Chapter 7 'Flashbacks'

Helena's point of view

Tonight was the last night that they would be staying here before they all took off to the CDC. Helena and Andrea were inside the R.V. getting everything ready for Amy's mini birthday party and the last meal that they would be having at camp. While everyone else waited outside around the fire pit where they normally ate. Daryl did not sit in the circle with them, instead he sat on a folding chair outside the circle, behind Rick. He could still see the group even if he was behind Rick.

Coming out of the R.V, Helena was holding a platter of deer meat she had cooked along with the cooked organs.

"Helena, may I just say that smells divine." Dale commented.

Smiling her friendly smile Helena replied, "Why thank you Dale, but I can't take all the credit. If Daryl did not track the deer and lead it towards camp, we would not be having this conversation."

Setting the platter on the ground in front of Carol, so she could pass the food around, Helena sat down next to Glenn and Amy who were both sitting on the log that Daryl had brought over from his camp site with the help of the other guys. Across from her was Daryl and Rick.

Rick nodded his head 'yes' and said, "That's true. May I be the first one to say thank you." He then raised up his water bottle then looked over at Daryl and began to say his thanks. "Daryl, thank you for providing us all with dinner. Providing us with strength so we can head to the CDC."

Everyone else also raised their water bottles in thanks and took a drink. Daryl bashfully looked away rubbing the back of his head.

Amy, still in her spot, looked around before asking the group, "Were is Andrea?"

"Right Here." Andrea replied.

Amy looked towards the R.V. She wore a big smile on her face when she looked at Andrea. Andrea came out of the R.V with a platter as well, but on her platter was a Twinkie with a candle in the middle. Helena had used one of the candles she found at Rick's House and carved it down to put in the middle of the poor excuse of a birthday cake. Next to the poor excuse of a birthday cake was a small origami box with an under the sea pattern.

Andrea began to sing 'Happy Birthday' to Amy. The others grew smiles on their faces as they followed suit. Daryl was not smiling or singing, but if you were close enough. You could hear him quietly hum the 'Happy birthday' song. This was probably the only real smiles that they have had all day.

Lowering the platter in front of Amy, Andrea slowly backed away and once the song ended, Amy blew out her birthday candle.

"I know that you can't tell anyone what you wished for, but you have better have wished for all this walker shit to be over with." T-dog half joked and half hoped. Everyone in the circle did a light chuckle, because they all wished the same thing.

Picking up the origami box, Amy admired the craftsmanship of the box and the pattern on it. Smirking Amy looked over at Helena and told her, "Why do I get the feeling that you made this?"

With a smirk and in a teasing tone Helena replied, "Because your sister wanted the best!"

Andrea who was sitting on the other side of Amy told her sister, "Open it!"

Carefully Amy opened the origami box and pulled out the mermaid neckless. Even a blind man could tell that Amy loved what her sister had got her. She thanked her sister and Helena for what they had done for her.

"Speaking of gifts. I got something for you Helena." Glenn said shyly.

Surprised, Helena looked at Glenn, who was opening up his backpack. When Glenn handed her the art supplies that he had found when looking for Merle, Helena smiled brightly. Glancing at Amy and Andrea, then looking back at what Glenn had got for her, particularly the canvases, a cherished memory flashed in to her mind and made her heart ace.

-Flash Back-

"Just show me what you have done to the art room already!" Helena excitedly told her brother. Chuckling Jason still covered his sister's eyes while he guided her towards their art room.

Today was their 21st birthday. Jason had made her birthday gift in the art room that they both shared. For weeks he had not let her enter the art room, afraid that it would ruin the surprise. If she ever needed anything from the art room, she would have to ask Jason to get it for her. When Jason was in the art room working on her gift. All you could hear from the room was clanking, hammering, drilling, and other tool noises.

The last 5 days before their birthday, Jason had made her pick up a shift at the club. So he could finish the gift. Since she was a retired dancer, she wore a mask, wore different colored eye contacts and danced as a back ground dancer. So the clientele did not think she was back. If picking up a shift at the club told her anything, it was that she was out of shape! Luckily Cora was just happy to have her back momentarily to nag her about it.

"Ok stay right here and don't open your eyes!"

Letting of Helena's shoulders, Jason leaned over her and opened the door to the art room. If she didn't already know that they were headed towards the art room, she would know now because their art room door made a squeaky sound when you opened it.

"You always have to show off with how tall you are?" Helena said jokingly.

Again chuckling, he led her inside the art room. Teasing her back he said, "Come on shorty!"

"Hey! It's not my fault that you hogged up all the room in mom's womb!"

They both laughed as they walked on the cold stone floor in the art room. The stone floor helped make the massive, high ceiling room slightly cold. Just cold enough to help keep Jason's clay moist. Unfortunately that was bad for her paintings. If a painting only took 3 days to dry, it would take a week for her. That would sometimes cause her problems not only for her, but also the buyer. And that equaled to the loss of money and bad reputation as an artist.

"Alright Open!" Jason exclaimed. Helena opened her eyes fully expecting something big in the art room, but she found nothing. Nothing had been changed or misplaced.

*Am I supposed to look for it?*

Thinking that was it, she started looking on her right side were her drawing and painting station was. The white walls were lined with two large book shelves that were filled with art books, old sketch books and her portfolio. Next to the book shelves was a Metal rack that held all her paints, all color coordinated. Underneath the metal rack was a huge roll of canvas that she could cut out when she needed it. In front of the metal rack and the book shelves were 3 art easels. The middle one was her draft easel where she would plan and keep her next ideas for an art piece. It was more like a desk in a way. The easel on the left was her drawing easel that held everything you would need for drawing and the right one was her painting easel that held paint brushes, rags and paint that she was currently using. In the middle of all the easels was a stool that she could sit at.

