The Goggle-Head Boys

Chapter 7

The clock on the wall at the arcade struck six. As usual, the crowd had increased. Taiki was sitting in front of a car racing game, concentrating on beating a kid with brown spiky hair. He had a large frame faded blue jean suspenders. The other Goggle-Head boys played a few games until they started to leave individually. The only ones who stayed behind were Taiki and Taichi.

"And … he drives over the finish line!" Taiki said, trying to sound like a race announcer.

Taiki's opponent groaned. Half an hour ago, this boy, who introduced himself as J.P, challenged Taiki. They both sat down and started to play. It started off casual until Taiki decided to have a little bit of fun by showing off his skills. J.P didn't mind; in fact, he welcomed the challenge until he lost. But he was a good sport afterwards. They both shook hands before J.P said that he had to go. This prompted Taichi to look at his watch and said that he had to go too. Taiki nodded his head and turned back to play another round of the car racing.

Taichi turned, walked toward the door, and brushed his shoulder against another person. He paused, looked over his shoulder and caught a glimpse of short blonde hair. Taichi glanced at his watch again. He pulled out his cell phone and text his sister, saying that he was going to stay a little longer. Besides, I need to make sure it's not who I think it is.

The blonde haired juvenile, Christopher walked into the arcade. He glanced around and smirked when he saw Taiki sitting at the car racing game all by himself. He also knew, when he approached the arcade, that Taiki was alone. Christopher was also aware that he was being watched by Taichi somewhere close by.

Taichi peered out from behind one of the games.

Christopher walked up and sat down next to Taiki. At first, Taiki didn't know that he was being spoken to, until he felt a tap on his hand. Taiki blinked a few times and turned his head. His eyes widened and his heart skipped a beat. Then he frowned.

"What do you want?"

"It's Christopher ..."

"Uh ... Taiki ... uh ... nice to meet you."

Taichi could tell right away that Taiki was uncomfortable the way Christopher was eyeing him. He moved himself from the where he was hiding and walked up. Taiki turned and beamed. He was thankful that Taichi decided to come back.

Taichi grinned. "I had a feeling that you were going to have one more challenge." He turned to face Christopher, ready to shake his hand. "And what's your name."

Christopher narrowed his eyes, not liking that Taichi came back to protect Taiki. Christopher knew for a fact that Taiki can take care of himself. "It's Christopher."

"Tai -"

"Taichi ... yea. I know."

Taiki chuckled. "Leave it to our goggles to help people know who we are."

Christopher sighed, got up and started to walk out, but he stopped when Taiki called out to him. Christopher turned to see that Taiki had gotten up and stood next to the chair that he sat in.

"There's no reason for you to leave. You came to sit next to me to play – right?" Christopher nodded his head. "Then get back here, and let's see if I can kick your ass!"

Pure amusement flashed across Christopher's face. He sat back down, and the racing began. Taichi watched closely, to make sure that Taiki was okay. And after ten minutes, Taiki was having fun. Taichi looked at his watch and said that he needed to go. Christopher and Taiki were so absorbed with the racing, they didn't know that Taichi left until glanced over his shoulder to see that he left.

This prompt Taiki to pull out his cell phone. "I need to get going." He glanced up at Christopher, ready to shake his hand. "I had fun, though!"

Christopher smiled and shook Taiki's hand. "How about we meet here next week around 2:00PM?"

"Un … sure … we can do that."

"Great!" Christopher got up. "I'll see you then."

"Sure."
