Now it's time to find out what happened to Flowerpaw.
Chapter 6: Revealed
Badgerface and Foxtail limped into camp, their sides stinging from the scratches they had both received from the foxes. One of the foxes had bitten his ear that created a nick. He also had a gash on his side that stung terribly with every step he took and it did not help that Foxtail was leaning on his side from all the wounds that she had taken from the bigger fox of the two. Badgerface had expected to see Sandclaw treating Flowerpaw outside his den, but instead only saw Pigeontalon, Stormtail, Robinpaw, and Jaypaw sitting outside the den with worry clearly written on their faces. Pigeontalon broke away from the group when she heard Badgerface and Foxtail approaching. She had her dark gray fur bushed out and her amber eyes dark with fury.
"How could you have let this happen to Flowerpaw?" Pigeontalon asked with a hint of a snarl.
"It was just a fox attack." Badgerface replied confusion swimming in his eyes. "She had only received a bite to the back of her neck."
Pigeontalon leaped at Badgerface, her claws sliding out to slash his face. "Liar! You say that, but I know you know she off the cliff!"
Badgerface dodged the angered queens attack by stepping to the side and ran to the medicine cat den, after he pushed past Flowerpaw's family. He came to a halt when he saw Sandclaw and Leafstar bent over the cream and white tabby apprentice. Leafstar looked up at Badgerface and stiffly padded over. She sat down next to the shocked mentor and looked at the motionless form of Flowerpaw.
"What happened to her?" Badgerface asked his voice breaking.
"Lillyleap, Jaypaw, and Icestorm found her at the bottom of the cliff. They had thought that she was dead, but quickly saw the faint rise and fall of her chest. They brought her back here so that Sandclaw could take a look at her. He said that she was lucky enough to have survived that fall, but she has a broken back leg that could make her unable to become a warrior." Leafstar explained.
"What will she do if she can't become a warrior?"
"She will be given a warrior name, but will have to retire to the Elders den."
"You can't let that happen! She has to become a warrior no matter what!"
"I'm sorry Badgerface" She said shaking her head. "But it's in Starclan's paws now. Let Sandclaw deal with your wounds and get some rest."
Leafstar padded out of the den, leaving Badgerface alone with the pale brown Medicine Cat as he continued to treat Flowerpaw.
LATER THAT NIGHT
Badgerface was laying down in the Warriors den next to his father, Cloudheart. He hadn't been able to sleep at all like Leafstar told him, his thoughts had never left his apprentice ever since Leafstar had told him that Flowerpaw might not become a warrior. The very thought of it made him angry and grief-stricken that the young she-cat might be forced to live as an Elder.
"No! I wont let that happen to her! Deerpaw never got the chance to be one, but I will make sure that Flowerpaw will!"
He got out of his nest and went outside the den. Badgerface looked up at the sky to see the half-moon casting its bright light down into the gorge. Sandclaw would be at the Whispering Cave, so Badgerface would have a great opportunity to see his apprentice. He slid into the den and padded over to Flowerpaw's side. He was relieved to see that she was sleeping soundly. Badgerface then glanced down at her broken leg. It was in its correct position with two, relatively, straight sticks on both sides and is bounded in cob-webs. Flowerpaw then started fidgeting, her eyes shut tight, as if she was having a bad dream.
"I guess she is dreaming about the fox attack."
Badgerface laid down next to her and licked her head. She calmed down and went back to her restful sleep. Badgerface curled around Flowerpaw and laid his head by hers. A cloud uncovered the half-moon and its light shone down on Flowerpaws cream and tabby white pelt, giving her a silver shine.
"I love you Flowerpaw. I always have. I wont let anything hurt you like that ever again. And I promise that I will make sure that you become a warrior. Deerpaw never got to be one, but I will not let that happen to you."
Badgerface gave one last look at the sleeping apprentice and went to sleep next to her.
Authors Note:
Short chapter I know, but I couldn't figure out how to continue it. Now remember that the poll about if Blackbird should join the clan will be ending on February 15. So please remember to vote. Only five people have voted. Oh! I almost forgot! That contest I put on why I made Flowerpaw fall off the cliff. No one got it right. Only my friend in real life got it right. Thank you for all those who played the game, and congratulations Audrey! You have won a virtual Flowerpaw plushie!
