Chapter 7: The Set Up

Post Team announcements

Third person POV of Weiss

Weiss had to keep calm after the teams were announced because of two reasons. Firstly she was angry that an immature, young and naive girl was placed as her team leader instead of her. Weiss believed she was far more qualified than Ruby because of her training and the fact Weiss had completed her previous schooling, unlike Ruby who skipped two years of it. The second annoyance was the three people who showed up during the Initiation, they wield weapons and armour decades maybe even centuries ahead of Atlas' best and refused to let anyone touch their equipment (except for the incident in the Emerald Forrest with ruby).

All of this was running through Weiss' head whilst she and the rest of her team made their way to their dorm room. Once they arrived Weiss made a mental note of the room number whilst entering, only to place her bags at the foot of her bed and walked out. All the while Ruby protested until Weiss had turned the corner.

Weiss exited the building and walked towards Beacon cliff to gather her thoughts in peace. Once at the cliff, her mind started to wander back towards Sam, George and Gemini and to the technology that the wielded. She then came up with the idea that if they wouldn't give the technology willingly then she would have someone forcefully take it.

Weiss pulled out her scroll and called her father. Once the call connected she spoke up (the ellipsis is Jacques Schnee talking) "Hello Father … yes, I am aware that you said not to call- … Wait! Something happened at Beacon … no, not everything needs reporting but three people are attending and their armour uses a non-dust power source … yes, Father, they have powered armour that does not run off of lightning dust … they also use abilities that don't require an Aura or Semblance … their abilities are strong enough to squash an adult Deathstalker … yes, there's proof I will send you a video after our call … we should send our best men to capture both the armour and its users … very well, Father, I look forward to the advancements you can make from this … goodbye" (the ellipsis no longer mean Jacques is talking) Weiss ended the call and sent the video to her father. After a few minutes, her father responded with ' it will be done tomorrow night'. Weiss smiled and left for her dorm to get some rest.

Next Morning

Sam's (Excaliburs) POV

I opened my eyes and sat up, glancing at the clock on the wall. I find out that it was only 05:00 AM. A groan to my right lets me know George is awake and on my left, I can see Gemini sit up. We all left to do some early morning training.

After a jog around Beacon academy, we did 50 press-ups and the 50 sit-ups. Then came the part all Tenno look forward to sparing. We decided on a 2-on-1 hand to hand combat match: me versus George and Gemini.

The rules were simple. The first team for both combatants/ or myself to surrender or be rendered unfit for combat losses, with the winner being the team still standing. We assumed positions, George on my left and Gemini on my right. I shouted begin and the fight commenced.

Gemini was faster and so was the first to reach me, as she started with a left hook which I dodged and countered with a left jab aiming for just below the ribs she back stepped and avoided the jab.

Realising I didn't keep track of George, I looked left then right whilst keeping an eye on Gemini. I couldn't see him, but I immediately heard a few stones drag across the ground. I jumped and twisted my body, avoiding a low leg sweep from George. Whilst twisting, I extended my leg and caught George's mask causing him to stagger. Pushing the advantage I delivered a right hook followed up by a left hook, and to finish him off an uppercut. He fell to the ground, not getting up so I can tell that he went to say something and the uppercut caused his jaw so slam shut shaking his skull and causing him to pass out.

I immediately twist around to face Gemini, only to receive a turning kick to my right side. I stumbled a few steps left before recomposing myself. I watched as she started throwing a few hooks at me, and I backpedal to avoid the hooks and go for a leg sweep but as Gemini jumps I extended the leg supporting me and took her legs from under her. She fell down onto her ass and I dashed over and held her in a sleeper hold until she surrendered.

Upon releasing my hold on her she let out a disappointed sigh as if she was displeased with her performance. I decided to comfort her by telling her "you know you did pretty well for a rookie who was going up a CQC expert. I just wish George would try to learn some form of basic CQC." I groaned out the last part only to stop when Gemini gave a light chuckle. After our quick laugh, I went over to George and nudged his side with my foot. After no response, I decided to pull out the only thing guaranteed to wake him up: a bag of cookies and yell "I'm gonna eat your cookies!"

Instantly George was on his feet, giving me the stink eye through his mask before saying "I know you haven't got any cookies" I went to pull the bag of cookies up but before I can a certain scythe-wielding 15-year-old girl appeared next to George and stated "I heard cookies! Give me Cookies!" I sighed and presented the bag saying "share the contents between each other and I'll make more soon."

Soon enough all the cookies were either in George's mouth, Ruby's mouth or the ammo pouches on Ruby's person. I watched as they bickered about who had more cookies and I realised I need to check the time. When I did the clock read 7:45 AM, so me and Gemini headed to breakfast with George close behind and Ruby going back to her dorm room.

08:57 Grimm Studies

Sam's POV

We had been in the classroom for 12 minutes and had appropriated some seats close to the front of the room so that we could focus and learn about these new creatures. By now almost everyone had arrived and we were only missing teams RWBY and JNPR and in a twist of fate, both teams came barreling into the room with an almighty crash before clambering to their feet and finding seats.

Once everyone was seated the class began and we soon found out that it was useless to pay attention to this Professor Port as he only told stories about his time as a hunter. However, towards the end of the class Port listed of the attributes of a hunter then announced that he was going to have two students fight two different Grimm. Before he could ask anything George raised his hand and asked " Professor before you ask if anyone has these traits you said that a true huntsman must be humble. But in asking the question you are going to ask, anyone who raises their hand would not be humble because they believe that they are better than everyone else, meaning that the most humble would be the ones keeping their hands down." Port seemed to stop and contemplate this for a while obviously caught off guard by the question. He eventually responded with "yes, of course, it was merely a test to see if anyone would catch my bluff. But seen as you did can you come up and face the first beast?" George grunted before getting up and walking to the front of the room.

Port looked to George before questioning him about his weapons. In response, George bought his hand up and his Amp deployed from under his sleeve. Port nodded obviously thinking it was for show. That was until he opened the cage and an Ursa minor came out only to be cut in half by a purple beam of light that spewed from the Amp. Before the Ursa even hit the ground the Amp was retracted and George had started to walk back, only for Port to stop him and demand him to relinquish his weapon. George did, only it was larger than expected and the entire class could be heard gasping and so Port looked down only to see George's arm in his hand. Port gave it back immediately apologising for not asking more questions and George just waved it off reattaching his arm whilst leaving the room. Up next was Weiss versus a Boarbatusk. I only really paid attention to the fact Weiss only yelled at Ruby and at the end, Weiss stormed out with Ruby in tow only to turn and yell at Ruby leaving Ruby looking upset. I left Gemini to comfort Ruby and look for George.

Just after sundown

Sam's Pov

I was sitting next to George, our Warframes next to us in the meditating position. We had just finished testing our abilities with a disturbing result that Rhino could no longer use Rhino Charge or Roar and I could not use Slash Dash or Radial Javelin. I was about to speak when something hit my neck and upon pulling it out it looked like a dart of some kind. Then my eyes started to feel heavy and I passed out murmuring as I do "run George". There is a barely audible sound of gunfire before I lose conscience.
