Jack and Roxanne were looking at each other as time stood still, the cursed boy and the smartest girl that was once his partner from back then.

In the past Roxanne was the most respectable student in school, as she had the highest grades and learned from her mistakes quickly enough to overwhelm an opponent. Jack was the opposite of her in a way, he wasn't respected in the slightest, his grades were actually pretty close to Roxanne's and could quickly dispatch an opponent before he could relax or think a good plan to stop him.

You could say they were rivals in a way. Roxanne didn't acknowledged Jack good enough to be her rival or to deserve her respect, he didn't really care much for it anyways since everyone treated him the same way except for Lilly that at the time was his only friend.

One day the teacher decided to pair the two together to see the results of either.

Flashback

"What!?" Yelled Roxanne like she was offended from what the teacher just said.

"Your to work together with Jack to test both of your partnership." Repeated the teacher to Roxanne looking at her in a shocked way. "Is that alright with you Jack?" She asked him that shrugged his shoulders.

"I don't mind although i would be more comfortable with someone I enjoy staying with." He said while only taking a glance from Lilly, she apparently faintly blushed since she knew it was her that he was talking about.

"I would say the same!" She yelled not wanting to be his partner.

"Everyone was already tested for their partnership, you two are the only ones left to test. You two will be together for a week, after that said week I will evaluate how you two will do." Finished the teacher to the both students, Roxanne gave a glare to Jack that just brushed it to the side. As if he already didn't get enough of those.

After school Roxanne was walking with Jack much to her displeasure, if they were going to show their partnership and have a good score they needed to stay together.

"Bark!" Barked the school Poochyena, Roxanne never liked that pokemon thanks to the fright that it gave her when it first appeared.

"Hey Poochyena how are you?" Asked Jack kneeling down and petting his head, she never understood why Jack would be kind to a pokemon that injured him.

"Bark!" He barked again signifying that he was well and glad to see him.

"You know you don't need to walk with me, you can do what you want until the week ends." Informed Jack to Roxanne, she disagreed to that.

"And lose a chance to get a good grade? Flat chance!" She yelled at him, normally she is calm with others but she despises Jack.

"Do what you want, I'm going to the school's training ground." He informed while walking not caring if she would follow him.

The school's training ground had a large variety of different types of pokemon, in here trainer students learn the abilities and how pokemon behave. This is where Jack passed most of his time trying to know the pokemon that reside.

"Hey guys its me again." Said Jack to the group of pokemon, they were a bit scared of him at first but then accepted Jack's good nature. A Taillow flew on top of his shoulder and rubbed his head on Jack affectionately. "Its good to see you too pal."

"How come those pokemon are so friendly with a monster like you?" Asked Roxanne surprised on how well received Jack is being.

"Because they know me better than anyone else, with the exception of my parents and Lilly." He informed while petting the Taillow and a Whismur.

"Know you better? What's left to known? Your a cursed boy that is just good with pokemon, end of point." She said before a Nincada used Sand Attack on her face. "What was that for!?" Asked the furious Roxanne getting an insect sound from the said pokemon.

"Pokemon tend to attack people for personal reasons, it looks like this Nincada didn't liked how you bad mouthed me so he used his Sand Attack on you." Pointed Jack out as he knelt down on his friend. "I know you don't like it when people call me names, but don't worry I'm already used to it so don't start a fight with them okay?"

"Nin." Said Nincada with a nod, he seemed sad though that Jack had to suffer the names.

"I'm sorry for what Nincada did, he was just trying to defend me." Apologized Jack with a short bow, he didn't really care if she would accept them or not he just wanted to spend some time with the pokemon.

"As long as it doesn't happen again then its forgiven." Responded Roxanne sensing the care that Jack must of given them for the attack to occur.

As the day passed Jack played with the pokemon as Roxanne just watched him, she was accompanied with her Nosepass. The pokemon looked really happy with the game of tag he was playing with them, she even considered to play with them if Jack wasn't around.

"Its getting late..." Said Jack as the sun was setting. "Sorry guys, tomorrow we'll play more." Announced Jack, most of the pokemon had a sad expression but they quickly shook it and presented a happy one.

