Chapter 7: Villains Fall, Heroes Rise!
(Ra Yellow Dorm)
With the completion of the expulsion duels, Ben could finally go back to trying to keep his grades up. All of the excitement going around made him feel like he was out of his concentration. As such, he was hitting the books when he could both inside and outside of class. However, as much as he tried to keep studying, his mind was still on the concept of who was trying to get Jaden expelled and almost took Syrus and himself with him. His first guess was Dr. Crowler since the man seemed to be especially enthusiastic about the expulsion duels and how Jaden had to duel Chazz in the promotion exams. He definitely had motive since Jaden had kicked his butt at the entrance exams. The funny thing was that Jaden never seemed to notice that anyone seemed to be holding a grudge to him. Still, Ben didn't like it when someone tried to do something mean to his friends. Of course, another thing that was throwing Ben off was his dorm mates. Several of them had seen Jasmine leave that morning when she came over for a visit. Everyone was assuming that the pair were in a relationship, which made Ben something of an idol figure. Since Jasmine was friends with Alexis, several Ra boys were hoping for tips on how to woo the Obelisk girl or any Obelisk girl in general. Of course, Ben denied anything as serious as the Ra boys were hinting at. Sure, he was attracted to Jasmine and respected her as a good duelist, but he hadn't considered the idea of having his first official girlfriend since he came to Duel Academy...yet. He was always in the middle of some test or important duel. Of course, remembering how Jasmine hugged him when he won the expulsion duel was enough of a tip off to how she felt.
"Might as well get to class. I'm not going to get any thinking done here." groaned Ben as he rubs his eyes. Packing up his books, Ben headed out for the main Academy building. His cards were in his pocket as always. They were always comforting to have around. It was certainly a good thing to have as he spent his days at the Academy. As he walked into class, he resigned himself to another day of learning and work.
(Academy Gym)
It was Gym time today and the two of the schools dorms were currently playing America's favorite pastime, Baseball! Of course, Ben would've preferred to play soccer if they had the necessary equipment. It was currently the Slifer boys versus the Ra boys as the Slifers were up to bat, while the Ras were in the outfield. All the guys were currently in their white and blue gym clothes with the Slifers were red bandanas on their arms and the Ras wearing yellow ones. It was currently the top of the ninth, with the Slifers leading 3–0. There were two outs and the second and third were bases loaded. Next up to bat, Jaden Yuki!
"Jaden, keep your eye on the ball!" coached Syrus.
"Heh, it'll be hard to do to that. After I hit the ball out of the park, we'll have a six run lead!" gloated Jaden.
"You wish Jaden. All it takes is three strikes and you're out!" replied Ben. Jaden turned to see Ben, playing catcher for the Yellow team.
"Like how I stuck you out, the past three innings?" taunted Jaden. The Alien Hero duelist growled as he remembered how he kept swinging and missed.
"Hold on! Time out!" called out a voice, running into the baseball field, Bastion Misawa.
"I was deep into some ATK point quantum mechanics and lost track of time." explained Bastion as he took deep breaths.
"Can ya throw? (Bastion nods) Well, we need a fresh arm… Pitcher change!" shouted the tired pitcher who left the field for Bastion to take the mound.
"This isn't a written exam, Bastion! I hope you know what you're getting into!" smirked Jaden.
"Oh, with Bastion pitching now, it's over…" snickered Ben.
"I believe Benjamin is right, Jaden. (gets ready to throw.) Now get ready; this is coming in red hot!" quipped Bastion who didn't even need to wait for the signals as he launched a fast ball, straight down the middle. Jaden missed and Ben caught it.
"Strike one! (Jaden misses the next fast ball) Strike two! (Jaden misses the last fast ball) Strike three, you're out!" announced Ben.
"Nuts!" shouted Jaden.
"I told ya that it's over once Bastion's pitching." smirked Ben, taking off the catcher's gear.
"And if you think his pitching's great, wait 'til you see him bat!" suggested Ben as he left for the sidelines to wait his turn to bat.
"Yeah, we'll see…" said Jaden as he took the pitcher's mound, and Syrus took his place as the catcher.
(Ten minutes later)
At the bottom of the ninth, Jaden already struck out the first two batters. But he then he started get sloppy, for some reason.
"Ball 4, take your base!" announced an unknown student. For the next three batters, with Ben being the third, he walked them all intentionally.
"Time! (Slifers huddled) Jaden, what happened? You got two outs, and walked the last three batters!" asked Syrus.
"Pretty slick, right?" smirked Jaden.
"Slick?" asked all the Slifers.
"Yeah, it was the only way to pitch Bastion!" admitted Jaden.
"What?! You walked all those guys to get even with Bastion?!" asked Syrus.
"Nah, I wanna get ahead! You hear that Bastion?! You're going down!" declared Jaden as Bastion took his place at bat. Bastion put on his helmet and smiled.
"Down the base line perhaps. Now give your best, Jaden! That is even you can get the ball over the plate." replied Bastion.
"You want it!? You got it!" cried Jaden as he pitched a fast curve-ball, hoping to get Bastion to swing and miss. He swung, but it hit!
(Meanwhile)
Dr. Crowler was passing by the field trying to think of his next move on getting Jaden kicked out…
"The Paradox Brothers couldn't beat Jaden! Chazz couldn't beat Jaden! Titan couldn't beat Jaden! I need someone who can beat Ja… AAH!" muttered Crowler before he was interrupted by a ball straight to his left eye, knocking him into the baseball equipment.
