Chapter 6
AN: Just a warning that there's a fight in this chapter, so if you like, don't condone fighting or something then don't press on, but it's not that intense or anything so, yeah. Enjoy.
A few days had passed since the incident. He hadn't gone to meet Louis on Tuesday or Wednesday. It was Thursday now, and of course Harry told Niall all about the make out session.
"And how was that?" Niall asked with caution.
"It was actually kind of amazing."
"Hm." Niall replied...sort of.
"I know it sounds stupid, but I just couldn't stop myself...at first that is. Then I had no problem stopping it after he got to tell me his idiotic reasoning behind being a total jackass for 3 years." Harry said slyly putting a chip in his mouth.
"So do you like him?" Niall asked bluntly.
"Man, did you just hear what I said?"
"Yeah, you stopped making out with your bully after allowing him to stick his tongue down your throat."
"Woah, hey I-"
"Yeah yeah you came to your senses or whatever but you did enjoy it in the moment, right?"
"Well...yeah but I-"
"You enjoyed it." Niall interrupted again.
"Okay fine, I enjoyed it, for a minute." Harry agreed, "But so what?"
"So you must like him, I mean, you wouldn't have allowed it to go on at all if he completely repulsed you." Niall said, obviously feeling like a wise therapist.
Harry sat there in silence for a moment, gathering his thoughts on the matter.
"Maybe I do like him." He finally said.
"Yep."
"But I shouldn't! How could I possibly have any sort of warm feelings for a guy who has treated me like garbage for 3 whole years?!" Harry shouted in a hushed tone.
"Love works in mysterious ways." Is the first reply to come out of Niall's mouth.
"What?! I don't love him!" Harry raised his voice, but only enough for Niall to hear.
"Okay, calm down, Romeo. So are you gonna tutor him anymore?" Niall nonchalantly added.
"I don't know." Harry looked down at his drink.
"Well I think you should."
"Why?" Harry looked to Niall waiting for a logical answer.
"Because you have to talk about it."
"Thanks, Dr. Phil." Harry sarcastically remarked.
"Seriously, you do. You need to talk it over. Yes, I think he's the scum of the Earth and I would gladly kick his ass any day, but this is a really big issue and it needs to be discussed between the two of you." Niall advised.
"What if I never want to see him again?"
"Then don't. But are you honestly telling me you never want to see him again?"
Harry sighed and took a sip of his soda that he had neglected during this cheerful conversation. "No."
"There we have it then, mate. You know what you have to do."
Harry didn't see Louis around that day. He did, however, see Steven and took a swift shove into a locker, but it wasn't that bad. A small bruise on his left shoulder at most.
Friday rolled around once again and Harry still hadn't decided if he wanted to meet Louis at Mrs. Johnson's room after school or not. He wasn't even sure that he would be there.
It was gym now. Harry was walking the track when the ever so lovely Jeremy and Steven decided to intrude.
"What's up, wanker? Haven't seen you around as much. We've missed you." Steven mocked in a condescending tone.
Harry was tired of all this. Tired of being beaten up and pushed around all the time. Tired of being scared of idiots who obviously have nothing better to do with their time. And after finding out their so called leader was only targeting him because he liked him, it's all a joke to Harry. It's pathetic and there's no reason to deal with it anymore.
"Fuck off." Harry said angrily.
"What did you just say, cunt?"
Harry turned to face them, "I said 'fuck off'. I'm tired of this bullshit and I'm tired of you."
The bullies just stood there with angry faces.
"I mean," Harry continued, obviously on a rant now, "Why the hell must you make my life miserable? I've never done anything to either of you, you're both just sick bastards who obviously are too idiotic to respond to people with anything but rage. Can't you just leave me the fuck alone, and get a life?!"
The two of them just stood there a minute, looking at Harry, and their faces only showed more anger.
"You're going down, twat." Jeremy said matter-of-factly.
Harry threw down his backpack and got ready to fight them. Steven came at him first and Harry punched him as hard as he could in the stomach. Steven let out a grunt then hit Harry in the arm with little force, seeing as how we was bent over trying to heal from the punch. Jeremy decided he was needed and kicked Harry in the shin. Harry had had worse and just grit his teeth, and tried his best to punch one of them in the face. He hit Jeremy's jaw which seemed to be affective, because Jeremy had backed off for a second to regain focus. Harry, seeing this as an opportunity to strike his other opponent, slammed his head into Steven's nose. That one hurt him pretty bad. Jeremy had come back to defend his friend and pushed Harry hard enough to make him fall backward onto the ground and scuff up Harry's arm. Jeremy and Steven had stepped closer, looking down at Harry furiously and Steven kicked him hard in the stomach making Harry let out a grunt of pain. Just as they were about to attack again there was a voice that cut through the air.
"Oi! Back off!" Yelled Louis, coming up from behind them.
