"So what?" Ayuzawa laid out her hand asking for the arrow, Aomine's still holding. "What are you doing here?"
"Just strollin'." He snickered giving her the arrow. "That suits you."
"Well, thanks." Then she eyed at him curiously. "You're skipping practice again, aren't you?"
"Told you, I don't need that."
"Tch... go away and bother someone else... this is a sacred place where every people who comes here values training and discipline."
"Oh?" Aomine tried to peek inside. "This can be a nice sleeping place."
"No it's not. If you EVER try to come here and lay down I will make you my target."
"Really?" Aomine smirked. "Good thing I found you by the way."
"And why's that?" she crossed her arms and raised a brow at him.
"Just in case you forgot. I'll remind you about my awesome reward."
"Tomorrow, probably."
"What? Probably?"
"Ayu-chan! Why don't you join the match?! We need your - huh?" Aomine and Ayuzawa were interrupted as soon as someone went out of the dojo, he's wearing the same traditional outfit as Ayuzawa. He looks manly, however, the way he called on to Ayuzawa tells otherwise. "Oh...a cute boy! Is he a new recruit?".
"Heh. No thanks, I'm not interested." Aomine said as he placed his hands on his pocket and got himself ready to go. "See you sometime, Ayuzawa."
"Yeah...Whatever." Ayuzawa said as she watched Aomine walk away.
"Ayu-chan. That guy is a total hottie!"
"He's an idiot."
"But he's so yummy."
"You should act more like you look. It is confusing. Anyway, Captain..." Ayuzawa said changing the topic. "I'm sorry but I don't think I can join the competition."
"I see, I guess, I cannot persuade you. It's such a shame considering your skill." He said with a caring tone. "I hope you change your mind, Ayu-chan."
"I'm sorry."
"It is fine, at least you get to change your mind in joining this club! it's more than enough considering what you've been through." He smiled at her and tapped her back. "I just hope you move on from such an experience."
"To tell you the truth, everytime I step inside the dojo...I still remember... but I am trying to erase that in my mind, I do hope that reexposing myself with this environment can help. I really want to forget such a thing in my life."
"Oh you will! Our coach is a good lady after all! And I'm...you know...we have the same heart."
"Yes, I know captain and for that I am amazed." Ayuzawa giggled and entered the dojo with the captain.
Ayuzawa sighed as she made her way through the rooftop, she really is irritated with this idea, but she might as well give in and end this once and for all. She kicked the door open and was welcomed with a sleeping douchebag.
"This moron." She muttered as she sat beside him and tugged his shirt. "Oi, Idiot! I'm here."
"zzz" He replied with a snore.
"Oi! You said I should come here for your reward!" She said almost yanking his shirt as she tries to wake him up.
He moves away and turns his back at her. "Soft..."
"I am getting mad... We need to get back in class soon, moron."
"No...That feels nice, Mai-chan...we should do this more often..." Aomine muttered, grinning like an idiot while he's still asleep. Ayuzawa sighed. she stood up and then, kicked him hard on his side causing him to jolt up in pain. "What the fuck!" he yells as he sat up rubbing the part she kicked.
"You know...if you make an appointment you should be attentive." She said as she sat beside him again. "Anyway...here." She gave him a big lunch box, which he grabbed from her.
"It's a teriyaki burger, right?"
"Yes. your reward, as promised."
"This looks tasty." He said as he opened the box. He reached for the chopstick and ate a portion. He almost had his eyes tearing up as he tasted it "This is fucking amazing!" and without saying anything again, he chomped off the food.
"Thanks. I decided to put my all into that, as a thanks."
"Damn, right. You should." He said still eating up to the last bit of her food. "God...You really are a good cook, Satsuki needed to learn a thing or two from you."
"To tell you the truth, that is a very simple dish, I can make better ones but since you insisted, I guess that is what you really want."
"Yeah. This is a nice reward."
"But now that I think about it...I shouldn't really be the one giving rewards because I had the greatest effort."
"You know, I'm your greatest reward, I think there's a saying 'A teacher's greatest reward is for her student to succeed'. Didn't I get an A+?"
"I am surprised...I can't believe you can say such a thing. But still, you suck and it is unfair."