"Heads up!" cried Jaden. Crowler popped out of the pile and saw Jaden and Syrus. When the Slifers realized who was hit, they freaked.
"IT'S YOU! WHO ELSE WOULD CAUSE SUCH INTENSE PAIN?!" cried Crowler.
"That's keeping your eye on the ball." quipped Syrus, as Crowler had the ball lodged in the eye.
"Sorry. It was…" paused Jaden as Bastion came up to them.
"My fault! I was the one who hit the ball." admitted Bastion.
"Of course! (smiles) Here I was looking for a new accomplice and here it hits me right in the face! Well the eye, but that's beside the point." chuckled Crowler.
"Dr. Crowler, accept my apologies." apologized Bastion, bowing in respect.
"No, no, no, I've been meaning to have my contacts refitted for ages and now I have the perfect excuse." waved off Crowler.
'And a new protege to back me up!' thought Crowler.
"Huh?" blinked the Slifer duo. Crowler jumped, he forgotten that Jaden and Syrus were still there.
"DO YOU TWO MIND?!" shouted Crowler.
"Sorry. See ya, later Bastion!" waved the Slifer duo before they ran off.
"You really shouldn't be associating yourselves with those slackers. I think it's time you associate yourself with someone more on your level… like me." grinned Crowler.
(Academy Classroom)
Later on, Ben was sitting by himself in the classroom as he was waiting for Crowler to be finished talking with Bastion seeing as that he was the next teacher. He was pondering on what Crowler was up to this time.
'What are you up to this time Crowler?' thought Ben. Ben then heard the door open, but it wasn't Crowler that came through the door, but instead it was the hot–headed Chazz Princeton.
"Oh great, the true King of Games is here…" waved Ben sarcastically. Chazz entered the classroom and sat down towards the top of the stadium–style room.
"It's good to be at the top. Yo, foot rub and an ice tea, pronto!" commanded Chazz while snapping his fingers.
"Get it yourself!" snapped a random Obelisk student.
"What did you say? Go on, say it again; I don't think I heard you." asked Chazz angrily.
"Chazz, what are you doing?" asked another Obelisk student asked, walking up to him.
"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm sitting in my seat." answered Chazz rhetorically.
"That's not your seat anymore." informed the Obelisk.
"You idiot, this seat is mine, I even have a name tag right… (looks to see that the name tag that he put there personally to show everyone that only he was supposed to sit there was gone!) "What the–!" cried Chazz.
"I think you'll find your name tag down there." informed the Obelisk as he pointed to a seat towards the bottom near the Ra Yellows. And it was in front of where Ben was sitting.
"You got to be kidding! I would rather bathe in Stinkfly's goo than sit with the snobbish prince!" cried Ben.
"No way, this has to be some mistake! The next King of Games shouldn't sit with third–rate no–names!" snapped Chazz, ignoring Ben's complaint. It was then that Dr. Crowler, now sporting a shiner from being hit with the ball, walked into the classroom.
"Dr. Crowler, what's the meaning of this? I don't deserve to sit with the losers!" complained Chazz.
"Oh I wouldn't say that, Chazz. After all, it was a loser that beat you… what was his name… oh yeah, Jaden Yuki… A SLIFER!" cried Crowler.
'Geez… you make it sound like he went up to the original King of Games and called him a loser.' thought Ben.
"That's why tomorrow you're going to duel Bastion Misawa and if you lose to him as well, you two switch dorms!" announced Crowler. Chazz gasped as the dilemma he was in.
"You mean… I'd become a Ra Reject?!" shouted Chazz.
"I guess you're not as half as dumb as you pretend to be, Chazz." said Crowler, even applauding in amusement. Chazz growled in embarrassment with most of the class laughing, Chazz fled the room.
"I WON'T BE A RA!" cried Chazz.
"Well… that's one mystery solved." said Ben as Jasmine sat beside him.
"He deserved it. Fair is fair, after all. That sorry excuse for an Obelisk just reaped what he sowed." quipped Jasmine. Ben nodded in agreement with the Obelisk girl. Chazz deserved everything he got. It was just karma paying him back for being such an overconfident jerk.
"And you! Mr. Tennyson!" called out Crowler, suddenly making the teen in question shortly jump.
"Uh… y–yes?" asked Ben nervously.
"I want to speak with you after class today." said Crowler.
"Did I do something wrong?" asked Ben.
"Nothing. Just want to chat." answered Crowler.
(Outside the Academy)
Later on, Bastion, Syrus and Jaden had their free time, and were currently heading to the Ra dorm.
"Okay, so maybe that last one wasn't a foul ball." said Jaden, talking about the earlier baseball game.
"Jaden, over the center field fence normally isn't." added Syrus.
"I play like I duel. (shows him a baseball bat with formulas written on it.) You see, I find that statistics, geometry, mathematics, we use all of them in our daily lives." explained Bastion.
"You know, I never thought of it that way." admitted Jaden.
"So do you have a formula for everything?" asked Syrus.
"I'll show you." chuckled Bastion.
"Hey guys." greeted a familiar voice. Jaden, Syrus, and Bastion turned to see Ben running towards them.
"Hey Ben." greeted the trio.
"Finished with class?" asked Bastion.
"Yep. What are you guys up to?" asked Ben.
"We're just about to head into Bastion's dorm room and see it. Want to come?" asked Jaden.
"I've already seen it, like at least once a week." shrugged Ben. The other three nodded before they went on their way to Bastion's room.
"So what's it like?" asked Jasmine from behind Ben, making him jump back in fright.
"Geez, Jasmine. You could've given me a heart attack." frowned Ben as he covers the heart area for emphasis.
