It has sketches and drawings of Raine as well as some Cubix fan art. Just Google funstorytime127, click on my gallery, and click the folder that says, "OC's. I also have more fan art and drawings in my gallery, so happy browsing!
Steven: I am pleased to see that you find this story interesting. Thank you for pointing out the spelling errors, it is much appreciated, and they will be corrected. ( sometimes misspells my words or cut's them out, I don't know why?) If you are interested then try reading some of my other stories on my page.
Train123: Aww! Thanks! It makes me happy that you like it.
Unikitty09: First, thanks! Second, I'm confused by the question. Are you talking about Cubix or Raine? And they keep saying what, exactly?
Most robots were nice and kind. Some robots were shy and embarrassed. A few were awkward and clumsy. But never before has Abby met a robot like Raine.
For one thing she didn't even know what kind of robot Raine was. She didn't have a serial number on her like all the other robots so she couldn't use her identification number to find out her model. Was she a prototype of some sort? If she was a prototype, she didn't look like anything from the official Robix Corp magazine. The way Raine's body was designed, she looked more human than the robots that Abby had studied in the robot manual books. Sometimes Abby mistook her for a real little girl-that is how human this robot looked.
Obviously, Abby didn't know a lot about Raine, but she did know a few things:
1.) Raine liked to be alone.
2.) She disliked humans and robots. Especially Cubix, which was odd considering how he was the friendliest robot of all.
3.) Even though she disliked humans, she felt "comfortable" around Hela. That didn't mean that they were friends- it just meant that Raine was willing to be around her for more than 5 minutes.
So when Hela asked Abby if she could watch Raine while she worked, Abby hesitated. "It's not that I don't mind watching her," Abby explained to Hela, "I just don't know how she'll be around Don Don. In case you haven't noticed, she doesn't like to be around him or anybody for that matter."
"Raine can be a little…shy…around others." Hela said. "But I'm sure that once she gets to know everyone, she'll feel start to feel more comfortable around them."
Abby was doubtful that Raine would even want to take the time to get to know anyone, but she did trust Hela. Hela was like a big sister to Abby-wise, kind, and she knew everything about robots. If Hela said that Raine could make friends, then Abby would take her word for it. Who knows? Maybe Raine would have a nice time playing with her robot. Maybe she would start to be nicer to her and the other Bodies.
Raine didn't give Abby that hard of a time when she told her that she would be coming over her house. She seemed interested in seeing what the inside of Abby house looked like inside. Don Don kept telling Raine about how great Abby's house was.
"And Abby has the coolest room!" Don Don said eagerly, "It's big and it has this huge window that you can fly in and out of. Or crawl out of, since your part spider."
Raine's only response was, "Whatever." She didn't seem to care.
As they approached Abby's house Raine noticed something. "That's Conner's house."
Abby nodded. "Yeah, we're neighbors."
Abby opened the door of her house only to be greeted by her mother. Her red hair was pulled back into a long ponytail. Her pink tee-shirt and jeans were covered in dust. "Hi Abby, just in time." Her mother looked over at Raine. "Who is this?"
"This is Raine, Hela's robot."
"Hela?"
"She owns the Botties Robot Repair Pit down the block, remember?"
"Right. It's that place you're so fond of."
"Yep. Anyway, she asked me to watch Raine while she works. I hope that's ok?"
Her mother smiled. "It's alright. Just remember to ask me ahead of time, ok? Anyway, I need you to help me clean up the house, so take Don Don and Raine up to your room and then come and help me."
"Ok." Abby led the two robots up to her room. "Now stay in here and play nice. And don't touch my stuff, ok?" Abby then left the room, leaving the two robots all by themselves. The room itself was small, containing a bed, a large mirror, a walk-in closet, and a small desk.