"What?" Steven asked with such a confusion.
"Did you want to join?" Jeremy smirked.
"No! Stop! Just leave him alone."
"What the hell is up with you?" Steven asked, with a disgruntled expression, obviously not getting the sudden change of heart for the kid laying on the ground.
"Nothing, just leave him alone, he's had enough."
"Since when are you all buddy buddy with the nerd?"
"Since now, and I swear to God, if you don't leave him alone I will make both of your lives a living hell, and trust me, I can do that." Louis added with such force, a sense of authority was present in his voice that obviously got across to Jeremy and Steven.
They looked at Louis with angry faces but didn't try anything.
"Come on, man, these two aren't worth our time." Jeremy said to Steven and they both walked off with scowls.
Louis watched them go and once they were far enough away he lost the bravado and ran to meet Harry who was still laying there collecting himself from the previous kick to the gut.
"God damn it, Harry, I am so sorry. This is all on me and I can never repay you for the fucked up things I've done." Louis knelt down to be at level with the boy.
"I know you think I'm horrible and that I'm the last person in the world you would ever consider getting along with. I get that. It makes perfect sense."
Harry was just sitting there listening to the boy beside him with such heavy emotion in his words as if every syllable stung his throat.
"But Harry, I just have to tell you I really really like you and I'm the worst person in the world, but I would spend every day trying my damn best to make it up to you." Louis added, barely stopping to breathe until the last word.
Harry looked up at Louis, who was obviously being sincere. He felt a bittersweetness for this terribly upset and troubled kid.
Before he could really even think about it, Harry darted towards Louis and kissed him. Louis was obviously taken aback but then gave into it and kissed him back, rather hard, with an intensity that made it seem like he thought if he let go of Harry he would lose him.
Harry lingered in the kiss before pulling away and saying to Louis, "I know, you have done horrible horrible things and I've hated you for them. But that isn't you, I know you. You're the guy who comes home to his sisters and plays games with them and eats dinner at a table and helps clean the dishes."
Louis stared at Harry as he spoke, with an obvious pain in his eyes.
"I have spent my time so scared of you, but I shouldn't be. Because I know you now, the real you. And it isn't this bully who attacks people because they're what you don't want to be. And I think you know that now, and that's good."
"Does this mean you forgive me?" Louis asked with such a weight to his words.
"Not exactly." Harry replied, "You still did all those things and it'll be a long time before I can even consider forgiving you for all of them."
"Yeah, you're right, I get it."
"But I do like you." Harry added.
"You do?" Louis jumped to the question eagerly.
"Yes, I shouldn't," Harry mentioned sternly, "But I do."
Louis smiled at that.
"Now what?" Louis asked.
"No clue." Harry replied.
They sat there on the track ground in silence for a minute.
"I agree, you know. It makes sense it'll take time for you to forgive me for the way I've treated you in the past. But I promise, I'll never be that way again. I was...scared, and acted out on it but I'm fine now. I've come to terms with who I am." Louis stated.
"Good." Harry replied, not sure what to say, because his brain wanted to act in reason and logic, but his gut wanted to kiss the boy again. Stupid teenage hormones. Harry thought.
"Will you go out with me?" Harry blurted out before he could stop himself.
Louis sat in surprise for a moment then came to life with, "Seriously?"
"No, sorry I don't know what I was thinking." Harry said quickly, trying to cover up his mistake.
"No, wait. I want to. I really want to. You know that. And I know you like me, you told me just now. I think we should."
"Of course you think we should, but I'm the one you've treated like dirt this whole time-"
"Because I liked you, because I still like you. And I'm sorry and you know that but we both like each other and I think going out would be great for us. To actually talk."
"What if I just think I like you because you're the first to actually grind up against me?" Harry added, trying to find reason behind his crush on this kid who obviously doesn't deserve the light of day from him.
"You mean you've never-"
"Uh...no." Harry blushed, hating himself for giving that away but finding it hard to believe that Louis had thought anything different from him.
Louis smirked at that, getting back his flirtatious ways. "God, you're so attractive to me right now."
"Just stop." Harry butt in, "I can't like you, it doesn't make any sense to me, don't you get that?"
"I get it", Louis calmly responded, "I would think you should hate me, but I am so happy you don't."
"I do hate you," Harry cooley snapped back, "I hate you so much."
Louis gave a bitter sweet smile and got up, then helped Harry up.
"Come to my house tonight, my family is gonna be gone visiting my cousins." Louis
suggested.
"Have you not been listening to me?" Harry shook his head.
"Yes, of course I have. I will never not listen to you, but you should agree that we need to talk it out and schools almost over so unless you want to talk about this matter in class on Monday, I suggest we just go to my house."
Harry thought about it, and really didn't want to leave with so much not settled so he agreed to go.
