Chapter 7
I apologize for such a long time, as my loyal readers would know I have a lot of other stories in the making some already posted and a lot more still on paper.
now on with the next chapter.
K-unit's injuries consisted of bruises thankfully, according to Snake, Wolf had a pressure point hit which blocked use of his arm. How Cub was able to do it was beyond Snake's imagination. Cub insisted that he was fine, he didn't seem to show any pain, no wincing or limping or slowness in his actions, making Snake worried of how well Cub can hide his injuries.
"Are you lot even able to make it to the shooting range?" Cub asked watching Snake tend to the other men.
"Yes, they'll be fine. You might want to show us some of your moves sometime. We could probably benefit from it." Snake said.
"Let's get going, I wanna see how you do with a gun." Wolf said as he got up, feeling has only slowly came back into his arm.
"I can shoot, you don't have to worry."
"I don't like the idea of you knowing how to use a gun."
"Real rich kids play with guns too, are you worried about them?" Cub thought back to when he stayed at Sir Friend's home before Point Blanc and how the girl's friends messed with him. The others didn't exactly know how to respond to that so without another word on the subject they headed out to the shooting range.
"So you're Cub?" The shooting instructor asked when they got to the shooting range.
"Yes, sir," Cub said with a curt nod.
"Can you shoot?"
"Yes, sir,"
"Doubt it," Everyone turned to see Boar standing there glaring at Cub, the rest of Boar's unit was walking up behind him. "He probably never handled a gun before, his mommy wouldn't let him. Eh little Cub?"
"I assure you I have handled a gun before, many times actually." Cub said unemotionally and Ben had to give it to Alex for standing his ground so well against this meathead.
"Boar are you really that stupid to not heed Cub's warning from breakfast?" Wolf snarled, he may still not like Cub entirely but he was part of K-Unit so he had to put up with him, and he didn't like when other soldiers made fun of his unit, actually he hated it.
"Well this doubt of my skills can be easily resolved and all I will need is a gun to do so." Cub said with a bit of confidence. The shooting instructor handed him a beretta m9 and told him to strip it down. "Fair enough."
In truth Alex knew the model well since he has a few dispersed about him home and cleaned them regularly as to make sure they are in working state and to relieve stress. Even though the agents around his house and in it didn't know about them. He stripped it down fairly quickly with a practiced hand, he took a moment to look at each piece to see its condition. After about five minutes of inspecting the gun Alex reassembled it with such great speed that when he looked up at the instructor he had a slack jaw and a look of awe.
The instructor cleared his throat, "Well I certainly didn't expect that much skill, Cub. Nicely done." Alex turned to look at his unit, most of them were clearly surprised, Ben had a look of concern clearly expressed on his face.
"So what if he can assemble a gun? Doesn't mean he is any good at pulling the trigger." Boar protested, glaring still at Cub.
"Well if someone can inspect and assemble a gun with that level of skill and precision I am going to suspect they surely have practice at shooting. Maybe you could learn something from Cub, Boar." The shooting instructor said pointedly at Boar, who thankfully shut his mouth before saying anything else. "But I still need to see what level you work at Cub." He placed a magazine in Cub's hand. "Whenever you're ready."
Cub nodded and moved to the target range, without any protective gear, he emptied the magazine quickly and when he was done he went back to the instructor telling him he was done.
"Already?" Boar mocked, "Is it too much power for you?"
"Not at all, my results sir." Cub handed the instructor the sheet, when he looked at the results he raised an eyebrow.
"You emptied the entire magazine?" The only answer he got was the recently emptied magazine in Cub's hand.
"Why did you ask that?" Wolf asked concerned as for any member of his unit having a problem becomes his problem. The instructor did not answer Wolf but only told Cub to do it again, and this time he was going to watch. Which Alex had no problem with but he chuckled when the instructor handed him ear protector, but put them on regardless and was handed another magazine and was told to do it the same way he did it before.
Alex closed his eyes and took a breath, knowing once K-unit sees him shoot they will look at him differently.