A half hour had passed by. During that time, Don Don played with Abby's jewelry while Raine sat on the ledge of Abby's window. Don Don had asked Raine earlier what she wanted to do, but Raine said nothing. Don Don played by himself while Raine watched. He turned around and asked her, "How do I look? Very professional, yes?" He wore purple heart-shaped sunglasses and had five different necklaces hanging around his head. A little orange bow was on his right antenna.
Raine got up off of the ledge, crossed her arms, and scoffed, "What the heck are you supposed to be?"
Don Don flew over to the mirror and stuck some poses. "The names Don. Don Don. Secret agent and master of disguise."
"Your 'disguise' looks like trash." Raine said.
The door of the room opened and Abby walked in. "Don Don?"
Startled, Don Don quickly turned around. "Abby! You're blowing my cover!"
"Whaa!" Abby looked upset. "And you're covered in my stuff!" She sniffed the air and waved her hand in front of her nose. "PU! Guess you took a perfume bath."
"Sorry Abby," Don Don said, "but when a top agent goes undercover, he's got to look and smell the part."
"If you're trying to smell like garbage." Raine said.
Abby lightly chuckled, "I see." She removed her jewelry from Don Don. Everything, except for the bow. "Sometimes, less is more."
"Roger." Don Don said. "Mission: Invisible."
"How about just the bow. It will look great."
"Definitely."
Raine rolled her eyes.
"But it's my favorite one," Abby said, "So don't lose it."
"I won't." Don Don promised.
"Abby!" A voice said from outside the window. Everyone went over and peered outside. Conner was standing on Cubix, who was in hovercraft mode.
"What's up Conner?" Abby asked.
He called up to her, "Let's go! Common! Another robot is gone! In the park! A Mixmutt-so hurry up!"
"A pet?" Abby said worriedly. Don Don shivered. Raine raised an eyebrow. "What was that about?"
"Robots have been reported missing all over town." Abby said. "And we're going to find out why." Abby went into her closet and pulled out a helmet. She put it on and opened the door. "Common, we better get going."
"Maybe we should just stay inside instead." Don Don said nervously.
"What?" Raine taunted Don Don. "Are you scared Dumb Don? Afraid you'll go missing too?"
"Ye-yes!"
"Too bad. Looking for missing robots is way better than staying in Abby's dumb room."
"What's wrong with my room?" Abby demanded.
Raine smirked and didn't answer her.
The three of them hopped on Abby's hover scooter and followed Conner to the park. The other Bodies members were already there, searching the park. Everyone fanned out around the area, scouring the area, leaving no stone unturned. They asked the people in the park if they had seen any of the missing robots. Each person they asked said no.
After about an hour of searching, the group gathered around to share their findings.
"Find anything?" Conner asked the group.
"Not a bit." Chip said.
Abby looked around. "Is this where it disappeared?"
Mong nodded yes. "And we searched this whole area."
Abby placed her elbow on her hand in a thinking manner. "So that makes three robots this week."
"Right." Chip confirmed. "First a Babyfix was snatched right out of a backyard. Then, a Mutzerelix disappeared while delivering a pizza. They found the pizza, piping hot, but the robot was nowhere to be found."
Raine rolled her eyes and said sarcastically, "Ooo, scary."
Mong pointed at the sky and suddenly exclaimed, "It's got to be a robot eating alien from outer space! What kind of monster wouldn't eat the pizza?"
"A better question is," Raine said, "what kind of idiot would believe your story?" Noticing that Don Don was shaking nervously, she grinned mischievously. "Yeah…maybe the robot eating alien monster left to go take a nap."
Don Don shivered.
"Maybe he'll come back."
Don Don shook some more.
"Maybe he'll be in the mood for a small robot?" Raine said a little louder.
A small whimper escaped from Don Don.
"Maybe he'll want a small, yellow, flying robot!" Raine stood on her spider legs and thrust forward, making a scary threatening pose, and shrieked, "Like YOU!"
Don Don screamed and flew behind Abby. The poor little bot was quivering like a leaf in a storm.
"Raine," Conner scolded, "That's enough. You're scaring Don Don."
