This story is about Meowth working with a different partner instead of working with Jessie and James. I don't own pokemon.

The Second Training Ground

After capturing Squirtle Meredith and Meowth came to another Team Rocket training gym, on the way to Vermillion City. "Are you here to train Squirtle?" asked Meowth. "No Meowth," said Meredith "we are here to give you some training". "Me!?" gasped Meowth. "Of course," answered Meredith "you're a pokemon too Meowth so you need training too". Meowth wasn't exactly looking forward to this.

Meowth and Meredith came to a room for Meowth to train. "So tell me why I have to train?" complained Meowth. "Simple Meowth," said Meredith "since you are also a member of Team Rocket you have to stay in tip top shape like the other pokemon of Team Rocket. I am not going to let you fall behind the rest. Besides you told me you want to be better than a Persian didn't you? Well if you want to be stronger than a Persian than you will have to train to get stronger Meowth. And your training begins now". Meowth gulped.

First off Meredith had Meowth running on tread mills. "Building up your speed will help you dodge an opponent's attack" Meredith said to Meowth. Meowth felt like he was being tortured. Truth is he hadn't really trained himself for a long time so right now he was out of shape. After running was finished, Meredith gave Meowth a bottle of water to drink. "This is hard" whined Meowth, gulping the water. "You'll get used to it Meowth," said Meredith "I trained myself a lot like this in the past. Besides you're a pokemon that needs training just like other pokemon". Meowth couldn't argue with that; but he wished the training wasn't hard.

Next up Meredith wanted to train Meowth's moves. "So Meowth what moves do you know?" she asked. "Not much," said Meowth "I only know scratch, bite and fury swipes" answered Meowth. "What about payday and slash?" asked Meredith. "Because I learnt to talk and walk, it made me unable to learn payday," said Meowth "and I haven't taught myself slash yet". "Well then at least I know what to work with" sighed Meredith. Meredith and Meowth went outside onto a field and Meredith gathered up some logs and stood them up. "Meowth scratch all these logs till there's nothing left" she said. "Okay" said Meowth, bringing out his claws. Meowth scratched the logs as hard and fast as he could. "Come on Meowth!" commanded Meredith "you're not a new born kitten anymore! Put your claws into it!" Meowth scratched all the logs till they all broke up to pieces. "My claws are all sore" complained Meowth. "Here Meowth" said Meredith. She got out a small bucket of warm water and told Meowth to relax his paws in them. "Ah this feels nice" said Meowth, placing his paws in the water. It felt strange; he never had anybody really care for him much in his life, but Meredith does care for him which made him feel a bit happy.

After some relaxing Meredith had Meowth practice battling with her Squirtle. First Meowth practiced dodging Squirtle's bubble and water gun attacks. Meowth got hit most of the time, but he managed to dodge some of them. Then Meowth and Squirtle scratched and tackled each other. After a few moments Meredith stopped the training. "Not bad Meowth, but you still have some way to go," said Meredith "did you not learn how to fight back when you were still a wild pokemon?" "I did do some fighting back while I was still in a pack," answered Meowth "but it's been so long I've forgotten what it feels like". "Well we are going to stop training now and continue to Vermillion City," said Meredith "and when we come to another Team Rocket training gym we'll do some more training for you. If you want to prove you are a strong Meowth than you will have to train hard. Otherwise you will end up with having other pokemon, especially Meowths, laugh at you". "Oh yeah?" said Meowth "well I certainly won't let them laugh at me. Give me training anytime you want". He was determined to be the world's strongest Meowth.

I reckon that before Meowth was teamed up with Jessie and Meowth he never learnt to train himself.
