Chapter 7 The Chase

Clank! Clank! Clank! It took all my effort just to keep going up the stairs let alone clearing the flights at any speed. All those years of ditching P.E were going to catch up to me eventually and I think this was going to be the day. "Come on Alexandra we've got to keep going" shouted Rosie from the flight above me, why was this castle even made with stairs anyway they were rich enough for a lift.

"Im not going anywhere until you call me Alex", I shouted back

"There's no time for that now Alex", Ethan panted he was coming up behind me; he started to frantically pull me up the stairs. I almost tripped over the antique vase at the top of the 14th flight. The way we were going he was going to catch up to us in no time.

"Where's Carter anyway", I asked

"She had to stay down there with Major Mason, it's her Duty, and it's yours to be the heir to the throne and you can't do that in prison so hurry up" Rosie was right I should probably hurry up I just wish I could, after the 10th Flight I drastically slowed down from exhaustion.. and a stich.

"The only reason I was allowed to come was because I have to protect you" Smiled Ethan

"Oh you were coming, if you liked it or not" I laughed

"Guys, get a mo…" Rosie was cut off. Clank! Clank! He was definitely gaining on us. I tried to swallow that feeling of fear that started tunnelling its way through my stomach Clank! Clank!

I don't know whether it was the prospect of dying or the fact that after all this exercise I was now fitter but I was definitely speeding up, don't get me wrong Ethan was still dragging me up the stairs like a limp ragdoll but I was keeping up.. I think. It was a good thing (him dragging me) because I didn't know where we were going I didn't even know the plan. "How many more stairs have we got" I panted

"Almost there, any second now" replied Rosie seconds later all three of us burst through onto the balcony. I didn't like the look of it, I was scared about what they were going to suggest because it was too far down to even look let alone…

"JUMP! Alex" Rosie screamed at me while taking a running leap of the balcony.

"WTF! Don't you even think about mak…" I was suddenly stopped by the door smashing open and six guards and Kane came onto the balcony

"Just do it" Ethan pleaded at me. I stood on the edge of the fall looking down, I know it was the wrong time but the only thing going through my head was why the railing was missing. I started to bend my knees to take the jump. Then I heard screaming behind me, Ethan was trying to keep Seven Armed Men from getting me and failing.

"Do it for me" Ethan panted just before a sword was thrust into his stomach by one of Kane's stupid armed guards .

My knees buckled and I started to fall off the edge, I was suspended in mid-air for a long time before I realised I wasn't moving, the same armed guard that killed Ethan had hold of my legs. He started dragging me back onto the balcony as Kane came and joined me on the edge. I tried to push him off the balcony himself but all that got me was a kick in the head my arms being tied behind my back.

"Goodbye" I whispered to Ethan as they dragged me out the door back down the stairs I spent so much effort trying to get up before they got me. My head was smacked against every stone step as they dragged me down all 20 flights of stairs. I didn't care though all I was thinking about was Ethan and the last glimpse of hope that faded from his eyes as he watched me being dragged away my thes morons most possibly to my death.
