Chapter 7. (Still in Third Person)

The Flashback

Flashback

"Sam!"

"Hey!" Sam greeted, going over to hug the blonde. "Congratulations!"

After a while, the two friends finally let go.

"So, you wanna tell me something?" The blonde boy asked as he looked around and motioned to their surroundings. Earlier that day, Quinn had texted Sam asking him to meet her in the auditorium because she needed to tell him something. Sam agreed since today was Graduation Day and after today, he wasn't quite sure when they'll see each other again.

"Come on." Quinn grabbed Sam's hand and leading them outside the auditorium.

"Where are we going?" Sam asked, letting Quinn drag him along. Suddenly, she stopped walking causing Sam to almost crash into her. Luckily, he was able to stop himself from toppling over.

"Why'd we stop?" Sam asked, pulling away from Quinn's grasp to run his fingers through his hair.

"Just trust me, okay? We won't be too long. I mean, I am not gonna miss my own graduation." Quinn re-attached their hands together and pulled him along until they reached their destination. Once they reached the room, Quinn released Sam's hand.

"The astronomy room." Sam blinks at Quinn, confused. "Why?"

Quinn watches as Sam walks around, staring at the solar system model hanging up.

'I love astronomy. Something about all that space makes my problem seem kind of small.'

'These galactic mobiles aren't the stars of McKinley. We are.'

'I wanna marry you someday.'

Sam finally turns away from the mobile to turn to look at Quinn, who was sitting on a desk, fiddling with her fingers. Sam laughed causing her to look up and shot him an icy glare.

"What?"

"The astronomy room? Really?" Sam mused as he walked over to Quinn.

"Stop laughing."

Sam then walked directly underneath the solar system mobile. Quinn watched as Sam stared at the little balls hanging at the ceiling, decorated at planets.

"So, Q, what gives?"

"Huh?"

"Are we gonna reminisce the fact that this planet..." He points up to the Mars planet. "...Is Mars, planet of war and not Venus, planet of love? And the fact that we're on earth?"

"What?"

"I'm not gonna try and kiss you, you know?" He smirked, watching as Quinn fidgeted slightly. "Because, you know I'm dating Mercedes."

"No!" Quinn shrieked, blushing ever so slightly.

"Then what?"

"Well, I don't know if you know this but this is where I really met you."

"No, you first met me in Glee or was it at football tryouts? I'm not really sure." Sam scratched the back of his head, a habit that clearly said that Sam Evans was confused.

"Yeah, it was actually at football tryouts but that's not what I meant!" Quinn giggled.

"Then?"

"What I meant to say is that..." Quinn took a deep breath before continuing. "This is where I got to know the real you. You know, the dorky, nerdy but still cute and attractive Sam. You know, not many people would be fascinated in the solar system and point out that model."

"You forgot that I'm also a big Avatar fan." Sam grinned at Quinn, showing off as usual when it was just the two of them. And with that remark, the former HBIC rolled her eyes.

"Well, I didn't learn that here, I learned that in the girls' bathroom, you know... When I was cleaning the slushie off your face." Quinn laughed while Sam cringed at the memory. Still, if asked, it was one of the most unforgettable moments Sam's had at McKinley. It wasn't the slushie but the fact that the Quinn Fabray - head cheerio then, most beautiful girl in school - wiped the slushie off of him plus he got to tell her that she has pretty eyes. She still has, he thought. She still has those pretty eyes that made him fall for her.

'Lor Menari.'

"Yeah." Sam nodded. "Well, it was better that the slushie thrown at me when I joined the synchronized swimming team."

"Maybe because it was me who helped you."

"Hey." Sam frowned. "Mercedes helped me as well."

"No, not really."

Sam looked at Quinn before raising an eyebrow. Quinn shrugged before responding.

"Well... Shane was there and you two weren't together that time."

"Oh, that! Well if it wasn't for him then we'd been together as soon as I came back from Kentucky." Sam exclaimed, even doing fist pumps in the air. Quinn rolled her eyes but smiled at him.

"Sam?"

"Yeah?"

"Do you - do you love her?"

Sam stares at her in disbelief. Quinn gathered all the strength and courage she had before locking her eyes at him.

"Wha - what kind of a question is that?"

"Because I love you Sam." Quinn blurted out, still staring at him.

"What?" Well, here goes nothing, Quinn thought.

"I think I love you, Sam." Sam was still looking at her, now glaring at her. The once soft, playful expression written on his face was now replaced by a harsh glare, cold and hard.

"Look, before you go and get mad at me, please just hear me out first." Quinn started, and when Sam's face softened for just a little bit, she smiled a little and her uneasiness lessened a bit.

