Author's Note: It has been forever since I last updated. Real life has been a real hassle and most of my free time is spent towards other, more pressing projects at the moment. Unfortunately this crossover has been neglected far more than I intended. I'm sorry but hopefully this chapter will make it up. Thanks to all those who are still reading/reviewing.
The very first thing that Madoka knew that they needed to do was leave the abandoned church. This was easier said than done as neither she nor Asia had any money with which to find lodging. The blond-haired nun had told her that she had stayed at the abandoned church the entire time and normally did not venture far unless she was hungry and had to find food. There was a small bit of food that Asia happened to have with her when she fled the Church. It was kept inside a white bag that was adorned with gold lace. Perhaps a bit conspicuous but Asia adored it saying that it was a gift from a priest back when she was still in Italy. Aside from a couple of bags of cookies and chips there was also a bible and a green comb.
While it wasn't imperative, Madoka knew that they couldn't stay here forever. Madoka knew that Asia had enemies looking for her and staying in one place would only increase the nun's chances of getting found. The Magical Girl wasn't sure if she was being followed as well but she didn't feel comfortable staying in one place for too long.
As she thought of this she brought up her Soul Gem and looked at it.
The black taint marred the otherwise bright pink glow of the Soul Gem. At the moment it wasn't very big but Madoka knew that she had to use her powers judiciously. If anything Madoka would rather not use her powers if she could help it and that meant avoiding confrontation. They needed to leave and find someplace else to hide but at the same time they needed to be discreet. Madoka wasn't sure what exactly her next course of action would be but for the moment they had to think of a way to leave the church without arousing needless suspicion.
Another discouraging thought was food itself.
Thinking of this brought up images of Kyoko in Madoka's head.
Prior to their teaming up Kyoko had been a lone wolf and used her powers for her own benefit. Unfortunately this meant that she committed many acts of petty crime to substantiate herself. This included stealing food from unwary merchants and store owners. Even to the end Kyoko never really seemed to feel guilt over this and this saddened Madoka. She wasn't someone who would stoop to committing any crime no matter what. An admirable mindset but one which wasn't going to sustain their existence if they procrastinated any longer.
"So tell me Asia. Have you actually ever gone outside of this church?" asked Madoka curiously. Since the day before Madoka was feeling better from her battle with Malefic, previously Kyubey. She felt so well it was as if she had never been wounded at all. Clearly Asia's powers were something not to be underestimated.
"When I try to find food. It's kinda embarrassing but when I get really hungry I go out and start to sing. Not many people actually stop by and listen but some leave me a few yen here and there. At the end of the day I usually have enough to go to a store and get me a few snacks. I'm sorry if I don't have anymore than this." said Asia with a small bit of shame as she produced a bag of cookies from her bag and gave it to Madoka.
The pink haired girl felt her stomach rumble. She was quite hungry and eagerly took the small bag of cookies and started to munch on them. It was one of the few times that Madoka was glad that she had such a small appetite. She was sure that this meager offering would get her to tomorrow at the least.
"There is no reason to feel ashamed Asia. I already owe you so much for saving my life! C'mon I'm sure we can figure something out." said Madoka with a smile.
Asia blushed slightly as she heard Madoka attempting to make her feel better. It had been so long since anyone had acted kindly to her. While she loved the Church most of the nuns, monks and priests weren't exactly tender and some, like Father Freed, were downright cruel. It was nice to talk to someone that was her own age and not have to worry about behaving a certain way.
Despite all this Asia still wondered what Madoka really was.
It was two nights ago when she felt a strange presence in the church. Fearing that it was someone from the Church she hid behind one of the damaged pews only to hear the sound of a girl wailing in pain. She seemed to be repeating a name to herself over and over. Drawing her courage Asia peered over the pew to find a strange, pink haired girl dressed in an outlandish looking dress. There was a fractured rod laying by her while a river of blood was seeping from the prone girl. She seemed to be muttering to herself and, as Asia got closer, finally was able to make out what she was saying.
I'm so sorry Homura...I'm so sorry...
Who was Homura? Asia didn't know but what she did know was that this strange girl needed help and soon got to work to heal her. It took the entire night just to close the wound and even then the girl still slept for a day after that. During that time the girl's body had glowed a bright white before that light condensed itself into a small looking pink gem that fell besides the sleeping girl. All the while, to Asia's surprise, the girl's clothes had changed to something that looked normal.
