Zavallus' Palace
A demonic smirk crossed Zavallus' face as he heard the words of one Katashi, and chuckled.
"My lord, what is amusing?" Xias asked, curious.
"He's here." Zavallus replied cryptically, earning confused looks from his followers.
"Who, my liege?" Kaspia asked. "Link?"
"No. Katashi." Zavallus clarified.
"That traitorous bastard is here in Hyrule?" Shakarus snarled, tightening his grip on his war hammer. "When I find that scum-"
"You will bring him before me, alive." Zavallus cut him off, crossing his arms over his chest plate. "This applies to all of you. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes, Lord Zavallus." The elites said.
"Good." Zavallus said. "Now, onto business. It is time to inflict damage upon our enemies. Shakarus, Komodo, you two will lead the raid on Kakariko Village. Dark Link will accompany you."
"As you command." Shakarus, Komodo, and Dark said with bows.
"Ixea, Kaspia, Xias. The three of you will assault Zora's domain." Zavallus commanded.
"As you wish." The three in question said.
"Malaya, Roy. You two are to infiltrate Castle Town and assassinate the members of the Royal Council. Their deaths will plunge the kingdom into turmoil and thus weaken Hyrule's infrastructure." Zavallus ordered, and the two nodded.
"As I said before, if you encounter Katashi, you are to capture and bring him to me alive." Zavallus stated firmly.
"My lord, what of the village Ordon?" Komodo asked.
"We are, as some mortals say, saving the best for last." Zavallus replied.
The elites bowed and departed for their assigned tasks, leaving the God of Chaos alone in his chamber.
"Soon, Link and Zelda, everything and everyone precious to you will be torn away. I will succeed at what Ganondorf never could and claim your pieces of the Triforce. Once you have known complete and total despair, the two of you will feel the bite of my blades." He said, having a change of plans, as the Triforce of Power glowed on his hand.
However, Zavallus then found himself questioning his sudden choice to kill the King and Queen of Hyrule. If he does so, he'd be doing his enemies a favor, since Hades and the three Judges of the Underworld had predestined them to reside in Elysium once they pass on from the mortal world.
Cursing himself for his would be foolishness, Zavallus stormed over to well of Mystic Waters, one of the ways that allows him to observe the affairs of the mortal realm.
"No matter. By the end of this, they're going to wish they were dead." He sneered as the waters shifted, allowing him to spectate what his enemies were up to.
Hyrule Castle
Zelda and Link had spent the last hour preparing the Royal Guard for the inevitable bloodbath. The skills of the guardsmen had greatly improved since Link began training them two years ago. The Resistance, which has grown in size of members, has also stepped up to assist Link and Zelda in the fight against Zavallus. Rusl had also volunteered to aid, much to Uli's dismay. The Zoras and the Gorons are also participating in this battle.
Right now, Link and Zelda were sitting on the bed in their chamber, the latter resting her head on the former's shoulder. They both sat in silence for a while, neither of them sure of what to say.
Zelda was the one to break the silence. "When will the cycle end, Link?"
"What?" He asked, confused by the sudden question.
"I had hoped Ganondorf would be the last threat to Hyrule. But I was wrong. Why must malevolent forces continue to do harm to our kingdom? Why?" Zelda said, tears threatening to spill.
"Zelda." Link said softly. "We both knew it was only a matter of time before someone else reared their head. And as for when the cycle will end? I'm afraid it never will. There will always be those like Ganondorf and Zavallus, people who wish to spread death and destruction everywhere they go. But, there will always be those like us there to stop them. I promise you, Zelda, we will win this." He said.
Before Zelda could open her mouth to speak, there was a rapid knocking at their door. "My Lord and Lady?" A panicked voice said, causing Link and Zelda to stand up.
"Enter." Zelda ordered. The door flung open and in came a guard.
"Your Majesties, Kakariko Village is under attack! As is Zora's domain!" The guard exclaimed.
Link and Zelda exchanged looks. "I'll take Rusl, Ashei, and a battalion with me to Kakariko. You do what you can at Zora's Domain." Link said.
Zelda wanted to object, but now was not the time, so she simply nodded.
