-Kevin's POV—
"This doesn't lead anywhere." Gwen says, sighing as she let her arms fall to her sides and the pink glow left her eyes. "Maybe the Plumbers have found something." I say, shrugging, but I didn't know what else I could do. "Yeah…" Gwen murmurs, looking over her shoulder at the sky. "Hey, we'll find him." I say, though I wasn't sure that we would, but hope was a great thing to have sometimes, I knew it'd hit her hard if we didn't find him and she'd gotten her hopes high, but right now I need her to focus, so that we might find him, and after it this is over with, and if we haven't found him still, then we could both drown ourselves in sorrow and whatever other emotions we'll feel, but we both need to focus now.
I place my hands on her shoulders after a moment, but I didn't turn her around. If she wanted to hide her tears or whatever from me then I'd let her. Who was I to see her cry and comfort her in a time like this? I was her guy, but Ben was her best friend…not even I knew how close they were…or had been before I came into the picture. I wasn't going to ask questions, either. I wasn't exactly here to question, so long as it wasn't about me and her. I was here to love her, care for her, hang out with her and that sort of stuff, but not if she didn't want me to. If I'm being honest, I don't really deserve her, but I wouldn't tell her that, if she likes me then it's her fault.
"Let's go." Gwen says, pulling away and walking over to my ride to get into the passenger seat. I sighed before walking over to my side. I could have yelled something about how I could smell smoothie in the car, which is Ben's fault, since he'd spilt smoothie on the backseat just the other day and I hadn't cleaned it out yet, but then I couldn't, since Ben wasn't around…something about the thought of saying something like 'I can't believe he spilt smoothie in my car' seemed…disrespectful…. And I'm not usually polite, either.
"When we find Ben I'm going to make him clean the backseats…see how he likes it." I say, and that somehow seemed okay to say. Maybe because 'when we find Ben' made it seem like we will find Ben…helps a lot with the whole hope thing I was already thinking about. Gosh…hope? What am I thinking anyway? We might find him, and we might not. I'll live either way…. It'd be stupid to suffer a long time just because someone died…just because your best friend died…. So, I'll be fine….
We were getting close to the new Plumbers base, its cover name being 'Max's Plumbing'. Just a couple of turns to go, it'd been a silent ride, and now I turn to look a Gwen. The first thing I noticed was that she was unhappy…sad and somewhat angry looking. The white part of her eyes were red with tears that she was holding back, her eyebrows were drawn down, making her look angry, and her elbow was leaning on the car window seal, her face lying on her palm. "Want to talk?" I ask, still staring at her. Her hair was down, I realize. She usually kept her hair up. Maybe it was because Ben was missing….
"No, not really…" She says, turning her head to the window and out of my sight. I stared at her for a moment more, once again wondering in the back of my mind how her hair was so red. "Do you need to talk?" I tried this time, trying not to seem too worried. "Probably not…" Gwen mumbles. I arched my eyebrow even though she couldn't see me do as much. She turned to look at me, as if sensing that I was watching her.
"If I start talking about how as miss him…look, it won't do any good, we just need to find him…." She says, seeming to be more controlled now. I nodded, turning my attention back to the rode, though I was really good and looking away from the road and still driving, since I'd had so much practice while turning to glare at Ben all those times…. Alright, I get it…I need to admit that I miss him…a lot. And I do…. I may not seem like I care about him, and I may never have said as much, still might not ever say it, but Ben and I both knew that we were best friends…it was an unspoken understanding.
And now that that's off my mind, I may focus more…right. It didn't help at all. I turn and park in a free space before unbuckling myself. I step out and watched Gwen walk to Max's plumbing, then I lock the door to my ride and follow after her. I'd actually never even came to this Plumbers' base yet, but I was told it was working at well, considering it wasn't finished yet. We both took the strange elevator, then appeared in the first room of the base, where a blond girl was standing, apparently waiting to greet others. "Hello, names please." The girl says. "I'm Gwen Tennyson." Gwen answers, crossing her arms.
"And you?" The girl asks, turning to me. "I'm with her." I answer, walking past her to a computer area. I heard the girl say something snide, and then Gwen spoke up, "His is Kevin Levin." The girl seemed to like that answer a whole lot better, but I wasn't paying her attention now. "Well, if it isn't Cooper…" I say, sitting down in a chair next to his. He looked up from his computer and to me, surprise clear on his face. "Any luck following Ben's Ma…whatever it's called?" Cooper asks, his eyebrows furrowing. I shook my head, looking at the different screens.
"Can't we track them or something?" A familiar voice asks, and I recognized it as Julie's. "Sorry, no one saw the ship…and if we track Ben's DNA…well, he's been probably everywhere, so it won't work." Cooper answers, shrugging. "Well…we have to do something…. Max told me that you two think Albedo did this, I'm wondering though…did he do this by himself? And what does he want?" Julie asks, glancing from me and Gwen. "He might have had help…. Last time we saw him he had three actors as his minions." Gwen says, putting a hand to her chin.
"What were their names? We might be able to find." Cooper says, looking over to Gwen. "Um…Hugh was one of their names…" Gwen shrugs. I couldn't quite remember the other's names either, so I stayed quiet. "What was he?" Cooper asks, typing something. "He was…Humungousaur? I don't know what species." Gwen answers, looking a little frustrated. "Yeah, I know which one then." Cooper says, continuing to type. "Alright, so we have a little information about him. Let me see if we have any DNA…it'll be at a different base, but I can reach the information." Cooper says after a moment of silence.
I would have said 'great', but…even if we did find Ben now, would he still be alive? People had tried to take his Omnitrix before, but those times the people who wanted the Omnitrix had used baiting or straight forward attacks. This time was different. And where did Albedo get a ship? Or the other tools he must have had to make that square in the window? Wait…something suddenly smells fishy…. Argit! He must have had a deal with Albedo…but what did Albedo have that Argit wanted? Probably a ship part or something expensive…but where would Albedo even find that? None of this makes any sense to me.
"Okay, found it. He apparently got a bad nose bleed when he was at one of our Plumbers' bases where you report problems, where he was complaining about how the humans weren't being nice. Um…I'll go ahead and start tracking where he and Ben have been, to lower the possibilities." Cooper says, nodding to himself as he typed. "So what does Albedo want?" Julie asks, frowning. "He probably wants Ben's Omnitrix…." Gwen says. "Here, they've both been to three different places." Cooper says, gesturing to the three places on the screen.
"Kevin and I will go to that one." Gwen says, walking over to point at that one place. "I'll go with you two." Julie says sounding…kind of brave, or at least like she was trying to be brave. "Okay, I'll go to that planet and take some people with me." Cooper says, also pointing at one place on the screen. "What about that one?" Gwen asks. "I'll send some others there." Cooper says, nodding, before looking at Gwen who was standing between my chair and Cooper's. "Okay, let's get to it." I say, standing. "Be careful…all of you." Cooper says, but I could tell he particularly meant Gwen. "You too, Cooper." Gwen says, nodding to him before turning towards the elevator. "Come on, Ship." Julie says, pulling him up into her arms. The search for Ben had clearly started, but would we find him? And if we did, would he be alive?
Okay, so writing in Kevin's perspective may seem odd, but it had to be that way, I just hope I did a good job! Reviews, please! Should have the next one up on next Wednesday, or it might be sooner.