Walking over to the other side of the room, over to where Jason's work station was. Unlike Helena, Jason had only one long table for his own arts. For designing jewelry and vases. Next to his table was a potter's wheel. Behind his work station were two more rooms. The first room behind him was the room where he would harden his clay. Then the 2nd room was a storage room where he would store uncut stones, uncut gems, and all different types of beads for when he made Jewelry.

The only last place to look was behind the T.V. It was nice to listen to something while working.

Jason trying his best not to laugh at his twin's frustrated face, pointed up at the ceiling.

Raising one of her eyebrows in confusion, Helena looked up. She found 8 individual drying racks, with numbers painted underneath them, hanging from the ceiling by chains and wires.

Looking back at her brother, Helena was still confused.

Smiling proudly, Jason stood next to Helena and took out a T.V. remote from his pocket. He then told her, "This year I wanted to give you something that would help you out. So I designed a mobile drying system for your paintings, since your crap takes forever to dry.'" Saying the last part in a funny way. Helena would have joked back, but she was so amazed by what he had done.

"Before you marvel at my genius, I want to show you how this works. All the racks have a number painted underneath them, so you call tell them apart. Go sit on your seat real quick and take this with you." Said Jason as he handed her the remote. Taking the remote, Helena smiled happily and ran over to her work station to sit down. Like a child on Christmas morning.

"Now let's say that you need a canvas from rack 8. You would press the number 8 on the control. If you would be so kind my 'lovely' sister."

Rolling her eyes, she pressed the number 8 on the control. The rack with the number 8 on it, lowered itself directly above her painting easel.

"If you want the canvas to go on the easel, hit the select button."

Hitting the select button, the rack lowered closer to the painting easel. Two little robotic arms untucked themselves from the rack and picked up the canvass and gently placed it on the easel. Then the robotic arms tucked themselves back in the rack as the rack went back up to the ceiling. Helena knew her brother was a genius at this type of stuff, but he really hit a home run with this! She looked at her twin with both amazement and excitement. Jason knew he had made the right choice for this being her birthday gift.

"When you want the canvas to back on the rack. Just press 8 again, but this time hit the down arrow." Jason directed. Following her brothers directions again, she watched the rack again lower itself and the little robotic arms popped out and picked up the canvas.

Taking a quick peek inside the rack, Helena could tell that the robotic arms, when tucked in, helped keep the canvases in place when on the rack. Facing Jason, Helena smiled and ran over to him. She hugged him and gave him a kiss on the check.

"You my brother are a genius among all geniuses! I LOVE it! I am sorry to say that my gift to you is not as awesome as yours."

Smirking Jason joked, "Well can you imagine if the almighty created two overly awesome people in the world? It would just be plain unfair to all those other people in the world."

Helena playfully smacked her brother on his shoulder. Causing Jason's laughter to echo across the room.

-End of Flash Back-

Holding back her tears, Helena turned to Glenn and hugged him. No one noticed Daryl twitch in his seat or the glare he sent at Helena and Glenn.

Bashfully, Glenn returned the hug.

"Thank you Glenn. You helped me remember some cherished memories that I had locked away." Letting go of Glenn, Helena put on a smile despite the feeling of sadness in her and looked over at Sophia. "Speaking of gifts, I got something for you Sophia."

Reaching into her backpack, Helena pulled out the neckless that she had made for her and tossed it towards her. Sophia caught it and smiled.

"It's really pretty! The baby dear is so cute!" Sophia happily said.

Carol who was sitting next to her daughter, looked over the neckless too. Although Carol's smile was small, she looked over at Helena trying to express her thanks without using words.

Understanding that Carol was still shy, Helena nodded her head at her, letting Carol know that she understood.

Sophia jumped off her chair to hug Helena, then went to show everyone the neckless that Helena had made for her. In which everyone commented, but Daryl, still being the lone wolf of the group. That did not stop the little girl from showing him though.

Helena looked like she was listening, but her mind was wandering around in the world of her twin, with all those locked away memories she had of him. The only ones who seemed to realize that Helena was in her own little world was Rick and Daryl.

Wanting to be alone, Helena stood up and took her plate of food that already had a slice of deer meat on it and said to everyone. "I am going to eat this and call it a night. Goodnight everyone and sleep well my little wolf pups!"

Sliding her backpack onto her shoulder, Helena walked towards Daryl's camp site. As the others told her goodnight, Rick was about to get up and follow her to make sure she was alright. Lori, realizing this, started a conversation with her husband, making him sit where he was at. Since no one paid any attention to Daryl, they didn't see or hear him take his plate and go to his camp site as well.

Helena had changed into warmer clothing because she no longer had the warmth of the fire to keep her warm. Sitting down on the cot she had woken up in that morning. Helena began to eat only small bites of her food even though she had been craving a good piece of deer meat all yesterday.

Maybe it was because her memories of her twin kept flashing before her and Helena did not want to remember these memories. Yes, she loved Jason dearly; their bond was a special one. That's why she locked away everything about him. The pain of losing him was too much to bear, but those flashbacks kept on coming.

-Flash Back-

This memory was back when she was a younger teen, around 13-14 years old. It was a Friday night around 1am. Helena sat at their round dinner table working on her and Jason's homework. She always preferred to get homework over with when she could. Before she would give Jason's homework back to him, she would make sure that he got the basics of the subject.