Outside within Castle Town, Roy and Malaya effortlessly made their way into the settlement.
"Let's go to work." Roy said to his companion, unsheathing his katana.
Kakariko Village
Zelda magically transported Link, Rusl, Ashei, and their battalion of soldiers to Kakariko Village. The warriors immediately charged off, engaging the undead monsters.
Rusl had just finished slaying an armed humanoid creature when his senses told him someone approaches from behind. He whirled around and brought his sword up just in time to block Komodo's axe. The Lizalflos then kicked the Ordon warrior in the chest, causing the man to stumble backwards. After composing himself, Rusl and Komodo glared at each other, daring the other to strike first.
"Many have died upon the blade of this axe, human. Prepare yourself to join them." Komodo sneered, pointing his weapon menacingly at Rusl, before charging forward, sword against axe.
Ashei was combating multiple beasts at once while being aided by royal soldiers when a beastly roar erupted from her left. She dodged out of the way just as Shakarus brought down his mighty hammer. Unfortunately, a royal guard had met a terrible end when the shark like being brought his weapon down, and the sickening sounds of bones breaking could be heard. Shakarus unleashed another roar before charging toward Ashei.
Link drove the Master Sword into the chest of a rather large undead creature. Sensing someone behind, Link whirled around and blocked the sword of his attacker. However, his eyes widened in shock when he saw his attacker looked very similar to him.
"Hiya Linky!" The doppelgänger said with a crazed grin.
"Who, no, what are you?" Link demanded, blades still locked.
"What's wrong Linky? Don't recognize your twin brother?" Dark asked with mock offense.
Suddenly, Dark struck Link across the face. Link barely had time to doge Dark's sword. "You're no twin of mine. You're just one of Zavallus' abominations." Link growled and to his surprise, Dark's psychotic expression morphed into one of anger and fury.
"Abomination!? I am his greatest creation!" Dark roared and went on a warpath.
Link found himself on the defensive. Dark attacked like a frenzied berserker, forcing him to either be constantly on the move or block his evil double' strikes.
Meanwhile, the fight between Rusl and Komodo raged on. Both combatants had gotten their share of strikes on the other.
"Your skills are impressive, human. You have my respect as warrior to warrior." Komodo complimented but Rusl shook his head.
"I am the warrior. You are a killer blindly following a mad god." The Ordon warrior stated.
"I see." Komodo said before lunging for Rusl.
Soon enough, Komodo was on the ground, unconscious but alive. Rusl would not strike him down in this state. The Lizalflos was beaten, not a threat. At least for now.
Shakarus tossed Ashei into a couple of royal soldiers knocking them down. Chuckling, Shakarus stalked to them, intending to end their existence.
That is, until he heard something in the distance. Looking to that direction, Shakarus snarled when he saw them.
Goron reinforcements coming from Death Mountain.
Snarling more, Shakarus took a look around and saw that the number of undead creatures that had accompanied him and his fellow elites had nearly depleted. But they had inflicted major damage on the village. Making his choice, the shark like being looked to where Dark was still viciously attacking his heroic counterpart.
"Dark, to me!" Shakarus shouted.
Dark gave Link a sadistic grin. "See ya later, Linky." He said before kicking Link in the chest and went to join his fellow elite.
"Goron reinforcements are on their way as we speak. We must retreat." Shakarus declared.
"What about Komodo?" Dark asked, pointing to where their unconscious comrade laid.
"I'm afraid he's on his own." Shakarus said regretfully before pulling out a bomb and threw it to the ground. Smoke engulfed the area, covering Shakarus and Dark's escape.
When the smoke cleared, Link sheathed the Master Sword and went to join Rusl and Ashei. "Search for survivors." He ordered to the surviving soldiers, who all nodded before doing as they were told. "You two okay?"
"I'm fine." Ashei said.
"Nothing I can't handle." Rusl assured him as a soldier approached them.
"Your Majesty. What do we do with him?" The man asked while gesturing to where Komodo still laid, out cold.
"We take him as a prisoner. We'll interrogate him when he wakes." Link said.
The soldier nodded and gestured for another soldier to help him haul Komodo off. But at the same time, Link's fight with Dark weighed heavily on his mind.
What was he?
