Shoutout again to Pllforver, for updating EVERY CHAPTER. I love you, all my loyal reviewers, and readers. Stick with me, as this is the first time I'm not typing in paragraph form. I was told it's easier to read, so I thought I'd try it out. Tell me how I did, eh? Anyway, I'm changing a couple names. SORRY.
READ THIS: Johan- Jonathan! My friend I named this after decided he didn't like his name.
Gage- Gary. Ditto for here. Idiots.
Sophi POV
I rolled over, avoiding getting pelted by a water balloon.
What the heck?
Then I heard Six yelling," Get up! You have 5 minutes!" She shot us what I guess was a death glare, at least that's what it seemed like, and Four popped a balloon right over an initiate!
Uh, can you spell mean?
I was kind of worried, well, no, really worried.
Four was so muscly, and mysterious, that every time he glanced at me, I was afraid I would get snapped in half!
And Six is tiny, but something tells me she could not me to the ground in a split second.
Tanna called it decked, whatever that means…
As Four yelled," 5 minutes!" I jumped out of the bed. Alex was already there, holding our clothes, and grabbing my hand.
Though everyone else was changing here, our former faction's values kept us from doing so.
Pulling off my Abnegation clothes, I felt a pang of remorse. Besides Alex, this was my last connection to my faction. My relationship with my faction was hanging by a thread.
Taking a deep breath, I yanked them all the way off, and reminded myself that Abnegation was my old faction.
I pulled on a baggy, navy blue t-shirt, and skinny jeans. It was the closest thing to colourful I could find that Dauntless had provided for us.
Alex finished dressing seconds before I did.
As I glanced in the mirror, I saw that we looked identical, I mean, more identical than usual.
Our shared features were put together in the same way. Jet black hair was held back in a high ponytail, still reaching down to our waists, our nonexistent curves disappearing in the baggy, unflattering clothes, but blue eyes that twinkled, and managed to look determined at the same time.
Our heads were held high, despite the ragging we were getting from the other initiates, completed with the defiant smirk across our faces.
As I glanced in the mirror again, I saw that now that we were wearing the same clothes, absolutely no one would be able to tell us apart.
I took off at a run, grabbing Alex's hand and yanking her after me.
If I could help it, we were not going to be late.
Alex POV
I pushed open the door, almost running into Six.
She glared at me, narrowing the blue eyes that she had. "You two are late."
I returned the look, meeting her gaze. I wasn't going to be just another Stiff.
Six would remember both me and Sophi, even after we were long gone. I was going to make sure of it, and I knew Sophi would be happy to go along with me on that.
"Take a seat on the floor, girls." Six said.
Still holding Sophi's hand, I walked past Six.
The only spots left were next to Lula, the Erudite currently batting her eyelashes at Four, and Jacob, the Candor smart mouth, who also had also found himself in love with an instructor. At least it was Six.
Nevertheless, Sophi barreled past me, and sat down, offering both a sugary, fake smile.
I shook my head, wondering what had gotten into my golden, perfect sister.
Tris POV
I mentally winced as the transfers ran in, gasping for breath. I was determined to not show sympathy for them though.
"Only 5 minutes, 47 seconds. Not bad, but still late." Tobias took this opportunity to step in.
"Give me 47 pushups, one for every second you weren't here on time."
I inwardly grinned, as Tobias acted as drill sergeant, stepping on some of the initiate's backs, and yelling at them to hurry up their work, and that he was waiting.
"We're missing the Stiff Twins!" Belted out Jacob.
"Shut up!" Tobias hissed, as he glanced over at me, blue eyes telling the real story.
I nodded, gesturing to the door.
He mouthed , Go, and nodded as the initiates began to finish their assigned pushups, one by one.
"Get up! Sit over there!"
I placed a hand on the old fashioned door knob, only to be almost knocked over by the twins.
I resumed my stoic expression however, "You two are late" was all I said, very cooly.
The first one tried to stare me down, though maybe that was the second one. Dressed alike, the Stiffs looked like exact copies of each other.
Scary…
"Take a seat, on the floor." I said. The one who didn't try to stare me down, brushed purposefully into my shoulder.
I was about to do the hardest part of my job.
Lucky for me though, Tobias stepped up then, explaining the stages. What we'd do, and finally the rankings.
"Your actions and performance in these three stages will be used to determine your overall rankings."
The usual question next, from Lula. "Why do we need rankings, Sir?" As she said this, she winked at Four, visibly throwing out her chest, and sucking in her stomach. She completely ignored me, though that was to be expected, considering she didn't know I was his girlfriend.
Yes, I was still just his girlfriend. He hadn't asked me to marry him yet, though I think he was just nervous about it. Personally, I thought it was kind of cute. Big, bad instructor Four nervous.
Anyway, Tobias said," First, to determine what jobs you'll do if you get in. Second, only the top them initiates will make it, becoming full Dauntless members. The rest will leave here, walk through the front doors, and live the rest of their lives factionless."