Stepping near Asia remembered picking up that pink gem and felt the overwhelming amount of warmth and comfort coming from it. The nun didn't know what it was exactly but could tell that it was something very important for the injured girl before her. She carefully placed it on the girl's right hand and clasped the fingers over it.
As she drew herself out of her thoughts Asia looked over to Madoka again. There was more to Madoka then she was letting on but Asia wasn't the type of person to pry.
She seems to be such a nice person. Why would she appear out of nowhere with the wounds she had? Is someone trying to kill her?
Asia could not help herself as she continued to stare at Madoka. There was something definitely odd about this pink haired girl. While she looked normal Asia could sense that there was more to Madoka then she let on. There seemed to be a well of power inside of her that almost made Asia dizzy. It felt vaguely demonic but even then Asia wasn't sure. Whoever this girl was she wasn't normal.
The whole while Madoka felt a pair of eyes burning a hole in her back and turned to find Asia's emerald eyes locked on her figure.
"What is it?" asked Madoka curiously as she tilted her head.
Asia's reaction was comical as she blushed deeply and closed her eyes while waving her hands in front of her like she was trying to battle an army of gnats.
"I-I'm so sorry I didn't mean to stare or anything I mean if you think that I think you're weird then I apologize but you have to believe me that-"
Madoka couldn't help but start giggling. Hell fire and misery plagued Madoka's dreams since her fight with that demon. The pain of losing her comrades was still there and served as an overwhelming reminder of what she needed to do.
I know that I have to get you back Homura. I'll do whatever it takes even if I have to go to Hell myself. I won't abandon you or the others. I promise.
She didn't know how she was going to do this and it would be impossible. But Madoka wasn't going to give up. As long as she still had her powers she would find a way to bring her friends back. These thoughts had persisted since the time of her awakening and they filled her with nothing but morbid thoughts. Asia's company was not expected but every minute that passed gave Madoka a greater appreciation for the young nun. Just seeing her getting so embarrassed made her forget about the pain even if it was a moment.
"There's no need to get so embarrassed! If there is something that is bothering you then feel free to ask me. I don't bite...or at least I don't think I do." smiled Madoka.
Asia seemed to have calmed down considerably as she heard Madoka tell her this. There was still a red hue on her face as she was still feeling embarrassment over her actions but she wasn't tripping over her words anymore. With that said she drew a deep breath before speaking.
"Kaname-san if I-"
"Please call me Madoka. We're friends and I don't want you to feel like you have to be anyone different other than yourself around me." offered Madoka.
"O-Okay then. If you don't mind me asking Madoka what in the world happened to you that you became so wounded?" asked Asia.
A dark expression fell on Madoka's face and Asia instantly regretted asking the question. She wasn't nosy but she was so curious that she really needed to ask. The petite nun hoped that Madoka wasn't too offended.
"I'm sorry. Maybe I should have asked." muttered Asia in regret.
"No...it's okay. It's something that I don't like thinking about. Maybe another time I can tell you everything that has happened but for now I'll only say this. We were betrayed."
Asia felt her breath hitch as she heard this. She remembered Madoka telling her about someone she held dear to hear had happened to die. The gears in Asia's head started to turn as she put the pieces together.
What does she mean by "we"? Does this have anything to do with that girl that died? Maybe but I shouldn't ask. I have already brought her enough pain as it is.
"I'm here for you if that's any consolation. When the time comes when you are strong enough to bear the pain I'll to listen to you." said Asia softly.
Madoka allowed herself to be comforted as she felt Asia wrap her arms around her. The dam broke and before Madoka knew it she was crying her eyes out. Asia stroked Madoka's hair softly as she felt her new friend hit her softly over the chest with her fists.
"I-It isn't fair! Why us? All we wanted was to make the world a better place. Is that so horrible that you would take everything away from me?"
Asia started to tear up as well as she heard Madoka's lamentation. Old wounds started to come undone as she felt the bitter pain of betrayal as well. The young nun knew what it felt like to try to make things better for everyone only to get punished. It pained Asia to know that Madoka suffered just the same if not worse all just because she wanted to do the right thing.
Asia Argento wasn't the type of person to entertain morbid thoughts but as she saw Madoka barely holding herself together she wondered if the world ever really wanted to change itself for the better in the first place.
