Words left people's mouths, stolen by fear. Eyes widened, and hearts skipped. Bad timing mom, Marshall thought nervously as he cautiously floated over to the door and opened it. His mom was standing there, looking as professional as ever, and he let her in. The woman looked around, taking in the scene. This definitely is not a good time, Marshall Lee thought as he tried to lighten the mood and break the stiff silence of the room. He went over to Fionna, sat down next to her, noting that she didn't blink an eye as he did so, her gaze was locked on his mother. "Well, hello, mom. What do you need?"
His mom, still looking at Gumball, Flame Prince, and Fionna, said, "Who are these people? Are they edible?" she asked as she dove for Gumball, a wicked grin on her face.
"Mom!" Marshall yelled. He might not like the princes, but he cared if his mom sucked the souls out of them, especially if she went overboard and sucked the soul from Fionna. He shot up off the couch and grabbed her arm.
Marshall's mom stopped, still smiling madly, and turned to faced Marshall, her expression turning to mock confusion. "So they aren't food?" she asked, feigning sincerity.
"No! They're, well, friends," Marshall said, cringing slightly. "Look, what do you want?" he asked.
Marshall's mom went over to a chair and sat down casually. "Look, Marshall. I want to ask you something." She looked at the other three. "Alone."
Marshall, Gumball, Fionna, and Flame Prince, all exchanged uneasy and wondering looks.
"I don't know, mom, I'd really just like to –"
"I said," the woman repeated, her gaze fixed to Marshall, "alone."
"Ok, ok," Fionna heeded, skeptically eyeing Marshall Lee's mother as she got up, clutching the ice to her arm, and left, followed by Gumball and FP.
"Sit down Marshall," his mother said, and Marshall Lee sat back down. "Like I said, I have something to tell you. She reached out and took Marshalls hand. Marshall was instantly wary. Why is she being so nice right now? he wondered, awkwardly looking down at his lap, anything to avoid looking his mother in the eye.
The answer to his question was revealed a second later when Marshall felt a searing cold shoot up from his hand up his arm. His gaze flew up at his mom, but he found his mom wasn't there. Instead, much to his horror, the Ice Queen sat in her place! Marshall tried to tear his hand from the Ice Queens grip, but it was impossible. The ice was engulfing him, and fast; soon, he was frozen up to his neck.
The Ice Queen sneered. "Hah!" she said triumphantly. "You," she said, sneering directly in Marshall's face, "are coming with me!" Before she said or did anything else, Fionna burst through the door, and the Ice Queen used her free hand to hurl an ice bolt at her. The young girl dodged it, but at the expense of her injured arm. "Try and take him," the Ice Queen hissed, "See what happens!"
"Unhand him you icy witch!" Fionna shouted, and the Ice Queen cackled.
"Only if my beloved Gumball will sacrifice himself and come with me!"
Gumball, who had come to Fionna's side, looked aghast, "Absolutely not!"
Ignitus went in front of them both and looked ready to lob a fire ball at the Ice Queen, but Marshall stopped him, "Don't! My house is flammable, y'know!"
The Ice Queen laughed again, "If I cannot have my Gumball, you cannot have your friend!" With that, she opened a portal, shoved him in, and stepped in herself.