"Sorry. (giggles) You still didn't answer my question." smiled Jasmine before Ben sighed.
"It has a lot of formulas written on the walls. I had to use my pillows to mute the scratching." admitted Ben.
"Does he do it everyday?" asked Jasmine.
"Not sure. Like I said, I only see it at least once a week, so I couldn't find out the daily changes." answered Ben before he heard a growling sound.
"Sorry, I'm kind of hungry." admitted Jasmine as she covers her stomach.
"Okay, see you later." waved Ben as he left. Jasmine was about to go after him until her stomach growled again.
(Ra Yellow Cafeteria)
After a ceasefire, Bastion, Jaden and Syrus got done painting Bastion's room and after cleaning up themselves, Bastion invited his two helpers to the Ra Yellow cafeteria along with Ben. Jaden and Syrus practically stormed over to the buffet line and grabbed some fish before sitting down in front of the two Ras and started chowing down. Bastion chuckled as he went to get his dinner as Ben sat down with his dinner and smoothies in tow and practically stared at Jaden and Syrus's eating habits.
"Are… you guys okay?" asked Ben concerned.
"I don't think I ever had such a good time eating!" Jaden said as he stuffed some fish into his mouth.
"Bastion, Ben, you guys are alright." complimented Jaden.
"Yeah. And so is Ra Yellow's food!" smiled Syrus.
"Oh, you flatter us. (brings over his lobster dinner.) "But I'm sure it's not all that much better than Slifer." said Bastion modestly. Jaden and Syrus's eyes bugged out upon seeing the lobster.
"Trust me, the closest thing we have to fish is Banner's cat's breath." said Jaden.
"Wow, now I understand why you eat like a pack of Wildmutts." said Ben looking at them in disbelief.
"By the way Bastion. What were you talking with Crowler about back at the ball field?" asked Syrus.
"Actually, he wants me to test to be an Obelisk." answered Bastion.
"Are you serious?!" asked Syrus amazed.
"It's true. Heard from Dr. Crowler himself in class today. Chazz is his test opponent and if Bastion wins, he and Chazz switch dorms." answered Ben.
"Is that why you were cleaning your room, because you were switching dorms? Well congratulations, Bastion, you deserve it." complimented Jaden.
"Again, you flatter me." replied Bastion, trying to endure the praise.
"But you deserve it, bro! I saw you duel at the entrance exam. You kicked that Duel Proctor's butt! You'll be a shoe–in to pass Crowler's test!" exclaimed Jaden.
"Well thank you." thanked Bastion with a nod.
"And he's not the only one that's going to be tested for Obelisk Blue. (Jaden, Syrus, and Bastion turn to him.) I am too." grinned Ben.
"Really?!" gaped the three of them.
"Yep. Apparently, Crowler has given me this test as a way of congratulating me on my Expulsion Duel last week, and defeating Predabern. " explained Ben.
"Wow! That's great man! You deserve it!" grinned Jaden.
"The color isn't so much of an issue with me, but it does feel nice to have my efforts acknowledged." grinned Ben, not wanting to tell them about his hatred for the red color for a few reasons.
"I can't believe Crowler allowed it though." commented Syrus.
"Well, he has been suspended from his duties in Obelisk Blue. Miss Fontaine now holds responsibility for both dorms now remember? It's up to her who gets promotional exams now." explained Bastion.
"True." shrugged Ben.
(Outside the Academy)
Later, Ben was sitting under a tree alone, waiting for someone. He does enjoy some company, sometimes he just liked to sit alone and think about his family. His last few duels had been high risk ones. The ones against Predabern and Mako were the toughest duels he'd ever faced but he still came out on top.
"Wonder what else will happen in this school?" sighed Ben.
"Hey, Ben!" said a familiar voice. Ben looked over to see Jasmine running over and she was carrying a picnic basket.
"Hey, Jasmine!" waved Ben. When she stopped he stood up.
"What's with the basket?" asked Ben.
"Oh, just some lunch I packed up. I was (blush) kind of hoping if you'd like to share. I think I packed a little too much." smiled Jasmine.
"I don't think it's that mu-" started Ben.
"I got canned smoothies." interrupted Jasmine. In the first week of school, Jasmine 'accidentally' discovered Ben's weakness. Yes, it's smoothies.
"OF COURSE!" exclaimed Ben with stars in his eyes. How much could she have brought? It doesn't matter for Ben, since all he care about are the smoothies she has. Of course, when Jasmine unrolled the picnic blanket and pulled out something out of a five-star restaurant, he was beginning to realize what the Obelisk Blue girl had in mind. Resigning himself to it, he took a seat on the blanket and decided to help himself, along with hogging the canned smoothies. As expected of Obelisk Blue cooks, the quality was much higher than anything Ra Yellow had. It almost made the cooked lobster and shrimp taste like slop.
"Oh wow." said Ben.
"Good huh?" smiled Jasmine as she helped herself to some of her own food.
"Say, do you know what Chazz's problem was today? Most of the male students have been laughing at him for some reason. As usual, he's in one of his bad moods and won't talk to anyone. Not even his two henchmen." asked Jasmine.
"Oh, well since he lost to Jaden, Chazz is being tested in a duel against Bastion Misawa." explained Ben.
"Wait a minute. Bastion is the guy who gave Professor Crowler that black eye with a baseball?" asked Jasmine.
"That's the one. Well, this is Chazz's big chance to prove he has what it takes to be in Obelisk Blue. If he can't beat Bastion, then he's going to be demoted down to Ra Yellow and Bastion is going to get promoted to Obelisk Blue. With the way Chazz bolted from class, he acted like being in Ra Yellow was like getting a disease from Stinkfly's goo. Of course, running from the room screaming probably didn't help his image much." explained Ben.