It was in the dead of night as Overtkill started to stalk the alleyways of the Chiyoda district where both Taiko and Wantabe had been brutally murdered at. According to that Yakuza there seemed to be an unknown factor surrounding the deaths of his two best men. While he still suspected the Dragon Syndicate the Yakuza had voiced his concerns to the contrary. The manner which both men were killed was gruesome and yet Overtkill wasn't afraid.
In fact he was rather excited.
As a connoisseur of all things macabre the cyborg could appreciate the works of others. He approved of the way the two men were killed and Overtkill was anxious in meeting this mystery killer. When he did he would be more than sure to instruct the murderer the proper way of brutally massacring someone and he would do it in the best way the murderer would learn.
By using his body as an example.
He continued to stalk the area until he finally got to his destination.
This particular alleyway didn't seem very different from the rest. The rancid smell of dried up alcohol and human waste permeated the atmosphere here while the buildings were a maze. At the very far end of the alleyway was an abandoned church.
As Overtkill continued to stalk the area he finally came to a place where there was a patch of dried up blood stains. The bodies, of course, were no longer there.
It seems that the trail has turned a bit cold. The authorities have taken the bodies away.
There was the sound of a can being crushed as a hush of whispers suddenly assaulted Overtkill's ears. The cyborg smiled cruelly.
Well. It looks like I might have to play a little detective before I can get the answers I want.
Using his red-eye piece he scanned the area as he switched his sensors to infrared. The darkness suddenly turned into a red haze and all around him were a bunch of small yet bright yellow figures.
Bingo.
With speed that one wouldn't expect from his hulking physique he closed the distance to a cluster of small figures that were huddling behind a large dumpster. There were gasps of fear as Overtkill loomed over his prey. He smiled wickedly as his initial suspicion was true.
It looks like this alleyway is housing all the rejected children of the area.
Too bad their mommies and daddies aren't here to save them.
Not like they could have done so anyway.
There were four children huddled together and each of them looked just short of dying of terror at the moment. Overtkill was not above killing children. In fact he took a morbid pleasure from it. Their bodies were different from the adult form. More flexible, softer. Places where there would be solid bone would house cartilage instead. Breaking their limbs required a degree of finesse which Overtkill took pride in possessing. What really got Overtkill off the most, however, was knowing that he was denying these children an entire lifetime of living. It filled him with malicious joy to know that he was ending their lives so prematurely.
Knowing this he grabbed a girl by the head and lifted her up. She screamed in pain as he dug his metallic fingers into her temples threatening to squeeze her head like a rotten tomato.
"Now, now I'm not here to hurt you but I will if you don't tell me what I want to hear. You understand?" said Overtkill in a mockingly paternal voice.
The girl seemed nearly paralyzed with fright and it took everything she had just to nod her head up and down. Overtkill could literally feel the fear radiating from girl as he drank it in. It was times like these that Overtkill remembered why he loved killing in the first place.
"Good. I'm glad that you're willing to listen to your elders. Now pay attention. I'm going to ask you some questions. Think of it like a pop quiz at school! If you get all the answers right then I'll let you live. However if you get even one answer wrong then I'll kill you. Sounds fair don't you think?"
The girl was so frightened that she didn't even notice the warmth spreading from her crotch. She had peed herself in abject terror of this monster that was holding her and her friends hostage. Overtkill didn't miss this and smiled even more cruelly.
"Okay we're going to start our pop quiz. I hope you're ready. Now about two nights ago a pair of upstanding citizens had been in this part of the city on business. Unfortunately someone got it into their head to kill these two good men and now they are dead. Since I know you live here I'm sure you must know a bit about what has happened. So now I ask. Who killed these two men?"
The girl seemed to struggle a bit in coming up with a coherent answers. In between her sniffling in both pain and fear she just couldn't formulate any words. The smile on Overtkill's face fell a bit as he applied a bit of pressure on the girl's head.
The result was instantaneous as the girl screamed loudly from the pain that she was in. Overtkill, meanwhile, wasn't concerned about anyone trying to stop him. The entire police force could come for all he cared. Just more lambs to slaughter.