"Oh shoot! My favorite tv show is on! Why do i have to stay with this cursed guy." She cursed at Jack while he walked past her and exited the gate waiting for her.

"If you hurry you can still catch it." Said Jack as she passed him with puffed cheeks, he then closed the gate and began walking while she was by his side.

"When i get home I'll only see the ending because Its already 6pm and the show ends in fifteen minutes!" Barked Roxanne at Jack, he didn't really care what she yelled he just wanted to dispatch of her as quickly as possible to return to his home.

"Where do you live?" He asked getting an idea on how to hurry.

"Why should I tell you?" She asked worried he might do something horrible to her.

"Do you want to watch your show or not?" He asked while scratching the back of his head in annoyance.

"Its the third house on the right up ahead." She said with some doubt to her trust in him. He then picked her up on his back. "What are you doing!?"

"To hurry up I'm going to carry you home, just hold on tight okay?" He told her, she then tighten her grip around his neck just enough not to choke him. "Alright, here we go." With that he enveloped aura on his legs and started to run as fast as a fitted adult, he knew he could only use this aura for only one minute so he made it count for her.

"We are going so fast!" She said while feeling the winds force hitting her face, it was pleasant for the both of them. He then turned to the right and saw the house she told him before, he had another 30 seconds before the time limit was over so he increased the pace. Blue sparks were already coursing on his legs signifying the pain was about to begin soon.

"Come on... Just a little longer..." He whispered to himself while feeling a tingly feel on his legs, soon they would be numb and he wouldn't be able to move them for an hour or so. The house was already a few steps away and his legs and fatigue were now catching him faster than he thought, then he reached her place and putted her down. "There your home, go watch your show." He said while forgetting to disperse the aura causing his legs to fail him.

"Hey you alright!?" She asked out of concern for him, she then noticed the blue sparks on his legs.

"Why do you care? I'm just a cursed monster in your eyes right?" He asked with a painful expression on his face, his eyes didn't emit any light as pain took him. He didn't dare to raise his face waiting for the confirmation.

"Nosepass take Jack inside the house and put him on the couch." She ordered her partner as she complied, she putted Jack on top of her head and walked inside the house while putting him on top of the couch.

"Thank you Nosepass..." Said Jack weakly while trying to suppress the pain on his legs that were emanating blue sparks from now and then.

"What are those sparks?" She asked a little ways away from Jack afraid it might hurt her.

"Why should i tell you?" He asked coldly towards her, if there was one thing Jack hated was to be questioned about his curse.

"I asked Nosepass to carry you inside my house to let you rest, the least you could do is answer my question." She said making her point to him.

"...*sigh* Its part of my curse, having these black eyes makes me to freely tap my aura and envelop any part of my body with. If i use my aura for more than 1 minute i suffer the consequences." He answered with a defeated expression towards her.

"W-what are the consequences?" She asked while stuttering a bit, what she was about to her would change her opinion on him.

"I will feel extreme pain on the region i directed it, the pain is so much that i won't be able to move that part for an hour until the pain goes away. Happy now?" He said annoyed to give answers about his curse.

"Even knowing that you did all this for me to watch the rest of my show?" She asked out loud to him, he just raised an eyebrow to her.

"You wouldn't shut up about this tv show so i thought it was worth it enough to do it." He answered her with an annoyed tone to her. "Once I'm good enough I'll show myself out."

Roxanne turned the tv on which was showing her the show she wanted to see, the show was called 'Learning your pokemon'. It basically consisted of a trainer explaining everything about a pokemon, its type, abilities and their good spots while pointing his bad ones. Once the show ended there was 45 minutes left before Jack could use his legs again.

"Where do you live?" Asked Roxanne out of the blue, since it wasn't anything related to his curse Jack answered.

"Oldale Town." He said in a monotone tone to her.

"You live so far? Aren't you afraid of the dark when your walking home?" She asked again, Jack couldn't understand why she wanted to know him.

"Why do you want to know me? Didn't you said a few hours ago that you didn't want anything to do with me?" He asked her with his left eye closed.

"If we are going to be partners might as well try to learn something about you, even if its just a little bit." She replied a little shyly to him.