"Jeez, what a drama king. Well, he may be one of the top ranked duelists in Obelisk Blue, but his attitude really stinks." insulted Jasmine.
"No kidding. And you know what else...?" started Ben. As the pair were chatting and eating the amazing food, they didn't know that they were being spied on. In some bushes a few feet away, Mindy and Alexis were watching them. Mindy had an impish grin on her face while Alexis had moderate amusement on hers. The duo saw their friend fill a basket with their best food before heading out. Since Mindy were curious, Alexis got dragged along with her. She loved romantic stuff like this and Alexis was just making sure that she stayed out of trouble.
"Why are we spying like this? We already now they like each other." whispered Alexis.
"You didn't see what I saw in her notebook." giggled Mindy as she handed a piece of paper to her blonde friend.
Alexis took the paper and examined it before her eyes got wide. All over the sides of the paper were little doodles and hearts that were all seen in every girl who had a big crush. She had seen Mindy do it with several boys during the time she knew her. In this case, there were hearts with B+J in them or the name Jasmine Tennyson written on the sides. Other little doodles were chibi-fied pictures of Ben wearing outfits similar to the Alien Heroes with a chibi-fied Jasmine in his arms.
"She's got it bad. But then why are we spying?" quietly giggled Alexis.
"We want to see how strong Ben feels back for her. Then we can plan on how to get them to confess to each other." answered Mindy.
"So, you're going to be the meddling matchmaker." stated Alexis.
"Hey, Jasmine's our best friend just like you, so we got to help her find love." smiled Mindy.
'Just like Jasmine and I will do with Alexis and Jaden.' thought Mindy.
"And what about your love life?" teased Alexis. Mindy quieted down.
(The Docks)
The next day there was trouble. While heading over to the Slifer Dorms to see how Jaden and the others were doing, Ben spotted them at the lighthouse with Ms. Dorothy the card shop owner looking out at the water. Curious, he went over to see what was going on. Getting closer to what was happening, he spotted a deck's worth of Duel Monster cards floating in the water. He didn't recognize a few of them, but he did spot the Ring of Destruction, Ring of Defense and Vorse Raider floating in the water. Some of the cards even had math calculations on them.
"Don't tell me. (gasp) Bastion, were these your cards?" asked Ben.
"Indeed. (sigh) It's my own fault. I left my deck out in the desk we moved out of my room so the paint could dry." frowned Bastion.
"Oh man, and your promotion duel is in an hour! What are you going to do Bastion?" asked Syrus. The Ra Yellow student remained silent. Ben was just as calm.. on the outside. He couldn't believe that someone would disrespect cards like this. Ben treated every card like it was his best friend. His fists clenched as he felt his anger boil over at this…insult to another duelist.
'When I find out who did this, I'm going to give them a piece of my soccer practice on the butt.' mentally threatened Ben.
"Hey Ben. You live next to Bastion, right? Did you hear anything?" asked Syrus.
"No. (sigh). Even if I did, I probably would have assumed it was another Ra Yellow student coming back late or something." answered Ben.
"Still, who would do something like this?" asked Ms. Dorothy.
"Obviously someone who doesn't want Bastion to duel. And I think we can all agree on the one person who has lots to gain if Bastion can't make it to his next duel." frowned Ben.
"CHAZZ!" gasped the group.
"Yup, he didn't want to risk losing his place so he decided to cheat and get rid of Bastion's deck. I've always known he was the prince of slimeballs." said Ben.
"So, Chazz is gonna force Bastion to forfeit and win by default? No fair!" complained Syrus.
"Hey, if he can't win fairly, he'll win unfairly. It happens. So, Bastion, what are you going to do now?" asked Ben.
"It's alright. This is a small problem and I've got a solution. Now, let's get to that duel, shall we?" asked Bastion. Ben nodded, smiling along with Bastion, thinking the exact same thing.
(Main Dueling Arena)
Ben, Jaden, Syrus, and Bastion soon arrived at the Main Dueling Arena where the promotion exams will be taken. Miss Fontaine, Dr. Crowler and Chazz were there along with Jasmine.
"Ah, Bastion, you arrived." said Crowler. But then frowned a bit, when he saw Jaden and Syrus.
"And I see that you've brought some friends with you to watch." observed Crowler.
"Hey guys!" waved Jasmine to Jaden, Syrus, Ben, and Bastion.
"I can't believe you Chazz! I thought you were low, but to go this low? You would throw away your opponent's Deck into the ocean before he can duel you? How low can you get?" growled Jaden.
"What?!" shouted Jasmine.
"Excuse me?!" asked Miss Fontaine shocked.
"Pardon?!" asked Crowler in genuine disbelief.
"I don't know what he's talking about, I didn't do a thing." denied Chazz.
"Is that so?" asked a familiar voice. Everyone turned to see who had spoke and they found Alexis and Zane. Both of them were glaring holes into Chazz from where they had entered the arena.
"Alexis? Zane?" asked Jaden in confusion.
'So this is the enigmatic Zane Truesdale. He's got the look of a powerful duelist at least.' thought Ben.
"I saw you out there last night. This morning out by the lighthouse, I saw you toss those cards out into the water before you ran for it. I don't usually snitch, but if there's one thing you don't do, it's messing with another duelist's deck!" frowned Alexis. Everyone present realized that they now had Chazz in the act. Even Crowler looked less than impressed with the accusations that were being thrown at his opponent. Chazz just looked like he was going to burst a vein from being so angry.
