Blue and Hazel
An: I don't own Artemis Fowl.
Seven.
Bell walked to the large extravagant brick house. Two females in simple black and white invited her inside. The females closed the doors quickly and then scurried off to their other tasks. Bell took a deep breath before she began searching for Opal. Opal suggested Bell stay in close proximity at all times. Bell guessed Opal wanted someone who knew a lot about Paris nearby. She was fine with it because it was nice to stay at the mansion.
She trekked up the stairs softly and she kept an eye out for Miss Koboi. She emerged at the top of the staircase. Two hallways lay on each side of her. She took a right and finally found the room to left. Opal's door was wide open.
"Opal," she began softly as she entered.
Bell noticed the pixie was hunched over a hand mirror. She watched silently as Opal prodded an eyeball. A piece of circular lens popped from her eye. Opal backed away from the mirror and sighed in relief. Bell's curiosity kept her from calling Opal's name a second time.
"Bell?" Opal questioned curiously as she finally noticed the fairy.
"Pardon me, Opal," she bowed which was odd. "I didn't know I was intruding on….I am not quite sure."
Opal smiled softly. "Sometimes being persuasive isn't enough."
Bell nodded quietly as Opal gave her a mischievous smile.
"Now, if you don't mind, my eyes have been irritated lately," she stated waving at one of her reddening eyes. "I'll be available in a moment. Why don't you have an early lunch? Mr. Wiles has one of the best chef's in all of Paris."
"Thank you, Opal, you are too kind."
Opal smiled and then instantly went back to prodding the other eye. Bell exited the room quickly. She had much to think about now. On her way to the kitchen she ran in to Artemis. The young mud boy was rubbing his forehead.
"Artemis."
If Bell hadn't spoken up he would have surely tripped over her.
"Ah, Bell," Artemis stated as he gave her a brilliant smile. "You are here quite early."
Bell nodded softly. "I came here to discuss one of my tasks with Opal but she was preoccupied."
"Really?" Artemis glanced beyond her at the slightly opened door. "I was just going to speak with her but I think I will like a snack first."
"I was just on my way there," Bell commented.
She watched the human smile despite the obvious pain he was wrestling with.
"I guess you have a companion then," he remarked charmingly.
Bell couldn't help but flush a bit at the comment. Opal could possibly be correct. Bell read too much fairy tales on her free time. Once they arrived downstairs they entered the kitchen. There were two trays, one with tiny vegetables sandwiches and another with tiny candies. Artemis grabbed a tiny plate and placed two sandwiches and a sweet upon it. He grabbed the pitcher of gourmet lemonade and then poured two cups.
"Thank you," Bell responded as she received a glass from Artemis.
He smiled as a response.
"If I may ask," she began after she polished off a sweet. "What is the matter with your forehead?"
Artemis removed his hand and smiled. "It is peculiar. I have been receiving strong headaches for a while now."
"You poor thing," she cooed.
Artemis raised a single brow.
"I mean that is unfortunate," she corrected quickly. "The stress must be getting to you."
Artemis laughed lightly. "Hardly, I live for schemes of this magnitude. My sleep hasn't been proper. I will leave the headache up to that."
Bell glanced around the decadent kitchen with large expensive pots and pans hanging from the ceiling.
"Not sleeping well in a place of this expense," she beamed. "I find that hard to believe."
Artemis nodded slightly. "It is truly a surprise but the headache is no lie. It is almost as if a drill had been forced through my skull and then to my brain. Crude example but it is the truth."
"Headache?" she questioned softly. "Have you noticed anything else?"
Artemis thought for a second before shaking his head. "No nothing I find out of the ordinary. Why are you suddenly a nurse?"
She giggled. "No, I was just curious."
Bell went back to her sandwich as did Artemis. She didn't know where her line of questioning had stemmed from but she was thoroughly curious now. Maybe somewhere she had a soft spot for the mud boy. For some odd reason Bell didn't truly believe Artemis was all as he seemed. She threw her thought aside. Artemis Fowl was a mastermind through and through she couldn't believe she would dare think otherwise but yet….there was something happening she couldn't understand.
"Well, Opal should be ready to discuss now," Artemis arose softly.
"Yes, she is."
Both individuals turned to the archway. There standing in a lovely sapphire gown was Opal. Upon her head was the hand crafted crown she received as a gift.
"Now, Artemis," Opal commented. "I'll be with you in a moment, I would like to discuss with Bell."
"Of course," he replied.
Artemis grabbed an additional sweet before giving both females a smile. When both heard his footsteps heading up the stairs they began to discuss.
"Before we talk about the plan," she began. "What do you think you saw?"
Bell was taken aback by the question. "Opal?"
"The question is important," she narrowed her eyes.
"I saw you with contact lenses."
Opal threw back her head and let out an uncharacteristic roar of a laugh.
"Just contact lenses? Really, Bell, you and I both know you are smart. You have already figured it out and I am impressed but this revelation is not for human ears. Understand me? It would be unfortunate if human ears heard."
She nodded in understanding before speaking again. "What you are doing is dangerous."
"Dangerous? What I am doing? Yes, I'm aware," she smiled evilly. "But don't you worry your romantic self about it. I always have it all figured out. There will be no unfortunate outcomes because unfortunate outcomes will definitely interfere with my plan and Artemis is an important part."
She nodded in understanding. Opal grabbed a sweet of her own and then headed toward the arch.
"He has headaches," Bell stated further. "He told me and -."
Opal smirked. "Like I said before Bell, sometimes being persuasive isn't enough. Now I no longer have anything further to discuss with you. We will talk further about the plan tomorrow. Get back to work."
The blond fairy watched Opal climb the stairs. For a few minutes Bell questioned her own loyalty. The mud men and women have always been such a bother to the people. Strangely today, Bell almost felt she could cast their differences aside. After her brief discussion with Opal she knew exactly who she was aligning with and it was a bit frightening. She arose and quickly rearranged her thoughts. Thinking such thoughts was terribly close to treason and Bell wouldn't be caught in such a situation. She headed out into the grand foyer. She took one look up the stairs before shaking her head and exiting the building. She needed air.
