A/N: Gin's Greek myth instructor IS NOT Annabeth!
The Olympian Paradox
You Should Know Better
Alongside Chiron, there was another girl teaching me how to properly us my new tessen fans. Her name was Kana Hayashi. She had the classic anime girl look—long, dark hair with fringe and dark eyes. She was quiet and focused, and an excellent kunoichi (a female ninja).
Whenever we weren't training or sparring, we made meaningful conversation. I discovered that we watched the same animes and had a similar habit of staying on the internet for hours before we came here. We got along pretty nicely, considering neither of us were social butterflies.
"Gin-chan," Kana called out to me. "It's time to get back to training."
I got up from my position on the ground, feeling a bit refreshed from that ten minute break. "Alright, I'm coming." I walked back over to our training spot behind my cabin. We both picked up our black practice fans.
"I think you're ready for a duel now. Nothing too serious, just a review of what we've been over so far." She said. She got into her starting position, one fan high and one low. I mimicked it with slight variation.
Kana wasted no time striking out at me with impeccable grace. I sidestepped her hit, tossing my fan out in a curve. She ducked and the fan came back to me like a boomerang. Running towards me, Kana swiped above my head, at my sides, and even at my feet. I was forced to bend and bow, occasionally hopping from one foot to the other.
Again, I hopped out of the way before she could give me another slice on my arm. Now I was behind her. I knelt down to sweep her feet from the ground, but she turned before I could. I still had the chance to attack her, and I took it eagerly. I kept my attacks near her torso, forcing her to go back. Back, Kana did go, into a back flip. She kicked my fans from my hands, and they landed next to her own. Her feet collided with my side, not hard enough to break anything, but enough to knock me over.
I fell to the ground, holding my side, my bespectacled eyes squeezed shut. When I finally opened them, Kana was standing above me with a grin and an outstretched hand. I took her hand and she pulled me up, handing me my practice fans.
"That was a very nice duel, Gin. You're really improved these past weeks." Kana started.
But…I thought.
"But you've really got a lot to learn. However, that's what Chiron and I are here for." She finished.
I nodded at her statement.
Why? Why me? I thought as I struggled to keep my eyes open. My Greek myth teacher, some Athena kid, was about to make me fall asleep. Not that she would have noticed.
No, she was too busy talking obnoxiously loud, adding in unnecessary comments, biased opinions, and other things I really didn't care about.
Scratch that, why is she even an instructor? I asked myself, pinching my wrist hard to stay awake. Fuck it; she's not even watching me. I leaned on my palm, closing my eyes. Goodnight, world—hello imagination.
"…and then, our lovely Queen Hera decided to make Heracles go batshit and kill his wife and kids, for no reason at all."
Opening my eyes, I processed that sentence faster than any laptop ever could. She made him go batshit? Does that mean she used—
"Mind manipulation," I spoke softly.
"Yes. She messed him up because she can't do anything but sit on her throne and yell and get jealous. And she wonders why her husband doesn't love—"
The rude girl finished her sentence with a pained grunt as I suddenly snatched her wrist and pulled her up to me. I slowly look up into her wide grey eyes.
"It's rude to talk about someone's mother like that. How would you feel if someone insulted Athena?" I have no idea what came over me—suddenly, darkness took over, leaving me with no control.
I smirked at the curses my instructor yelled as I clenched her wrist harder. She was struggling, but somehow I remained unfazed by it.
"Yes, yes," I chuckled,"that was very rude of you. You, a daughter of the wise Athena, should know better," I paused and stood, knocking the girl back. Grabbing her shoulder, I flung her around. Down she went, onto the ground, hunched over on her hands and knees. Before she could get up, I placed my foot on her back, flattening her against the floor. "Then to insult Hera and her child!"
She gasped weakly. "C-child? Of Hera? That's impossible—it's against r-reality!"
Again, I chuckled. "Then I guess you can call me the Olympian Paradox!" I continued to stand on her back, laughing to myself at my self-proclaimed title.
But then, something pressed down hard on my shoulder, making me fall to the ground instantly. I could faintly hear the grateful cries of my instructor for being let off of the floor before I blacked out.
Yep, I introduced another character and made a short chapter! Gin went a little crazy at the end, didn't she? That will be explained next time, and I will introduce the main plot of my awful story.
