"The chilly days continue, even though it's already spring
On a morning when I woke up earlier than the alarm clock
You're standing there
Making breakfast for three"

It's dark. Where am I?

It's no use; I can't remember. And if I can't remember, it mustn't be that important.

?

Nanami looked down, her eyebrows knit in confusion. All around her was darkness; she wasn't sure if she was even standing or laying down. For all she knew, she could be floating.

All around her was darkness, except for one small spot. A warm, comforting glow emanated from her lower belly. She cocked her head slightly to the right as she stared down at it.

Why am I glowing?

Cautiously, her hands traveled to her stomach, resting gently on her hips.

Hmm, maybe Tomoe knows. Her eyes widened.

Tomoe! She looked around frantically.

Tomoe, where are you?!

It was to no avail, her voice wouldn't even squeak. Panic started to well up inside her, and she curled up into a ball, resting her head on her knees. Deep mahogany curls swirled by her feet, and dark red and golden eyes watered as she bit her lip to muffle a quiet sob.

Tomoe…

She didn't know how much time had passed as she stayed in a fetal position, warm tears cascading down her cheeks. She glanced down at her still lightly-glittering tummy.

That's right… I'm pregnant. I'm going to have Tomoe's baby…

A baby.

It all seemed so foreign to her. She was only seventeen, a senior in high school, sure, but only seventeen. She didn't have any real experience in being an adult, and now she was going to have a baby? In all honesty, she felt scared beyond belief. She knew nothing about raising a child, and now she was going to have one…

Despite her fear, she couldn't help but feel as sense of joy and excitement.

A baby.

She was going to have a baby.

With Tomoe.

Their baby.

The thought made her feel giddy inside, all excited and overjoyed. She imagined how the child would look. Maybe it would have her hair, the beautiful red it had now become. She had always liked her old chocolate locks, but after becoming a true kami, casting her mortality aside, (assuming she didn't get fatally wounded or something), some of her features had changed, but only slightly, making her seem even more breathtaking than she had been before, not that she had ever thought she looked breathtaking, but Tomoe had apparently thought she did.

Her hair had become a deep red that lit up almost like fire when hit with sunlight. Her eyes, no longer an almond brown with amber highlights, had turned a dazzling shade of red too, the amber now becoming more prominent, making her eyes almost look two-toned if it weren't for the fact that the color seemed to melt and blend into each other. Her skin, that had fortunately had nearly always been clear, with the exception of the occasional pimple on her forehead, practically began to radiate with life and longevity. Her body had matured a little bit more too, her bust slightly increasing and her hips slightly becoming more feminine, less that of a young girl, but that all had mostly been natural. She had slept for a week when the transformation had occurred, Okuninushi having used his powers, along with some golden colored liquid, to transform her from a ningen to a kami, Tomoe by her side the entire time.

Ah… Tomoe…

We're having a child together…

And so, she began to wonder what the product of their affection would look like. Maybe it would have a mixture of their hair colors, or Tomoe's pristine silver locks.

Oh, but I do hope it has Tomoe's ears. The thought made her giggle in joy. As if responding to her laughter, the light emanating from her tummy seemed to glow brighter. She gasped.

Is this…?

Could it be?

Was the light what she was thinking?

The light grew even brighter, and Nanami's eyes sparkled.

You… you're my… Tomoe and I… She swallowed.

You're our child, aren't you?

The light glowed brighter still, and she smiled. With a face of contentment, Nanami held her stomach, and eventually fell asleep.

"That's…" Mizuki trailed off, his eyes wide in disbelief.

"It is as you said." Mikage replied, her eyes looking to the side, a gentle, yet sad expression donning his face.

"For us kami's, and any miko or houshi, our power is known as reiki. In other words, us gods, and those who serve us, such as monks and priestesses, use spiritual power. It is a pure power. Then, there are yokai. Their power is known as youki. As you are aware, kami and yokai are opposites." Mikage sighed and stood up, walking toward an open shoji screen overlooking the backyard of the shrine. He sighed, and Mizuki stared at him with a look knowing what was to come next.

"As kami and yokai are opposite, reiki and youki are too. Put the two together, and they will attack one another, the reiki trying to purify the youki, and the youki trying to dominate the reiki." Mikage turned and faced Mizuki.

"If a yokai and a kami were to come together and have a child, which is absurd, considering how we… don't get along, you could say, the auras would naturally try mix. And since the auras would try to mix, they'd naturally be fighting each other due to their opposing natures. The inner turmoil would…" He stopped and looked down, his bangs covering his eyes.

"The child would die, assuming the mother got past her first trimester."

Mizuki jumped up.

"That's—!" He stopped, and his hands made a tight fist, a faint line of red dripping out of his shaking fist. Mizuki took a shaky breath.

"Why didn't you tell Nanami?" His voice was a soft whisper.

Mikage sighed and looked up at the snake, taking in his bowed head and shaking shoulders.

"That's…"

"Why didn't you tell Nanami?!" Mizuki yelled, his voice shaking. Mikage looked to the side where the hallway was, noticing Onikiri and Kotetsu sitting by the doors, listening to their conversation.

"…" Mikage said nothing, and looked back towards Mizuki.

Almost tentatively, he opened his mouth to speak.

"I never said it was impossible to have a half kami, half yokai child."

And with that, Mizuki's head shot up.

"You mean..?!"

Mikage's eyes sparkled in determination.

A soft sigh escaped soft lips. Sleepily, Nanami turned over. After a moment, her eyes fluttered open, smiling as she saw Tomoe staring back at her.

"Are you alright?" He asked after a few moments.

"Mm… yeah." Nanami stretched and yawned, small tears forming in the corner of her eyes. She snuggled into Tomoe's side, and smiled as she felt Tomoe's arm wrap around her waist in return.

"Tomoe?"

"Mm..?"

"…" She raised her head and look Tomoe in the eyes.

"I love you."

He smiled in return.

"I love you too." Bringing a clawed hand to her face, Tomoe pressed his lips gently against hers, earning a soft moan from Nanami. After a few seconds, the two parted.

"Tomoe, about... me being pregnant..."

Tomoe's eyes lit up and his ears perked.

"I hope our child grows strong and healthy."

His eyes widened as he looked down at his little mate. A bright smile lit up her features, her eyes sparkling. Slowly, his face relaxed into a large smile.

"Me too…"

A/N: That is it! I told you guys not to kill me! I said I'd explain! Anyways, I feel the fact that since kami and yokai are opposite beings, even their powers being different, that they'd conflict with each other. So I hope I conveyed that well enough… Anyways, I have to cook dinner now, so R&R! :D