"That's the idea, dummy." She said.
"Mong, that's crazy." Conner said to Mong.
"No it's not! I'm telling you this monster won't stop till there's not a single bot in Bubble Town!"
"Mong, give it up." Abby said, crossing her arms. "I should have known your theory would involve food."
"Well what's wrong with that?!"
"Hold on," Conner said, "Who would want all of those robots?"
Everyone pondered the question for a bit.
Conner then said, "I have an idea…common, we need to head back to the Botties Pit and talk to Hela."
Raine hoped that his "idea" was to go back home and forget about all of this because it was stupid. If a robot goes missing, then just replace it? What was so hard about that? Why bother to find them? Raine just didn't understand human logic.
"Dr. K?"
"Yeah," Conner asked, "What's his story?"
"He's not very attractive," Abby commented, "for one thing."
Raine stood near Cubix and listened intently. At the park, Conner suspected that Dr. K was the one who was kidnapping the robots, since this seemed like something he would do; so they headed back to the Pit to ask Hela about him. They had spent so much time trying to stop his evil schemes that the group had never bothered to ask who he was. If Raine was ever going to catch and make the Dr. give her her memories, she needed to know everything she could about him. Raine stared at the image of a young-ish Dr. K with black hair and less wrinkles. An image of him with black hair flashed in her mind. The image showed him staring straight at her with an evil grin on his face. She wondered what he was smiling about.
Hela her head towards the group. "He was a colleague of my father's at RobixCorp."
"Your dad?" Conner asked. "Who's that?"
"Only Professor Nemo." Chip answered.
Raine gasped faintly. That name…as soon as the words escaped Chip's lips she heard a voice say that name in her head. A faint, raspy, male voice. Professor Nemo…
"Woah!" Conner got excited. "You mean the father of modern robotics is the father of Hela!?"
"Yeah," Mong said, "He made RobixCorp what it is today!" As Mong kept talking, Hela pulled up a file on the monitor. It showed different scientists working in the lab. Some were working on robots and others were taking notes.
"Wow!" Conner breathed out. "I had no idea."
"Yeah," Chip said, "Hela got to know everyone at RobixCorp."
"Dr. K was weird, even then. I never understood why he left, though." Hela said. She pulled up another picture. It was a group of six scientists. Raine recognized Raska's face in the picture, but the man she was standing next to…
Images flew rapidly inside Raine's processor. She grasped her head in pain as different voices rang in her ears. The voices were blurred together so she couldn't understand what anyone was saying.
"I wonder," Conner began, "do you think there was Solex there?"
"Yes," Hela said softly, "It was…Solex that killed my father."
Everyone, minus Raine, gasped, "It did!?"
"That's right."
Solex. The weird blue stuff Raine had stored away in a built-in compartment inside her back. She saw brief images of it flashing in front of her. It grew brighter and brighter, expanding and shrinking, moving around like liquid jelly.
"How?"
"I guess…I'll never really know for sure…" Hela her head away, her face grim from the painful memory.
"What a fire!" Chip told Connor. "The explosion was front page news-!" Abby put her hand on his shoulder and shook her head no, signaling him to stop talking. Chip got the message. "Oh, yeah. Sorry Hela. I shouldn't have said anything."
Hela waved a dismissive hand. "No. It's fine. I just worry what could do in the wrong hands."
The images in Raine's mind flew faster and faster. She saw the Solex expanding and shrinking, moving around with violent force and intensity. Multiple voices rung out. Some were cries of panic-others were exclaiming orders. But amidst the chaos, two very different and very distinct voices were heard.
"Don't do it! It will kill us all!"
The voice was a male's voice-strong and caring; almost fatherly.
"I will be more than what you made me!"
This voice was gravely, and rough-it sounded cruel and uncaring.