"You see? That's what happens when you don't listen to your elders little girl. So I'm going to ask you one more time. If you don't answer me then I'll kill you. Who was the one that killed the Yakuza's two button men?" asked Overtkill seriously now.
"T-Those bad men g-got what they deserved. They were trying to play the touchy feely game with that woman and were going to do bad things to her. T-The sad man came and killed them." replied the girl.
Overtkill was intrigued.
The sad man huh? Interesting name. I wonder if this person haunts these alleyways like some sort of spook or ghost or something.
Not that it matters.
I'll be sure that the sad man will become a lot sadder once I'm through with him.
"You don't say? The sad man killed them? Tell me then where is the sad man?"
"I-I don't know."
"Of course you do."
This time Overtkill applied a bit more pressure causing the girl to scream in pain once again.
"Where is he and how does he look like!" roared Overtkill.
It was then that the girl did something very strange. Her eyes were looking up at the dark sky as she gave a sad smile.
"Looks like I'm going to see you in Heaven after all mommy. I'm sorry I couldn't stay alive like you asked me to." said the girl softly.
Overtkill raised an eyebrow as he heard this. Most of his victims, at this point, would be begging for their lives and doing anything to not die. This girl seemed to have accepted her death and suddenly this game was no longer fun for Overtkill. He was going to kill her now and get started with the rest of the children in this dump.
Suddenly his sensors started to go crazy and before he could do anything else he felt a searing, hot pain on the arm where he held the girl from. The girl fell on her bottom as she was let go and promptly ran to her friends who were still huddled near the dumpster. Overtkill looked over and found that his right arm had nearly been seared off. Cauterised wire hung from the melted metallic structure as blood started to drip ever so slowly from his grievous wound.
"Leave now before I'm forced to hurt you anymore!"
Overtkill turned around and saw the strangest sight he had ever seen. There was a pink haired young girl adorned in a ridiculous looking dress standing some twenty feet away from him. In the gloom he could see her expression. Disgust, fear and determination all at the same time. Normally he would have laughed at the sight of some thirteen year old girl opposing him like this. However this was not a normal time. This girl, for whatever reason, seemed to have a bow and arrow aimed right at him.
That arrow glowed a bright, hot white pink that nearly overwhelmed his infrared sight. Jesus it was like looking into the sun itself!
What in the FUCK is this? Did that girl really cause me so much damage? And what is it that she is holding? I have never seen a weapon like that in my life. If I didn't know any better I would think that this girl actually has some sort of super power or something.
But that shit doesn't exist...does it?
It was rare that Overtkill was stumped like this. He did not know how a teenage girl could injure him to this extent nor did he know how she was able to wield such a deadly weapon without the use of any visible technology. He wasn't scared but he did admit that he was a bit flustered. The cyborg didn't even remember the last time he was damaged to this extent.
The fact that it was in the hands of some snot nosed teenager made it even worse.
Despite his precarious position Overtkill remained calm. He turned to face the girl and gave a wicked grin. The sight of the girl's face shifting to uncertainty gave him some confidence.
"What if don't leave?" asked Overtkill.
"T-Then I'll shoot you again!" stammered the pink haired girl.
Her response amused him. He was beginning to see that this girl wasn't a killer and this was crucial.
I can use this to my advantage. If what I think is true then maybe I can get out of here alive.
"I could not help but notice that you neglected to say that you would kill me. Is this true?"
Overtkill smiled again as he saw the girl's face shift even further into uncertainty. There seemed to be conflicting emotions going on with the girl right now. It was unfortunate that he was in such bad shape otherwise he would have capitalized on the situation. He knew that he had some missiles that he could launch if need be but there was a good chance that he could very well die if he tried. He was almost certain that the girl wouldn't kill him but 'almost' wasn't good enough.
Meanwhile the pink haired Magical Girl was beginning to feel herself tremble. When she had heard the screams of the girl from the abandoned church she knew that she had to come and find out what was going on. She explicitly told Asia to stay behind just in case there was any danger and it was just as well. She had never seen anything like this before. Was this man before her even human?
Madoka was no stranger to dangerous situation but this strange man frightened her almost more than the Witches themselves. Witches always exuded auras of fear and despair when she fought them and others even exuded such profound sorrow that Madoka felt sad when she had to vanquish them. While the Witches often did horrible things to the people around them Madoka could not help but feel that they weren't exactly evil.