"No kidding. Only the lowest duelists do stuff like that." growled Jaden.
"Oh come on. Who's to say those cards weren't mine? I guess Bastion and I just have similar decks." snorted Chazz.
"LIAR!" snapped Jaden angrily.
"Hey! No one calls me a liar and NO ONE calls me a thief!" growled Chazz angrily.
"Fine, you aren't one. Let's just duel, shall we?" frowned Bastion.
"But how are you going to do that Bastion? You don't have a deck." reminded Jaden, making Ben and Bastion grin.
"A good duelist always has more than one deck. (unbuttons his jacket.) "You remember those calculations in my room, correct? Well, those weren't just for my one deck, they were for ALL my dueling decks! Each one as powerful as the others!" cried Bastion. Bastion opened his jacket to reveal six deck holsters underneath the yellow uniform. Each of the holsters were filled with a deck that Bastion had created himself through endless calculations on trap, monsters, and spell cards. If they were anything like the deck Bastion had used to battle the proctor, Ben didn't think Chazz was going to have an easy time as he had first assumed. In fact, it was probably going to be harder than he expected.
'Let's see if your self-believed Obelisk superiority gets you through this, Snazzton Prince.' through Ben.
"You knew the whole time, didn't you, Ben?" deadpanned Syrus as everyone noticed Ben's grin.
"I didn't want to spoil the surprise." said Ben with his arms up.
"Fine, you got more decks! So what? Doesn't mean you'll win." gloated Chazz.
"We'll see about that (attaches his duel disk to his arm.) Shall we?" asked Bastion.
"Lets." frowned Chazz as he inserted his deck and activated his disc. Bastion did the same. The two boys stood across from each other as their Duel Discs really kicked into high gear.
(After the duel in the episode, Formula For Success)
"A lucky draw, that's it! You drew the right card and stumbled into the win!" snapped Chazz.
"Hardly. Fortune favors the prepared though. If the duel hadn't turned out this way I would have had over half a dozen other ways to beat you. Still, deny it all you want. Just like you denied throwing my deck into the ocean." frowned Bastion.
"Oh yeah? Prove it!" snapped Chazz.
"If you insist. "THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING TO ME!" yelled Chazz. Miss Fontaine crossed her arms, feeling most impatient with Chazz's actions. The boy was hailed as one of the best freshmen of the new school year. Yet, when it started to look like he was being challenged the boy seemed to crumble and panic by using absolutely any means possible to win. What was Crowler doing when he was in charge of the Obelisk boys? Did he turn a blind eye to anything they did simply because of his elitist views on the Obelisks? Miss Fontaine had expected a level of behavior from her girls in the girl's dorm. If she heard about someone bullying other students or heaven forbid attempting to cheat in duels she would bring the hammer down and hard!
"That's enough Mr. Princeton! (frowns while walking towards the now former Obelisk.) You lost. It happens in duels and despite what you seem to think it can happen to you too. Instead of trying to sharpen your skills though, it seems you've done everything in your power to win without even trying! Normally I'd have you investigated for cheating, especially since Bastion and Benjamin have proof of your attempt to cheat. Instead, maybe working your way back up from Ra Yellow will give you some decent work ethic. (turns to Bastion.) Bastion, Congratulations, and welcome to Obelisk Blue." smiled Miss Fontaine.
"Thank you, Miss Fontaine but I'm afraid I must decline the invitation." said Bastion.
"WHAT?!" shouted the audience, except for Miss Fontaine, not believing what they heard.
"Oh? And why's that?" asked Miss Fontaine.
"When I first arrived at this Academy, I made a promise that I would only enter Obelisk Blue when I become the number one student in the freshman class. (turns to Jaden.) Jaden, of all the new students, I think that number one student is you." explained Bastion.
"Hurtful." muttered Ben with crossed arms while Jasmine pats him on the back.
"Don't worry, Ben. In my book, you'll always be the best freshman." complimented Jasmine with a blush, trying to cheer Ben up. Ben uncrossed his arms and nodded with a blush.
"Hey thanks, does that mean you want to settle this right here? I mean seeing you guys duel really made me want to get my game on." asked Jaden.
"Sorry, but not now." apologized Bastion.
"Why not?" groaned Jaden.
"Because I have a lot of work to do before I duel you, many formulas to write, theorems to solve, equations to bounce. You're a good Duelist and I want to be ready. Soon my dorm room walls will be filled with new problems and equations and we will have our duel. But until then… (turns to Ben giving him a small smile to his fellow Ra who could possibly be Obelisk Blue.) Let's have Benjamin have his shot to be Obelisk Blue. He's earned it." nodded Bastion.
"Wait, Ben is being tested too?" asked Alexis, who was a bit surprised.
"Yeah, you didn't hear? Crowler himself told me. I accepted his offer of taking the test. So let's do this!" grinned Ben.
"Good luck then." said Alexis as Ben took his place on the platform. Jasmine took her place as well.
"So you're ready Jasmine?" asked Ben.
"That's right! And I'm not gonna hold back! My Harpies and I are gonna hit ya with everything we got!" grinned Jasmine.
"I wouldn't have it any other way." smirked Ben as he took his Deck out of his deck box. He placed his Deck in the deck slot and the Duel Disk went from standby to active. Jasmine did the same thing as well. Both players then drew their starting Hand.
"DUEL/IT'S HERO TIME!" cried Jasmine and Ben.

