A Quidditch match, yeah, not something Rose would think of when she was thinking about "fun things to do in her spare time". The one and only reason she was going to this match was that she hoped her family would stop bothering her about it - or at least, that's what she told her family. No one actually knew she was going, because it was her change of seeing Scorpius again nor did they know she invited him and his family for New Year's Eve. Only her granny knew, because she was the only one that could handle this kind of crazy. She always said that after her uncle Fred - Rest In Peace - and uncle George, she could handle everything. The two of them had been a pretty good prank team and no one had ever quite reached that level yet. Her cousins Fred and James were probably a good competition, but granny liked to say that they weren't quite there yet. Fred and James both have the prankster-genes, as uncle Harry once told them, because James was named after uncle Harry's father and he did some pretty crazy stuff as well. Because of the fact that pranking was a very big thing in her family, Rose was able to do crazy stuff such as inviting a Malfoy over for New Year's Eve. Still, Rose knew that in the unlikely case that her father would find out - and that was very unlikely as there wouldn't be enough food present for him to be so alert - she would be dead. Rose just hoped her father would see the good in him, just like her uncle Harry was able to. He already knew Scorpius, of course, as he was friends with Albus, but it was Rose who talked to him about Scorpius's father for a job, which was something he did frown upon. If her uncle Harry was this understanding, surely her father would be like that too, wouldn't he?

Well, first she needed to survive this Quidditch match. She wouldn't actually be surprised if she was going to die of boredom. She already saw her family regretting that they bothered her so much about it and her gravestone would say: Here lies Rose. Dying, doing something she hated, but doing this for the ones she loved. Rose grinned and looked up. Wow, these were really good places. Her father had convinced her to stop whining, as she'd chosen to go here herself and they were able to get the best places. Truth be told, both of those statements were true, unfortunately. Her mother gave her a supportive hug, feeling the same way Rose did. The difference between them was the fact that her mother went to every game. She'd never missed a game at Hogwarts nor would she start missing them now. Her mother loved the way everyone around her was in love with the game and she was there because of the good spirit. No, that wasn't the way Rose could look at it. The only reason she was here now was...

"Red!" she heard a voice yell at her and she looked up almost immediately. Yes, there it was. The reason she was her.

"Red?" she heard her father asking in a, for her, distance. Rose didn't react to what her father said or did, she just looked at the blond haired boy in front of her and tried not to become...red.

"Scorpius! Hey! How are you? Where are you sitting?" Rose asked in a blur of words. Scorpius laughed and waved with his tickets. As it being the winter season, he was wearing Scotland's colors in his clothes. His beanie and scarf almost hid his whole face, but his two bright red cheeks - because of the cold, of course - were visible and his incredible smile were visible.

"Well, we do have some pretty good places..." he said, but before he could finish his sentence, his father cut him of.

"Don't brag Scorpius," the person next to him said. He looked a lot like Scorpius, only older and he had a deeper voice. This was the Draco Malfoy, Scorpius's father.

"Doesn't this scenario look familiar?" Rose's father suddenly started to interfere. He looked pleased with himself and Rose knew it was because of the fact that they had the best seats in the whole stadium. This time, Malfoy wasn't going to top him. For Rose, it wasn't about this and she just hoped her father would go away so she could talk to Scorpius a bit longer.

"Dad, I was just about to say that our places aren't as good as hers!" Scorpius said and with that, something apparently clicked into his father's mind. He grinned and Scorpius eyes became big and he looked down quickly.

"Hers?" his father asked while looking up at Rose. He stared her directly in the eyes and asked: "So you are Red then?" He ended his question with a soft smile, but Rose felt herself becoming Red and nodding shyly.

"She's called Rose, not that's any of your business!" her father said. Instinctively his wild-father-instinct had kicked in and after seeing Draco Malfoy making his daughter shy, he was looking for his wand to defend her.

"Oh, Ron please, don't make a scene. Not here, with Rita Skeeter all over the place," her mother said. Rose was immediately relieved, with her mother there, her father wouldn't murder Scorpius's father, Scorpius and then after that, herself. She saw her mother looking down at what was happening a bit lower down.

"Oh, Draco, hi! How lovely to see you and your son! I'm really sorry, but we should get going. Catch you later?" she said, but Rose doubted whether she meant it. She gave Rose a knowing look, looked back and waved at the duo.

