Never gave up! It's actually just been a shitty year. But now I'm back with some good news! I will be consistently uploading this fan fiction every Saturday, for as long as I can! (Hopefully till school starts in late August)
How can you help me?! To be honest, what keiyu wrote as a review made me really push to finally get through as much as I can for this thing. If you guys just leave review or comment on what you liked, disliked, let me know you exist and enjoy it, I think that'll help me keep going! Hopefully. I'm betting on it.
So please leave a review so I know you're there and I'm not a shit writer. Or maybe just let me know I am so I can try to fix myself? Enough talking though!
Please enjoy!
** If I owned Disgaea, there would be a dedicated site to all the light novels and comics. Alas, I do not.**
Ok, maybe Lahal wasn't really hungry, but needed something to take his mind off a certain blonde demon. He let Thomas know he was going, and took a short walk to the dining hall. Flonne was already halfway through her meal, while Etna's mouth was in a perpetual frown as she looked over some papers Aramis had handed to her. A prinny set his plate next to Flonne, making him sweat at the sudden proximity to the fallen angel, but the love freak just looked up and gave him a big smile.
"Good evening Laharl! Did you have fun touring around the castle?" Laharl gave an automatic nod as he tried to sit down and eat like a normal person.
"Glad to know you two didn't let the castle go to shit after the human attack." Etna just groaned before stabbing a potato with her fork.
"It was a disaster fixing it, you know. I had to beat the living crap out of a bunch of rich people to get the funds, and we're still not done."
Flonne nodded before taking a big bite of her steak, her sharp fangs showing. Laharl zoned out while her sweet voice carried itself across the room, telling him about her day. Her blood red eyes shimmered with passion.
"Laharl, did you see the flowers I planned around the castle?"
"Uh huh. They're beautiful." Suddenly, her scent was all over him. He snapped out of his thoughts to realize she was hugging him.
"Oh, I'm so glad! Etna thought you wouldn't like them at all, and it wasn't very demon-like, but I knew you'd appreciate them!"
Oh-oh the flowers! Shit. Laharl just blurted out his feelings and even though the love freak hadn't noticed, a certain someone across the table had a knowing smile growing on her face. Laharl slowly peeled Flonne off of him and looked at his dinner.
"Yea. They're- the flowers. The flowers are nice." Flonne smiled and gave Etna a "told you so" before returning to her meal, her tail swaying happily.
Laharl glanced up from his sauerkraut to see the smiling overlord whisper something under her breath, something only his sharp ears could hear.
'Getting reeal handsy there, prince. Having fun?'
"NOT!" Laharl was now standing, and everyone in the room was staring at him. His face was red and she was next to him. His eyes looked around the room frantically, desperate for an excuse.
"Not Hoggmeiser again!" He suddenly shouted, pointing at the paper in Etna's hand. Oh thank god for his good eyesight.
Etna glanced down and made an "oh" sound.
"Yea. It's not really anything you need to worry about though. He's just getting picky about his son's grades in school and is trying to get my approval to decapitate his teacher." Laharl sat down, glad he avoided making an embarrassment out of himself.
"Porkmeiser is doing fine in class. He just missed an assignment because he was sick, but I'm giving him time to make it up." Laharl took a bite of steak while staring at Flonne. How would she know that?
Flonne noticed his confused stare and turned, what seemed like, to stare his eye. "I started a school chain recently and Porkmeister is one of my students." The school. The one Thomas had told him about.
"Why?" He asked without thinking.
"For love Laharl! I want to make sure no demon pushes others out and makes themselves miserable ever again!" Etna nodded as she took a new set of papers from Aramis.
"So I opened a school that taught all the normal subjects, but also made sure we taught about all the different kinds of love and how it could make everyone a better demon and help the netherworld be better too!"
"Love. Of course." A small almost whisper came from Laharl. Flonne paused.
"La-"
"Love, love. Love. That's all you care about, isn't it? How to make everyone just like you. Happy and bubbly and-"
He almost said annoying. Conflicting. Confusing. Regretting.
Laharl pushed his chair back and stood up. "I'm going to bed." Silence filled the room as the prince walked out and shut the door behind him. Flonne glanced at her friend with a torn face.
"Did I?" Etna shook her head.
"You're fine Flonne. The prince has some issues he needs to work on." Flonne tried focusing on her food.
"He's not mad at you." Etna's papers poked her hand, patting it from across the table.
"I know," even though she wasn't so sure.