Here goes nothing. Alex thought before clearing his mind, imagining the gun as an extension of his arm. He turned to where he knew the targets were and opened his eyes just before he started firing. Screw what the others think as this has become his usual way of shooting since he started working for MI6 after Cairo, he actually was motivated to go to MI6's shooting range that was located in the sublevels of the bank whenever he felt stressed or overwork, Ms. Jones's idea and a good one at that. He found shooting was a safe way to let go of the built up nerves with every pull of the trigger.
The magazine was emptied quickly and Alex lowered the gun to see his results, knowing that he passed. Now waiting to see how all these will react to being out shot by someone they see as a kid. He stands there waiting for the instructor to bring in Cub's results, all the men were surprised since he emptied it so quickly. Finally the instructor brought the target up and was in shock all over again, there were only two holes, one between the eyes and to the heart.
"Woah," The instructor said under his breath. "Cub how did you do that?"
"Like I said, I've handled a gun before."
"but to that precision?"
"I was taught, that's all I'm saying and no you aren't allowed to know where."
"Why not?" the instructor ask.
"I can't tell you, but you can take it up with the sergeant if you wish just leave me out of it." Cub said without a care because he knew the sergeant didn't know and wouldn't tell this instructor even if he knew. With that he left the range to have the eyes of all the slack-jawed soldiers follow him out. He was used to it by his classmates so he didn't care now as these men were just another group like his peers.
The men just stared at him as he left the range, they exchanged looks of awe and confusion of what just happened because they cannot absorb the fact that they were just out shot by a kid. They look at his results again to see if they were imagining what they saw, surely not all of them could see the same thing, the kid getting a perfect score.
"Did that seriously just happen?" Eagle asked.
"And did we just let him walk out of here?" Snake asked.
"Are you going to listen to his warnings now, Boar?" Fox asked a bit smug, covering his shock because he knew Alex could shoot but not that well. Ben has seen his results at the bank but still he never comprehended that he really was that good. Ms. Jones told Ben how Alex had received training and that he could hold himself, one of the reasons he is such a good agent. But these results are on point with those of an assassin, he would need to talk to Al about that later.
"Um, I got it, this kid is not to mess with." Boar said defeatedly.
"For once you actually learned something," Boar's teammate chuckled, "And it had to be done by a kid."
"Where did Cub go anyway?" Snake asked looking around to see if anyone knew.
"I'll go look for him." Fox says as he leaves the range to look for Alex.
Meanwhile the shooting instructor was in the sergeant's office.
"What are you coming to me about this time?" Sergeant Rogers growled, the instructor dropped the two results on the sergeant's desk. "What are these?"
"Cub's shooting results, he told me to take it up with you."
"Of course he did, I heard he was good but not this great."
"What!? You didn't know about this?"
"Nope, I barely have a folder on him."
"Seriously?" the instructor asked.
"Seriously, he barely has any info, I don't even know how old he is, when he got here he didn't tell me."
"Who the hell is this Cub?"
"I have no idea."
"Cub! Cub where the devil are you?" Fox called out as he walked through the woods. "Al?"
"I wondered how long it would take for you to come after me." Fox turned around since the sound came from behind him. He looked up to see Alex lounging high above in a tree, hidden in the shadows.
"That was quite the show back there at the range." Fox said chuckling, all he got from Al was a shrug and a small smirk.
"It was gonna happen sooner or later and I didn't wish to prolong the inevitable." Alex started to climb down the tree and jumped the last eight feet and performed a perfect tuck and roll, ending up just in front of Fox. "Let's take a walk to the lake, I don't want to head back right away." Alex headed towards the lake, Ben walking beside him. Out of no where Alex slapped Ben on the back to the head, causing Ben to wince.
"What the hell was that for?" Ben grumbled, rubbing his head.
"Australia you recognized me in an instance after knowing me only a week and not seeing me for months between that and yet you were in my school a whole day and made no connection? No wonder you hanging with K-unit; you stink at being a spy." Alex smirked but Fox couldn't see it as Alex moved ahead.
"Well it's been more than a few months, besides you changed a lot, more than a little disguise could do."
"Little? I couldn't even recognise myself on that mission, I really looked like an afghan refugee. I just grew a bit since then."
"It was more than just a growth spurt and both of us know that."
"Whatever." Alex kept walking and Ben continued to rub his head as he trudged close behind.
