Chapter 6

Years later…

Kagome awoke, snuggled comfortably into her husband's chest, and she smiled at her mate, giggling. Gently, she brushed away a stubborn stray strand of hair that fell over his handsome face, not surprised to see his golden eyes open and stare sleepily at her. He always did wake up when she would touch him, as fleeting a touch as she would try to make it be.

"Awake already?" Inuyasha murmured, placing a sweet kiss on her forehead. For a man who seemed to hate all the mushy bullshit people spouted about love, he doted on her whenever they were alone. His gruff attitude hadn't disappeared, though: it just went away to indulge her and himself sometimes.

"Mm-hm," she hummed, smiling. She laughed a bit, causing him to cock his head cutely to the side in question. "Oh, it's nothing: the baby's just kicking."

He brightened at that, placing his hand on her rounded belly, smiling softly as he felt their child kick. Five more months and they would meet their baby. Contrary to how he behaved around kids, he had always wanted a family of his own, though he had never dreamed he'd actually one day have one. Least with Kagome of all people. Never with such a beautiful person.

This child would be their first, and both were beyond happy. They had their family at last, and it would grow by one soon, making Sango and Miroku first-time aunt and uncle. And it would make Kagome's mother a grandmother and Sota an uncle and her grandfather a great grandfather, as well. It was sad, Kagome thought regrettably, that they would never meet their child.

But it was alright, she thought, as Inuyasha kissed her again. Mama would want her to be happy.

And with a child on the way, how could she be otherwise?

A/N: This is such a cute ending...the hell...and short, too... I suppose it makes sense. I'm kind of glad about how this story turned out to be. The first time I wrote it, it kinda sucked. On many levels. So I'm much happier with this story now. I hope everyone enjoyed it :3