This strange man, however, exuded such a horrible intent to kill that it frightened her. There were no feelings of remorse, sorrow, fear or despair. Only blood lust and the desire to kill. To face an enemy like this was both new and frightening at the same time. The fact that this man didn't even seem to be afraid of her even when she nearly shot off his arm was terrifying in itself.
"I'll do whatever it takes to protect these children even if I have to end your life." replied Madoka with as much resolve as she could muster.
"Is that so? Are you willing to kill me to that then? Will you pierce my heart or perhaps blast my brains out instead? What about shooting off every one of my limbs and then leave me to die in agonizing pain as I bleed out? How far you prepared to go to protect these children?"
With that Overtkill started to walk forward. Madoka started to tremble at the sight of this monster making his way towards her. The light of her arrow dimmed a bit as her resolve was shaken. Even her bow was beginning to shake.
"It's so easy to say that you'll take someone's life. So simple to say and yet so difficult to do. Believe me once a very long time ago I was also human. When I had killed my first victim his death haunted my dreams for weeks. Every night I was forced to relive that moment as I killed him. The sight of his lifeblood seeping from his wounds. How his body started to void itself of waste as its functions started to cease. The light of his eyes going away as death started to overtake him. It was then that I realized that I actually took someone's life along with all his hopes, dreams and ambitions. Everything that made that man his own person was now gone and was replaced by a sack of meat, a rotting corpse for the crows to feast on."
Overtkill was now only ten feet from Madoka. His expression was both serious and somber as he stopped his advance and stood right in front of the arrow being pointed towards him.
"I nearly went insane. The guilt was overwhelming that it hurt. Eventually I was able to come to terms with what I have done and since then I have killed thousands of people all to make a profit. I learned to ignore the feelings of pain and guilt and eventually I started to even enjoy doing this. Now it has gotten to the point that I now revel in the bloodbath. Even so that man still haunts my dreams. Despite all the people I have killed still my first victim always finds a way to come back and torment me. Perhaps this punishment and that this has and will always be my destiny. To take the lives of people and make all their loved one suffer as a result. I will continue to take lives to further my own until I am killed myself. You have the opportunity to save so many lives now. All you have to do is let that arrow loose and the world become a better place. But I warn you."
At this point Overtkill was only a foot away from the frightened Magical Girl.
"Kill me now and I'll forever torment you. Just as my first victim still continues to torture me to this day so will I to you. I'll haunt your dreams and conciousness. Every night you go to sleep you will revist the day that you took my life away and remind you that no matter how kind or pure you profess to be, in the end, you are nothing but a murderer and no better than I am. So go ahead. Fire that arrow and end my life. Make the world a better place and get rid of this monster before you if you are prepared for the consequences."
With a scream of pure desperation Madoka fired her arrow at the cyborg before her. Unfortunately even within that distance her aim was off as she was trembling so much and instead only ended up blasting Overtkill's left shoulder instead. The cyborg roared with pain but was still alive. He looked over at Madoka and gave a wicked grin.
"You will regret letting me live little girl. Only when you are prepared to suffer the consequences of taking a life will you capable of vanquishing your foes. There is no right or wrong in battle only life and death."
With that Overtkill went into the shadows of the alleyway and was soon gone. Madoka still stood there trembling. She could hardly even compose herself as she tried to come to terms with what was just said to her.
H-How can someone be so cruel and horrible?
It was then that Madoka felt someone tugging at the end of her skirt and looked down see the young girl that had been held hostage by that cyborg just earlier.
"Thank you for saving me. I was so scared that I was going to break my promise but I don't have to now because of you. Thank you so much."
Madoka looked over to see the girl, about eight or nine years old, giving her a sad smile. The other children were nearby by, a bit frightened of her, but nowhere near as terrified as they were to that cyborg just earlier. The Magical Girl sighed as she felt her powers extinguish themselves and soon condense themselves to her Soul Gem much to the amazement to the girl before her.
"You don't have to thank me. I was just doing the right thing." said Madoka sadly.
"I just think it's so cool that you have powers like that." said the girl with a toothy smile.
Kyubey filled Madoka's head and at once she shook her head. This girl would have been a perfect target.
"Sometimes I wish I didn't have these powers."
"Why?"
"Because then I wouldn't have to...see her taken away from me." replied Madoka solemnly as she started to walk away.