"Then I activate the spell, Elegant Egotist! This card can help me search for another Harpie Lady or the Sisters and Special Summon it from my hand or deck so I choose the Harpie Lady Sisters in ATK mode!" shouted Jasmine before a trio of Harpies then appeared.

"I set one card face-down and end my turn!" finished Jasmine as she sets a card. Ben drew a card before he looked at his hand with a smirk.
"I summon Alien Hero Ditto in Defense Mode!" cried Ben as Classic Ditto appears on one knee.

"HE'S SOOOOOOOOO CUUUUUUUTE!" squealed Miss Fontaine, Jasmine and Alexis simultaneously with blushes and cupping their cheeks, making the males cover their ears due to the volume.
"Good thing Mindy decided to stay at her dorm, otherwise the increased volume would make us deaf." noted Bastion. As soon as the squealing subsided, the males uncovered their ears.
"I'll end my turn with two face-downs." stated Ben as he sets two cards.
"I draw!" called out Jasmine. Her hand was now at four as she examined it.
"I send Harpie Queen to my graveyard to add a Harpies Hunting Ground from my deck to my hand which I now play and thanks to this, if I Normal or Special Summon a Harpie Lady monster, I can destroy 1 Spell or Trap on the field and all Winged Beast monsters gain 200 ATK and DEF!" explained Jasmine as the normal spacious Duelling Exam Room changed to become a rather open wide area with a blue sky and the dirty ground.