The next 2 days were busy, but at the same time, dead silent. Flonne and Etna went through their daily routines, while Laharl avoided the fallen angel like the plague, instead choosing to follow Thomas around. She would only see him when he popped into the dining room to grab his meals, before retreating to his room. Flonne tried catching him to talk it out- no argument or misunderstanding should be left unresolved for too long, she always thought- but he would seem to disappear down the hall or into a crowd before she could get to him.
By the end of the second day, she was just sad. Her tail trailed behind her as she completed her duties with less vigor than usual. Zommie and a couple of the castle staff even asked her if she was feeling ok, willing to take over the rest of her tasks. At last, Etna and Aramis cornered her and demanded she take the rest of the day off and curl up somewhere to catch up on her seasonal anime.
So, there she was, in front of the throne room with a TV and DVD set, trying to open the door blindly while the blankets she'd stacked on herself were trying to choke her to death,
"Do you need help?" Flonne turned towards the voice.
"Yes! Yes please! Could you hold this for a moment?" She motion to the TV in her arms.
A few moments later, the TV was lifted out of her arms and she instantly threw the blankets on the ground so she could open the larger wooden door. With a smile, she turned to thank her anonymous helper.
"Thank you so much. I couldn't see at all and-"
Standing in front of her, holding the television and DVD player, was Laharl. Flonne immediately froze. She tail started curling around her leg as her heart started panicking. He was still mad at her, wasn't he? Was he gonna yell at her or tell her to go away? Was he going to take her precious TV-
"What are you doing?" Flonne blinked out of her daze at the prince's question.
"Oh, ummm... Etna... gave me the rest of the day off, so I thought I'd maybe watch it in the throne room, because how nice and quiet it is. Is all." She stared at her feet, unsure of what to say.
"Well then, open the damn door then. I'm not gonna hold this all day." She jumped at his response, smiling a little to herself as she picked up all the blankets she'd collected and pushed the door open so both of them could get through. Laharl kicked it close while Flonne speed walked to a space by the wall, with an outlet of course, and deposited the bundle of blankets. By the time Laharl has placed the TV down, she has created some sort of comfy floor nest to sit in, including a little snack section.
"What are you gonna watch?" The prince asked as he watched Flonne hum and move around the makeshift nest.
"I should be catching up on the anime I'm watching, but I thought I'd watch this one movie that I really enjoy." She replied as she placed the finishing touches down and took off her heels. Laharl just let out a grunt before turning to the door he'd come from. He glanced at the throne at the end of room, and leaned down to toss Flonne the cable to the TV.
"Have fun then." Flonne clutched the cord as she saw Laharl's scarf twist behind him as he left her, again, maybe even forever.
"Wait!"
Laharl turned to see Flonne's hand outstretched, before her face turned pink and she looked at the TV.
"Maybe, you could stay? And watch? With me? It's a nice movie." Laharl paused, as if in thought. Flonne didn't want him to go away, for her not to see him again, like before. And it had hurt so much the first time. Her heart would break if they couldn't even talk normally, like friends.
"Like a date?" Flonne looked back at him. He was avoiding eye contact, looking at the main entrance. He was trying to use up all the dates. For the competition. To be the overlord. Not for her. She didn't want that, but...
"Yes! No. I don't want you to push yourself to hang out with me if you don't want, but... but if it gets you to stay, then-"
There was a sudden dip in the blankets next to her. Laharl ears were bright red, but he was staring right at her.
"It can be whatever. You owed me one anyway." Flonne quickly nodded, face turning into a tomato as she pushed the end of the cord into the outlet. Laharl stared for a bit before taking his shoes off and placing them next to the fallen angel's heels.
"What are we watching?" The blue haired demon asked as he snagged a bag of chips and tore them open.
Flonne fumbled around until she found the remote, smiling at Laharl while she turned on the DVD player.
"Conquerer of Shamballa. It's from this one anime that I liked, but the movie itself is really nice. But I'll explain anything if you don't get it, k?"
"Fine, just get on with it," Laharl stated, as they both pushed themselves into the wall of the nest and got comfortable as the movie began to play.
Really quickly for those in the audience who don't know what "Conquerer of Shamballa" is, I will now provide a short, spoiler free explanation.
It's the official ending of the Fullmetal Alchemist anime (watch it before Brotherhood for double the FMA goodness). Basically it's about this guy Ed, who sacrifices himself so his brother can live, and is transported into our world a few years before WWII. This is via a magic portal where one side is our world, and one side is Ed's. A parallel universe. Ed's world is one where alchemy progressed as the main science, so people have the ability to transmute things (change them, fix them, destroy them) using cool science circles.
