Chapter 7
Normal POV
When Naru woke up and immediately rushed into the base, Ayako and Bou-san were still trapped in a comforting hug. To this, the scientist raised his brow at, but didn't question, for he had an assistant to find. He rushed to the monitors and tried to rewind them back to the time he got possessed, but a hand on his shoulder stopped him.
"It's no use. All the tapes were erased completely. Most likely from the amount of spiritual energy in the air at the time" (I don't know if spiritual energy can really do that, but just roll with me XD)
Naru looked up to see Lin hovering over him. It was no surprise really, but Naru was half expecting the Chinese man to tell him to go back to resting. Naru nodded, but with a depressed air around him. How was he supposed to find Mai now?
"Well, how can it do that?" Monk asked, finally letting go of Ayako.
"Think of it like a magnet when it gets too close to a computer." Was all Naru was going to say on the matter, so everyone let him be while he tried to get the cameras running again from this side.
Suddenly, the window burst open and in hopped Yasu with a rolled up piece of paper. Half the members in the room raised their eyebrow at the college student, silently asking why he didn't just use the door. Yasu just shook off those looks and walked straight to Naru who was still sitting in front of the monitors.
"I think you should have a look at this." He spoke, but with no joking or mischief in his voice, which everyone occupying the room though was a little weird to say the least.
Masako's POV
By the time Midnight and I got to base that day, Naru was awake and hovering over a long piece of paper along with Lin and Monk. Ayako was standing off to the side, but still listening to their conversation. I walked a little closer to the group just in time to here Naru say,
"I know where they are!"
Nobody had ever heard him have so much hope in his voice before, so it looked like the others were reveling in this moment which I shook my head at. By the looks of the paper they were previously hovering over, which I know found out was a blueprint; it looked like we had some digging to do.
Mai's POV
"John!" I cried in joy and a little bit of relief. I may have spoken too loud for my head, but I pushed the pain aside when the blond priest snapped his head in my direction.
A smile spread across his features as he jumped up from his sitting position and walked as close to me as the cell bars would allow.
"Mai! Thank God you're awake." He exclaimed. It was then that I noticed that he was in his pajamas. Oh yah, that's right. He was taken in the middle of the night by the ghost when we were all sleeping.
"Do you know how long I was out?" I asked. It didn't look like this was the type of place you could keep track of time in, but it was worth a shot. To my surprise, he nodded his head in a 'yes' sign and pointed to a dusty, but working, clock hanging on the wall in his cell.
"You've been here and out since five hours ago." John spoke with a worried expression.
"Are you alright by the way?" he asked next.
"Never mind me. How are you? You've been in here way longer than me. How long has it been since you've eaten? You must be starving!" I exclaimed with equal worry as him.
John sweat dropped and grabbed his stomach that was now growling. "Actually, I was trying to forget about food."
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you hungry."
The priest just shook his head at me with a smile.
"It's ok. You didn't know. Anyways, I saw Shibuya-san carry you in here." He stated with a confused expression.
I sweat dropped and scratched the back of my head nervously. "Oh, that. Hee hee. Actually, Naru got possessed by the ghost Ketsuki."
John looked surprised for a moment, but then confusion crossed his features.
"You actually figured out who the ghost was this fast?"
I was about to nod, but stopped myself. Come to think of it, I don't really know when Naru got possessed, so I don't know if it was really Naru who "figured it out" or the ghost. If it was the ghost, why would he tell us who he is? Either he's not the brightest bulb on the chandelier, or he was lying. Besides that, I could have sworn that those eyes belonged to Shini, but I couldn't really tell because his and Ketsuki's eyes are so alike. I told my suspicions to John, and he agreed with me that it could be either brother.
Just then, we heard an eerie growl coming from the inside of the wall opposite of our cells. I inched closer to John as much as I could, but yet again, the bars got in the way. John reached his hand through the bars and stretched his arm out in front of me protectively. A black entity formed in front of us and just kind of floated there. Its glowing red eyes would switch from me to John, and then back again. It was kind of creepy to say the least. As if satisfied of our current imprisoned state, the black mass floated back the way it came and disappeared behind the wall. I released a breath that I hadn't realized I'd been holding and relaxed a little. John then sat down and hung his head in what looked like shame.
"What's wrong John? It's gone, so there's nothing to worry about for the time being…right?"
John looked up at me with those adorable blue eyes that made me want to squeeze him with a Bou-like hug until his face turned purple and his eyes popped out of his head. I couldn't help it, he is just so cute. Kind of like a little brother cute, except he's older. He smiled at me and I smiled back.
"Even with my prayers, I don't know if I can hold that thing off if it comes back again. I don't have any holy water or rosary beads..."
"It's ok John. The others are most likely looking for us as we speak. Instead of sitting around all day, how 'bout we try to find a way out ourselves?" I suggested with a wide smile plastered on my face.
John smiled at my idea and nodded his head with a new determined sense of air.
"Oh, and John."
"Yah?"
I held a large candy bar that I forgot I had in my pocket through the cells and allowed him to take it.
"Happy early Christmas!"
A/N: Don't ask why Mai has a big candy bar in her pocket XD I just felt really bad for making John starve, but I mean come on. It's a fucking jail cell. Where would he get food XD I had to keep it somewhat realistic :D But anyways, I hope you guys liked it. I'm hoping to finish this case in the next chapter or two 'cause I've already had an idea for the second case since chapter 2…. Have a nice day :D
