"Neville!" Another person called. Neville's wildest dreams had finally come true. Although in his mind, all he'd done was swing a sword, these people seemed to think he was some kind of hero!

He was simply sitting at a table in the Great Hall after the battle, mulling things over, when Dean came up to him, then Seamus, then Parvarti, before he knew it he was surrounded by people congratulating him and they didn't just walk away after saying hello. There was a whole group around him! Everyone was talking and having a grand time, and he was in the middle of it. This was definitely a change from before. He had, of course gotten more friends from Dumbledore's Army, and even more during this year, but never had these sorts of people (and girls!) spoken to him like this before. Frankly, he was a bit terrified...correction completely terrified. Happy of course, but terrified. These were people who'd never spoken to him once during all seven years of school, popular kids like Cormac Mcglaggan and Cho Chang.

Merlin, he was happy. Finally, he was being accepted. But something seemed a little off. As though he was missing someone very important.

He looked over at one of the girls talking to him, a pretty brunette whose name he couldn't quite recall, when he saw the Malfoys sitting all alone at one of the tables. His first reaction was anger. But then he remembered that Harry had mentioned that Draco's mum had saved him. Neville didn't know how that was possible, but the Malfoys certainly didn't look evil right now. They looked almost...scared. It was strange to see his school tormentor, a death eater, and the sister of Bellatrix Lestrange looking scared and skittish, as though they didn't belong. Usually Neville was the one who felt that way.

Suddenly a waft-like girl with long blonde hair and a tray of food walked-practically glided-up to the infamous trio who before had been isolated. Although he didn't see her face, he immediately knew who it was.

"Luna." He said out loud, suddenly yearning for her company. He hadn't properly spoken to her since before she was captured. Of course he'd said a quick hello before the battle, but that was all.

"Luna?" The brunette asked. She turned around to see what he was looking at. "Oh! Looney Lovegood!" She laughed. "Is she giving food to the Malfoys? What a freak."
"Don't call her that." He heard himself say. The girl laughed and said something about "the brave little Gryffindor".

Neville got up suddenly. "Where are you going?" She asked, almost demandingly.
"I have to talk to Luna." He said mostly to himself.
"What? Why do want to-hey, wait!" Neville didn't hear what else the girl was saying as he was already halfway to Luna.

She had finished offering food to the now quite bewildered Malfoys and gave them one last smile before walking off.

"Luna!" Neville called.
"Neville!" She cried with a brilliant smile. They happily embraced. Neville thought for an instant that perhaps she had hung on just long enough that there was something more...but no, that was foolish thinking. He quickly pushed it aside.

"How have you been?" He asked her eagerly. Merlin, he had missed her.
She laughed a little. "Much better than I was."
"So it's true...you were captured." He hadn't wanted to believe it, it was too horrible to imagine.
"Yes. I was at Malfoy manor."
"So then why did you offer food to them?" He asked incredulously.
"I wasn't the only one trapped there." She replied simply yet wisely with a benevolent smile and twinkling eyes.
"Only you, Luna. Only you can see things like that." He said with a crooked smile.
"You're wrong." She answered, returning his smile. "Anyone can, they just have to look for it."
"Luna!" A voice cried from the entrance. Neville turned to see who it was. A tall, thin man with wiry blonde hair was hurrying towards them.
"I have to go, that's my father." She waved to Neville and briskly walked away.

Father and daughter embraced, but Luna seemed cross with him. She led him over to a table and they began a very animated discussion.

"Hey mate." He felt someone clap his shoulder. He turned and was greeted by a friendly head of bright orange hair.
"Hey Ron." Neville replied with a smile. Ron looked over at Luna and her father and sighed.
"I hope she's giving him a right talking to." He grumbled.
"Why?" Neville asked.
"He bloody betrayed us that's why! We stopped at his house hoping for some information, but he tricked us and called the Death Eaters! The bloody git..."
"Well, he's not completely at fault." Another familiar voice added.
"Hey, Hermione." Neville greeted her.
"He blood well is at fault!" Ron exclaimed.
"Hello Neville." She replied warmly before turning back to Ron. "They were holding Luna hostage. Who knows what they were threatening him with."
"Well still, it's clear Luna didn't want him to betray us." He said gesturing to them.
Hermione sighed. "I suppose you're right, but still what's a father to do in that situation?!Anyways, I'm off to bed. It's been quite a day." She gave Ron a quick kiss on the cheek and hurried off, blushing slightly.

Neville raised his eyebrows and smiled. "About time." He remarked cheekily.
"Oh shut it." Ron shoved him, but he couldn't hide his grin.
"You and Luna are next." Ron said teasingly.
Neville stopped chuckling suddenly. "What?"
"Oh, stop denying it, you and her have practically been a thing since fifth year."
"No we're not-she doesn't-I'm not-ugh!" He put his head in his hands. "Merlin, I do like her don't I?"
"If you're just seeing this now, you must be completely mental."
"I suppose I've known for a while now...it's just with the war, I didn't have time to focus on something like that...and of course I'm bloody terrified. What if she doesn't like me? What if she sees me as some foolish dork? What if she-"
"Neville, mate, honestly. You are being absolutely ridiculous. This is Luna freaking Lovegood we're talking about here! She's not just any girl! Merlin knows that she's the last one who would think that! And of course she likes you, you dumbo!" He sighed. "Look, I get what you're thinking. I was absolutely terrified of what might happen if I told Hermione that I fancied her. I wasted way too much time thinking, so here's my advice, don't think, act. Like ripping off a band-aid...except hopefully if won't hurt...well you never know, she might say no...that would hurt...hmm...in retrospect that was not the best simile to use...Anyways, good luck, mate!" He clapped Neville on the back cheerfully and walked off. Typical Ron to mess up a perfectly good pep-talk just at the end.

Luna got up from her conversation with her father and walked out of the Great Hall. Neville gulped, steeled himself, and ran after her.

"Luna, wait!" She turned around and her previously glum face burst into a smile.
"Hey, Neville."
"I'm just going to rip off the band-aid and I really hope it doesn't hurt!" He exclaimed, probably sounding completely mental. However, Luna only nodded understandingly, so he continued. "Do you want to go out with me?" He closed his eyes, ready for the worst.
"Finally! I thought that perhaps Wrakspurts had completely infested your brain!"
He opened his eyes in surprise. "Wait-what?"
"Wrakspurts, they make your brain-"
"No, I know about Wrakspurts, I mean why did you say 'finally'?"
She smiled broadly as though the answer was obvious.
"I thought you'd never ask." She stood on her tiptoes, planted a quick kiss on his check, and serenely skipped off into the grounds, leaving behind Neville with a ridiculously large grin plastered to his bright red face.
