XOXO

Charlotte didn't know where she was running to, all she really knew was that she was heading for blood. The scent was calling her, like the sea had once called to her, and she'd be damned if she wasn't going to follow it.

A small part of her knew what she was doing had to be wrong, because what was she going to do when she found the source of the blood, except drink it dry? But that part was snuffed out as another gust of wind brought the scent the Charlotte.

Even through the bloodlust, Charlotte could notice at how quickly she was going, much faster than any human could imagine, and much more agile and graceful. She was easily dodging the obstacles just as quickly as they appeared. Even though her mind was consumed with her thirst, she let out a happy whoop, which is probably what saved her.

She rounded a corner, and a mile away, a campground came into view. Charlotte slowed down to a walk and hid behind a tree, looking close.

There were only two people there, sitting around a campfire. A man and woman, and with her vision, Charlotte saw the wedding rings on their left hands.

This is wrong, her conscious told her. The two campers smiled and gave each other a kiss, and almost against her will, her bare foot moved a step forward.

She could hear the blood rushing through their veins, if she hurried, maybe she'd be able to get the both of them-

"No," Charlotte murmured, gripping onto the tree for support. Her throat was burning, and her muscles twitched to run to the couple, bite into their throats, it would all be so easy…

Out of nowhere, two something huge and heavy tackled Charlotte to the ground. She screamed out in anger, clawing at whatever was holding her, when he barked, "Just calm down, Charlotte!"

He turned her over, and Charlotte found herself facing Emmett. "Let me go!" she screamed at him, wrenching an arm free and bringing a hand up to punch him in the face.

Emmett couldn't help but roll his eyes a little as the newborn Charlotte struggled beneath him. It was taking every bit of strength Emmett had to keep her pinned, and he was sure it wasn't going to be enough.

"Guys!" he shouted out into the woods, "I've got her!"

The other Cullens quickly appeared next to them, Edward and Carlisle carrying the body of a large buck, which they dumped in front of Charlotte. Her mind was racing, and the second Emmett let her arms go she attacked and drank the animal dry, not even stopping to think about it. For a few minutes, she just let go, giving over to her instincts. The blood washed over her tongue like nothing she had ever tasted, it was completely beyond words. The power it gave thrummed across her skin, she felt on top of the world…

The rest of the Cullens watched Charlotte eating, wondering what this meant for their home.

"You guys," Alice said quietly, "Maybe we should be finding the person who turned her."

Edward nodded in agreement. "Esmé, Rosalie, will you stay with her?"

"Yes," they said in unison. Esmé walked over to the red-haired girl. "We'll bring her back home when she's done eating," she said. "You guys go ahead. Find the one who did this."

"I can tell you who did this."

The other Cullens looked over as Charlotte stood up from the animal, wiping the blood off her lips, determination in her eyes.