"Tch... you don't know...maybe sometime, If I'll ever teach you with something, I can give you a reward." He nudged at her shoulder and she frowned at him.
"I do not think that is possible knowing our capabilities, it is more likely that I'll be your teacher again..." she said somehow with a smile on her face. "So...I think this signifies the end of our partnership."
"You're that eager to get rid of me, huh?"
"Not really. To tell you the truth, I had fun with you, but nothing lasts forever. So..." She offered a hand to him while he puts down her bento. "Thanks for being my partner, let us not involve ourselves with each other again."
Aomine grinned. "You are seriously, a heartless bitch."
"I have a heart you know... otherwise I won't be here talking to you." She smiled as he scowled at her. "I'm kidding. Also, I know you meant the other way around."
"Nope...it's quite true. By the way, I don't like shaking hands. Not my style." He said as he readies his fist and Ayuzawa remembers, She bumps her fist into his.
"Do your best both in school and in the court."she said as she stretched. "I heard you'll be competing in the interhigh finals, Good luck."
"Like I need that." He said as he laid down again. "How 'bout you? Goin' to compete?"
"They say that in Kyudo...To hit the target you must ignore the desire to do so. I joined not to compete but to change myself." She glanced at Aomine who looked at her with a 'What are you talking about' face. "You don't get it, do you?"
"No. Why do you have a target if you're not going to hit it? Does that mean you're just changin' target or somethin '?" she smiled and tapped him on the back.
"You are a colossal idiot." she stood up and dusted her skirt. "Class will start after a few minutes, you should go there, at least you'll be recorded as present in the attendance, even though you're sleeping."
"M'fine... I don't need that anyway." He said as he watched her go.
Days passed after the 'end of partnership' treaty of Ayuzawa and Aomine, She was as usual busy with her studies especially since the proficiency exams is just two weeks away. Aomine, on the other hand's still busy, sleeping and skipping practice.
"Did you hear? we're second in the interhigh." Ayuzawa almost dropped a book she was about to read when she heard two students talk beside her.
'Second? And I thought he's supposed to be the best?' She thought as she got a seat in the library and started reading.
"I heard that Aomine was benched." She was stopped midway before flipping the page.
"Yeah, maybe if he played they'll win first?"
"I dunno. That guy's a monster."
"Why didn't he play?"
"I guess he was injured? I heard one of the players say he injured his foot."
"Oh...That's sad."
Ayuzawa closed her book and decided this place and time is not that conducive to study for the exams, or rather because sje is distracted with the other two people beside her who kept talking about interhigh games and him...
She went out and passed by the canteen to get a chocolate drink, but there's none available so she turns to buy a milk which has banana flavor instead. She noticed that there is only a little time before class starts so she decided to go back to the classroom.
On her way though, she saw Aomine near the vending machine, staring hard at it with his usual angry face.
'Dammit'." he said kicking it. Avoid him. She was about to turn the other way but she thought, why did she need to avoid him, that's the closest way to the classroom so she'll pass there. Ayuzawa breathes out and walk towards him.
"You should not destroy school property." Aomine, who is as irritated as always, looked at her with furrowed brows. She tilted her head to point at the machine.
"The fuck do you care?"
"Because I study in this school too?"
"Tch... I don't want to waste my time reasoning with you." Aomine said. "Besides even if I want to be the one to break this shit, it's already broken."
"I see." Ayuzawa stared at the machine. "Still...there is no need to kick it."
"Told you...I don't care so you shouldn't either."
"You're right." She said somehow surprising the tall guy. She looked at him Are you alright? Should I ask that? She brushed off the idea, their involvement with each other only involves their PE partnership. "Are you here to buy a drink?"
"Of course, what the hell are you in front of a vending - " Aomine was stopped when she offered her banana milk. "This..."
"You should cool off." she said as Aomine gets the drink from her hand. "You can pay that back when you're alright." she walks away and left him rooted at his spot.
Today, their topic in math is about powers and square roots, Ayuzawa knew this very well so she's not that attentive instead she pretends to be writing but in reality she's just doodling.
Their teacher is also annoying, he kept on blabbering about being a math whiz in college and that he's very very good at math. It was irritating.
