.

"Mai, I'm so glad you're here!" Tamaki practically shouted.

"Yes, I'm here. Now what was the emergency?" I asked already exhausted. Tamaki was a good guy and my friend, but I could only spend so much time with him without feeling drained by his energy.

"Well come in here and I'll tell you." I followed him through the foyer and into the living room where the rest of his club was.

The twins were lying on the floor in front of the TV playing some game, Takashi Morinozuka and Mitskuni Haninozuka were sitting on the couch, Mitskuni seemed to be only half awake, Haruhi Fujioka was reading from a text book looking thoroughly annoyed to be here, and kyoya was writing in his little black book. When I walked in he glanced up and offered me the smallest of smiles before returning to his notebook.

"What's going on?" I asked, thoroughly confused why I was apparently called to a club meeting of a club I was not in.

"Take a seat Miss Kato" Kyoya requested, shutting his book and standing up. "This was not my idea." He mumbled coming to stand beside me in an attempt to get me to take a seat.

I glanced up at him and allowed him to lead me to an empty seat before standing by Tamaki. "Alright, so we had an idea." I noticed Kyoya roll his eyes at the word 'we' and giggled. Tamaki glanced at his vice president, but didn't question it. "The Host Club wants to work with the dance club for a fundraiser for the school. Since you're in the club, we thought you might be able to help us."

I looked Tamaki and shook my head, "I mean that sounds great, but you should really talk to the team captain. I don't get to make those kinds of calls. Or any calls really." I mused more to myself than to the hosts. Then I looked back at Tamaki, "This wasn't an emergency by the way. You could have asked me about this over the phone instead of having me rush over here."

"Well now that you're here, we can all hang out!" Tamaki smiled and opened his arms in a grand gesture.

I looked around at the room. Everyone, Tamaki aside, seemed dead. I nodded to myself, "Yeah, no I think I'm going to head out. I will text you the name and number of the dance captain and you can ask her about your idea tomorrow at a reasonable time."

Tamaki made to protest, but was cut off by Kyoya, "I should be heading home as well. It's getting rather late. Miss Kato, I'll walk you to your car?" He asked. I nodded and he let me walk out in front of him.

Kyoya's POV

I cast a silencing glance to Tamaki, who looked ready to say something stupid before shutting the door behind Mai and myself. "So, was calling me over here in the middle of the night not your idea or was working with my club not your idea?" She asked glancing up at me sideways.

"Neither actually. I was against working with you at all actually." I confessed.

Mai put her hand over her heart dramatically and stopped. I turned around and looked at her. "That hurt, Mr. Ootori. Why don't you want to work with me?" I glanced back to the house and then placed my hand on the small of her back and pushed her along with me.

"It isn't that I don't want to work with you. I just don't understand the point of working with the dance team on this project." I explained.

"Did you drive here?" She asked, stopping in front of an older car.

I shook my head, "I was going to call my driver to come retrieve me."

She seemed to be debating something for a moment before pulled a set of keys out of her purse, "Let me drive you."

I looked her over. I didn't even know she could drive. "Is it safe?" I asked. I didn't need to get into an accident and have my father come pick me up only to find me with her.

She shrugged, "Do you trust me?" I watched her get into the car and the engine roared to life without waiting for an answer. She rolled down the window and looked up at me, "Are you coming?"

I sighed and got in on the passenger side. The car took off quickly and we were soon speeding down the highway. "Slow down." I barked, knowing we had to be going over the speed limit.

Her smile dropped when she looked at me and did as I asked, mumbling a small apology. "Left on this street, right?" She asked.

"Yes."

She turned the car gently and the drive continued in silence. "Do you know how to drive?" She asked.

"Yes, I know how to drive." I said.

"Then why didn't you drive to Tamaki's?" She questioned, her eyes flickered to me for a second before returning to the road.

"I didn't want to."

"Do you play any instruments?" She asked, changing the subject suddenly.

"I'm sorry?"

"Instruments? Do you play any?" She questioned again.

"Violin. I haven't played in a very long time though." I replied. "Do you?"

She shook her head, "No. I wish I did, but my father thought my time would be better spent at the hospital. I had to fight him to do dance. Right?"

I nodded and she turned the car again, "Sixth house on the left."

Mai seemed to be counting in her head and then stopped the car outside the gates of my family's estate. "Alright, here we are. I'll see you tomorrow?"

I nodded, "Of course, good night, Miss Kato." I shut the door and waited for her to drive away before heading inside.