And so for the last four days Roxanne kept asking Jack a barrage of questions about him, he kept it simple as to not reveal anything important. During this time Jack didn't so ask anything towards her respect, she noticed that but kept quiet about it.

"Do you hate me?" She asked all of a sudden to Jack.

"Where did that come from?" He asked taken off guard from the question.

"Just answer it, pretty sure you hate everyone though." She said quickly glancing at him for a second.

"I don't hate anyone, sure kids and adults call me names and such but that isn't a reason to hate them. They annoy me with it that's all." Explaining Jack to his 'partner' to which now understood why Jack never had an outburst, or expressed anger. He was simply being the mature one while others weren't.

"Jack lets have a pokemon battle." She requested him to his surprise.

"Partners shouldn't battle, isn't that what you said before?" He repeated her words spoken two days ago.

"This is different now, come on choose a pokemon from the training grounds." She rushed him to the said place while holding his hand, Jack just pushed to the side the fact they were holding hands.

"Taillow!" Yelled Taillow as he flew to Jack's shoulder as he always has.

"Hey buddy good to see you again." Said Jack petting him with his free hand, Poochyena was also by his side.

"Choose anyone to battle my Nosepass." She hushed him, he quickly glanced to the available pokemon but he already knew who he wanted to be his partner.

"Poochyena, want to be my battle partner against Roxanne?" He asked while kneeling down to the dark pokemon.

"Bark!" He barked happily signifying that he wanted.

"Lets go to the battle ground." She said and went to her side, Jack did the same. "The rules are simple, first pokemon to be unable to battle anymore is the winner." She explained to Jack to which he agreed.

"Hey Roxanne and Jack are going to have a pokemon battle!" Yelled a kid from the school, soon the place was full of kids cheering for Roxanne. "Come on Roxanne kick that cursed boy out of the school!"

"You can win Jack!" Cheered Lilly behind Jack, he had a small smile when he heard her cheer to him.

"You can have the first move Jack." She told him, he gladly accepted it before Poochyena could be in his battle stance.

"Poochyena go in your battle stance." He told his temporarily partner to which he complied. "Okay Poochyena use Sand Attack." He calmly ordered to him making him throw sand to Nosepass's eyes.

"Nosepass use harden!" She ordered making Nosepass's defense go up. "Now use Tackle on Poochyena!" She started to charge against Poochyena.

"Poochyena dodge it and go behind Nosepass then use Bite." Jack calmly ordered his partner doing exactly what he said, since Nosepass can only turn around sideways he already knew his great weakness.

"Nosepass use Rock Tomb on yourself!" Ordered her to Nosepass, she summoned boulders and dropped them on top of herself also hitting Poochyena in the process but not trapping him.

"Poochyena use Howl until Nosepass is freed." He calmly said with a plan already in his head. Poochyena used Howl three times sharply increasing his attack power before Nosepass was freed.

"Nosepass use Tackle!" Said Roxanne confident that Poochyena would fall after the attack.

"Poochyena use Sand Attack on the ground." Poochyena did as Jack said making dust arise creating an artificial smokescreen on the battle field.

"He's cheating!" "What a low trick!" Said the kids angry to what Jack ordered making both parties unable to see.

"Nosepass keep going until you hit Poochyena!" Ordered Roxanne now desperate since she couldn't see where they were.

"Poochyena dodge to your right then use Odor Sleught to know where Nosepass is, use Bite when you know do." Ordered Jack knowing full well that Odor Sleught will pinpoint where Nosepass is and get the attack.

"Nosepass use Rock Tomb on yourself again!" Roxanne said now in a panic, but no Rock Tomb came. "Nosepass?" She called her pokemon, once the dust settled Poochyena was on top of her pokemon with a eyeing down. Jack won the match against a owned trained pokemon.

"Good job Poochyena! I knew you could do it!" Cheered Jack to his friend were he jumped at Jack with a happy expression while licking his face.

"I can't believe it... He won against me." Said Roxanne falling to her knees bewildered, she and Jack were the only ones in school that weren't beaten. Now it was only him that was unbeatable, he then went to the Nosepass.

"You were a great opponent Nosepass, the hardest one i fought with." He said to the Pokemon that was on the ground while helping her up, he then walked with her to Roxanne.

