"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?" he repeated.
"Who's asking?" said Soul.
"Me." He took another step towards us and the Kirlia screeched and ran behind my legs. Soul, now propped up on his elbow, made an effort to get up but I signaled with my hand to have him stay.
"We need to handle this situation carefully" I told him telepathically. We had a way of doing that. "This can't turn into a fight because neither one of us is in a position to." And that was true; he shouldn't be awake never mind move.
"So, what happened to him?" he said waking me from my trance.
"That's none of your concern." I retorted.
"Sure it is! The guy's practically covered from head to toe in bandages!" he said back to me. He was growing more and more irritated by the second. If I don't think of something quick I don't know what will happen. My panic turns to horror at what he brings up next. "Hey, I heard about some magic Gallade who killed a Blaziken a few days ago… funny, you remind me of him." He spat out the word 'killed' like it was poison then glared at Soul, not in the way someone looks when they're enraged but the way a predator looks at prey. I took a step in front of Soul.
"I'd like you to leave" I said trying to sound firm and strong but couldn't help the way my voice faltered.
"Why? It's not like you could make me, you look as bad as he feels." He was right, my hair was frayed, I had black circles under my eyes to reveal just how tired I really was, and my posture was slouched. "What are your names by the way?" I opened my mouth to reply but Soul beat me to it.
"I'm Soul, and she's…"
"Alex" I finished for him.
"What about her?" he said nodding at the Kirlia.
"I don't need to tell you anything. " I told him.
"Why doesn't she tell me herself?" he snarled "So, what's your name?" the Kirlia just stared at the ground and stood closer to me. "Ah! The silent type." He said. I was utterly terrified; I had to grab my dress to stop my hands from shaking. What does he want? And why won't he just leave?
"I'll ask again…" my voice faltered and I swallowed, "Please leave!" it sounded more like a command than a request.
"I don't think so, um... what did you say your name was? Ummmmm….." he pondered for a minute, "oh yeah Alex, and isn't that a human name?"
"I d-don't know what you're talking about…" he started to walk towards me and I started to move backwards. All the fear I was hiding was now showing everywhere, my hands were shaking, I was breathing in short fast breaths, and my heart felt like bursting out of my chest. I backed up until we reached the cave wall and pressed against it as if I would sink through the cold rock. The Blaziken was only a few feet away when Soul grabbed his ankle.
"Don't … touch… her… or… else!" he sputtered between breaths. He leaned down towards Soul and sucker punched him in the face, Soul gasped then the Blaziken grabbed Soul's forehead and drove it into the ground and the entire cave echoed with the crack.
"NO! STOP IT!" I screamed and hurled myself at the Blaziken. I landed on his back and he brought his elbow crashing into my ribcage and all the breath got knocked out of me, I stood gasping for air when I was grabbed from both sides of my head and got thrust downward toward his waiting knee. The bottom of my jaw made contact with the top of his knee, my entire world was thrown around and I landed on the ground. I kneeled up to counter but I got grabbed by the throat and thrown to the wall I tried to loosen the grip on my neck but it held firm. I was raised into the air and I couldn't feel the ground beneath my feet anymore.
"This," whispered the Blaziken "is for my brother." My legs were churning in the air and I could see black and yellow spots at the edge of my vision. I couldn't see the Kirlia in the cave anymore. Good, I said to myself, she got away. Then I saw the Blaziken take out a purple syringe and he drove it into my neck. He released me and I fell to the ground black clouds covering my eyes and blood dripping from my mouth. The last thing I saw was the Blaziken walking out.