The girl was confused by Madoka's answer. Even so she didn't want to see her leave so soon and instead of letting Madoka go she ran in front of her and blocked her path.
"My name is Ayumi. Can we be friends?"
Madoka could not help but feel herself smile when she heard this. This girl, despite going through such a terrifying ordeal, had bounced right back up as if nothing had happened. Sometimes Madoka did envy children and their ability to cope with just about anything.
"You shouldn't friends with me. It will only get you in danger." replied Madoka.
"It's alright! I know that you'll be able to protect me if things go bad."
The pink haired teenager only shook her head mournfully.
"I can't protect you. Not when I'm such a coward that I couldn't even find the resolve to kill him."
"You're wrong! Everybody was too scared to stand up to that terrible man but you did! I saw how scared you were but even then you still didn't run away. You're not a coward but a good person who thinks killing is wrong!"
The volume of Ayumi's voice surprised the Magical Girl. She looked over to see the girl with a face of total admiration for her. It reminded her of Homura in some way and Madoka could not help but feel even more saddened that she would feel so confident in her.
"Thank you...Ayumi."
"You still sound so sad just like the Sad Man."
The mentioning of this 'Sad Man' grabbed at Madoka's curiosity.
"Who is this sad person anyway?" asked Madoka.
"I don't know except all I know is that he sounded so sad when I talked to him. He looks scary but I can tell that he isn't a bad person either. I think he needs a friend so that he won't be so sad all the time." said Ayumi.
Madoka smiled at the child like logic presented to her. So innocent despite all the terrible things that had happened to her today. Madoka wished she had the strength to bounce back from such a terrible ordeal. Even so this 'Sad Man' seemed to be quite a character and Madoka was actually curious about meeting him. If this child was correct about him then perhaps she wouldn't mind becoming friends with him.
"When I meet him then I'll be sure to consider it Ayumi." said Madoka with a smile.
"That's great! So what's your name? I don't want to call you Magic Girl or anything." said Ayumi.
The pink haired teenager could not help but think it quite disturbing that this child would actually refer to her as 'Magic Girl.' She would fix that right away.
"My name is Madoka."
"Nice to meet you Madoka! I hope you come and visit us. Maybe then my friends won't be so chicken." said Ayumi as she eyed two other children nearby who looked to want to get closer but were still distrustful.
"I actually don't live very far. You see that church over there. I'm staying there with a friend of mine. You can come when you like!" offered Madoka.
"Really! I never go over there cuz it's creepy. That and they say that a ghost haunts the place now because they hear someone singing in there. Anyway I'm getting sleepy. Maybe I can see you tomorrow?" asked Ayumi hopefully.
"Sure!"
Asia felt nothing but relief as she saw Madoka appear from the gloom inside the church. She had been so frightened when she had heard those screams coming from outside and couldn't believe that Madoka would actually go out there and investigate on what was going on.
"So what happened?" asked Asia.
Madoka did not respond right away. She sat down at one of the pews and looked toward the ceiling of the church. Her encounter with Overtkill had unsettled her and it was only due to her conversation with Ayumi that she wasn't losing it at the moment.
Overtkill had truly frightened her. Never had she had such an overwhelming desire to run away then she did the moment she met eyes with that horrible man. Even against the Walpurgis of the Night did not think of fleeing and yet against that cybernetic man all she wanted to do was get as far away from him as possible.
"Asia I know that I said that we may have to move from here but I want to know if we could stay instead." asked Madoka.
The blond-haired nun was a bit confused by this change of heart.
"I don't mind but didn't we already agree about leaving soon?" asked Asia.
"It's just that...I can't really tell you in words without you not believing me so I'll show you instead, okay."
This only served to confuse the nun even further.
"I don't follow..."
"Just watch."
With that Madoka held her Soul Gem up as it glowed brilliantly in the dark church. Madoka's body was enveloped in a pink light before coming out in her Magical Girl form. To say that Asia was stunned was an understatement.
This was just how she looked like the first time I saw her. What does this mean?
As if to answer her question Madoka produced her bow and arrow and promptly fired it at a nearby gargoyle. The arrow went through the stone structure cleanly causing it to blow apart.
"You see Asia I'm a Magical Girl and I have the power to fight Witches and any of their familiars."