And then, a bright blue fiery explosion-
Raine screamed. Her processor exploded in a static sounding buzz. It was so fast and so sudden that she had to deploy her spider legs in order to balance herself and keep from falling. Everyone looked at her confused. Hela rushed over to her. She placed a hand on Raine's shoulder. "Raine, what's wrong?"
Raine didn't say anything. She moaned. Worried, everyone kept asking her what was wrong and if she was ok. Cubix knelt down and placed a hand on Raine's other shoulder. "Ok?" He asked, concerned.
The pain then started to subside. Raine shook off Hela and Cubix and backed away from everyone. Abby walked up to her. "Raine? What happened? What was that all about?"
She grumbled, "I…don't know…it's just a headache. I'm fine! Quit bugging me!" She walked over to Hela's office and opened the door. "I'm 'gonna take a nap."
Before she could close the door, a hand gently pushed it against it and Abby stepped inside. "Raine, are you sure you're ok?"
"No." Raine said. "Why do you care? Don't you have some stupid missing robots to find?"
"Raine, I don't know why you're acting so weird, I don't know why you don't like people, and I don't know why you don't like other robots. I don't know why you're so mean and call us names. I don't know why I try to be so nice to you when I know you'll probably never be nice to me or anyone else, ever." Abby sighed. "But I do know that helping robots is what we do here at the Bodies Pit, weather they're nice or not. And I want to help you, Raine. I want to be your friend, we all do, but you're being really difficult!"
"Is there a point to this conversation?"
"Yes. The others and I are going back to the park to do a stakeout. When you're headache goes away and you feel up to it, you can join us. Or you can stay here. It's up to you." Abby started to leave the room.
"Abby."
Abby stopped and turned around.
Raine flipped up her visor, looked at Abby, and then looked at the ground. "…your room isn't that stupid. It's fine for a human's room." She wouldn't admit it but being with Abby wasn't all that bad. Her room was a little tacky, but Raine kind of did have an ok time at Abby's house. Aside from Hela and Conner, Abby was one of the humans that Raine could tolerate.
Abby raised a confused eyebrow. She didn't know what that had to do with what she said, but she guessed that this was Raine's way of saying thanks. The orange haired girl smiled and left the room.
Raine sat down on Hela's office chair for a few minutes before the office door opened. "How's your head feeling?"
"It's fine."
Hela squatted down in front of her. Raine's visor was flipped up and the robot girl was tracing the outlines of her optics. "Are you sure? Raine, if something is wrong I need you to tell me. I'm here to help you."
Raine didn't answer her. The robot girl stared straight at the ground and continued to trace her eyes. After a moment of silence, Raine stopped and quickly glanced up at Hela. "I…I don't know…" She mumbled under her breath.
Hela picked Raine up. "Let's get you to the repair table." Hela carried her out of the office and to the table. She set her down and called Diagnostix over. He ran a full diagnostic scan and, once he was done, showed Hela the results. "Hmm… everything seems fine. Looks like you just had a small headache. Perhaps your processor was overworking itself without you knowing it. I'll run a few more scans to see if I can find something wrong with your -"
"I saw something."
Hela stopped and cocked her head. "What?"
Raine stopped herself. What was she doing? She couldn't tell Hela about the weird voices. Not yet. Something in the back of her processor was telling her to wait before she shared any information with Hela. "I… thought I saw something on the floor. It was nothing."
Hela just shrugged and continued to run her diagnostics.
When Hela was done, she told Raine the results of the diagnostics. Nothing. Apparently, she couldn't find anything wrong with Raine. She concluded that Raine's little "headache" was a result of some overworked wires in her processor. She told Raine to go back into her office and rest for a bit.
Raine sat alone in the office thinking about the weird voices. They sounded so familiar…so real… like she was there. Was her processor that overworked that it was playing tricks on her? Had she become so focused on unlocking her memories that she wore herself out?
No. That didn't seem to be right. Hela's diagnostic said that she was fine. Raine didn't feel like there was anything wrong with her. So why was she hearing things?