Anyways, the story is how he feels like he's living in a dream world, and how copes with it while his brother is trying to bring him back to the right side, and an evil organization is trying to get into Ed's world, which they named "Shamballa". The last part of the movie is this cool series of action scene as Ed returns to his world and has fight off people from the before WWII world who have come to take over and shit. He meets up with the love of his life, who is also his mechanic (he's got a fake arm and leg), but sacrifices himself to send the invaders back to their world, leaving her and all his friends behind. He knows that she loves him. And she knows he loves her, but acknowledges that protecting their world is more important than their love, even if she hates it. That's the scene that Laharl and Flonne are gonna be on, so I'm going to put the links under this little section. The movie does have a nice ending though, where both brothers end up in the same world and start adventuring together again, like they did in the show.
Ed- The boy with the brown coat (It's been 2 years since he's been in his world)
Al- Ed's younger brother, in the red coat, and he's been trying to get his brother back for 2 years
Winry- Blonde hair, Ed and Al's best friend, confident woman, but loves Ed, hasn't seen him in 2 years
The part Laharl and Flonne Gonna Watch: watch?v=tTMfM9SGkao&t=7s
AKA "Saddest Moment in Full Metal Alchemist" if you don't want to rewrite the URL
And also if you watch the movie(find it online): 1:18:24-1:21:19 is the part that shows Ed's relationship with his mechanic, Winry, so the clip I posted makes a bit more sense.
Hope the explanation was ok. Now back to the actual story!
The funny quirks at the beginning pulled Laharl in enough to tolerate the existential crisis the main character was seemingly having.
"Ok what's going on with this kid? Al?"
"Ed,the main character, is his brother. Ed sacrificed himself 2 years ago to bring his brother back from the dead. He just wants him back."
Laharl paused. "Oh."
"Oh Laharl I'm sorry. Do you want me to-"
"Not every wimpy backstory is gonna make me cry Flonne. "
Flonne just smiled and unpaused the movie.
By the time the climax started approaching, Flonne was hugging Laharls arm from fictional character emotional distress and munching off his bag of chips.
"Haven't u seen this already?"
"Yea but it gets me every time. Oh, here it comes."
"What?"
"Shhh, just watch. And pass me the chocolate chip cookies."
Laharl attempted a disgruntled groan as he smashed his empty bag.
"What about Winry?! Don't u know that she misses you?!"
Laharl a face contorted as the main character pushed himself to sacrifice everything he had on stupid humans.
The brother cried and yelled for his brother as he departed back into the other world.
"That's him isn't it?"
"I guess it's goodbye for good."
The blonde character stood strong among the rubble.
Laharl unconsciously clutched Flonnes arm, his scarf encasing their backs.
The next scene played, but Laharl was just caught in the moment. He knew what he wanted to ask.
'Why do it?'
But he already knew the answer. He'd done it himself, and he'd do it again just to protect the ones he...
He felt Flonne push through his scarf and massage his back.
"That part always gets me too." She said as small tears rolled down her face and the ending song roared somewhere in the distance.
He sat a little closer to Flonne and glanced at her.
"Then why do you watch it?" Flonne just gave him a tired shrug.
"I really don't know. I just like it. And... the emotions make me feel better for some reason. Like it's ok to be sad sometimes. That in some way, all this sadness makes something nice." Laharl just scoffed, giving the fallen angel a little smirk.
"It was nice though. Thanks for asking me to watch it with you." Flonne smiled and kept rubbing his back as she cuddled closer to him.
"You're welcome."
The two sat in the darkness of the throne room, with just themselves and the credits on the screen.
"You know tomorrow's the last day?"
"Yea."
"You didn't do something."
"You mean what that wimpy ass alchemist should have done when he'd seen that girl?" Flonne made a sarcastic frown and swatted his chest.
"No time for romance when there's a world to save. It'd make the movie too corny. Plus-" Laharl grabbed her hand.
"I know, I know. We both do." Flonne pushed off of him and tried to put herself in front of him, but he gently held her back.
"Fine you stupid love freak. I'll win your stupid little contest."
Laharl leaned in and planted a kiss on Flonnes cheek before quickly moving back to his spot. His face was calm, but it was lighting up in the lights of the tv.
"Happy n-" Flonne placed her hands around Laharl and gave him a firm hug before pushing herself up.
"Yes." She held out her hand and Laharl let her help pull himself up. Then, they somehow gathered all of Flonnes things and padded over to her room, bare feet barely making a sound in the dark halls of the sleeping castle.
Laharl slipped in to put Flonnes spare tv in its corner, before leaving her and her dozen blankets to a, hopefully, good nights rest.
There was nothing he could to stop himself. So maybe he could try being badass and a bit emotional.
A bit.
Please let me know if you liked it, and what side adventures you'd like the "Next Chapter" preview to maybe have.