The reason why she was up so late was because, Helena was waiting for Aditsan and Jason to come home. Aditsan was a park ranger at their tribe's preserved lands. He got a call around 10pm about some illegal hunting that was happening. Jason wanted to tag along to get some prior experience since he wanted to be a park ranger and an artist one day, but Aditsan told him he couldn't come because it might be dangerous.

Not taking no for an answer, he just waited a few minutes after Aditsan left to take the spare truck that they had to follow Aditsan. One of the best perks of living in deep country was that you could drive a car without a license and not get caught by the cops. Why? Because the country was too big for the local police, besides they had other things to worry about.

A sudden feeling of sadness and grief washed over her, but those feelings weren't hers. They were her brother's. Ever since they were very young, they could feel what the other was feeling, even if one of them got hurt. For example one time she got a paper cut on her hand in class while Jason was in the office dropping off some papers for their teacher. Right were Helena got a paper cut, a red line appeared on Jason's hand.

Helena became very nervous over Jason's and Aditsan's well-being. Thinking that if she did some house work, it would help her work off her anxiety, but the house was clean like a newly made penny. So she ended up pacing in the living room.

When she finally heard one of the trucks pull in to the driveway, Helena sprinted over to the front door and waited on the porch. Jason hastily, but carefully stepped out of the truck. He was not wearing his shirt. Instead his shirt was wrapped around something fairly big. As he approached her, Helena stopped herself from giving Jason a lecture. What had stopped her was that he looked like he was determined about something and something bloody was tied around his long leather cord neckless that he always wore.

In a traumatized voice Jason pleaded, "Sis, I need your help." Her eyes widened. Now she knew for a fact that something was wrong. He never called her 'Sis' unless something bad happened. This time when Jason spoke, he began to cry. "Please help her. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do sis. Please just help her! I don't know what to do."

Jason tenderly looked at the bundle in his arms as he handed the bundle to Helena. When Helena carefully took the bundle from Jason, she felt something wet and sticky. Again her eyes widened, she knew what it was...blood. Which meant that something alive, wounded or something was dead in her arms right now.

Running back into the house, Helena turned on all the lights and quickly unwrapped the bundle. In her arms was a baby bear, no more than few months old, which laid limp and bloody. Around the baby bears chest was a poorly wrapped bandage. Bringing her ear closer to the bear's mouth, Helena could hear the slow and weak breath of the baby bear.

"Maiara is teaching you medicine right? So you can help her. Right Sis?" Jason spoke from her side, sounding like he was trying to convince himself.

Helena looked at her brother's hopeful eyes, before she replied, "Jason the stuff I am learning is only herbal stuff and I am no vet...but I think I have enough skills to patch her up until we can find a vet that helps wild life animals. I need your help though."

She knew that she should not have said those things without looking at the wound first, but she did not want to see her twin's depressed face. Jason nodded his head ready for any orders she was about to give.

Quickly telling Jason what she needed and what she might need, as she ran into their small bathroom, grabbing all the towels that she could carry with one hand since she was cradleing the baby bear in the other. Reaching the dinner table, Helena used her hand that held the towels to push their school stuff on a chair. Then covered the dinner table with the towels. Laying down the baby bear, Jason rushed over to them and laid everything out. Sitting down next to Helena, Jason flipped open the laptop to look up bear anatomy. Helena was terrified! Not only for the baby bear, but because she did not know what she was doing! Because of that this little bear was going to die right in front of her.

*God please help me save the baby bear. You have never answered me in the past, but I need a merricle.*

Unwrapping the bandage, Helena felt even worse for the baby bear. A stab wound was on the baby bear's chest. She already knew that mankind was cruel, but this! This was just monstrous!

Opening her gray herbal bag, she started looking for a certain snake venom.

The front door opened, revealing Aditsan and Maiara walking in. Jason jumped when he sawed Aditsan coming into the cabin.

*What happened with those two? And Maiara?! What was she doing here! I have nothing ready for her arrival!*

Maiara walked over to Helena and told her, "I will take care of this. You will be my assistant"

"Jason." Aditsan said sternly.

Helena did not want to eavesdrop on them, instead she focused on what she could do to help Maiara save the baby bear.

The surgery took many hours. Jason sat on the living room couch, nervously shaking his leg. Helena sat by him rubbing his back, trying to relax him while Aditsan sat on his rocking chair. Maiara had dismissed Helena from helping her, seeing that Jason needed his sister more, about 30 minutes ago. In that time Jason and Aditsan told her what had happened.

When Aditsan and Jason found the poachers. They were not killing for money, but for the pleasure of it. Jason saved Helena from the details of it knowing that Helena loved animals to much, but he told her this. The baby bear was the only surviving cub while the mother bear laid dying, beyond saving. Jason believed that the baby bear could be saved, but Aditsan believed that the baby bear could not be saved. Instead they should end its suffering, but Jason did not want to hear it. He wrapped up the baby bear in his shirt and took off in the truck that he came with. Aditsan knew that Maiara was around the area helping someone from their tribe so he thought that maybe Maiara could help the baby bear.

Her twin also told her what was tied around his leather neckless. On the neckless was two of the baby bear's mother's claws. Making a promise to the mother bear, to try to save her last surviving cub. He cut two of the mother's claws, so that if he broke that promise, the mother bear could bring ill will to him.

"How could people do this?" Helena asked not in sadness, but in anger at mankind. That was when Maiara walked in with the baby bear in her arms and answered.

"There is evil in all of us. It all depends on what wolf you feed. Do you feed the wolf of chaos or do you feed the wolf of harmony?" Walking over to Jason, Maiara gently handed the cub to him. Once Jason took the baby bear, Maiara told him. "She will be fine. Now Dakotah, you must realize that you saved this cub's life, therefore, you must take care of her and raise her.