"Aomine-san." She heard a whisper behind her and saw Sakurai calling Aomine who's fast asleep, head buried on his desk.
'Is he sad?' she thought as she glanced at the sleepy head. She shook her head. 'I shouldn't care about him now.'
"Aomine-san!" Her heart skipped a beat as she was surprised with her teacher's sudden loud voice. "Aomine-san."
The blue haired boy opened his eyes and yawned even in the sight of his teacher which agitated the latter more. "Yes, sensei?" The teacher then scribbled on the board.
"Solve this equation." he pointed the equation written, it has a lot of parenthesis and X's and superscript numbers*. "Stand, Aomine-san. Do you know the answer?"
"...5?" He answered, scratching his neck.
His teacher beamed. "No... anyway I don't expect you to get this, after all...this is a difficult problem for your level, this is given in the CATs. I'm actually one of the few college examinees who solved this, This is beyond you guys."
Ayuzawa sighed. How annoying...
"Ok...so 5 is wrong." Aomine was about to sit, but his teacher tapped the table.
"Remain standing." He said. "You won't sit until one of your classmates give me the answer. "
"What?"
"I'll also dismiss all of you earlier. but that is quite impossible, since as I said only those within my level can - " The teacher was surprised when he saw someone raising a hand. "Yes?"
"Sensei. The answer is 9." Ayuzawa stood up and answered.
Aomine and Sakurai looked at Ayuzawa who answered in her usual confident tone. Aomine smirked. 'That's my girl.' His smile faltered. 'No, she's not, what the hell am I thinking.'
"That is correct." The teacher was slack jawed and stared hard at Ayuzawa. "Is that a lucky guess?"
"No sensei... I've been solving it, after you wrote it, before you said the reward I already knew the answer but I was waiting for you to call, I'm sorry if I am impatient. I need to go out early." Ayuzawa said.
"Oh? Then where's your solution?" He was asking for her scratch paper.
"I am sorry sensei, I solved it on my mind so I don't have a scratch paper."
"And you expect me to believe that?"
"I can solve it in the board sensei." She said, the teacher moved away from the board to give her space, and then as soon as she opened the marker she started writing, she was so fast and her teacher is so speechless as he watched how she comes up with 9.
"Are we really dismissed now?" Ayuzawa said as she capped her marker.
"Oh... yes you can all go." The teacher's still awestruck.
"Thank you, sensei." She said and got her bag the rest of the class got out of the room leaving the sensei flabbergasted.
Ayuzawa walked quickly trying to get to the library as soon as possible to get a hold of the book she needs to review. She was almost trying to skip steps in the staircase, until, she was stopped when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She glanced back and saw Aomine.
"Hey." She stepped up two stairs above his so that their height can at least be at par.
"Hey you too." Ayuzawa said. "Is there something wrong?"
"I was going to ask that? Are you sick?"
"No...why would you say that?"
"Because you are suddenly kinder?"
Ayuzawa smirked. "I told you to pay back that banana milk. That's not for free."
"Well, yeah..." somehow he was embarrassed as he scratched the back of his neck. "The equation?"
"I'm annoyed with the teacher he's so irritating."
"I see." Aomine placed his hands on his pocket. "Alright. Where are you headed?" Just curious
"Library." Ayuzawa stared at him. "Are you - alright? Does your foot hurt?"
"What?"
"Well... I heard about - "
"Aomine-kun!" She was stopped as she heard Momoi call on Aomine, the blue haired boy glanced at her. "Is your foot ok?! You need to come with me to the court, Imayoshi-san needs to talk to you."
"Huh? What the hell does he want?" Aomine rushed downstairs and followed Momoi.
That's right, he have his girlfriend to worry about him... Ayuzawa continued her path to the library and decided to finish the book she was about to read.
While walking, Aomine glanced back at the staircase and saw Ayuzawa go. "That was Ayuzawa-san, right?" Momoi asked nudging him in the shoulder.
"Yeah, that's her." He looked at his friend who had this teasing expression. "What?"
"Did I disturb something?"
"Yeah." Aomine rubbed the back of his neck. "That's why you're so annoying."
"Oh my God! What did I disturb?"
"My plan to sleep."