A warm feeling washed over Raine and kept getting warmer. Was the air conditioner broken or something? It took her a moment to realize that the warm feeling was coming from inside her; more specifically, her back compartment. It slid open and Raine reached behind her and pulled out-
She quickly flipped back her visor. Her eyes widened in wonderment. The jar with the glowing jelly that she took from the Delishix was glowing brighter than usual. The jelly sloshed around and pressed itself against the jar like it was trying to escape. Eyes glistening with curiosity, Raine peered closer at the jar…
With great force, the jelly burst out of the jar like a rocket! Raine immediately dropped the jar. She barely had time to defend herself. The jelly thrusted itself at Raine, splitting into two glowing blobs, and then, with lightning fast speed, wrapped itself around Raine's hands. Raine clenched her teeth in pain as the jelly-like substance burned into her metal skin. Desperately, she tried to pry the jelly off; but it was to no avail. It seeped into her hands and the burning slowly stopped.
Raine's hands shook and her eyes dilated as she tried to process what the heck just happened. What did just happen!? Raine didn't know what to do. She just stood there stunned and shaking. Even though she didn't have lungs, she took in a couple of raspy breaths.
Something didn't feel right. The inside of her felt
…weird…
…warm, even. She couldn't explain it. Her body quivered like guitar strings as she tried to calm her frantic mind and figure out what she should do.
Commotion from outside the room caught Raine's scattered attention. Panicking, she scooped up the broken glass from off the ground and, as quietly as she could, opened the office door. She activated her spider legs and crawled up the ceiling and stealthily made her way towards an open trash can. She removed whatever trash was inside and stuffed the broken glass all the way in the bottom, then covered it up with the trash.
Raine heard Abby say, "Please lie down, Don Don."
Raine headed over to Abby trying to act normal and pretend that nothing had happened. She looked up at Don Don, who was making weird static like noises, and asked, "What happened to him?"
"Don't know." Abby said to her. "I found him scared and his voice was broken."
"Corrupted voice system." Hela explained to Abby. "I can't get a new one until tomorrow."
"Hear that Don Don?" Abby said. "We'll fix you up tomorrow."
Don Don didn't seem so happy about it, which was one thing for Raine to be happy about. The static voice that he had was much better than that annoying one he had before. Raine hoped that his voice wouldn't be fixed for a long time.
The next morning, Raine went for a little walk to help clear her processor. She didn't sleep well last night. No, she didn't have any bad dreams or hear any more voices-and that was the problem. Nothing happened last night. The warmness she felt yesterday didn't come back. She played the voices over and over in her head, but every time she did, the voices just cut off suddenly, like someone had turned off the tape. No weird static bursts happened, either. Was that just the one time?
She wondered if she should have told Hela about what happened with the Solex yesterday? She dismissed the thought. Like yesterday, in the back of her mind, something was telling her that getting help from the human was a bad idea. She needed to wait to tell Hela what she knew.
Maybe she shouldn't wait; maybe she should tell her now. After all, she had stayed with the human for more than a month and Hela hasn't done much to help Raine recover her memories. None of the Botties have, even thought they said that they would help. Everyone was preoccupied with Dr. K and the mysterious Solex (both which were connected to Raine's memories). There was also the fact that Raine didn't trust the humans much, even though she had been staying with them for almost a month. So, something was telling her that they could be trusted, but at the same time, they can't.
All these thoughts about trust, humans, glowing jelly, and missing robots were exactly the reason for why Raine was walking towards Conner's house. Seeing Cubix and making fun of him for being a blockhead was the one thing that could help distract Raine from her thoughts.
As she rounded the corner she came across a peculiar site: Cubix, holding a weird lime green robot and a frantic Don Don hovering nearby. The robot had wings that looked like Don Don's but they were longer. He looked a lot like a garbage can. His teeth were small, crooked, and sharp and his snout was like a crocodiles'.
A puzzled frown formed on Raine's lips. "What are you doing?"