Jason nodded his head 'yes' while looking at the bear cub. Speaking to the sleeping cub, Jason talked smoothly, "I am going to call you Honey because of your honey colored fur and because I have heard bears like honey."

Helena smiled at the both of them, from Jason looking at Honey like she was his daughter.

Honey grew very attached to Jason and him to her. She loved Helena too, but nothing like Jason. When Honey wanted Jason, she would plop on the ground, throw her head back and yell something that sounded like 'MA!'

Jason spoiled her rotten. He bought her a paddle pool, a doll and bought fabric so Helena could make Honey a blanket. It was no surprise he bought fabrics with Winne the Pooh on them.

He even took her places, in a car seat! That even included taking Honey to his job, working as a farm hand, picking whatever was in season. The bear cub would sit on his shoulders or walk beside him. One of the problems he found when he brought Honey to work with him. Was that whatever Jason was supposed to be picking, Honey would be eating it. Even though Helena loved Honey, she had to be the one who was strict with her. Since Jason wanted to be the fun one, all ways spoiling her rotten!

It was always fun and funny doing house work with Honey around. When Helena had to clean the floors, Honey would sit on her back, like she was getting a piggy back ride and when she gathered eggs from the chicken coop, Honey would be right at her heels because she was terrified of the chickens. Not just the chickens, but also the baby chickens! It was comical! Being scared of little baby chickens! HA!

When it was bed time. Jason and Helena would put their beds together then used pillows from the living room couch to fill in the crack were the beds meet. That way Honey could sleep in-between them.

Jason being 'papa bear', he would tuck her in with her blanket, her doll and a bed time story of old native American tales that was told to them by Aditsan when they were younger. If Honey could not sleep, Jason would rock her to sleep in Aditsan's rocking chair.

As time wore on, realization kicked in. Honey was getting bigger, she could barely walk through the doors because of her size. Soon they would have to find another home for her. If there was any time that Helena was happy for Honey to be an almost full grown adult, it was the time when she had a not so friendly visitor.

Helena was finishing cleaning up the kitchen, While Jason and Aditsan went hunting to refill their meat supply. No longer being able to be in the kitchen with Helena because of her size, Honey laid down next to the dinner table, where she normally ate, eating a pineapple as a special treat.

A load cry came from the chickens outside. It was not uncommon that a wolverine or a fox would try to break into the chicken coop. That was one of the reason why Aditsan had taught her how to use and respect guns. She did not want to kill the intruder though, just scare it away. Running over to the front door closet, Helena pulled out the 4 barrel shotgun and turned off the safety. Fully expecting it to be one of their normal intruders, Helena kicked open the door to add the extra scare, then shot at the ground.

If this was one of their normal intruders, that would have worked. This time that was not the case. A fully grown mountain lion was their intruder this time who had successfully broken into the chicken coop. With one of their best laying hens lying dead in his mouth. He was not scared at all, instead he looked pissed. Mountain lions never came around these parts. Aditsan wouldn't have thought about telling her what to do if one of them came to have a nice 'friendly' visit with the chickens. With one of their best laying hens still lying dead in the mountain lion's mouth, he growled at Helena. That was when Helena did what you are never supposed to do in front of a predatory animal, especially if it was pissed at you. Run.

Dropping the shotgun, Helena turned back around to run back inside the house. Instead she ran right into Honey. Honey was standing on her hind legs. Completely casting a shadow over Helena. If Helena thought the mountain lion look was intimidating, it was nothing compared to Honey's appearance.

Honey had completely blocked the entry way in to the house. Not knowing what else to do, Helena again did another thing you were not supposed to do; she sat on the ground, facing the mountain lion. Again the mountain lion growled. Not willing to be out done by the mountain lion, Honey roared so loudly that spit came out of her mouth and Helena had to cover her ears.

The mountain lion sprinted out of there with the dead hen still in his mouth, but not without Honey going back on all 4 paws and chased after the mountain lion into the forest.

Quickly getting off the ground, Helena ran back on to the porch and looked back.

"Honey come back! It's not worth it!" Helena called out.

Fighting sounds between a bear and a mountain lion could heard from the forest. When Honey did come back, she had the dead hen that the mountain lion had. Placing the dead hen at Helena's feet, Honey sat down. Waiting for Helena to pick it up. Picking up the dead hen by its feet. Helena spoke. "Looks like we are having chicken tonight."

No more than 2 weeks later. The event that the twins were dreading, happened.

Helena and Jason still pulled their beds together so that Honey could sleep with them. The only difference now was that, Honey took up both of the beds. What Honey would do to make sure that the twins still were with her is she would hold them while they all slept. That gave a whole new meaning to 'bear hug'

Aditsan walked into the twin's room to wake them up. He smiled lovingly at the 3 of them. "Alright! Time to wake up my wolf pups!" He said while clapping. The 3 of them all wined.

Jason wined, "11 more minutes."

"Please." Helena finished.

Honey grunted, agreeing with them.

"No, no it's time to wake up. There is something we all need to talk about."

Protesting a little more, the 3 of the got up.

They were all eating at the dinner table, eating eggs and toast while Honey ate 7 apples, mixed salad and different types of nuts topped off with a small amount of honey. Taking a drink from his black cup of coffee, Aditsan spoke to both of the twins that sat together.

"We all knew that this was going to happen. It's time to look for a new home for Honey. She has grown too accustomed to humans to release her back into the wild."

The sounds of forks stopped moving from the twins. Both of the twins looked up at Aditsan with uncertainty.

Sensing the tension from the twins, Honey put an apple in her mouth and walked over to sit in-between the twins.

