He winced as his father struck him again. "She is dead! You stupid brat! There is no point in searching for her!"

He stumbled backwards. His father was in a worse mood than usual. His father raised his fist, and he automatically raised his arms in front of him, in attempt to shield himself from his father's wrath.

His father instead looked past him and looked at the clock he was about to run into. "Hmph. We will finish this conversation later, boy."

He moved away from him and he watched his father walk out the door, locking it before he slammed it shut.

He trembled at the noise. He had been punished after the incident with the Lockwells. Edward sighed in relief, and mentally called Antoinette to his window.

He watched an icy eyed raven fly up to his window, he opened the window and stepped out of the way. He watched her transformation, blue-black feathers into fiery red hair, wings into slender arms. A few seconds later it was Antoinette who was standing in place of the raven.

"They were very well hidden, but I still managed to get them after your pitiful attempt." Antoinette said carelessly as she dropped into one of his chairs.

His hands curled into fists, "Well what do you expect? I've never stolen anything like that before, and besides I'm only human." He raged. It was her fault for having such high expectations.

"Yet it was no feat for you to kill a woman in cold blood. Not to mention injuring a halfling demon."

Edward grit his teeth. He hated that she brought this up. The only reason he killed her was because she was in his way. He was aware of Avella's condition for a long time, whenever he went too far she would get angry and her eyes would change color. He only found out recently that she couldn't be killed by normal beings.

He knew it was possible she hated him with every fiber of her existence, he did kill her mother after all. Still Edward cared for her. Thanks to his father's influence, he could never seem to express it properly.

He closed his eyes in frustration, if he cared for her so much, why did he kill her mother, why does he always harass her. His knuckles turned white from clenching them so hard. It was her fault for making him feel this way, he hated her for that.

She scoffed, "Nevertheless we have them, I've checked my resources and luckily we only need two of these four for the ritual." Edward relaxed. Sure she was rude at times, but she never lost sight of what was really important.

"If we only need two, why did you rob all four?" he asked her.

At this she shrugged and said simply, "These are powerful amulets, anyone who didn't seize that chance would be a fool."

Edward slowly nodded. "So after we do the ritual, where will you go after our contract is complete?" He wondered, they couldn't just simply part ways afterwards as Antoinette explained previously.

Antoinette sighed, "Does that matter? You get the girl, your enemies are dead, and everything will be as you wanted."

He smiled contently, she was making sure everything goes as planned. When they forged a contract she wouldn't tell him certain parts of it. He didn't care at the time, he was just overjoyed someone was willing to help him. He regretted not asking her at the time, it might have been something important.

He fingered the golden ring on his middle finger. Antoinette had given him this ring as a gift. It was gold with inlaid diamonds, and a single ruby was in the center of it all. Antoinette said she found it during her endeavors in hell.

He knew he would treasure it forever. He got this unexplainable feeling when he wore it. Even if it was just him in a room, he would slip on the ring and he felt he wasn't alone anymore. He could never explain the sudden outbursts of emotion, but he couldn't help but wonder if it was tied to having the ring.

He looked up at Antoinette, who was eyeing him questionably. "So where do we need to perform it?" he asked.

Antoinette said, "Someplace high up, like on top of a very tall building. That way we know for sure the influence of the ritual affects what you wanted, where ever they may be." He nodded.

Antoinette had told him how the ritual is going to work out, how it will grant him his wish. "I need you to do something."

Antoinette raised her eyebrow. He felt his contract seal on the back of his neck start to burn. "Find Avella Lockwell and bring her to me."

Antoinette's eyes flashed red and she replied, "As you wish, my master."

He watched her transform back into a raven, and she flew out the window. He closed the window and felt a wave of fatigue. He was lately drowsier than he should be, no matter how much he slept.

He sat on the edge of his bed, he actually felt exhausted. 'What's wrong with me?' He wondered to himself as he lied down and drifted off to sleep.

Antoinette's POV~

She had been tracking her niece ever since her master ordered her to, which was three days ago. It was as if she vanished, without a trace. She finally paused for a moment to rest.

She flew to a secluded tree, away from all the city noise. She wondered if Avella could have gone to the country. She ruffled her feathers, trying to get comfortable.

She usually turned into a raven to travel; now it was partly to eavesdrop. She couldn't help but wonder about her niece, how her life has been, what kind of person she is. She gave up. 'No, she's an abomination and I want nothing to do with her.' She reasoned as she flew off.

She went into a dark ally way and transformed back into human form. She walked out of the ally way and heard people talking about something that caught her attention.

"But she's being seen out of town, and they are doing nothing to investigate."

A woman spoke, "Hmph. She's part a powerful family, and there are rumors about her whereabouts, shouldn't that tell you enough that maybe they don't want to find her."

Antoinette stepped in. "Rumors about whose whereabouts?" she asked in a curious but innocent tone.

The people looked at her cautiously before a woman answered, "That Lockwell girl in Birmingham, have you not heard of it? The poor girl was thought dead, yet she was seen in London not too long ago."

Another man spoke up, "She was also seen here, near the bar on Frontworth."

"What happened to the rest of her family?" she asked.

"Murdered." They said simply.

Antoinette furrowed her brow, "Why do you think her family was murdered?"

Some of them shrugged, "Who knows? Greed and lust can make a man do all sorts of things."

'Indeed' Antoinette thought to herself as she left the group. She knew her master wasn't going to be happy for her to take this long.

She didn't really care. He was just a means to an end. She hadn't told him the true price of the contract. The contract wouldn't allow this so she found a way to cheat out of it. As long as he keeps wearing that ring, they both win.

It was getting dark, her master would be retiring soon. She unfurled her wings and flew to the sky. She, as a demon, didn't need to sleep, so she usually just guarded the amulets.

She arrived at the manor and disguised herself as a raven again. She flew to the tree in front of her master's window. She pecked at the hollow trunk and heard a faint disturbance in the sound. She would have smiled.

She would not make that crow's mistake in leaving the amulets unattended. She settled in, knowing which locations to re-check in the morning.