Stony silence, then a shriek from Brooke, and a sob from an Amity. Nixie, I think.
I stepped in now, "So, let's get to work."
I stole a glance at the Abnegations, both were looking fazed, but I hadn't seen either of them looking so determined.
Alex POV
Six began to walk to the targets, looking slightly weary, though it might have been me.
Four yelled," Knife throwing! We will demonstrate, and them you can copy, and learn!"
He picked up four knives, as Six stood in front of the target.
"Are they doing what I think they're doing?" I whispered to Tanna, who merely shrugged, dumbfounded.
Four held the first knife, showing us the necessary stance, and how to hold the knife by the blade.
Then, he turned, facing the target.
"You about done?" he taunted, as he threw the first knife.
Soph let out a whimper, as it landed half an inch to the left of Six's head. Somehow, she didn't flinch.
Four tapped the spot between his eyebrows, and threw the second knife. I just grazed her head, and 10 gasps resonated through the room.
Her eyes were shining now, as if sharing a secret memory, and Four's were doing the same.
"Last one." He said. Four threw this one, and it nicked the cartilage of her right ear.
It was then I noticed that the cartilage piercing that normally occupied this part of her ear was gone. They had planned this.
My theory was proven as she didn't seem upset, but rather grinned.
"You did that on purpose."
He nodded. "Switch places."
Tanna's jaw was dropped, as she stared admiringly at our trainers.
"This, is something you shouldn't do try at home, unless of course, you know what you're doing."
Six threw the first knife, and it sunk into the target about a foot above the knife Four had thrown, because he was that much taller.
Throwing the second, he chuckled slightly. "You'll miss me Six."
She glared at him," Oh yeah? Well, I'd be more worried about you hitting me with a knife if you were aiming at the person next to me"
Six threw the third knife, before spinning on her heal, and throwing it directly towards his abdomen.
Lula screamed, as Brooke yelled," Oh my God!"
Four however, laughed and clamped his hand around the blade, placing the knife on the table, unhurt, as if nothing had ever happened.
Silence…I mean, you could have heard one of Sophi's bra's drop on the ground, and they're tiny. Then again, I shouldn't be talking since mine are the same size. Whatever.
Damn. I want to be able to do that, and look that cool while doing it.
I guess Sophi and Tanna were thinking the same thing, because us three lunged for a set of knives.
"Move!" Four yelled.
Holy crap, that pair are scary.
At his voice though, everyone else scrambled to grab a set. "Take a target, and get practicing!"
I stood in front of mine, and I saw Sophi beginning to practice without the knife.
I proceeded to do the same.
I saw Six looking at us, as something flashed in her eyes. Was that…pride? No, I doubt it, for some unknown reason, she seemed to hate us, or hold us to higher standards. Whatever.
Jacob glanced over at the two of us, snickering. "I knew you two were retarded, but I didn't think you were dumb enough to forget what a knife is.
He turned, attempting to coolly sink the knife into the painted piece of plywood.
Released it too early, I thought, and I grinned as I realized I was right.
Sophi and I watched as the knife clattered harmlessly about 3ft north of the target.
I snorted, as I heard Sophi smother a laugh.
However, I already had a response to this, and it rolled off my tongue sassily. "Well, we knew you were an idiot, but we didn't think you were blind."
From the corner of my eye, through peripheral vision, I saw Tanna shaking with silent laughter, mouthing," You show him girl!"
"Slightly more blind than Austin Rackeback with a blindfold on," Sophi added.
Rackeback was a leader a few years back, and was so blind that he wouldn't have been able to tell myself and Four apart, if we were standing right in front of him.
Everyone was laughing now, excluding Four and Six, though both were grinning slightly.
"Get back to work, initiates!" Six barked.
This time, I gingerly grabbed an actual knife.
No matter how much bravado I used, I was still scared to do this. Everyone back home would disapprove, I knew.
Suddenly, I grinned. Everyone back home would disapprove of this, so all the more reason to do it!
I held it more firmly now, and set a good stance. I held the knife, and replayed watching Four throw it in my head.
Pull, poise, and release!
I held my breath as my knife flew towards the target, hitting the outer ring. It poked a hold in the target, but didn't stick.
I grinned triumphantly, and glanced over at Six. I raised an eyebrow, as if saying, That good enough for you?
She merely shrugged, smirking.
I glowered at her, before angrily turning back to the target, determined to impress her.
Of course she didn't care though, I was just a weak initiate. A week, Stiff initiate.
But one question eluded me. Why would I want her to care?
Okay, I swear, Truth or Dare is coming. So is never have I ever. Thanks for sticking with me, and waiting so patiently for my super infrequent updates. BUT, I have the next three-ish chapters written, and just need to be typed. THANK YOU! ~Jace (I can't find a sexy, sexy warlock anywhere! Anyone know where I can find one? Sorta need one right now. Hehe…)