"I have been looking around trying to find a good place for her." As Aditsan spoke, Jason began to rub Honey's head. "I spoke to one of my friends at the zoo to see if they are willing to take her. Lucky they have room to take her and are happy to have her."

From the corner of eye, Helena seen Jason's hand turn into a fist underneath the table and covered his hand with her own to try to sooth him.

"When do we take her?" Helena asked Aditsan.

Taking another sip from his coffee, he answered, "Tomorrow morning."

Jason got up from the table and went outside with Honey trailing behind him. Helena could tell that Aditsan was upset from seeing Jason upset from having Honey leave them. Getting up from her chair, Helena walked behind Aditsan and hugged him around his shoulders and kissed the top of his head. Aditsan smiled, patting her on her arm.

The zoo said that they could visit Honey any time they want for free and Jason made sure Honey got to keep her doll and blanket. He even did a little interrogating on the zoo keeper who would be taking care of her. One of the hardest things she has ever done was leave Honey behind while she was calling out to the both of them, but most of all Jason. "MA!"

The twins visited her whenever they could. When Honey saw them coming she would run over to the door where her zoo keep entered though. Once they were in, Honey would pretty much grab them and held them for a long time. Months after Honey went to live in the zoo, she was entered into the breeding program. She ended up having two cubs of her own. When the cubs were old enough to move around, Honey would let the twins play with them.

One time when they visited, the cubs charged at them ready to play. Making sure that the cubs were safe and sound, Honey went in to her little cave and fell asleep.

Jason had smiled and said to Helena, "I guess that makes us the babysitters?"

They visited Honey and her cubs up until Aditsan passed away.

-End of Flashback-

Helena was mentally exhausted from the random flashbacks she was having. Pulling her hood over her head, she laid down on the cot and folded her arms around herself trying to lock away the memories again. Hearing twigs being stepped on outside of the tent. She quickly slid her hand underneath the pillow, were she hid one of the daggers that Daryl had given her. Realizing it was Daryl and not a walker, she let go of the dagger.

Daryl walked into the tent with his plate of food. Sitting down on his cot, he finished eating. Sliding the plate underneath the cot, he began sucking on his fingers to get the grease off.

So she would not have to watch him suck his fingers again, Helena rolled over facing the wall.

*No man should be able to make that look sexy!*

Noticing that Helena had looked away from him, like the time when she had given him squirrel meat. He asked her angrily, "Got a problem with how I eat?!"

Mumbling to herself she responded, "I wish that was the reason."

"Wha'?" Daryl said, not hearing what she was mumbling.

Rolling back over facing Daryl, she replied, "I was just giving you space so you can eat or do you like people staring at you while you eat?"

"No." Daryl answered flatly.

"So see? I was just doing you a favor." Helena said proudly. Happy that she was able to escape that one. Until Daryl looked at her with a calculating look along with a smirk.

*Why do I feel like I just stepped into a hole where I can't get out of?*

"Speakin' of favors, I a reckon ya still owe me one." Daryl told her.

"Um, yes." Helena said with unease.

"I'm thinkin' that I'm gonna be using that favor real soon." He told her, still with a smirk and a calculating look.

Sitting up Helena asked, again with unease, "Like for what?"

"That all depends on ya. Are ya goin' to tell me why your head was in the clouds back there. No lyin' by the way."

*Damn He really put me in a bind! If I don't tell him willingly, he is going to use that favor against me! If I do tell him, I will end up balling my eyes out! Although if I do tell him, I can use up that favor.*

"What if I gave you two more favors for not asking me this?" She begged.

Leaning closer to her, he asked her, "So you're a liar then?"

Fighting with herself if to tell him or not. She decided to tell him thinking that maybe Rick was right. Maybe she would heal a little more if she talked to Daryl about Jason. Taking a deep breath, Helena grabbed her backpack that was by her bed and took out the picture of Jason. Helena always confused herself with Jason's passing. She wanted to keep Jason with her so she would not forget him, that's why she didn't talk about him, but yet memories of him she wanted to be locked away because they were painful.

*Maybe I should have seen a therapist.*

Sitting down next to Daryl, she handed him the picture of her brother. "I was thinking about him. My twin brother Jason."

Daryl took the picture and looked at it. Helena told him everything about Jason and some good memories, but nothing about her birth parents or working at the club. She was surprised that she could not keep her mouth shut. Maybe it was because it was Daryl she was talking to?

He listened, asking only a few questions. One of those questions had make her stop being talkative. "Wha' happened to him?" Daryl asked

"He… He died." Helena replied sadly.

"How?"

*Oh why couldn't he leave it at 'he died'!*

"I...I don't know." Helena sadly said.

Daryl looked at her more intently than he had before. "Wha' ya mean ya don't know?"

Anxiety coursed through her. She needed to stop talking about this now! Helena jumped up and went over to her cot that she was borrowing. Laying down, she told Daryl while trying to keep her tears at bay. "I don't want to talk about this anymore Daryl"

Daryl got off his cot and stood over her cot. He told her, "It's not that hard of a question." Anger rose in Daryl from her not answering him and once again even caring!

Helena responded angrily, "Well for me it is!"

"I'm lettin' ya use my space an-" Before he could finish, Helena got off the bed and stood in the door way

When they meet eye contact, Helena told him in anger mix with sadness, "Because there was no body! Just blood! Lots and lots of blood!" She also wanted to say that she could no longer feel the connection she had with her brother, but with the tears streaming down her cheeks and the sob stuck in her throat, she was unable to.

Daryl felt like a worthless piece of shit. He knew he should have never have asked her how her brother died. Hell he was still upset about Merle, even though his brother might still be alive. He could tell that she had a very close bond with her brother. So it must have been hard to talk to him about it. He could not help himself! He wanted to know more about her!