"Look, I know you probably don't even want me back. You have Mercedes after all." And because Quinn can't help it, she rolled her eyes. Guess the HBIC-ness is still in her. "But I meant what I said. When you came back just before Sectionals, when I said I wanted you back, that you and I were perfect together. I meant it. I mean it. And to be honest, seeing you with Mercedes, seeing you sing songs for her... It hurts, because you used to do all those things with me, for me. I just - I don't know Sam. I know I cheated and I just -"

Quinn's eyes started to water and Sam wanted nothing more than to reach out and hug his best friend. Let her know that it was nothing and he truly did forgive her. But he stayed on his spot, afraid to get on the bad side of the former cheerio.

"Look, I just wanted to tell you I'm sorry. For cheating on you, for treating you badly when all you did was be the perfect boyfriend and I'm just sorry. But we can be perfect again, Sam. You and I, we're perfect for each other."

"So, what are you trying to say, Q?"

"I want you, Sam. I want us to be together. I want you. I love you, Sam." And there it was. Quinn finally opened her heart to Sam. Now, Sam just needs to love Quinn back.

"I'm sorry."

Two words. Two words were all it took for Sam to break Quinn's heart again. As if the first two weren't heartbreaking enough.

"Look, I don't love you anymore, Q. Maybe I did at one point in my life, but not anymore." Sam's words were gentle but to Quinn, each word was piercing through her heart. "I'm in love with Mercedes. I love her. And I would never hurt her, let alone cheat on her, especially over something stupid."

Okay, that did it. Quinn's head shot up and she glared at Sam.

"So, what are you trying to say here Sam? That I'm just this freaking cheater that just -"

"No, Quinn. I was just trying to -"

"You know what? You have no right to tell me about cheating, Sam. Because as I remembered correctly, you made Mercedes cheat on Shane." Quinn yelled at her so-called friend.

"What are you talking about?"

"Oh, don't deny it, Sam! At the auditorium, during Michael week, I saw you and Mercedes singing Human Nature and yes, I saw you two kiss." Quinn explained calmly, though her voice was so low, it's terrifying, then she yelled her next words again. "So, what makes you any better than me, Sam?"

Sam was stunned. He was pretty sure that only he, Mercedes and the band knew about that. And Shane, but that was because Mercedes told him when they broke up.

"If you won't ever cheat, why did you cheat with her? Face it, Evans. You're just like me, Finn, Puck and every other cheater in the whole damn glee club and the whole damn world!"

"Hey, don't put the blame on me, Quinn! If you hadn't cheated on me in the first place, maybe we'd still be together. You wanted Finn because of that stupid crown you never even got! And let's face it, Quinn, once a cheater, always a cheater, so I should've expected you cheating on me. Don't blame me for the stupid mistakes that YOU did."

Both of them froze. The tears that Quinn tried so hard to blink away started falling from her eyes and no matter how much she wanted to swat them away, they just kept on making its way down her face. The second Quinn took a step away from Sam, he shook his head and stepped towards her, grabbing both her wrists.

"Quinn, I - crap! I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that. I was just so overwhelmed and - I love her, I love Mercedes, so much. I just don't love you anymore. Crap! Why am I saying this? I'm sorry, I just -"

"So much for not judging me, huh?" Quinn laughed humorlessly before pulling her arms away from Sam. "You could've just stopped when you said you didn't love me anymore."

Quinn shook her head and spun around, walking out of the classroom. It took Sam a few seconds but he quickly reached for her hand and spun her, pulling her back.

"Quinn..."

"Let go, Sam. I gotta go." The former Cheerio smiled weakly, pulling away from Sam then proceeded in wiping her tears. "Graduation starts in an hour and I still have to find Santana and Brittany. They have my robe, so..."

Sam took a step forward and engulfed the other blonde in a tight hug. They stayed like for about twenty minutes before Sam finally released her. He lifted her chin up and looked at her eyes.

"We cool?" Sam asked softly.

"I guess." She answered, then quickly walked out before Sam could stop her again, leaving the big lipped blonde stunned and sad.

...

'Choir Room. 15 minutes.'

It was Finn who sent her that message. She searched for Finn in the auditorium and when she caught sight of him, she nodded, letting him know that she got his message. She, along with the rest of the senior class, was taking pictures with their friends, family, and everyone they know. She took pictures with all of the Glee club members, all the Senior Glee members, all the underclassmen Glee members, with the Cheerios, with Mr. Schue, with Coach Sue, with Santana&Brittany of course, and with about 50 other students that she doesn't even know. She just finished posing with her mom when Santana grabbed her arms and pulled her away from the photo-taking chaos.

"Hey Q, did you get that message from Frankenteen about meeting up at the choir room?" Santana asked while looking at her phone.

