A/N: Hello everyone. I know I haven't updated in a couple months and I am so sorry about it. My grandpa hadn't been doing very well and he passed away in January of this year. I know it's been a few months, but I am still dealing with it. I hope you enjoy this new chapter of 'What is a family?'
All my other stories are on hold until I finish 'What is a family?' which I plan on making into two parts. Once they are finished I will turn my attention to 'A Heart to love.'
'Whole Again' and 'Learning to Fly' will be completely rewritten once those stories have been completed.
Thank you for reviewing my stories. I am sorry for being away for so long.
CHAPTER 6: OF NAMES AND DISCOVERIES
The dragon lunged and we scrambled to avoid it. It crashed into a building before taking to the air.
"Aw crud! What do we do now Micha?" Chris demanded.
I shook my head struggling to come up with a plan that would defeat this monster. We didn't have our weapons because Dark Kat said we wouldn't need them. Showed what he knew.
"Micha!"
"Look out!"
I turned my head to see the dragon's tail swinging towards me. I jumped out of the way, barely escaping the blow. I landed on the hard ground and struggled to breathe.
"Sis!"
Vanessa and Chris were at my side in an instant.
"Are you hurt?" Vanessa asked.
I shook my head.
"Your leg." Chris pointed.
I looked down to see a massive tear in the leg of my suit. That wasn't a big deal. The big deal was whatever had cut my clothing had also cut my leg.
"Never mind the injury. We have to take down this dragon." I said.
"But Micha-" Chris started.
"No 'buts.' Dark Kat gave us a mission and we have to see it through." She sighed and muttered 'stubborn' under her breath. If it was another time and place I would have told her to keep her comments to herself, but now wasn't the time for a lecture.
Vanessa tugged on my paw and I looked at her.
"Dragon dead ahead!"
Crud.
"Scatter!"
We took off in different directions and guess who the dragon chose to follow. Me.
The dragon chased me as I led it through the ruins of what used to be Megakat City. Old, dilapidated buildings existed where tall, strong structures once stood. Vehicles, rusted and broken down with vegetation growing from them, littered the streets.
This broken city offered me little inspiration for my current situation, the whole scene was depressing.
I continued running through the streets trying to find a place where I could come up with a plan. The answer came to me when I ran to what appeared to be an old salvage yard. I jumped over the gate and ran to the door, shutting it once I was in.
The lights were out so I used the flashlight from my belt. The creature either hadn't noticed me, or decided it wasn't worth looking in a rundown garage. Point for me.
I held my breath though as it soared past the building and back to the city. I wasn't concerned. I knew Chris and Vanessa had probably found a safe place to hide.
A look around told me no one had lived here for many years. The tools, rusted with time, lay scattered across the floor. The wood floor was cracked and splintered in some areas and one look at the ceiling told me it could cave in at any minute. Best step lightly.
As I explored I found two bedrooms, an office, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a door in the back that led to a huge garage.
I walked down the steps and, continuing to ignore my throbbing leg, began looking around.
I made my way to a wooden table that was cluttered with weapons. I picked up one that appeared to be a glove and slipped it onto my paw. Perfect fit. I pressed a button on top and two circular saws flew out and lodged themselves into the wall. I staggered back.
Whoever made this was a mechanical genius.
I began to examine the other weapons on the table and was just about to pick up an arrow when I bumped into something. That something was a chair with three pieces of wood stacked on top of it.
Carefully picking up one of the pieces and examining it, I found someone had engraved something on it. My light revealed the answer. In capital block letters was the name, 'MICHA'.
The name dropped to the floor with a crash. I grabbed the other two pieces and found two names as well.
MAX.
ANGELA.
My paws shook as I stared at the wood in wonder.
Why was my name on a piece of wood in an abandoned garage? Who were the other two names?
I shook my head. Now wasn't the time for this, I had a plan…and a dragon to defeat.
