Hi guys! I almost forgot it was Sunday...heh heh. But I got an email for a follow alert, so thanks jessiek23! I would have been late were it not for you xD

Light and the members of the Task Force sat together around the dining table, eating quietly and murmuring to each other. The television blared behind them, with reporters and journalists discussing the big news over and over again. In the matter of two days, over seventy percent of the countries in the world had given in to Kira. The resulting chaos from the public felt like the end of the world. Both Kira supporters and anti-Kira protestors alike took to the streets, rebelling and fighting each other. Casualties grew each day as police forces struggled to reign in the battling sides.

The world seemed like it was going to hell.

"Welcome to Piers Morgan Live, today we're going to take a very good look at the war that is brewing all across the universe this very moment – the war on Kira. We have a very special guest today, Mai Yamada, who is a very well-known controversial journalist from the New York Times, as well an outspoken anti-Kira activist. Welcome to the show, Miss Yamada."

A light brown head looked up from his plate to stare at the television. He managed to restrain the shock from running through his features.

The other Task Force members looked just as interested in what was being televised. Their quiet conversations tapered off, and they all turned to watch the screen.

"Thanks for having me, Mr. Morgan." Mai glowed under the bright camera lights, and Light would deny that he ever described her as ethereal in his mind. "And please, call me Mai."

"Then I insist you call me Piers," he smiled kindly at her. "Let's get straight to business. Earlier today, your editor did something very interesting with his editorial. Why don't you tell us about it?"

Mai smiled and nodded her head eagerly. "We wanted to prove that no matter what happens and no matter how many countries bow to Kira, we would continue to report and publish unbiased facts on what was going on, benefitting Kira or not.

"Naturally a lot of people where afraid to continue publishing, especially if it was something that went against Kira. Those people had the chance to either quit there, or continue working in the shadows and from the safety of their homes with code names. The rest of us proudly plastered our names and faces on the editorial, along with reasons why we would still continue working in the open. It's a bit exhilarating, actually."

"That's very brave of you all at the New York Times, but why go to such extreme measures to prove that you are against Kira? Why not just keep that information to yourself and keep your head in the sand until this is all over and done?" Peirs questioned, leaning in forward.

Mai shrugged elegantly. "I could ask you the same question, couldn't I?" she countered, "Although you might not personally be anti-Kira, why risk having someone who is known to be on your show, when millions watch? Aren't you afraid for your life?"

"Oh dear, if I was, I would never have taken any of those judging positions, would I?" he said teasingly.

They shared a laugh together. Matsuda sighed dreamily at Mai's enchanting smile.

A moment later, they sobered up. "It's more than just our lives at stake, Piers. Since Kira showed up all those years ago, people have been willing to look away from all the murders, and turn a blind eye to all the suffering happening because of this man – woman – person.

"We at the Times – we want people to see what is happening to the world. The riots happening all over the world – do you think people would be this violent if Kira didn't exist? Do you think families would turn against each other so easily because their morals don't align perfectly? We want to show people the facts – it's only been two days, maybe even less since President Sairas declared total submission to Kira, and it's been madness since then. The world has only gotten worse since Kira, and he will never be able to make it a better place."

"You speak so passionately about this," he noted. He was right, her eyes shone brightly, and her hand was clenched into a tight fist close to her heart.

She blinked, then smiled sadly, "It's a journalist's curse to care too much at times, Piers. But yes, you're right. I'm not just anti-Kira because of everything I said previously. It's personal for me."

"Care to go further in depth?"

She bit her lip hesitantly, but took a deep breath. She turned away from Piers and stared straight into the camera.

"You killed my mother." With a jolt, Light realized that she was talking to him – to Kira. "My mother was Natsuki Yamada, do you remember her? She wasn't a criminal of any sort; you simply killed her due to whatever contract you had with Yotsuba, a minor rival for our family business in Japan. Before that, I knew nothing about you, to be honest. I was in college, partying and living the dream. When I received the call from my little brother about what happened –"

She broke off, her voice cracking. "I'm sorry," she whispered, "give me a moment."

"If it's too hard for you to speak about –" the host said compassionately.

"No, no," she responded, waving away his concern after she took a sip of her glass of water. "I've never really talked to anyone about this, not even my darling partner. What better time than to speak directly to her murderer?"

She turned back to the camera, "When I got the news, I went through a rollercoaster of emotions before I settled for vindication. You have robbed several innocent families of their loved ones, Kira. You hide behind the shadows like the coward you are, and declare yourself God."

She smirked, her amber eyes passionately alight. "You will never win. I win make sure of it. With every "victory" you have, I shall be there, reminding the world of what it has become because of you."

Piers stared at her in shock and respect. "How are you not afraid of being killed by him?" he questioned.

Mai laughed heartily. "I'd like to see him try, Piers. Let's just say I have my own personal security system for Kira specifically." She winked at the camera. Ryuk began to laugh so loudly that Matsuda snapped at him to shut up.

Light resisted the urge to throw his fist into the screen. The damn bitch! She knew…she knew all along that he couldn't kill her.

As Piers concluded the show and bid his viewers a goodnight, he made up his mind to contact her. He needed to kill her now more so than ever.

Sayuri stood at the doorway as Mai drove in, anxiously holding Tsuki in her arms and gesturing frantically at the ravenette.

"Oh my god Mai," she said, pulling her partner into a fierce hug. In her worry, she had slipped back to her native tongue. "That was so hard to watch. Are you okay?"

She pulled her away to take in the sight of the silent girl. Although her hair and makeup were still perfectly flawless, she didn't look as angelic as she had on the television. Her eyes were extremely red, and her face was pulled into a frown.

Mai sniffled. "I'm fine," she answered back in Japanese. "I just – there was a lot brought up that I didn't think I would ever need to think about. I'm just really tired now."

"Say no more!" the blonde declared, pulling her into the mansion and directing her to their bedroom. "Let's get you in bed, right this moment!"

After a few minutes of being fussed over, Mai slid under the covers. Sayuri joined her moments later, smiling softly at her.

Suddenly, Mai was struck with overwhelming love for the woman in front of her. She had been there for her, supporting her through everything, even if she didn't agree. Sayuri had become her rock ever since her mother's death, and she had never even thanked her.

"Sa-chan," she whispered, a hand reaching across to brush golden hair out of hazel eyes.

She was cut off by a kiss. It was slow and tender, and Mai felt her tension melt away. "Idiot," the blonde replied fondly against her lips. "I know."

That was all that needed to be said between the two girls.

Awh. They're so cute! Too bad Mai and Light are gonna end up together. *sigh*

So I'm stalling their first(-ish) meeting, I know. But I can't just ignore everything in the freaking story (Misa, SPK, Taskforce, the list goes on...) so I need to take care of things for Light! Since he can't do it on his own...But it's soon, I promise