"Yeah, we should probably go."

"Sure. Let me just go get Britt then we'll head to the choir room, okay?"

"Yeah, okay! Hurry!"

"Stay there, Quinn! Don't you disappear on me!" Santana yelled, eyes searching for her girlfriend.

"I won't."

...

They immediately went to the choir room once Santana returned with Brittany. When they got there, they saw Finn, Rachel, Kurt, Blaine, Artie, Tina, Mike and Joe already there.

"Hey, where are the others?" Quinn wondered, taking a seat beside Artie with Santana and Brittany behind them.

"They'll be here." Rachel answered, sitting now on the piano with Finn standing beside her. "Just wait a few minutes."

"Whatever, Berry. You better not be wasting our time because Q, Britt and I are still eating at Breadstix with our families." Santana snapped at the brunette before talking to Brittany.

A few minutes passed by and one by one, the other Glee kids made their way inside the choir room. The last to come were Sam and Mercedes.

"What took you guys so long? Finn texted you about 25 minutes ago!" Rachel deadpanned, placing both her hands on her hips.

"Oh, I know!" Santana piped in. "Aretha's been busy making out with Guppy Mouth to be bothered to come here."

"Santana." Quinn warned to which the Latina simply shrugged. Then the couple in question quickly sat down, but not before Sam gave Quinn a guilty look.

"Okay, I called Mr. Schue and he was just talking to Miss P and Coach Sylvester so he'll be here in a few minutes." Rachel announced, hoping down the piano and pacing back and forth.

"So, why are we here, Dwarf?" Santana asked, rolling her eyes at the brunette.

"Well, I just thought that maybe we could perform one last song for Mr. Schue before all of us graduates leave. To say thank you and to say goodbye. I mean... It is our last assignment for Glee Club."\

"And what do you want to sing, Rachel?" Kurt asked, raising an eyebrow.

"No, see... I was thinking that maybe we could perform something that we did before. You know... A group number we've done before." Rachel said then automatically everyone was suggesting a specific number.

They ended up doing Don't Stop Believin', which Quinn suggested. Everyone got solos with the seniors leading most of the time. More tears were shed - and laughter - as Mr. Schue said his goodbyes to the seniors, and before they finally call it a night, they shared one last hug, one last show circle and Quinn managed to snap a picture of the Glee Club.

After the performance for Mr. Schue, and almost everyone left, Sam caught Quinn's arm and asked her to stay. Sam asked Mercedes to go ahead and that he'll catch up with her later. Santana saw them and quirked an eyebrow but caught up with Brittany, Blaine and Kurt quickly.

"What do you want Sam?"

"Can we talk, please?"

"Fine." Quinn rolled her eyes. "What do you wanna talk about, Sam?"

"Earlier." Sam said. "Look Q, I'm so sorry if I -"

"Sam, it's okay." The other blonde spoke up. "You love Mercedes and she loves you back. I just happen to love you as well, unfortunately. It's not you fault."

"No, it's not okay!" Sam said, getting a little frustrated. "You just graduated!"

"So?" Quinn quirked an eyebrow.

"And we're fighting! This is probably the last time we're gonna see each other and we're fighting!" Sam raised his voice a bit, getting more and more frustrated.

"You're overreacting, this isn't the last time -"

"You know what I mean." Sam said, staring blankly at her. " I just don't want things to end on a bad note, I mean I wanna make sure, you're okay. That we're okay. You're not mad at me, right?"

Sam sighed when Quinn remained silent. Figuring that Mercedes might be waiting for him, he extended his hand towards the other blonde.

"Friends?"

Quinn looked at his hand for a mere second before gripping it, not to shake hands but she pulled him and hugged him tightly.

"I'm gonna miss you so much."

"I'mma miss you too, Quinn. So much." Sam said, wrapping his arms aroung her just as tight. "You're my best friend. That would never change."

They stayed still for a few minutes before pulling away. Sam started to leave but stopped to wait for Quinn.

"Go Sam! Mercedes is probably waiting for you."

"What about you?"

"I'll be fine, Sam. Just go. I'm going to Breadstix with Santana ad Britt."

"Oh! Is Joe going with you?" Sam asked, genuinely curious. Quinn smiled before shaking her head.

"It's just us and our families." Sam nodded then headed for the door.

"Sam!"

Sam spun around and faced Quinn one last time. "Yeah?"

"Keep in touch, okay?"

"I will. I promise!" Sam smiled. "Bye Q!"

"Bye Sam." Quinn called out, watching Sam walk away.

"I love you." She whispered before walking out of the choir room and meeting up with her mom so they could enjoy their little graduation dinner at Breadstix.
