Omigod I'm so, so sorry for the long wait! It's just there was writer's block and school and homework and then I got sick, and, yeah. But, school's almost over and I'm almost free! More free time means more time for updates! This one took a while to write because I couldn't get past writing this one part for a long time. I hope a lot of you are still reading this, even with the unpredictable and long waiting times. If you like it, if you didn't like it or if you have some suggestions, please review. (and if you catch a spelling error or something, please tell me so I can fix it ASAP).
Sam-
We've been driving for three hours now. John has been asleep for all of it. He won't wake up, no matter how hard we shake him. We even splashed a little cold water on his face and he didn't respond. All he is doing now is shifting around once in a while. Bored, I take out the tablet from the duffel bag we brought. I gasp when I see it. Sarah looks over and a concerned look crosses her face when she sees me. I know I must look freaked out.
"Sam?" she asks. I turn the tablet towards her and show her the map with the dots. There are still three dots in Florida, but there is also one in West Virginia. There is one heading in a straight line towards California and another one heading towards Canada. Sarah gasps when she sees the tablet. "Oh. My. God."
"I know, right? There's an extra dot. The map only showed seven dots before, but even after one of us died, there are still seven dots. How is that possible?" I say. Sarah shakes her head to show that she has no clue. "I think the one heading for Canada is Ella. That one looks like it came from Chicago. The one moving towards California is probably Five. But, who is the one in West Virginia?"
"I don't know, hey Adam, are there any other surprise Loric we should know about?" Sarah asks as she looks over at Adam. Adam shrugs and looks down at all the Chimæra sleeping on his lap as lizards.
"I didn't even know about Ella," he replies. Do you think we should try to wa…" John cuts off Adam as he starts to scream and wildly thrash around. I unbuckle my seat belt and help Sarah as she tries to pin him down so he doesn't hurt himself.
John continues to scream for a couple more seconds before his eyes snap open and he shouts, "A THIRD SHIP!" When he seems to recover and snap out of whatever trance he's in, John looks around fearfully while trying to catch his breath.
"John," Sarah begins slowly. "What do you mean by 'A third ship?'" John stares at her for a little while before answering.
"A third ship. There was a third ship." The whole car sits in silence as we think about what John said.
"How do you know?" my dad asks from the driver's seat. John looks down.
"I saw it. I saw it in my dream."
John-
"What? How?" Sam is the first one to respond to what I said. I sigh, not really wanting to explain my dream. It was terrible. It showed a family running from Mogadorians. Only the mom, her kids and her Chimæra made it off. I was forced to watch the destruction of Lorien all over again; just this time it featured a specific group of people other than us. There were nine of them trying to escape. Only six of them actually made it. In my dream, I saw our ship leave about a half an hour to an hour before theirs did. Then, I saw snippets of things that happened on their ship. I woke up when the third ship landed.
"Well?" Adam urges from his seat, bringing me back to reality. Sighing again, I begin to explain my dream.
…
"…And that's when I woke up," I finish. The car fills with an awkward silence. While we all sit, I check my ankle for the scar I almost forgot about. I gasp in shock when I realize the fourth scar is gone. So when I felt that freezing feeling instead of the usual burning, it was the scar freezing off. It was the opposite of when someone dies. Someone must be alive again. But who is it? Where are they? And more importantly: How are they alive?
Maddy-
"Wake up Maddy, it's almost time to go." Groggily, I blink my eyes open and stare at Katarina who is kneeling in front of me. "We're going to walk to civilization. I think we could all use a stay at a motel with the luxuries of running water, electricity, and air conditioning," she says.
I nod and sit up. When I do, the first thing I notice is Liz bent over the fire, cooking something. Sandor and Melody are practicing hand-to-hand combat off to the side of our little clearing. I push myself to my feet and walk over to Liz. When I get over to her, Liz gives me some of the fish she was cooking and a handful of berries.
"Breakfast is served," she says with a grin. I smile and accept the food. As I turn around to sit back on my makeshift bed I hear a loud "oomph" sound and a thud. I glance over at Melody and Sandor and see Melody lying on the ground and dramatically moaning while Sandor stands above her.
"Liz, please tell me you're almost ready to make a wormhole," he says. Liz sighs and shakes her head.
"Sorry, no can do, buddy. I jumped all the way from Brazil to here, slammed myself up against a force field that zaps legacies about ten times and, despite having my energy spent, I jumped, yet again, to you guys. So no, I'm not ready. It's taking me longer than expected to recover and I'm kinda worried. And I doubt you want me to mess up and have all of us stranded in nowhere forever," she exclaims. "Not to mention it's one of my newer legacies that I haven't quite mastered yet."