As if to answer her question, Cubix started walking down the street. Raine and Don Don followed him. The robot Cubix had pined was squirming, struggle to get free.
As they walked, Raine peppered him with questions. "Why are you carrying that dumb robot? Is he your enemy? Did he do something evil? Are you going to take him to the edge of town and make him suffer horribly while his pathetic screams of pain ring out from him, wailing in agony like a broken and worn-down siren!?"
Everyone froze and gawked at her.
"You've got a twisted and messed up mind kid." The green robot said.
"Thank you." Raine said.
They all eventually walked to the Botties Pit. Upon seeing them approach, the Botties and Hela came out to see what was going on. "Woah!" Chip said, "Cubix has got Disposix in a wing lock!"
"Why'd he bring him here?" Conner wondered.
The Desposix kept struggling to free himself from Cubix's grasp. "This Cubix guy is something. Silent but deadly." Hey, it's great to be back at the Botties Pit; as long as I'm here, why don't you check under the lid?" He opened his mouth wide. Don Don panicked.
"What's the mater kid? Something I said?"
Abby gently grabbed her robot and held it close.
Conner told Cubix, "Let him go. Disposix isn't doing anything wrong."
"Unfortunately." Raine muttered as she watched Cubix release him.
"Sorry Disposix," Abby apologized, "it won't happen again. Don Don is getting fixed today."
"Well, I guess the party is over. Heh heh, I was just starting to get used to it here." As he turned and flew away Raine heard him chuckle to himself. It was a chuckle that Raine was very familiar with- and evil chuckle.
Don Don squirmed in Abby's hands. She struggled to keep him still. "Don Don calm down." He continued to make weird fuzzy noises. "When is that voice system getting here?" All the sudden, Don Don burst away from Abby, grabbed Raine's hand by using his tail, and took off after the Disposix. It took Raine a few seconds to realized what the heck was happening: this panicked, static screaming robot was dragging her along to chase the Disposix.
Raine wretched herself free from Don Don's tail. "What do you think you are doing?!" Raine growled.
Don Don fluttered around her in distress. He grabbed her hand again only for her to yank it free from his grasp. He flew behind and started to push her forward, his static noises growing louder with each second.
"Stop it! I command you!"
He didn't stop.
There were two things that Raine could do: knock Don Don out and drag him back to the Pit or capture the Disposix and knock him and Don Don out and drag them both back to the Pit. Liking the second idea, she grabbed Don Don's wing and started to run. "Hurry up or he'll get away!" Raine didn't care why Don Don was chasing this guy- any reason to beat up an innocent robot was good enough for her.
They darted down the street and into an open alleyway. The suddenly stopped. Disposix was nowhere to be seen! It was like he had disappeared. The two started to look around.
A roar from above caused the two bots to quickly turn around and look up. Don Don emitted what sounded like a scream as the Desposix, mouth opened wide, swooped down and aimed straight for him. A robotic arm shot out and grabbed Don Don just as the teeth chomped down.
Raine's spider legs galloped down the alley path as she tried to some space between her and Disposix. Disposix kept chomping on air; every time he would come close to biting Don Don, Raine would yank him away like a balloon. The poor yellow bot screamed as he bobbed up and down. He screamed what sounded like a very staticky, "slow down!" but Raine ignored him.
"Do you want me to feed you to him?!" She shouted. This bot was nuts! What the heck did it want with a little annoying bot like Don Don? Did he tick it off or something?
She made her way out of the alley. Rounding the corner, the two bot's eyes widened. Raine just barely dove out of the way of an oncoming vehicle. She felt Don Don free himself from her grip and out of the corner of her optics she saw him squeeze himself through the car window. Desposix went to work on the car, taking a big chomp out of the roof. The driver of the car escaped and ran down the road in panic. Don Don tried to get out like he did, but Disposix blocked his path and chomped on window. At least, he tried to. His croc-like mouth made it difficult for him to grasp the window. His jagged teeth scratched against the surface of the window as Don Don quaked with fear.
