Ruby/Spears-verse

Thomas Light reflects on his children.

Dr. Light's old-fashioned upbringing was only partly to blame when it came to raising Roll. He had been taught to treat women gently and politely and though he'd never admit it out loud, Roll's developing personality was more like Blues in that, she was bullheaded, rebellious and feisty…and it disturbed him greatly.

He had tried at first to keep her out of harm's way but she insisted on throwing herself right into danger, she taught herself martial arts and had even built her own set of weapons and tools. He had spotted the increasingly sullen, resentful looks, so like her eldest's brother's and wondered if they would have been little hell-raisers had they grown up together.

He had privately blamed Albert for Blues' criminal ways but when she would sneak out, or pitch a tantrum or blatantly ignore him, he realized that he had to give her a little leeway, or else she might run off and realized that his old partner might not be entirely to blame.

Rock was so much like himself, considerate, with a strong passion for justice and concerned for others. Though he had accepted that Roll would accompany him and overtime, had come to rely on her skills. Perhaps his attitudes were outdated.

Societal

Flipside Universe

Can beings made of metal and wire form their own social structure?

Or is such a thing reserved for those made of flesh and blood?

Roll, whether she'd realized it or not was quickly making a place for herself in the Robot Hierarchy, for the most part it was none of Albert's concern so long as those on top kept order amongst his growing army.

It was something that should only be natural to living flesh and blood beings who'd had millions of years to develop such an ingrained response, it would not seem natural for something mechanical and had it been known outside of Skull Fortress, many people would be deeply disturbed, for to them, robots were not real the way a human or a dog was, they were simply a walking, talking tool that could better assist them in their endeavors.

Proto was on the top of the pecking order, followed by Shadow and those closer to the top were both smart and strong enough to fend off their fellow Masters. Because Roll was Proto's sister she was a little higher along then she should have been. She didn't go out of her way to suppress the weak, however she was known to hold a vicious grudge and was frequently found in arguments with Ice and Top Man. She was quick-witted enough to verbally dance most bots in circles and seemed to connect easier to more android like bots, such as Gemini and Pharaoh.

Had it not been for Proto's influence she probably would have had a harder time adapting to Wily's ranks, since she didn't quite fit anywhere within his themed sets, Water robot masters for example had an easier time understanding each other then they did with aerial units, though this wasn't to say that they couldn't understand and work out friendships and animosities, it was simply more that they preferred their predisposed cliques.

Roll's wide array of powers would have placed her somewhere within the outsider's set, which included bots like Gemini, Ring or Snake and even Proto himself. If just a bit below. Because they were more unique they had a harder time fitting in with some of their peers and weren't as respected or understood.

It was both a pity and a wasted opportunity under Albert's nose, because if he wasn't trying to take over the world, he would have found it very interesting to see how a small society of semi-sentient robots could adopt such an ancient and instinctual desire for a pecking order.
