I know its been a while. But that's what happens when you rewrite a chapter 6 times...I'm not 100% satisfied with the chapter but I think it hits all the points it needs to. I don't promise any specific times on updates because of, you know, life stuff. But I will be slowly, and I mean slowly, making more and more chapters as well as a One shot that has been in the works for god knows how long. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the this chapter. And as always reviews are appreciated. Thanks!
Ch7
Psychiatrist Office, Black Stone Prison | 3 days after Times Square Brawl
Mindy was escorted deep into the prison, only being here a couple of days the prison was vastly unexplored to her. As she neared a pristine wooden door, which felt out of play within the sterile white floors and walls, the door opened to reveal a short portly man. The man gestured for Mindy to come inside and sit in an overly large chair.
Mindy hesitantly walked into the room which was decorated in a way she would think all overly educated people had their offices. Certificates and Diplomas covered the beige walls, shelves covered in books covered everything else and there was a fireplace in the corner.
"A fucking fireplace in a prison physiatrists' office? Who does that?" Mindy thought to herself as she sat down. Her bottom sinking into the chair cushions leaving her feet unable to touch the floor.
The portly man sat down in an equally oversized chair and cleared his throat.
"Good afternoon, Miss McCready. My name is Doctor Alphonse Roth and I'll be helping you throughout your stay at Black Stone Prison." The portly Doctor smiled and adjusted his reading glasses. Opening the file on his lap, he reverts his attention back to Mindy.
"Who says I need help?" Mindy grumbles defensively, folding her arms as she sinks deeper into her 'less than enthused' position. "I was doing just fine until I was brought here."
"Miss McCready, with all due respect, by no means were you doing 'fine'." Doctor Roth adjusts his glasses again and looks at the file on his lap. "It seems there isn't much in your file, other than recent school and medical records, some extracurricular records but nothing much before that, which can be considered a good thing", Dr. Roth smiles again, "But what I find interesting are the most recent additions to your file; it does say in here is that you have been quite busy being the dangerous vigilante known as Hit-Girl…until you were apprehended during the incident in Time Square, not even a week ago." Dr. Roth closed the file and looked at Mindy, "From what I hear, you were quite valiant."
Mindy didn't say anything. She knew he was being nice, perhaps buttering her up, before he started asking deeper and more personal questions.
"Ms. McCready, I-"
"Mindy is fine", Mindy interrupts, "this going to be a long 45 minutes if we keep up with the formalities. And I have a shower coming up after this, a shower I very much would like to take."
"Of course…Mindy", smiles again whilst adjusting his glasses. "What I was going to say was that I don't have a very big file on Mindy McCready, but I do have an extensive file on Hit-Girl. Over the years since this superhero phenomena I have collect almost every spec of information about Hit-Girl."
"What are you one of my fucking fan boys?", Mindy said cocking an eyebrow.
Dr. Roth coughed and adjusted is glasses, "not in the slightest, I assure you, though I do find your psychosis fascinating; the delusions of grandeur, the belief that you and countless others are actually superheroes."
"First off", Mindy began gritting her teeth as she stood up, "I AM a fucking superhero, secondly, there is nothing fucking wrong with Me or Kick-Ass that we need to be studied and diagnosed! If you're good and you have the ability to help people, you are obligated to do so. If you're a shit eater who preys on the weak, you deserve a bullet in your fucking brain box! Plain and simple."
Standing right in front of Dr. Roth Mindy's anger raged inside her, she wanted to break this jack asses arms. She knew that being a superhero meant not always getting the recognition or the respect she deserved, but she didn't do it for the fame or the perks. She did it because it was doing the right thing; it was protecting those who couldn't protect themselves and this fuck-tard couldn't understand that. She knew full well she her depictions on the matter were very black and white, but she didn't feel the need to argue the grey areas right now.
"Well that was quite the outburst Mindy." 's smile never left his face. "Could you please tell me why you brought Kick-Ass up? I am aware that you two were partners, I assume you were very close…but please tell me, what kind of relationship did you have with him?"
Mindy hadn't realized she brought up Dave. Her anger subsided considerably, she knew she needed to play it smart.
"We were partners, he watched my back I watched his. Nothing more." She said feigning disinterest.
"I see, so there was nothing more between you two?"