Raine wrapped a spider leg around Disposix and threw him away from the car. Before he can retaliate, the sound of familiar running footsteps caught Raine's attention. She looked over and saw Cubix heading straight for them.
"The garbage can is mine!" She shouted. "Get Don Don! He's in the car."
Disposix leaned back and emitted a swarm of little bug bots. They flew straight towards Cubix but he was able to doge them. The Disposix lunged towards Raine, jaw open wide. Two spider legs held him back while Raine propped the mouth open. As she struggled to keep the mouth away from her, she noticed the bot's eyes were glowing blue. She knew that color blue: it was the same color as the Solex!
The other Botties soon arrived on the scene.
"Don Don!" Abby cried out, seeing her bot trapped in the car which now looked like a slightly crushed tin can. Raine's eyes quickly glanced over. Why were the humans here!? Were they trying to get themselves killed!?
Noticing she was slightly distracted, Disposix broke free from Raine's legs and jumped on top of the car. He spat out another swarm of bugs at Cubix, but with the spin of the orange circle shield on his wrist, he blocked the attack. Raine crossed her armed and watched him. Now that he was here, she didn't have to do anything-she'd let him do the work and once the Disposix was captured she would be the one to properly destroy it.
Cubix tried to get near the car again, but the Disposix released another swarm of bugs. Cubix jumped up in the air, somersaulted, and landed a foot away on the other side of the car. Disposix whipped around but then turned back around when he heard the pounding footsteps of Abby and Conner running towards the car. Disposix reared back and released a swarm of bugs like little rockets. Raine leaped forward with her spider legs, used two to grab the kids, and pulled them out of the bugs path.
"Thanks." They said as the hurried over to Don Don.
"You're not welcome." Raine said.
The kids struggled to open the car door, but it was stuck. "I can't open it!" Connor grunted. "It won't budge!" He and Abby kept pulling until they were shoved aside by two spider legs.
"Move over." Raine aimed her front left leg at the window and thrust it down. The glass shattered, and Don Don shot out of it and straight into Abby's arms. "Don Don!" Abby cried out in relief. "I'm so glad that you're ok!"
Conner nervously looked at the car and then at Raine. "Whoever owns this car sure is going to be pretty mad that you broke his window."
"It was already destroyed-I was doing the human a favor."
POW!
The clang of metal crashing against metal brought Abby, Conner, and Raine's attention away from the car and towards the noise. Behind her visor, Raine's eyebrows shot up. A large robot had rammed its fist against Cubix and sent the poor blockhead flying.
"Cubix!" Connor cried out in alarm as Cubix crashed to the ground.
The robot was large and orange, with a monster truck like wheel for feet. His upper body resembled that of a crab-oval with two big claws on each hand. The claws had four metal "fingers" that looked like they could crush a car like a water bottle.
Raine heard a voice order, "Kolossal! Pick up that porta-potty!"
"Dr. K!" Conner exclaimed.
"Dr. K" Raine muttered.
"Oh, how I love it when they say my name!" Dr. K said. He peered down at Conner and, seeing Raine next to him, his eyes widened. "You!?"
Conner followed the Dr. s gaze. "Wait…you know her? You know him!?"
Raine ignored him.
"As much as I would love to get caught up on things, I have more pressing matters to attend to." As Kolassal scooped up the Disposix, Dr. K ordered the orange robot, "I also enjoy crushing metal. Catastrophe! Make some music!"
Catastrophe swung its claw down on Cubix, pressing his body roughly into the ground. The symbol on his chest glowed and Cubix slowly got to his feet, pushing the claw off and away from him.
That glow…I know that glow… Another image flashed before Raine's eyes. It came so fast that her processor barely had time to process it, but it was the same orange glow from moments before. Two silhouettes were behind the glow and both were posed in a fearful stance.