"Came to rub it on my face?" She asked with her stare downwards to the ground, she then noticed that his hand was extended to her. She looked up and saw a warm smile, the first one she ever saw from him.

"You were the toughest opponent i faced Roxanne, if i didn't told Poochyena to use Bite you would of won." Explained Jack helping her stand up. "I'll see you around." He then walked off with Poochyena by his side to the other pokemon of the school.

"Roxanne he cheated didn't he!?" "I bet he did! No one can beat Roxanne!" Yelled the other kids with a strong belief that Jack cheated in some way. Roxanne just saw Lilly following Jack a little ways behind. "Roxanne?" The kids called as they saw Roxanne following Jack after recalling her partner.

"Jack that was amazing! Your the strongest kid in school!" Praised Lilly to her friend, he only smiled since not many would do.

"I'm not the strongest, they are." He pointed to the pokemon that were around him. "They do all the work, I just tell them what to do. A trainers role is to tell their partner what to do so that they don't get too tired or too damaged, the rest is all their work." Praised Jack to the pokemon embarrassing them.

"So cool..." Said Lilly to the humility of Jack's soul to the pokemon, suddenly Poochyena started to emit a bright light from his body.

"Poochyena's evolving!?" Said Jack surprised of the sudden evolution.

"What's going on!?" Yelled Roxanne surprised of the bright light that came from nowhere.

"*Howl*" Howled Mightyena that was the Poochyena from before, both Lilly and Roxanne were with their mouth open to the evolved pokemon that was the guard of the school.

"Congratulations Mightyena you evolved!" Said Jack hugging the now evolved pokemon, Mightyena just laid his head on Jack's shoulder with a smile.

After the event that occurred Roxanne left the trio with a smile and with the remaining days left the evaluation of partners came.

"Jack and Roxanne lets see how well you know each other first then we can begin with the pokemon battles." Said the teacher who called their names. "Roxanne you go first."

"I now know so many things about my partner, how he treats pokemon, how he plans his battles and how much more he really is." Sincerely answered to the teacher to which surprised her actually, none of the students for the exception of Lilly actually knew Jack since he always kept it for himself.

"Jack your turn." Ordered the teacher, Jack wasn't really focused on the class only staring at the window that he was close but he heard what Roxanne said.

"I learned nothing from her." Said Jack to the teacher, Roxanne looked at him with a look of disbelief. "Because I already knew everything about her." He finished his sentence, the teacher could only understand to that. Jack was always very observant so he could tell what people liked and didn't liked.

"You knew already knew?" She asked only to realize Jack never asked any question towards herself.

"From watching and battling you can understand and know another trainer, we were taught that." He replied to one of the very first lesson the teacher ever taught, for a second the teacher did a little jump for joy for Jack saying that.

"Okay now that we are done with that, lets begin with the pokemon battle. Both of you will do a double battle with another pair, they are ace trainers so don't be ashamed if you lose." Pointed the teacher to the male and female ace trainers.

"They look tough..." Commented Roxanne with a tinge of fear, Jack on the other hand displayed no fear only anticipation.

"Lets start, go Lunatune." Said the female trainer releasing a crescent moon pokemon.

"(A psychic and rock type pokemon...)" Thought Jack as he saw in a book the same pokemon.

"Go Kadabra." Said the male one releasing a pokemon with a spoon in his hand.

"(And just a psychic type... Nosepass could make some work against him for a while.)" He thought again planning ahead.

"Now who will you two chose?" Asked the male in a cocky way.

"Go Nosepass!" Announced Roxanne releasing her rock type pokemon.

"Interesting choice for a pokemon miss, what about you?" Asked the female to Jack with some caution. Mightyena then appeared after his duty was fulfilled scouting the school for any trouble and walked towards Jack.

"Hey buddy, I'm currently in a test against these trainers. Want to help me?" Asked Jack to his friend.

"Your just a kid, that pokemon won't listen to yo-" He was interrupted as Mightyena went into a battle stance after barking in agreement. "What!? How can he listen to you?"

"This Mightyena is the guardian of the school, everyone is always afraid of him for his power but with me he'll listen as he's my friend." Informed Jack as Mightyena howled in agreement.

