Kairi tore herself free from the crack in the wall. Vanitas smirked.
"You can barely stand; This is gonna be easy," he said, easing his battle position.
Kairi dashed towards him, and swiped at his side. Vanitas was knocked aside, but seemed virtually unharmed.
"Nice strike! You've got some muscle for someone of your... size," he commented, licking his lips.
Kairi growled at him, and kicked him in the stomach. Vanitas took it with no hesitation.
"My turn," he said, and he wacked her with the side of his Keyblade.
She went sailing, skidding across the concrete floor. Kairi stood, and shot Flare at Vanitas. He sliced it with his Keyblade, and it blew up behind him.
"Pathetic..." he mumbled, knocking her to the floor before she could react.
He held his Keyblade in a downward position in his hands. He bent down, and licked away blood from Kairi's face. She cringed, resisting his advances. He then kissed her lightly.
"A little... goodbye from Sora," he whispered in her ear, standing over her now.
He held his Keyblade, resting the point on her chest. He rose it, and thrust down.
"Sora!" she shouted, and the blade stopped.
Vanitas looked at her, eyes reverting back to blue. "Kai..."
She smiled at him. "Hey..."
Sora emerged from Vanitas, though some remains of his hair were still black. "You have to get away... He's going to come back..."
Kairi touched his face softly, still smiling. The barrier around Laguna and the others dropped.
"Sora!" Tifa shouted joyfully.
"Mom," Sora replied simply.
Sora stepped away from his friends and family. "I'm... I'm sorry. You all know that I'm hopeless... You can't reclaim me as what I used to be..."
He began walking away. Kairi placed a hand on his shoulder. "Stop."
"What for?" he asked in a bit of a mocking tone, smiling a small smile.
"You can't give in. Not now, not ever," she whispered, trembling.
Sora turned to her, and wiped a few developing tears from her face. "It's too late for that."
"It's... It's not your fault... It's mine..."
Sora shook his head. "It is my fault. It was my choice to fall in love with you."
Kairi stopped crying for a minute. "It's strange... hearing that from you..."
"You and I both know we had something. But that something is gone now. I'm sorry," Sora said.
Kairi looked away from Sora for a few seconds, and when she turned, he was gone.
A few moments later, Vanitas took over Sora once more.
"You've had your fun. I have unfinished business to attend to now," he said, rolling a shoulder.
I'll get my body back. Just you watch, Sora said from his soul.
"What makes you think that?"
I have unfinished business, too.
Vanitas made a "hmph" sound as he walked in the world known as Hollow Bastion. Vanitas had chosen a new style of clothing this time around: black gloves, a leather jacket, black jeans, and a black T-shirt.
He was in Hollow Bastion because he had tracked down a major power source that was coming from here. He had suspected Heartless were going to attack it sooner or later. He made a sharp turn into a dark alleyway.
It's down this way, he thought, walking briskly under a darkening sky.
A Heartless appeared, launching for Vanitas's face. He slashed it in half with his Keyblade.
"Now I know I'm going the right way..." he mumbled to himself, starting to sprint.
Behind you, Sora said blandly.
Vanitas swiped away a Heartless from behind. "I guess I owe you thanks..."
You're a bit rusty from what you've told me... Ten years of residence in my heart... Of course you're a bit inexperienced... Sora said, and Vanitas could see him in a hammock and checking his nails.
"Shut up..."
They soon arrived at the end of the alley, noticing the great keyhole. The Center of Hollow Bastion.
"Damn! We're too late!" Vanitas mumbled, noticing Heartless gathering at it.
Just then, he heard a yell, and the Heartless were pushed back with a flurry of flames. Vanitas shut his eyes, bracing himself for the fire. Once it died, he saw a teenager there with pink hair, black eyes, and dressed in a white plaid scarf, a sleeveless black jacket with yellow outlines, and baggy white pants under a half-kilt with the same decoration as his jacket.
The teenager grinned. "I don't think you're getting this Keyhole, you Heartless bastards!"
Who's that? Sora asked, amused.
Vanitas summoned his Keyblade. "Just shut up!"
"Are you talking to me!?" the boy exclaimed.