"Yeah, we'll see," Scorpius's father said vaguely and he waved back.

"Bye Red!" Scorpius said, giving her one last look, before joining his father.

"Bye Scorpius," Rose whispered as he walked away.

"Rose, come on, let's go. That worthless ferret called you Red instead of Rose. What kind of insult is that? Please don't say you're going to color your hair now because of that? That he would go so far to make you hate yourself...oh that boy, but he's gone now and the match is beginning in a few minutes, so let's go, go, go!" her father said as he took her hand and dragged her trough the crowd. Her mother was walking behind her and she only stared at her. One part with sympathy, the rest was mostly surprised. It was only now that Rose realised what kind of weird feelings she was feeling right now. Without being able to explain wat she felt exactly, she knew that this was the kind of feeling she was supposed to be feeling for Joe. Joe, he was a better match. Even her father would approve of Joe.

"Hermione," her father hissed at her mother, "why were you so friendly out there?" To which her mother only rolled her eyes.

"Because, Ron, he was being friendly and there's absolutely no reason to be mad at him. He became a man, please do that too, one day," she hissed back, but when she shot a look at Rose, she just smiled.

At the end of the game, Rose still wasn't sure who had actually won the game. It was some kind of case of the snitch being caught by one team, but the other team having more points. Or...it could've not been one of those things and Rose just didn't understand Quidditch. Maybe that last one, it certainly sounded the most logical to her. It was now just loads of people walking towards their broom, pokey or a good apparating spot so they could go home. There were only two cars out there and one of them was uncle Harry's and one of them theirs. Rose had spotted a man and a guy, both with blond hair, who quickly apparated when they'd found a safe spot.

"Come on, darling, let's go," her mother said to her. Yes, they really needed to go. Rose needed to think about everything. On top of that was Hugo also mad at her for making their father angry. He went on and on about how many muggles he would kill and how much he would yell. Rose knew about that and she knew they all didn't like her father's way of driving, but for now she didn't care. If Scorpius and she really were friends, her parents would have to accept that. This was her choice and her life! As a seventeen-year-old, she was surely old enough to make these kind of decisions on her own! No, of course her father would never agree to that.

"So, Rose, your mother and I would like to have a conversation with you," he began, when he made his way inside of their home. Hugo gave her a sympathising look and walked towards the stairs to go to his room.

"Okay, talk then," Rose said boldly and she saw her mother rolling her eyes. Yet wasn't it her mother who had encouraged her to be nice towards Scorpius? Wasn't she the one who was friends with his mother? So why wasn't Rose allowed to be friends with him then?

"Rose," her father said with a bit of anger in his voice. Usually was this the point where Rose would apologise and take her anger out on Hugo, but not today.

"Do not 'Rose' me or 'Do you know who you're talking to?' me! I don't understand why I'm doing so much wrong now! Mum told me to be nice to Scorpius and thus I tried. He actually saved me from Joe, by the way!" Rose said with more anger in her voice than before. Her father's face became more red with the second and she saw her mother looking away. She'd written her mother about what happened - or at least, the gist of it - but even though if she'd written a letter strictly for her mother, her father would read it too and the other way around.

"He saved you from Joe...?" her father asked with a very, very confused look. Yes, her mother hadn't shown him the letter.

"Yeah, Joe had some drinks and he did some strange things that evening, but Scorpius saved me from him!" Rose exclaimed, not caring about the fact her mother hadn't shared this piece of news with him. They could fight that out later on.

"Ron, she wrote me. I didn't want to upset you, because Rose explained to me it wasn't a big deal and she forgave him. She invited him over for New Year's, which I think is nice. Let's just see how it goes then," her mother explained. Rose didn't want to talk about these kind of things anymore, because her parents were talking about her like she wasn't there. So she decided to just slowly remove herself from the conversation, physically speaking then.

"He's a Malfoy, Hermione! A Malfoy, with our daughter! I don't want him near her! It's obvious that he likes her - and yes, even I noticed that," she overheard her father say. Scorpius liked her? No of course he didn't - and if he did, then just as friends. Rose felt a weird feeling in her chest and she didn't get it. What was this? These feelings were very confusing to say the least.

"Yeah, I know," her mother sighted, "although I'm surprised that you saw it too. She likes him too, you know, but if she only knew..." What? If she only knew what exactly? Of course she liked him, they were friends!

