Aloha, so oneshot. Short. For St. Patrick's Day. That is about all the information you need.
Let's get started!
Disclaimed!
Luck.
Interesting concept isn't it?
The idea that there is an otherworldly force that is giving you good opportunities.
Bad luck.
Another interesting concept.
Something working against you to make sure that nothing good comes your way.
Jinx was born in a village where both of these concepts were very widely believed. If a boy was your first child, that was good luck. If a white bird flew above you and it's shadow crossed your house, that was good luck. If the wind blew your door closed, and it ended up at 40 degrees, that was good luck.
Not even over exaggerating.
Cats though were bad luck. The colour grey was bad luck. Twins born within 2 minutes of eachother were bad luck.
Jinx and her twin sister were monstrosities.
Two girls with cat like eyes, grey skin, strange coloured hair that never stood straight. Oh yes, and Jinx was only a minute and a half older. They were the living symbols of bad luck to their people.
Jinx didn't like the idea of luck.
She wasn't lucky. She hated the nickname.
"Don't call me that." She would say to Rose.
"I don't like it." She would say to Leo.
"Why?" They would ask, smirks playing across their face, living evidence that they would only do it more now. Jinx would turn away, to keep from answering.
Because the truth was so difficult.
Luck was something that had haunted her for her entire life. It's absence haunted her. Her entire existence had seemed like nothing but bad luck for such a long a time. A jinx.
So she hated this day more then any day of the year. She could tolerate Christmas, Valentines Day too, Halloween was fun, and she absolutely thrived off of Friday the 13th.
But this day? This day. No. Not only did represent everything she wasn't, but it was the day her entire life fell apart. When the absence of luck finally showed itself, and decided to destroy everything around her.
Plus those leprechauns. So annoying. And she'd never liked green anyway.
But then, but then.
He must have known. He must have known how much she hated this day. And of course being him, he decided to turn it into the best day of her life.
Wally West knew exactly how her mind worked. And he knew scheduling her Titans initiation for Saint Patrick's Day was the perfect thing to do.
"Remember." He had whispered to her before she walked into the room. "You are not the absence of luck. It might as well be your middle name."
Then he zipped off with is signature grin, going to sit with the rest of the Titans.
Jinx gave him a hopeful smile.
Maybe 40 degree doors, and grey skin didn't matter. Maybe the white birds didn't matter. It was time she stepped out of the shadow her village had cast on her all those years ago.
Luck might as well be her middle name
Shorter then usual, but anyway. So I have another oneshot I might publish today. Maybe.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