He was no good at comforting people, but he wanted to try just for her. "Um…" Was all he could come up with as he reached out to her, until Helena ran off. Being way more pissed at himself, Daryl kicked anything he could find.

Helena ran through camp not really paying any attention to where she was going. She ended up in Glenn's tent. As she entered his tent, Helena threw herself on the ground and curled into a ball, letting all of her tears pour out. Glenn instantly woke up, when he heard something enter his tent. Once he found Helena on the floor crying. He relaxed since it was not a walker, but now he was worried about his friend. He had never seen her like this. She was always the strong one and always ready to help someone. Ever since he had first meet her. Even though that was only about 3 days, Glenn thought that he had a good sense of Helena's charter.

"Helena?" Glenn said quietly.

Helena momentarily stopped crying and looked up at Glenn. Wiping away her tears with the sleeve of her hoodie, she sat up and said, "I am so sorry Glenn. I was not paying attention to where I was going. Go back to sleep, I am never like this."

As she was about to get off the ground to leave, Glenn stopped her by placing his hand on her shoulder and said to her kindly, "You can stay here if you want."

Nodding her 'yes', Glenn handed her a spare pillow that he had. Laying back down, Helena rested her head on the pillow. Then let some of her tears out.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Glenn asked

Shaking her head 'no', Helena closed her eyes and told Glenn before she fell asleep, "Thank you Glenn. You're a good friend."

If Glenn did reply, Helena did not hear it because she fell right to sleep. Wishing that she hadn't because you dreams were full of nightmares.

-Dream/Flashback-

Helena was painting at her art easel, trying to forget her worrying over her brother.

Jason had left almost a full month ago to Mexico. A cave full of precious stones was for sale down there. He already owned 4 caves that provided him with the gems and stones for his jewelry business, so it was normal for him to check out some caves down there. What was not normal was that he had not called her for his regular check-ins. The only phone call she got from him was when he called her telling her that he checked into the hotel. It was weird not having Jason around, so it was nice having him check in on her.

Dipping her brush in brown paint, to begin painting the bark of the tree. She didn't have enough time to paint the trees outline, before a staggering pain went through her neck. The paint brush dropped to the ground, spilling paint along with it. Her hands flew to her neck, as if she was trying to stop blood from coming out of it. Falling backwards onto the floor along with her painting easel. Helena tried her best to breath. Her eyes rolled to the back of her head, from not enough oxygen getting into her brain.

In her mind years had passed before she could breath, but her neck was now throbbing with pain. Staggering on to her feet, Helena went into the bathroom and looked into the mirror. A big red line was formed on her neck like...her neck had been slashed.

*Jason!*

She stood completely still trying to feel her connection that she shared with her twin, but she felt nothing. It was like someone took a pair of scissors and cut her connection with her twin. Her fear for her brother only grew.

Deseeding that she was going to hire a good lawyer and a private investigator, then fly down to Mexico to find her brother. Getting ahold of one of her best clients back when she was a dancer. She asked him for some recommendations. She knew she was asking the right man, because he was a prince from the Middle East. He even went as far as to pay for a plane ticket and send a bodyguard with her. Helena never heard of a client who went this far for his dancer; a retired dancer at that.

Once reaching Mexico, they all checked into a hotel. They made her stay at the hotel since she was too emotional to be of any help. Having not eaten and slept in days, Helena couldn't argue with them.

One of the first things they found out was that the cave Jason was thinking of buying, was fake, it did not exist. It wasn't until a week later that her worst fear happened. Helena got a call from her lawyer saying that they found Jason. Without getting dressed, Helena drove to where they found Jason.

Using the directions that her lawyer gave her, she found herself driving into a rainforest. Still in her Pjs, Helena hopped out of her rental car and looked at her surroundings. All over the place police men were running around of talking to each other. She did not find her brother among them, but what she did find was his red truck, surrounded by crime scene tape. Without thinking Helena walked towards Jason's red truck, that was when the police finally noticed her. They began yelling at her, but she couldn't understand them because they were speaking Spanish. Her lawyer stopped talking to one of the detectives to see what was going on, finding Helena walking to the red truck, and sprinted over to her. Stopping in front of her and laid his hands on her shoulders. He said in a calming manner, "I am sorry, but could you please return to your car? There has been a miscommunication."

Raising one of her eyebrows, Helena asked, "What miscommunication?"

Before the lawyer could say anything, a load argument rang out catching Helena's attention. Looking over to her right, a police car was parked. One of the back doors was wide open with two detectives standing around the open door arguing with someone in the back seat. Catching a quick glimpse at the man sitting in the back seat. Helena guessed he was around his early 30's, average height for a Mexican male. He was acting like he was mentally insane. What had caught her off guard was that the man was covered in blood, blood that was not his own.

The lawyer realized that she had found the man in the back seat of the police car. He tried to distract her back into her car, but Helena would not let him, she stood firm in place.

The man in the back seat began to laugh hysterically, letting everyone know that he had lost his grip on reality. Still laughing, the man pointed at the hal of Jason's truck.

"Helena please return to your car and go back to the hotel." Her lawyer said sternly.

"Where's my brother?" Helena asked with fear in her voice.

The lawyer said nothing as a deep sadness and regret rested in his eyes. Again Helena ran towards her twin's truck. With the police force again yelling at her. Opening the hal of the truck, blood pooled out and splashed onto Helena. Helena went into a shocked state, still holding onto the hal door. The police force who were yelling at her and were about to chase her, stopped; surprised at how much blood poured out.

