By the second week of school, Alicia had pretty much gotten used to the idea of magic school. Sure, she still had tests and pop quizzes, but they were on the aftereffects of breathing in the powdered root of asphodel, not on the Declaration of Independence. For the first time, Alicia actually enjoyed school. She was having such a great time, she almost completely forgot about Claire and Cam. Well, almost. "Leesh?" Alicia was jerked out of her thoughts. "Leesh! We need to hurry or we'll miss our first flying lesson!" Massie grabbed her by the arm and pulled her down the hall.
When Alicia and Massie finally arrived at the courtyard outside the Gryffendor side of the castle, they grabbed brooms from a pile and ran to stand next to Kristen, Dylan and Draco. Madame Hooch's hawkish eyes scanned the two lines of Slytherins and Gryffendors. "Stick your right hand over the broom" she called, "And yell 'UP'" Alicia did as told, and a confused look came to her face, because her broom didn't go "UP", her broom rolled over on the ground. She looked around embarrassed, but then she realized that she wasn't the only one. That Hermione girl that Kristen hated had a broom that did the same thing as Alicia's. That Gryffendor loser's broom (Was his name Neville? Alicia din't know and didn't care) didn't even move, Alicia smiled. At lest hers did SOMETHING. The only brooms that were up, in fact, were Massie's, Kristen's, Derrington's, and Harry Potter's. Alicia fumed that Mr. Perfect (Harry ) did not even have to work at that. Everything truly was handed to him on a silver platter. After about ten more tries, Alicia was very proud when her broom finally flew up into her hand. After that, they were taught how to hold the brooms properly and how to mount. After everyone got the hang of it, Madame Hooch yelled, "When I blow my whistle, kick off from the ground hard. Rise a few feet, and point your broomstick handles down to land." Alicia was relieved when she kicked off from the ground and was able to bring herself down with little effort. That Neville kid wasn't so lucky. He did not know how to come down, and he rose about 20 feet in the air and came down hard. There was a nasty crack and he let out a wail. Madame Hooch took him to the infirmary for a broken wrist.
As soon as they left, Draco picked up Neville's Remembrall. (some magical thingamigiggy to help him remember what he had lost, she heard him talking about it at breakfast) Draco burst out laughing, and all of the Slytherins joined him. Even Alicia let out a giggle, it WAS pretty funny. "Did you see his face?!" Draco said to Massie and his friend Goyle in between laughs. He tossed the Remembrall into the air. "Give it back Malfoy" That was Harry Potter. Alicia rolled her eyes; she hoped Draco wouldn't let the little celebrity have his way. "Come and get it Potter!" Draco hopped on his broom and soared into the air. Harry went up after him with remarkable confidence for someone who has never been on a broom before. they chased each other around of a little bit and finally Draco threw the Remembrall into the air and Potter caught it with impressive speed. Massie and Alicia booed when he finally came to the ground. Professor McGonagall ran out of the building and grabbed harry by the collar. "What were you doing? You could have died!" she yelled in his ear and dragged him inside while he made protest that it wasn't his fault. Alicia smirked as he was led into the school. "Guess Potter won't be coming back to school" Kristen whispered in Alicia's ear with a laugh. Alicia really hoped that was true.