"No..." Vanitas said.
The Heartless began regrouping, surrounding the pair. Vanitas swiped at them, destroying a few.
"Distract them! I'm going to shut the Keyhole!" Vanitas yelled.
"Gotcha!" the teen yelled, his fists now in flames. "You got fire?"
Vanitas set his Keyblade on fire. "Why?"
"I wanna eat it, dumbass!"
Vanitas didn't ask questions. He chucked the flame over, and the teen literally consumed it.
"There we go! Now I can get serious!" he shouted, punching his fists together.
He inhaled deeply, placing his hands in front of his mouth in a funnel position. "Fire Dragon's Roar!"
He exhaled, and a flare of flames shot out, frying many of the Heartless into ashes.
Vanitas extended his Keyblade, and a ray of purple shot out. The beam bounced off of the Keyhole, confusing the boy.
"What!?" he exclaimed.
I have to take over. Only a Keyblade of Light can seal a Keyhole, Sora said.
"Damn... Just during this time, got it?" Vanitas hissed, and Sora took over.
Sora flashed into his hands the Kingdom Key, and shot a ray of light at the Keyhole. It passed through, and a locking sound could be heard. The Keyhole faded, as did the Heartless. Vanitas once again took over Sora.
"That was pretty cool! So you're one of those Keyblade Wielder guys?" the teen asked, walking up to Vanitas.
"Yeah..." Vanitas replied.
"Amazing! My name's Natsu! What's yours?" Natsu asked, extending a friendly hand.
"... Vanitas," Vanitas replied, shaking it slowly.
"Va... neat... ass."
Vanitas winced as Natsu laughed.
"I'm just messing with you!" he said, roaring loudly.
"I have to go..." Vanitas said, making a Column of Darkness.
"But I just met you!" Natsu complained loudly.
"Don't you have friends or something to go to?" Vanitas replied.
"Oh, right! I forgot I have to meet Happy at the Salmon place down the street!" Natsu yelled.
"Happy...?"
But Natsu had already dashed out of the room, yelling, "I'M COMING, HAPPY!"
Vanitas sighed, and walked into the the Column of Darkness to the next world.
Dark Chains: Prologue
He strode down the path in distress. He was a fourteen year old boy with spiky jet black hair, pale skin, and dressed in black jeans, a blue-black jacket, and a black muscle shirt that matched with his crown necklace. His black fingerless gloved hands were on his head, where his eyes were shifting between a sky and mischievous and a dark and evil amber.
"Get out, Vanitas!" he shouted, his eyes blue.
"I don't think so, Sora… You brought this upon yourself…" Vanitas hissed, the boy's eyes amber.
The boy soon stumbled into a deep pit, and both voices shrieked, falling into nothingness.
When the boy woke up, he was in front of a great castle, draped in cerulean blue on the tips and a strange brown on the walls. There was a single white pathway, and everything was surrounded by purple clouds.
"You have no power here, Vanitas…" Sora said, feeling his other half repressed within his soul. "I'm in control here…"
He decided to walk to the castle. The colossal white doors looke in front of him. He attempted to push one, and it shifted easily, making a large creaking noise as it did so.
Sora peeked inside, seeing the entire room covered in nothing but white. It had a pathway that led to a second door, and Roman style pillars lined each side, seemingly guiding the pathway.
Sora saw a cloaked figure step out of a Column of Darkness. The black cloak completely concealed the figure's face, making it impossible to see.
"You must be Sora," it said in a male voice.
"Who're you?" Sora asked warily.
"I'm the one who can help you. I can rid you of Vanitas," the man replied.
"How can you do that?"
"Simple. My… friends and I shall put you through a series of trials. You will need this."
The man produced a blue card, and tossed it to Sora with his finger. Sora fumbled with it, but clutched it in his hands.
On one side, the card was a deep blue, imbued in the center with the crown necklace on Sora's neck.
On the other, it was pitch black, labeled with a Roman "I" surrounded by chains that radiated with darkness.
"What's this for?" Sora asked.
"You'll find out soon," the man replied, making another Column of Darkness.
Before he stepped through, the man said, "By the way, welcome to Castle Oblivion."