To the blond nun this development was not what she was expecting. Sure she knew that Madoka wasn't what she seemed but this wasn't what she was expecting. The amount of power Madoka was radiating was overwhelming and the worst part?
Asia was sure that what Madoka was displaying was only a fraction of her true potential.
"You dressed this same way when I first found you two nights ago. After a while you changed back to your normal self. At the time I didn't understand what this meant but now I do. Initially I suspected that you were a demon since your powers feel similar to theirs. However now that I see it first hand I can't even think of what your powers really are. It's like nothing I have ever felt." replied Asia.
Madoka was surprised at Asia's reaction.
"Y-You're not frightened?"
"No. You're very powerful but I know that you are a good person and that you wouldn't hurt me. Besides this isn't the first time that I have felt the power of a strong being such as yourself."
It was then that Asia's eyes widened as she realized something very important.
"Y-You wouldn't happen to be a Fallen Angel, would you?" asked Asia timidly.
Madoka had never even heard of a Fallen Angel before.
"No, at least I don't think I am. I more than sure I'm a Magical Girl." said Madoka with a small degree of uncertainty.
"It's just now that I think about it your powers feel and resemble those of Fallen Angels the most. Similar to a demon's power but nearly identical to a Fallen Angel's. Just what are you Madoka and how did you come to obtain these powers if you're human?" asked Asia.
"Demons? Fallen Angels? I have heard of Witches but not of those two before. If anything I should be the one asking you the questions Asia." replied Madoka with slight curiosity.
It seemed that there they were going to need to take some time to clear the air before they could continue any further. Still Asia did not want to get completely off topic and decided to get back to what started this conversation to begin with.
"You told me that showing me this power would give me a clearer idea about why you wanted to stay here at the church. Why is that?" asked Asia.
Madoka's face turned dark as Asia brought this up. The entire time Madoka had returned she had seemed out of sorts. What exactly had she seen out there?
"I-I had a terrible encounter with someone. He was going to kill her and I tried to stop him. I did but...I couldn't kill him and he ended up escaping. I made a new friend today Asia and she is the girl who happened to scream just earlier. I saved her life but I couldn't kill the one hurting her. I know that he'll be back. You don't have stay if you don't want to Asia but I am. I have to protect her and all the other children here from that terrible person when he decides to come back." said Madoka with resolve.
Asia was beginning to understand why Madoka was acting the way she was earlier. The person she saw must have been quite terrible to frighten her despite all the power she possessed. She also knew that Madoka was letting her leave because there was a good chance that they would be in danger. Asia appreciated the offer but knew that she couldn't abandon her first and only friend.
"I'm not going anywhere. You're my friend and if anything happens to you then I want to be there to help. I may not have super powers like you but at the very least I can make sure that stay alive."
The Magical Girl could feel the tears beginning to brim from her eyes. She was so happy that Asia was going to stay regardless of the danger. Since the death of her friends she had felt so despondent and hopeless. Kyoko, Mami, Sayaka and her love, Homura, were all cruelly ripped away from her and here she was the last Magical Girl to ever exist. Never had she felt so alone.
Yet here was this kind nun who did everything she could to see her through. She had healed her wounds, fed her, confided in her and even comforted her. They had only known each other for a day and already Madoka counted Asia as a dear friend.
Madoka went forward as she placed her two hands on Asia's shoulders as she started to weep softly.
"Thank you...thank you for staying by me. To be honest I'm not sure if I could even do this alone. This may sound selfish but please I ask you. Don't leave me. If you were taken from me then I wouldn't even know what to do."
Asia could tell that Madoka was still in such horrible pain from losing the one she loved. The nun knew that couldn't relate entirely to Madoka's sorrow but at the very least she could be there for her.
"You have nothing to worry about. I'm not going anywhere...I promise."
Author's Note: Yes I know a very sappy chapter that doesn't have Spawn in it but Madoka is a very important character and that will be realized as the story moves along. That being said I want to address something. Madoka isn't godly, at least, not yet. That time will come eventually but Madoka will have to suffer many trials in order to obtain that power she had in canon. I might have undersold Overtkill a bit but believe me he will make a return and there will be Hell to pay lol. Look forward to Spawn and some more insight on the DxD characters come next chapter (which, I promise will be at the end of this week or the start of next week). Anyway let me know what you all think.