Raine saw Cubix fly up into the sky and slammed his foot into Catastrophe's face. It fell; its lower half separating from the top part. While he dealt with the robots Raine went over to the humans. Her first thought was why the heck she wasn't pinning the Dr. against a wall, threatening to impale him if he didn't give her her memories and other information he knew about her? Her second thought was that if Hela found out the she had left the humans to defend themselves instead of getting them to safety, she would be grounded for the rest of her life (since when did she start caring about what Hela thought?).
As she made her way over to the kids she saw Chip on his scooter in the middle of the road in the path of the robot's top half. He stood frozen in fear before Raine extended her legs, thrust herself forward, wrapped her arms around Chip and launched themselves out of the way. They landed safely on the other side of the road where the kids were. Chip assured the other kids that he was ok while Raine folded her legs back inside of her.
Chip gave Raine a hug. "Thanks for saving me!"
She wriggled free from his grasp. "You can thank me by getting your stupid robots and going home. All of you!"
The Botties started to protest about how Cubix was their friend and that they needed to help him when a sudden gust of wind nearly knocked the Botties, their robots, and Raine to the ground. No one could see what was happening. The wind swept up dirt and small debris and scattered it everywhere. Raine and the others shielded themselves against the whirlwind assault, yet as they did Raine heard something. It was the scraping sound of metal being cut. She looked up and saw that a giant electrical sign's pole had been severed and the sign was now starting to fall. The sign was right on top of the Botties.
Raine looked over at the Botties, who all covered themselves and braced for impact. There was no time to think-no time to react!
Raine felt herself leaping forward, putting herself in front of the Botties and the falling sign. She lifted her arms up in a faint miraculous attempt to stop the sign from crushing the humans.
The warm feeling Raine felt earlier came back. It was strong. It surged through her hands.
Raine looked up, wondering if her vain attempt to protect the humans had worked. Did it? She didn't feel like she was crushed…she didn't hear the humans screams of terror either-
She looked up.
Her visor flipped back to reveal Raine's aghast expression.
The humans and their robots slowly looked up wondering why they weren't crushed. Each of their expressions changed from fearful to astonishment.
"Raine…" Conner breathed out slowly. "How are you doing that?!"
Raine stared straight upward. Her eyes dilating in fear and shock. Raine's voice shook as she spoke.
"I…I don't know…"
Dr. K smiled as he watched his robot Catastrophe top part split horizontally and start to spin around turning him into a mini tornado. He had just finished collecting the Solex from the Disposix and was now watching Cubix struggle to defend himself from Catastrophe's attack in the comfort of his hovering device. In fact, he was enjoying the battle so much that he didn't notice the floating sign in the air-
…wait a minute…
Dr. K did a double take. His eyes boggled at the sight a few feet in front of him. A large sign that towered above the brats who were so intent on stopping him. Instead of being crushed and solving the Dr. s problems for good, it hovered a few feet in the air and floated in place like a bubble. He saw the brats cowering in fear before looking up in astonishment. In between the brats and their impending doom was Raine; her visor was flipped back, her eyes were as wide as his, and her hands were held upward towards the sky.
She's doing it…she's remembering…oh no…
His thoughts were interrupted when he saw the sign being launched straight towards Catastrophe. With a cry of alarm, the Dr. could only watch as the sign crashed into his robot, sending it spiraling down the road until it came to a fiery halt. He scowled as he heard the brats cheer for victory.
Better get out of there fast! With a press of a button the bottom of his hovering device stuck out a device that emitted a little bomb. A stick gas bomb to be exact. The kids coughed and gaged as Dr. K rounded up his robots. He thought about going back and capturing Raine-with the brats and their robots distracted, now would be the perfect time to strike!
He decided against it. It was wiser for him to get out of there while he still could. He couldn't risk fighting Raine; not with his two strongest robots down.
If she remembers how to use her powers the question must be asked: what else does she remember or not remember?
Dr.K only hoped that she couldn't remember anything else-and that she never would be able to remember anything else.