Helena cried and screamed as she took off her shirt. Kneeling onto the ground with her shirt in hand she began to wipe up the blood thinking that her brother could come back to life if she just cleaned up the blood. She did not need anyone to tell her that this was her brother's blood, a twin just knows. No one tried to stop her as she continued to clean up the blood with her shirt. The man who was still in the back seat and laughing, started clapping and swinging his legs.

Her hand caught something long and beady. Picking it up, Helena cleaned it off on her pant leg, since her night shirt no longer held its white color. What she had found was her brother's onyx and cateye choker neckless that he always wore with his bear claw neckless. Helena sobbed louder as she held the neckless to her heart.

When her lawyer did walk over to her, Helena asked him, "Did he kill my brother?"

Sighing, the lawyer kneeled down next to her. He did not need to think about who she was talking about. "They believe he did. They found some human bone fragments stuck inbetween the teeth of a knife he had on him."

This when Helena looked at her lawyer, her eyes were soulless. "Why?" Helena asked

"Money, he and his little gang knew that he carried around lots of money with him, when he went shopping for caves. They decided to kidnap him and try to get more money out of him. When you brother didn't give them what they wanted, the man over there was ordered to kill him."

*Jason knew that if he did give them their bank account number, we would be broke. They would have killed him both ways. In the end he was just trying to protect me.*

Tying her brother's choker neckless around her neck, Helena laid down in all the blood, knowing that this would be the last time that she would ever be close to him physically. Her mental state of mind at that moment was broken. Her mind did not tell her this was disgusting or wrong so she continued to lay there, still shedding tears and sobs.

-End of dream and flash back-

It was the morning where they all left to the CDC, well almost everyone. They all said their goodbyes to Morales and his family. Helena still had the same thoughts from when she first watched this part. Morales and his family were stupid for leaving! There was beyond a very good chance that the rest of their family were eaten by walkers or if they were half lucky, they would be among the dead. Plus having only one hand gun with 6 left over bullets? That spelled you were fucked and stupid! She did not say anything on her opinion of them leaving as she said her own goodbyes.

Today she decided to wear the summer dress again. It felt and looked odd having a summer dress on with hiking boots, but until she could find some tennis shoes this would have to do.

Dale was kind enough to let her store the furs, bones, and her herbal bag into his R.V. Since the car she wanted to ride in would not have a lot of room for all of her stuff. He couldn't even pack up the two cots along with his large tent, in the hal of his truck because of his brother's motorcycle.

When it was time to head out, Helena walked over to Daryl's truck. She could tell that he was surprised about her hopping into his truck. His truck smelled like cigarettes which she didn't mind. Setting her backpack in between herself and Daryl she looked around the car a little more. Helena could tell that the truck had been used a lot. By the rips in the leather and the peeling carpet on the floor.

Daryl was about to ask her what she was doing in his truck, until Rick walked up to Helena.

Since the window was rolled down, Helena rested her arms on the railing and began to joke around with Rick "Hey there Sheriff! What can I do for ya?"

Chuckling Rick replied, "I was wondering if you wanted to ride with us. The kids also wanted you to ride with us, so you could tell them some more Native American stories on the road."

Helena laughed because she swore that Rick was almost begging for her to ride with them. "Tell my wolf pups that I will tell them as many Native American stories as they want once we reach the CDC."

Looking over at Daryl, she told Rick in a joking tone of voice. "I found me a good lookin' man! So I am staying right here!" When Helena said 'good looking man'. She raised her eyebrows up and down a few times.

Shaking his head with a grin on his face, Rick told her as he walked over to the car that he will be driving. "Buckle up and stay safe Helena!"

Smiling and looking back at Rick she yelled, "I will! I got Daryl!"

Laughing a little bit more with herself. She looked back at Daryl a little nervously.

"Hey um, I am sorry about last night. You were just asking a question and I totally freaked out on you and that was not right. So to make things somewhat right. I am going to answer you without the freaking out part."

Daryl's point of view

He was again surprised, because if anyone had to apologize, it was him. He had pushed her too far. Starting up the truck, he drove, following the others. "Ya don't have ta." He offered.

Shaking her head 'no', Helena told him, "No, I have to. I am not ready to let him go, but it's time that I talked about him. First I will tell you about when he went missing."

Daryl was focused on the road with both hands on the steering wheel, but he let her know that he was still listening to her by quickly looking at her from the corner of his eye..

Taking a deep breath, Helena started "He went missing when I was 23. Which was 2 years ago."

*Two years ago!? That was the last time I spoke to the old lady."

His hands tightened on the steering wheel while he bit the inside of his lip. He wanted very badly to say this was all coincidence. Thinking about what she just told him. Another thought came to him that he said out load "Yer 25!"

Helena laughed, finding it funny that he was surprised by her age. "Gee Daryl. You sure know how to make a girl feel good about her age."

*Damn she's young. There is no way this girl was made for me!* When he thought that. The animalistic voice came back and yelled. *She is MINE! Age means SHIT!*

Helena helped him silence the animalistic voice by asking him, "How old are you?"

"34." He answered a little grumpily.

"You are making it sound like you are an old man when you're not. We are only 9 years apart." Helena commented.

After saying that, Helena spoke about Jason's death. There was a few minutes of silence after Helena got done talking about Jason's death. Daryl was still focused on the road, chewing on one of his finger nails. While Helena was dying to listen to some up beat music.

"Hey Daryl is it alright if I listen to some music?" She asked while looking at him.

Taking a quick look at her then back at the road he replied, "Radios broke. Besides there ain't no more radio channels. Ya know because of the walkers."

Rolling her eyes with a smirk on her face, Helena pulled out her iPod from her backpack. "That's fine, I have my iPod." Helena said, waving the iPod in the air.