"Next I play Double Summon, summoning Harpie Ladies 2 and 3 in Attack mode and thanks to this Field Spell, I can destroy your left face-down card while they gain 200 ATK and DEF from the Hunting Ground!" declared Jasmine as the other two winged women, one orange-haired and one spiky haired , appeared from the sky and Ben's left face-down was destroyed by the effect.

"I activate Pot of Greed to draw two cards, then allow my Harpie Lady Sisters to attack your cute hero." declared Jasmine as Harpie Lady Sisters formed a triangle position before the middle of the triangle fired an energy beam, destroying Ditto and consuming Ben's field in smoke. When the smoke cleared, everyone (except Ben) stared wide-eyed at the TWO Dittos.

"Two Dittos? How is that possible?" asked Jasmine amazed.
"Technically, they're Ditto Tokens, and it's possible because Ditto's special ability allows them to become summoned when he's destroyed." smirked Ben.
"Of course! The word ditto means a similar thing or duplicate! His name says it all." commented Bastion.
"Still, your tokens can't be defended against Harpie Ladies 1 and 2." declared Jasmine as Harpie Lady 1 destroys the left token while Harpie Lady 2 destroys the right token. Before Jasmine can celebrate her short victory, FOUR Dittos appeared on Ben's field.

"Thanks for strengthening my defenses, of course you didn't do it on purpose since you never knew that the Ditto Tokens has the same effect as the original." smirked Ben.
"With those Ditto Tokens on the field, Ben's defense can rebuild itself." commented Fontaine.
"I end my turn." frowned Jasmine. Ben nodded before he drew his card.
"I sacrifice two Ditto Tokens to tribute summon Alien Hero Four Arms in Attack Mode." declared Ben as two Dittos disappear only to be replaced by Four Arms.

"I change my remaining Ditto Tokens to Attack Mode. Four Arms, destroy Harpie Lady 1 with Seismic Clap." ordered Ben as Four Arms claps all his hands, creating a seismic wave that destroyed Harpie Lady 1.

