Double life - 7

.

"All mudbloods will die," Severus whispered while standing in front of a stonewall that suddenly began to tremble. A staircase going down appeared between the numbers 43 and 47 of the street, and Severus went down and knocked the large wooden door of the magical basement.

A house-elf with the mark of a bite on his ear opened the door and greeted Severus very politely.

"Tell your master that Severus Snape is here," he said and the elf disappeared suddenly, leaving the potions master alone in the hall.

Severus looked around. He'd never been at the Lestrange's house before since he usually met them at the Malfoy's Manor. This was obviously not as big, and it was underground, but it was very well decorated with an elegant gothic style.

He was admiring the details on a near painting when the elf re-appeared suddenly next to him.

"Mr. Snape may follow Cranky to the living room, please," the small creature said, and Severus walked two steps behind him to a double wooden door that the elf magically opened for him before popping away.

"Severus, what a nice surprise, my friend," Rodolphus Lestrange greeted from an armchair near the lighted fire.

"Indeed," Bellatrix's dark voice came from the corner and Severus turned to find her walking towards him with two filled glasses on her hands, "very nice." She offered him one of the drinks and Severus took it without hesitating.

"Hello Bella," he said, "Rod," he greeted the man too, as his wife served him the other glass, "I'm sorry for coming unannounced," he apologized.

"Don't worry," Bellatrix sat on the arm of her husband's seat, with her legs hanging on the air and her arm around Rodolphus shoulders, "you will always be welcomed, Severus," she said, "even if you are a coward traitor."

"Bella, he's not a traitor, he's with Dumbledore to spy on his stupid Order of aurors," the Lestrange brother pointed out.

"Yeah, sure," she muttered, "just like the pussy your brother wants to marry."

Severus almost choked on his drink. Did she say "marry"? He couldn't believe his ears, maybe Bellatrix wasn't talking about Minerva, there had to be someone else in the picture.

"Don't tell me Rabastan has been picked up," Severus sat down on the couch and tried to act normal.

"Oh, yes," Rodolphus explained, having another sip of scotch, "he found this old friend of his from his school years and they've been going out for weeks now."

"Months, dear," Bella corrected him.

"And yesterday he popped the big question."

"Did he?" Severus tried not to show too much interest.

"They can only see each other during the weekends because she's a professor in Hogwart, like you!" he suddenly seemed to realize, "You must know her, Severus."

"I guess," he said, "what's her name?"

"Minerva," Bellatrix replied, "Minerva McGonagall," she said, "the bitch claims she fought in our side during the war but…"

"You don't trust her?" Severus asked, now wondering more than ever where Minerva could be.

"Not really," she said, "she's a half-blood."

"I am too," Severus pointed out, "and I am also working in Hogwarts."

"Who says I do trust you?" the woman stared at him and Severus found it hard to keep the stare.

"Don't mind my wife, Sev," Rodolphus broke the tension, "she trusts no one." They both laughed. "What about you? What do you know about her?"

"Not much," Severus replied, "she doesn't speak much and when she does, she is insufferable."

"You see," Bellatrix said to her husband, "Severus thinks like me. I can't stand the woman either. Tell you what," she suddenly jumped out of the armchair and sat next to Severus, "Why don't you stay for dinner? Rabastan took his pussy out to celebrate the engagement but they'll be back by then and we'll have more fun if you stay."

"Sweetheart, you're making the poor man crazy. First you accuse him to be a traitor, now you invite him for dinner," Rodolphus joked.

"He knows I'm just playing with him," Bellatrix said, her hands all over Severus as her husband seemed not to care, "so what you say? Will you make me some company while this two fools drool for the princess pussy?"

"I had to decline your sister's offer for dinner, I don't think it'll be appropriate to accept yours," he tried to hide his desire to stay.

"Come on, my brother will like to see you, and this way you can congratulate the happy couple," Rodolphus insisted.

"Alright, I guess I could stay just for dinner," he said, wondering how he would help Minerva out of this mess.

After a tour around the house and a couple games of chess, they finally heard some voices coming from the hall and Severus prepared himself to see Minerva. When the living room's double door opened, though, it only came in the older of the Lestrange's brothers.

"Severus, old friend, what are you doing here?" he exclaimed after recognizing the black-haired man playing chess with his brother.

"Congratulating you on your wedding," Severus said, standing up to hug the tall man.

"We got engaged just yesterday, you're going to love her," Rabastan said very excited as the doors opened again to let Minerva come in.

She was wearing a long black tight dress that he quickly recognized to be the one Rabastan bought her in Borgin & Burkes the week before. It had a very low neckline and the skirt of the dress had an opening that showed more than it was supposed to.

She was wearing high heels, her shiny black hair was, again, falling down her shoulders and freely moving at every step she made, and she hadn't noticed Severus' presence.

"Rabastan, sweetheart, have you seen the blue bag with my new shoes," she was saying as she entered the room, "it seems like if it had disapp-" she suddenly stood right in front their visitor, Rabastan in between them, "Severus," she muttered.

"How do you do, Minerva" Severus took her hand politely and kissed the back of it as she remained silent and unable to react.

"You know each other?" Rabastan cut the uncomfortable tension.

"Of course they do, bro," Rodolphus came to the rescue without even knowing, "they work together in Hogwarts."

"Do you? You never talked me about Severus, pet," he passed an arm around Minerva's waist and kissed her cheek.

"I just found out that professor McGonagall is one of us," Severus spoke, "I guess it happened the same to her."

"Is that right, Mina?" the Lestrange brother wondered.

"Yes," she said, finally regaining control of her body, "it had never crossed my mind that professor Snape had fought in the Dark side as well."

"Well, I must say I'm very happy to know you're not alone there anymore," Rabastan said, letting go of Minerva, "Severus you must promise you'll take care of my woman," he approached the potions master and walked with him to the couch, "I fear that someday that old wizard of Dumbledore will find out her true identity and the… who knows."

"I know how to take care of myself," Minerva spoke loudly, sitting down on the armchair opposite to the three men on the large sofa.

"Now that I know she's my best friend's fiancee," Severus completely ignored Minerva, "I won't take my eyes away from her, I swear."