"Wait, you're telling me that you're using some legacy that you haven't fully taken control of yet, and you expect us to trust you?" Katarina asks. Liz gives Katarina a look.
"Yes."
Ella-
Pain. There is pain everywhere. I can feel it, though I can't really feel the separate parts of my body. I can only feel the pain. It hurts so much. Everything hurts. I try to move, but I'm not sure it worked. Then, all at once, just as quickly as it started, the pain disappears and I pass out.
John-
"The one dot heading for Canada has stopped." I look up from the book in my hands. Sarah insisted that I do something so I decided to read. It was a good thing too, I was extremely bored before and this book is interesting. Also, there isn't anyone else to really talk to. Malcolm is sleeping in shotgun and Adam wanted some peace and quiet while he drove. Sam is next to Sarah and he is also sound asleep. Sarah has been studying the tablet since Sam found the new dot. Something tells me that I don't know the person yet. I don't know why I think that, I just do.
"Really?" I ask. Sarah nods. "Where?"
"Just outside Vancouver," she answers.
"Alright then, we'll get her when the rest of the team is back together," I say. Instead of opening the book up again, I lean against the window and fall asleep.
Ella-
When I wake up, I'm numb. I still can't move, and I still can't feel anything. But at least the pain is gone. As the numbness slowly subsides, I realize I can finally open my eyes. When I do, the first thing I see is a bright blurred mess of colors. After blinking and focusing my vision, the colors start to separate and become clearer. The next sense to return is sound. The eerie silence is replaced with the whirring of air conditioning, and ruffling of fabric. After sound comes touch. I first feel a velvety softness of covers on a bed. Then I notice there is a slight breeze of cool air blowing over my face due to the air conditioning. My sense of smell and my taste comes back too. The room smells fresh, like lemons. There is a bitter taste in my mouth, almost like it's leftovers from a poison.
"Hello?" I ask quietly. "Marina? John? Nine? Eight? Sam? Sarah? Six? Anyone? Is anyone there?" I get no reply. Pushing down my fear, I gather enough strength to sit up. When I do, I look around the room.
I'm sitting on a bed with white sheets. There is a white carpet on the floor and the walls are also white. There is a desk, a bookshelf and a nightstand next to the bed. There are only three doors. I get up and walk over to the door closest to me. It's locked. I try the other one and find that it leads to a bathroom. The third one leads to a closet with expensive clothes in it.
"What is going on?" I whisper to myself as I explore the closet. When I'm done, I return to the bed and collapse onto it, trying to send someone a telepathic message while doing so. Help, please. I don't know where I am and I can't get out. I think the Mogadorians have me.
John-
"Mama?" an eight-year-old girl asks, tugging on her mother's shirt. "Where are we?"
"We're in Brazil, darling. This will be your new home," the mother replies.
"I don't like it," a soon-to-be eleven year old says, her lips twisted into a frown. She stands on her mother's other side, her hand entwined with a curly-haired nine-year-old's. "I wanna go home."
"Well we can't go home, so this will have to do," the mother sighs. Inside though, she's relieved. As long as her kids still complain like they usually do, everything is still all right. Well, as close to all right as possible.
"Where's sissy Nova and Suzie?" the youngest child asks.
"They're almost here, Rebecca. They're coming now."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"What are they doing?" Little Rebecca asks, her big light-brown eyes staring at her mother's forehead.
"Getting supplies," was all the woman said.
…
The third born child sits at the dining room table, staring blankly at the food in front of her. They have just settled into their safe house off the coast of Brazil. It took two years to find this place and another just to add furniture. They've already started designing a training room that's underground, and, if the fourth born child's blueprints are correct, huge. The thirteen-year-old is far smarter than she will ever be, thanks to her first legacy. Then again, she was a natural-born genius before, and now she's even smarter. By the time her sister is the same age as her, it will be completed.
Her older sister has become quieter. She keeps to herself and doesn't talk much about Collin or her father. But then again, how could she? They were the reason the nineteen-year-old turned into the stone-cold person she is now. She talks less than her eldest sister, and when she does, what comes out isn't nice. The only time she isn't cold like ice is when she is in her room, alone, drawing. It's so weird. She acts so tough yet she draws. It just doesn't match her personality. Her legacies are almost finished developing, but she feels like they'll never be enough. What's the point of legacies if you feel too much like shit to focus on them? What's the point when you're too busy trying to keep up the act of being emotionless and strong?
