Chapter 7 (Moving in)
Gan Ning sighed as he plopped on the bed of their new quarters. Cai Meng busied herself with unpacking her robes. "You know lord Gan Ning my task will go faster you helped." "Eh, you can handle it Zhengui, you got a good three hours sleep ahead of me." With a giggle Cai Meng went over to the blonde and started to pet his shaggy hair. He threw an arm around her, causing her to fall and lay with him. She then realized, the pirate fell asleep on her back; how was she going to move? Well luckily Gan Ning was not as heavy as he looked. Slipping out from under him, she finished packing and got to cleaning the place.
The maids were relieved when they entered to see the place tidy. They were not Cai Meng's old maids and she did not want them in her quarters cleaning. "Oh Lady Cai Meng did you clean this whole place yourself?" One asked. The small woman nodded to them. "She even got ahold of the cobwebs." Another stated. "I hate having dusty, dirty, quarters. No offense to you three, I just like to do the cleaning myself, gets my mind off things." After that the maids actually started to admire Cai Meng it was as if she was some kind of cleaning god. A minute or two went by with them gawking and talking, making her nervous; until Sun Shang Xiang came by.
"Hi Cai Meng, you ready to get out to the field? Don't worry I asked Gan Ning if it was ok, he said that you had no experience what so ever. That is where I'm coming in." Cai Meng's jaw fell open at the statement. She never picked up a weapon in her life, and now she was going to be trained with one? Praying silently she followed Sun Shang Xiang to Lu Meng's office. The two women stopped by the door to listen slightly. Two voices were heard on the other side of the wooden frame.
"Why him? Why of all people him?" One man said. He voice was frantic, quick, threatening, and angry. "Because Ling Tong, Gan Ning will be a considerable asset to Wu. And before you go on, no I have not forgotten that he killed Ling Cao but at that time he was doing what he was ordered to do: protect your allies, kill the enemies." Lu Meng's voice was ever so clear. Cai Meng never heard words, like those put in that sort of way. Protect your allies, kill the enemies it sounded a lot like; "protect your property, kill the trespassers."
Ling Tong loud out a groan. "I would give anything to have his head on a platter." It grew silent before the brunette continued. "Actually, I want him to hurt like I hurt, take someone who is close to him like he took my father." The voices faded a little when Sun Shang Xiang had heard enough and knocked on the door. When the door opened it revealed Lu Meng, Ling Tong, and slightly smaller man with short brown hair. The new male was fairly short, and young, Cai Meng guessed around the age of eighteen or nineteen like herself with amber eyes with a passion that burned in them. When he stood up to greet them recognition hit Sun Shang Xiang.
"Oh, yeah Cai Meng you haven't met Lu Xun, he's Lu Meng's apprentice. Lu Xun this is lady Cai Meng, wife of Gan Ning." The princess introduced. Lu Xun shook her hand and said hello. Ling Tong sneered at his politeness to her. "Surprisingly the idiot let her out of the room, what ran out of chores and trying to find someone to play with?" "Ling Tong what have I told you?" Lu Meng scolded the taller man for his comment. "Anyways ladies what can I do for you?"
"I'm taking Cai Meng out to train with a weapon, can you help figure out which type could work?" Then all four pairs of eyes fell on the small red head. Suggestions flew from one to another, none able to make up their minds. "Um, excuse me but can I make a suggestion?" She asked quietly. "What would you know about a weapon, probably never seen a sword in your life." Ling Tong taunted. Now he was turning into a bully. "Well, I have never wielded one before, my mother never wanted me near such things but how about we start with basics." Everyone looked at each other.
"That might be best… Lady Sun Shang Xiang, she's your responsibility." Lu Meng said and dismissed them to go train. When they were out on the grounds and of course changed Cai Meng had a hard time keeping up with the tomboy as they tried running drills. Never did she notice, Gan Ning to a seat under the tree close by to watch, smirking as tried to keep up. "Well Shang Xiang you will have to learn you can't turn a housewife into a warrior, but you might surprise me."
The next day about lunchtime the two Qiao's came by. They were not much shorter than Cai Meng, but much prettier. The youngest, Xiao Qiao, spoke first; "Hi I'm Xiao Qiao, and this is my sister Da Qiao, you must be Cai Meng." "Um, yes last I checked I was." Cai Meng had no sarcasm in her voice, just confusion. "Well, we would like to invite you to have tea, to get to know you better and all." Da Qiao stated.
Cai Meng agreed and next she knew she was drinking tea in their quarters listening to them go on. It turns out the Da Qiao was married to Emperor Sun Quan's late brother Sun Ce, and Xiao Qiao was married to Zhou Yu. The other things got too confusing for Cai Meng, until they asked her questions.
"So who are married to?" Xiao Qiao asked. "Well, I'm married to General Gan Ning." The two women looked at her surprised. "So, you did come from Xia Kou?" Cai Meng nodded. "Then, you're the new girl. We heard you will not be going into battle, and thought you were a maid but a wife wow." Xiao Qiao said. "Excuse my sister on that, see Lord Zhou Yu lets her out on the battle field, I used to until Sun Ce passed." Cai Meng nodded the two sisters were not so bad.
That night Gan Ning plopped down on the bed as usual and Cai Meng lay beside him too tired to think. "So how's training going?" "Lord Gan Ning who's idea was it?" Gan Ning smirked at the thought. "Not mine, actually Sun Shang Xiang's. The two Qiao's keep going on about you to." Cai Meng giggled at the thought, those two were something else. She felt Gan Ning shift a little and turned around to see him facing her. Laying a hand on his cheek he could not help but poke at her nose, making her giggle at the slightest.
Alright the news as I promised. Due to my busy schedule I am considering discontinuing this story, that and the extreme grammatical errors and the lack of a beta. But there is no say, I'm going to try and make it to Chapter 12 before I give any answers, just prepare yourselves.