"Jack I'm ready when you are." Said Roxanne after getting psyching up herself.

"I've got your back, lets see how we can handle against these so called aces." Taunted Jack to the aces, they were offended but after seeing the certainty on Jack's eyes they weren't sure anymore.

Present time

"Do you remember the partner test?" She asked to the now grown up cursed boy.

"How could i forget? Their shocked look after we defeated them was priceless." He responded to his once partner from six years ago.

"Miss Roxanne do you know him?" Asked a student with a little bit of fear of Jack.

"He was my colleague from the past, he's a very strong person." Responded Roxanne to the students question. "So what are you doing here Jack?"

"Just came to remember the memories and see Mightyena before challenging the gym." Answered Jack with honesty before the students looked at him with surprise.

"Your going to battle miss Roxanne?" Asked another student to which made Jack widen his eyes of the revelation.

"Oh you ruined the surprise James!" Said Roxanne with a tinge of pink on her face, the students then laughed at the sudden change from her seriousness to cuteness. The student named James just scratched the back of his head in an apologetic manner. "So who did you chose to be your partner?" Asked Roxanne now knowing that Jack was officially a pokemon trainer.

"Well i didn't chose any of the starting pokemon, just this one pokemon to be my invaluable partner. Come on they won't hurt you." Said Jack signalling to his partner, the students were waiting curiously to see Jack's partner that wasn't a normal starter.

"This is Absol, my partner. Say hi Absol." He said to which she was close to his leg.

"Ab..." She said shyly before she buried her face on his pants while sitting down.

"Oh so cute!" Yelled all the girls in unison while the guys just yelled. "So cool!"

"Please don't touch her okay? She is very timid and shy to people." Warned Jack as he didn't want the horrors to arise again.

"Where did you found this Absol!? I thought they were only found near Fortree City." Asked Roxanne since its true they are only in route 120.

"I found this Absol near the dock in route 121 six years ago, she's been with me ever since." Half explained Jack not to reveal anymore information than he should.

"Oh so that's why you left school after all these years." Said Roxanne now coming closer to Jack's ear. "Was it that bad?" She whispered in his ear.

"Humans nearly killed her with from hitting her." He whispered back to her, she could only be in shock.

"(For six years he's been treating her trauma from that day?)" She thought for herself until a howl could be heard from the hallway.

"I guess he picked up my scent." Said Jack as he was now outside the door that connected the class to the hallway, down the hall was the Mightyena that he knew from so many years ago. "Hey pal, its been a long time." He said as it echoed throughout the hallway.

"*Bark!*" Was heard as a dark pokemon tackled Jack down, all the student and his Absol went outside seeing the sight of a Mightyena licking his face and a laughing Jack like old pals finally seeing each other after a long time.

"Okay! Okay! I get it your happy to see me." Said Jack getting a non stop of licks and nuzzles from the wolf pokemon, i would be lying if i didn't said that Absol was a bit jealous.

The students just laughed at the sight, no exception to Roxanne too, she then took it upon herself to make a tour of the school to Jack with her students. There were so many classes that were remodeled, the battle ground was now equipped for any type of situation for a battle field and finally but not least the pokemon.

Once they saw Jack after six long years they all went to greet him with affection, the Taillow that always flew on his shoulder was now a Swellow, the Nincada that defended him was now a Ninjask and the Wishmur was now an Exploud. All of them were considered an Advance pokemon for students to train, Mightyena was the leader of the Advance to honor Jack and only Roxanne and Lilly were the only ones to use him since they were his friends the rest of the students he brushed off.

"So Jack" Started talking Roxanne to Jack with a serious tone. "Are you ready to challenge me?" She asked with a smile on her face, it would be like old times but this time on official grounds.

"You already know the answer." He said pulling down his scarf to reveal his warm smile.

I'll leave it here for now, sorry for the late post complications arrived so to make it up the next week (That will start tomorrow) I'll post two chapters. This will be the last of the flashbacks that I'm sure, and since nobody said anything about posting they're OC I took it by my hands and will not make a secondary OC to accompany Jack on his Journey. (No OC that is.)