…
"Come on! Focus!" the second eldest sister shrieks at the second born. She's barely heard though, and it's not enough to snap the twenty-four year old out of her reverie. She's too busy thinking about Collin and her father to pay attention. She's now considered the eldest child in the family, but she's not. At least, she's not supposed to be. Her older brother is dead. Her eldest sibling is dead. And if her mom dies, she'll be the one in charge. But she can't do that. She's too weak, too nice, to take control like that. Then again, she can't let her combat partner take control either. She'd run the family with a frosty iron fist. It's funny how her sister is considered the cold one when she's really the one with the cold legacy.
Her thoughts are interrupted by a sharp, painful hit to the side of her head. "Focus!" her sister shouts, louder this time. In her combat partner's hand is a pipe staff. The cold-hearted girl made it herself, modeling it after a basic joust and carving intricate designs in with a knife. The ends have small, sharp blades on them, like the tip of a spear. When it is fully extended, it is six feet in length and it can be separated in the middle to form two swords. When it's separated, the flat, pipe-like part contracts, leaving two and a half feet of a sword that curves into a deadly arc when told to. Nova has used her magnetism, which extends to controlling metals, to bend the swords when she wants. It has made using anything with metal difficult to be used against her. But they are training partners for a reason.
Susan's main weapon is a whip. It's pretty deadly on its own but what makes it better is how it is such a good conductor. The padding around the handle prevents it from hurting her. She transfers her energy blasts and Cryokinesis into the whip and can either shock someone of freeze them. It's a pretty useful weapon.
…
Their safe house, or the Compound, is finally complete. The upper floors were done far before the rest. They finished building the training room when she was fourteen. She wasn't satisfied with only that, though. She had to do better. So she did. She whipped up a plan to build an even better training room. One that's bigger, more complicated and more intense than the one they had. She's turning twenty now, and their newest training center is complete. She calls it the arena.
…
I wake up when someone starts shaking me. I blink my eyes open and the first thing I notice is that it's dark now. I rub my eyes and sit up, cracking my neck to get rid of the stiffness. I can't help but think back to my weird dream. Usually, when I have a dream, I don't listen to someone else's thoughts. So, how and why could I hear their thoughts in this one? I push down the questions starting to build up in my mind. I can pay attention to them later.
"How long was I asleep?" I ask as I start to stretch. Sarah yawns from beside me.
"About six hours," Sam answers. "We're stopping for gas now and we just wanted to make sure everyone has gone to the bathroom so we don't have to stop later."
"Okay, is there anything you want me to buy while I'm inside?"
"Some snacks would be nice," Sarah murmurs drowsily.
"Okay then," I say as I grab some money and get out of the car. While I'm walking towards the store I hear a familiar voice in my head saying: Help, please. I don't know where I am and I can't get out. I think the Mogadorians have me.
Marina-
"I can't take another second holed up in here!" Nine yells loudly, pulling on his hair in frustration. I sigh but can't help agreeing with him. We have spent the entire day in here. And unlike Nine's penthouse, we have practically nothing to do. We haven't left at all today, which means we didn't go to the pool or to the beach or somewhere else that's more interesting than here. All we did was eat, watch TV, help Nine try to practice his new legacy and argue. Nine didn't practice his legacy as much as he would have liked but when he tried to turn it on and off he would get a terrible headache and have to lay down for about an hour.
Around 5:00 pm, Nine was too exhausted and decided to hold onto the stone and watch TV with Six and I. The stone apparently helps regulate his legacy. When the stone passes through his hand, he also passes through something, which is usually the floor. But when he doesn't let it pass through his hand, it keeps him solid and able to grab things without passing through them.
"Neither can I!" Six yells back, just as frustrated. I think being confined has made the both of them ten times more irritable than they usually are. They were just arguing (again) about what to watch. Six wanted one action movie and Nine wanted a different one. Sadly, there's only one TV in this hotel, which makes it much, much worse.
"Stop fighting!" I shout at the two of them. Being in here has made me irritable as well. The three of us continue to argue until I hear something. I shush them and they watch me, waiting to see what's wrong.
"What?" Nine hisses. I ignore him and instead try to find the voice again. Luckily, the same message repeats itself: Help, please. I don't know where I am and I can't get out. I think the Mogadorians have me. It's Ella. I look over at Nine and Six but they have both fallen silent, their faces scrunched up in concentration. I know they both heard it too.
"Ella," I whisper. "She's in trouble."
So, I'm getting close to bringing them all together. And as for my plan: it's gone. I have no idea what happened to it so now I'm just making everything up from here. Oh, and if you catch any plot holes, tell me so I can fix it. Also, I have an important question for you guys to decide: Should Five stay a traitor or should he really be good? I have absolutely no idea what to do with him, so, you can decide. And with that plan went my pairings. So please also suggest pairings. I have only one in mind and the two characters haven't even met yet! And even that isn't going to happen 100%! Anyway, I apologize again for the late update and I hope you review. Have a nice day/night!