"What did I just say?!"
In reality she could talk about Dave all day. He was great in so many ways, his dedication to making the city safe, his determination to keep getting better, how she can be true self in front of him without judgment, and how he was always there when she needed him just to name a few. Now that she thought of it, she could use Dave right about now. Mindy knew Dave wasn't anywhere close to be able to pull off a prison break. Not even her and daddy could pull one off…but she could hope…right?
"Fair enough Mindy, perhaps that conversation will be left for another time." took out a note pad and made a quick note.
Mindy's thought left Dave and was brought back to the matter at hand.
Dr. Roth asked another question. "Would you like to talk about your father Mindy?"
"My Daddy was a great man." Mindy said quickly and assertively, knowing where this could lead to.
"Yes, I'm sure he was but if I recall I believe he abducted you from your mother and-"
"Do. Not. Say another fucking word," Mindy growled, "My father saved from the boring, stagnant, unfulfilling, ass-kissing life I'm sure you know all too well." Mindy leaned forward to drive her last point forward. "and if you ever even think about talking poorly about my daddy, I'll rip off your fucking arms and shove them so far up your ass you'll be able to feel what you ate for breakfast."
fell silent as he slowly closed his notepad.
Adjusting his glasses again, he exhaled. "Well, that is quite the imagination, how about we start off with something less…volatile. How have your living conditions been; satisfactory I hope."
Mindy sighed deeply, "As far as prisons go, yeah, I'm peachy."
"Are you and your bunkmate getting along?"
"What kind of question is that?"
"Please Mindy, answer the question."
"He's still alive if that's what you mean."
"Good, good" Doctor Roth said writing some notes down.
"Actually Doc, I have some questions."
"By all means Mindy, please ask me anything." set aside his note pad and directed his full attention towards Mindy.
"Why am I here?" Mindy asked
"Why Mindy you were apprehended at-"
"No, why am I here in a prison. I was arrested and sent to prison without a trial or due process and if you haven't noticed I'm a sixteen year old girl, isn't this prison a little much." Mindy's eyes were unwavering as she stared at the smiling therapist.
"Yes, Mindy, I am well aware of your age and gender. In any other case I would agree that what happened to you is unconstitutional. However due to your…activities and some strong recommendations, you have actually been sent here because you have been deemed too dangerous for any juvenile facility. Under the Equal Justice Initiative you have been seen as an adult in the eyes of the law and now you are here" said opening his arms wide to show the surrounding room.
"Fine, well since I haven't had a trial-"
"Oh, but Mindy you have had one."
"Excuse me?" she said confused.
"The trial was held yesterday. You were given a state appointed lawyer and you were found guilty for vigilantism and over 2 dozen confirmed homicides."
Mindy said nothing as smiled and re-opened his not pad.
"Are you fucking serious?" she said cocking an eyebrow.
"Yes, Mindy, I am quite serious."
"Why wasn't I at my own god damn trial?"
"You were deemed too dangerous to move without proper escorts, which were not available at that time."
Mindy couldn't say she was too surprised by all of this. She knew that corruption was everywhere; all she needed to know is where it needed to be cut out. And her first extraction was going to be Ralphie Genovese.
With as much of a civil tone as Mindy could muster she asks if he knew who Ralphie Genovese is and where she could possibly find him.
's smile finally left his face at the sound of Don Ralphies name.
"Why Mindy, I'm sorry but I don't know who that is, but I'm sure I find who you're looking for when I look through my files. I'll let you know if any name like that comes up…and it looks like our time for today is up. It was a pleasure meeting you and I look forward to our many meeting in the future", he said, the smile slowly returning to his face.
"Sure…whatever you say doc", Mindy said hopping off of the oversized chair and slowly walking out the door towards her escorts.
As the door closed quickly made his way to his desk and grabbed the receiver off the landline phon. He clumsily dialed a few numbers and waited as the phone rang.
A deep grizzled voice answered, "Yes?"
"It's Roth. Mindy McCready was asking about the Don. What should I do?"
"What did you say?" The voice asked without a hint of concern
"Nothing of course", responded fearfully "I told her I didn't know what she was talking about."
"Very good Roth, you have no need to worry, it just looks like we need to move our plans up a little more to accommodate for her curiosity."