"I think it's better if they both stay this oblivious for some time, it will fly over then," her father said. Ouch, that hurt, but he was right. It was already Christmas Break and they had a little bit more than half the year to go. What are the odds of them staying friends, knowing that they only started as being sort-of-friends for such a short time. It wouldn't last, would it?

"I think they know each other better than they realise. They are very similar and that was were the hate came from, I guess, but now they're onto a kinder path, which I think will lead to more. From what I've experienced, they either love or hate each other," her mother said lovingly. No, that wasn't true, was it? Rose didn't know what to think anymore.

"I don't think I like it so much if they start loving each other. He's...he's gonna destroy her," her father said. There were so many worries in his voice hearable, but Rose's anger started to activate again. Why was her father so convinced that he was going to destroy her? Why not the other way around?

"And that statement is based on what, his surname? Yes, Ron, he's a Malfoy, but he isn't his father. On top of that, Draco did apologise. To all of us, individually. You can't imagine how hard that must've been for him, seeing as you just walked away. Did you ever think that you are the one who created the situation like it is now? Because of you, Rose hated him before she'd even met him! Six years of such strong feelings of hatred to someone is also six years of learning the best ways to hurt someone and in order to do that, you have to get to know that person. There's a reason they say that hate and love are close friends," her mother answered puzzling. Every little thing her mother said confused her more and more. Why didn't she know about this kind of stuff?

"You always sympathise with him, while I'm not that sure about him. Perhaps that ferret and his son have had this all planned out from the start to ruin Rose," Ron said overly dramatic. Rose could just feel her mother's anger coming up. She always spared it up until some point, which was at this moment now.

"Don't be such an ass, Ronald! If you ever even think about saying this again, I swear I'll kick you out! This is all you, you created this between Rose and Scorpius and I'm not saying whether I like it or not, but this is how it is now! Rose always listened to you and you took advantage of that by trying to better Malfoy again, using our child! I think it's good that Rose and Scorpius are friends. He challenges her like no one does and he understands what it is to live with 'famous parents'. Rose is seventeen years old and it's time for us to let her make her own decisions, which will sometimes lead to realising that she made a mistake, but that's life, Ron! When we were seventeen we were running around searching Merlin knows where for Horcruxes - you know, that time we thought 'we knew it all'! Let's not ruin this for her, she needs to take her time to make her own mistakes and to deal with that!" she said, calming down with every sentence. Rose heard her parents talk a bit more, but she wasn't focused on them anymore. Slowly she walked on the stairs towards her room. Her parents never really talked about what happened in their last year where they should've been at Hogwarts. The Battle of Hogwarts wasn't a subject you could just drop in a family-reunion. Uncle George always walked away when someone mentioned the battle. When Teddy had been at Hogwarts he was asking everyone loads of stuff about his parents. He eventually discovered that his grandmother, uncle Harry and granny and grandpa Weasley were able to tell him the most. The first time he'd mentioned the battle was also the first time everyone but Fred, James and Roxanne heard about their dead uncle Fred. It had been a tragic story and uncle George had tried to listen casually among everyone, but when the last moment of uncle Fred was told, he was gone. Uncle Harry's eyes had been focused on something outside the window. He was the one who'd probably lost the most people. Rose'd seen the serieus look on her aunt Ginny's face, a look she normally didn't do. Aunt Ginny did do fun, brave, adventurous and enthusiastic or angry when James, Albus or Lily had done something bad - which was most of the time James - but never had she shown such a serious look. Rose even saw her mother tearing up slightly. The family had been quiet for ages, until some of the kids weren't able to keep their serious face anymore. They started giggling and playing games again and before Rose knew it, her parents weren't reminiscing the past anymore. It had clearly been a hard time for them, but no one knew exactly what had taken place during the war. Now Rose started to think about it, she didn't even know why her father hated Mr. Malfoy so much. Of course, he had been irritating at school, but her father had never told her anything real about the war. The History of Magic lessons sometimes helped, but she was only told the most real and basic facts about the war, because most parents weren't comfortable with their children knowing everything. History shouldn't repeat itself, nor should we hang onto a time we're not living anymore, was the argument that made the Ministry decide that all students would just get cold, harsh facts. Rose absolutely didn't know whether Scorpius knew more about the war or not - and if he did, it looked like he wasn't judging her for it. She really had to see him and to talk to him. Would he be there, at her party? Would he dare?