"And without Harpie Lady 1, your monsters' Attack points are weakened by 300." noted Ben.

"This is risky. Now that Harpie Lady 3 is destroyed, the Ditto Token that destroyed it can't attack for 2 turns." noted Bastion.
"I end my turn." said Ben. Jasmine drew her card.
"I activate Hysteric Party, now all I need to do is discard one card in my hand and then I can Special Summon as many Harpie Ladies as I want, so I send another Harpie Lady 2 and bring back Harpie Queen, Harpie Ladies 1, 2 and 3!" declared Jasmine as a whole bunch of Harpies, consisting of the previous three he had seen so far and a long, green-haired Harpie.

"It gets 300 Attack points for every Harpie Lady on my field, and I count 3. Now I end my turn." explained Jasmine. Ben frowned as he draws his card.
'This dragon is even tougher than her Baby Dragon from last time. If I use Four Arms to destroy any of the Harpies, then she'll replace it next turn.' thought Ben before he looks at his drawn card with a smirk.
"That Dragon won't be here for long because I activate the Field Spell, Primus." said Ben as the scenery changes to a pale brown volcano with green lava, destroying the hunting ground.

"Because of this Field Spell, my monsters gain a 1000 Attack point boost when they attack a monster stronger than them. And I'll demonstrate it by having Four Arms attack your dragon." smirked Ben as Four Arms performs his Seismic Clap, destroying the red dragon.

"Ditto Tokens 1, 2 and 3, destroy those Harpie Ladies." ordered Ben as the Dittos and Harpie Ladies punch each others' fists, destroying them in the process.
"Why are those Ditto Tokens destroyed? Shouldn't Primus strengthen them to be 1000 Attack points stronger?" asked Syrus.
"That won't work if both sides have equal attack points. The field spell doesn't effect monsters with at least equal attack points." answered Alexis before three more Ditto Tokens appeared.

"Why are there only three Ditto Tokens created? Shouldn't there be six of them?" asked Jaden.
"Jaden, you can only have up to 5 monsters on the field, and since 3 Ditto Tokens were destroyed, they only duplicated once." answered Bastion.
"Alright, Ditto Tokens on the left, attack Jasmine directly with Double Clothesline." ordered Ben as the Ditto Tokens on the left linked their arms together before they leapt toward Jasmine and hit her.

The duel disks deactivated, the holograms disappeared, and Ben just stood there. He knew he was gonna win and he did it. He won. Turning to his friends, he saw them all cheering and whistling out their congratulations.
"All right Ben! You did it!" cheered Jaden.
"Way to play!" grinned Syrus.
"Well played." grinned Bastion. Zane crossed his arms at the sight, but those that knew him best could tell that there was approval there. Ben was one of those precious few who earned their place in Obelisk Blue, not buy their way in or use something other than skill to get there.
"Great job!" said Jasmine as she nearly catapulted into him as she gave him a congratulatory hug and kiss even though she had lost, and soon the two were joined by their closest friends.
"I must say that was impressive. Certainly more than good enough to prove you're capable of being in Obelisk Blue! Congratulations on entering Obelisk Blue!" applauded Fontaine.
"Ah… yeah." blinked Ben, still amazed that he had managed to prove himself up for promotion.
"Yes. Congratulations. I think this promotion is definitely worth the prize for your victory last week." smiled Crowler.
"Yeah, you definitely earned the promotion!" said Jaden.
"You sure did. Congratulations." smiled Jasmine.
"Thanks Jasmine." said Ben. Jasmine couldn't help but giggle at what he said.
"You earned it. How about we get you fitted for a blue blazer?" asked Alexis.
"Yeah, sure. And after that, we party!" cheered Ben as he took out a stereo and held it above his head a full blast, echoing was the music "Hero" by Skillet with Ben singing to it along with Jaden, who also liked the song.

While Ben was continuing singing the song with Jaden, Jasmine, and Alexis joining in, the rest of company along with Miss Fontaine and Crowler were covering their ears because they're just like Bastion as they all went out of the arena to celebrate with Ben on his promotion. All but one person… Chazz. He was still seething from the defeat Bastion handed to him.

"First I get demoted… And now that Alien Hero Reject gets promoted. Well fine! If Duel Academy won't acknowledge the talent and skill I have, then I'll just go someplace that will! This crummy cut–rate school won't give me the respect I deserve? Fine! I'm outta here then!" snarled Chazz.
