Obito woke with a horrible headache and was unable to move even his left hand. He moaned and forced his right eye open. Rin and Minato stood over him. Both looked relieved.

"Obito, how are you feeling?" she asked kindly.

"Like I got buried in a cave in all over again. I can't move."

"Don't worry, those are just the aftereffects of using your mangekyo sharingan," Minato said smiling.

"Mangekyo? But…no one has used that sharingan since Madara."

"Well, it seems you're the first then. When we found you, you were passed out but the eye was still activated. And it seems Kakashi was also affected, he passed out shortly after you activated yours. It seems neither of you could take it for long…Obito, do you remember what you were using it for?"

"A ninja attacked me and then he just disappeared. Wait, is Kakashi going to be alright?!" Obito asked with a sense of urgency.

"He'll be fine, he just needs some rest is all. And so do you." Rin smiled. Obito could barely move his head, it hurt, but he looked over anyway and saw Kakashi sleeping. Obito moved his head back in place thought's going erratic. So he'd actually not only awakened the sharingan, but he'd also used mangekyo. But was Kakashi's passing out a price he had to pay? Was his eye still somehow connected to him?

"We're about to inform the incident to the Uchiha…"

"No, don't sensei!" Obito said with a new fear. The Uchiha clan couldn't know. They'd hate him even more if they did. And they'd probably be mad about Kakashi being able to use mangekyo…not that he could, they said he'd promptly passed out after it activated, but it didn't mean he couldn't learn. And Kakashi was always an efficient student. He felt fear for the peril of his best friend.

"Why not?" Minato asked.

"Because they hate me. And they'll hate me even more if they know I can use it. They might kill me… and Kakashi."

Minato frowned, looking disturbed by this, "Why would they kill their own clansman?"

"Because they hate me and I'm a traitor to them."

"I see. Alright we'll keep this between the four of us for now. Alright?"

Obito nodded and Rin and Minato left.

Obito watched Kakashi for a while, observing his face and how peaceful he was. He chuckled to himself, "Wish he was like that all the time."

"Like what?" A weak voice asked. Obito was surprised to get an answer from the silver haired boy.

"You ruined it. You were totally quiet for once and not making smug remarks, but then you had to open your mouth."

Kakashi laughed a little, his grey eye staring out its corner at Obito, "Funny, that's what I was thinking before you opened your loud and obnoxious mouth."

Obito glared, "Jerk."

"I missed a perfectly good dinner because of you. Now it's rotting on the floor of my apartment."

Somehow, hearing the silver haired boy's snotty remarks made Obito smile. At least using the mangekyo hadn't killed him.

"I was attacked."

"By who?" Kakashi asked, slowly moving his head to look directly into the young Uchiha's eye. There was concern in his eye.

"I don't know, some jerk, probably from the clan."

"They hate you that much?" Kakashi asked, his voice full of the same surprise Minato had expressed.

"Who cares, I told them I was moving out anyway. I hate living there. They're going to exile me anyway."

"Exile?"

"Yeah, who wants to be a part of their clan anyway," he grinned at Kakashi.

But Kakashi didn't seem nearly as happy, he moved his head back into place, moving it into the shadows so that Obito couldn't see it, "I'll give it back if you want."

Obito felt anger sweep over him; he regretted being so weak still. He hated it, his face heated, "Shut up Kakashi! It's a gift. I'm not taking it back. Keep it. I gave it to you for a reason. Stop with all the regret! It's not your fault! I made the choice, I gave you the eye, I saved you from the rock! Those were my choices. Stop acting like they were yours. You made yours and you saved me! If anyone's been the crybaby lately, it's been you!"

There was silence. It was a long silence and then Obito heard Kakashi take a breath, "You're right. I have been, because every time I see you, every time you say something, you remind me of him. I've spent years building up walls to make sure something like what happened to him never happened again. Then when you came along and did what you did, I was lost again. I don't know what to do anymore. How can I stop people from dying if nothing I do helps?!" Obito had never seen let alone heard Kakashi shed a tear in all their years of being team mates. Now suddenly he heard Kakashi fighting to hold it all back. There was also anger in the slightly younger ninja's voice. Obito suddenly had the urge to go to Kakashi and hold him, and comfort him. But he couldn't move.

"Because I didn't die. And what your father did was the right thing, no matter what anybody else says! You kept me from dying, so you did something right."

Kakashi didn't reply. Obito sighed, neither spoke for the rest of the day and neither needed to, because somehow they came to a silent agreement between one another.