Still looking at the road, Daryl told her, "No lovey dovey shit."

Helena laughed as she pulled out her head sets and scrolled though her library of music. "Ok, no problem. How about this one?"

Setting down her iPod in the cup holder, Helena hit play on the song she wanted to listen to. The song she selected was 'Shake it off' by Taylor Swift.

Daryl thought she was going to listen to it, but nope he was wrong. He did his best to hide the smirk growing on his face. From Helena trying to sing along with the song.

*Damn good thing she did not become a singer.*

Even if she was a bad singer, at least she was on beat. The one thing he badly wanted to do, was pull her on top of him. So she could do that hip thing she was doing on his hardening cock. The way she moved her hips side to side, back and forth then a full circle made him think she had done some type of dancing before. By the way her hips went with the beat.

Helena was not just moving her hips though. She was rolling her shoulders and clicking her fingers along with the beat. He now found himself licking his lips.

*Focus on the road! Damn it! Why did I let her into my car!*

What Helena did next did not help him by any means. When the song sung the part 'I'm just gonna shake to the fella over there' She rested her head on his shoulder and shook her hips against his own. Then moved away laughing.

Daryl dug his nails into the steering wheel. If he did not get out of this car soon, he was going to cum in his pants!

*Does this woman know what she is doing to me?* Daryl guessed she did not by the look on her face.

A car horn from the R.V honked, signaling that they needed to pull over.

*Good! I need the distraction!*

Pulling over, Daryl picked up his cross bow that was lying next to him in his seat. Opening the car door, he went to go see what the problem was.

Helena's point of View

*I wonder what's wrong with him.* Shrugging her shoulders, Helena put her iPod back into her bag and jumped out of the truck, walking over to the R.V were she knew some of the others would be.

"What's going on?" Helena asked once she got close enough to them.

Rick looked at Helena with a hopeful look and answered "Hose broke. Dale can't jury-rig it any more. Do you think you can do anything with it? You seem to be handy with tech and stuff."

Nodding her head 'no' Helena explained, "I am not handy with cars or with tech. The toy car idea was originally my brother's idea that I luckily remembered."

"I wouldn't worry too much Helena, because I can see something up ahead. A gas station if we are lucky." Shane said.

Jacqui came running out of the R.V and over to them urgently telling them, "Y'all, Jim, it's bad. I don't think he can take anymore." With that Jacqui ran back to the R.V. Andrea and Rick both had down cast looks from hearing about Jim. Dale watched Jacqui run back into the R.V, While Daryl sort of paced around.

Shane told Rick more than he asked "Hey Rick, you want to hold down the fort? I'll drive ahead, see what I can bring back."

Still looking thought the binoculars, T-dog added, "Yeah, I will come along too and I'll back you up."

Helena was about to offer to go with them, so they could gather more supplies, but Daryl sent her a glare that said 'don't you even think about it. Want me to have to save your ass again?'

Sending a glare right back at him that said 'guess what? You don't own me and I am going!'

Having gotten what her glare meant, Daryl smirked at her, as if he was challenging her to try to go with them.

*When did Daryl get this bold! It's only season one!*

Right as Helena was about to tell Shane that she would go with them. She realized that they had already left! Looking back at Daryl, Helena found that his smirk only grew.

*He is so out of character, that is so not funny!*

Helena knew that Rick would start talking about Jim, until Shane came back. In the mean time she decided to start working on some projects until that time came. She started working on the base of Daryl's bag that she wanted to make for him.

When Rick did come out of the R.V to tell the group what Jim wanted to do. Helena thought about Daryl. Mainly his behavior towards her. She did not want to be arguing with him! Daryl still was her favorite character and secretly her crush.

*Urg, why did he have to shoot a bolt though my heart?!*

"And I think we have an answer" Helena heard Dale say.

Rick thought to himself for a moment. Then turned to look at Helena who was standing next to him and asked her, "Your thoughts?"

*wow I got to the adviser role quickly.*

Looking back at Rick she gave him her opinion, without forgetting the fact that Jim was still a threat to her. Even if the group just would think he was not in his right state of mind and also needing to stay in the story line.

"I am having conflicting feelings. In one way I agree with Dale about doing what Jim wants, but on the other hand. Can we really just leave Jim? Letting him turn into a walker, so he can make other walkers, but then didn't we all agree that we don't kill the living? I don't have a one way view on this one. I will support you with whatever you decide, that I am positive on and confidently say."

Rick went back to thinking again as he looked back at the group.

Helena slumped her shoulders back against the R.V and closed her eyes. Daryl, who was on the other side of her, huffed and told her, making sure no one else could hear, "Ain't no time to be nappin'."

Chuckling softly, Helena whispered back with a smile. "I am not napping. I am resting my eyes."

Daryl smirked as he looked back at the others. "Wha' the hell did ya do to Lori? That bitch's glarin' daggers at ya."

Opening her eyes to see what Daryl was talking about, Helena found Lori glaring her down. *What did I ever do to her?* Paying no mind to Lori's glares, Helena looked at Daryl and said, "I have no idea, but right now I have other crap to deal with. Now if I remember correctly, you said you would teach me how to throw daggers. So how about we have a small lesson until they need us?"

Daryl raised one of his eye brows in question and asked, "Now?"

Helena smirked, using a line against him. She said "So you're a liar then?"

Smirking again at Helena's wit, Daryl told her, "Go grab 'em. I'll be waitin' by that tree over there."

Looking where he was pointing, Helena found a big oak tree that was close to his truck. Smiling Helena ran over to the truck for her backpack were she kept her daggers.
