The next morning Lilah got up early and went through, what had become her normal routine now that she had been back home for a month. Her usual routine consisted of getting up around seven a.m. taking a shower, getting dressed, getting the paper, and stopping at the café for a coffee; before making it into the office by eight a.m. She was always the first one in the office at eight. Her current partner Robert Reid didn't come in until nine thirty, which meant that Lilah had the whole practice to herself for a bit every morning. Today was no exception; Lilah was sitting in what used to be her father's office and she looked around the room. She noted that even after all this time Reid hadn't moved or changed a thing in her father's office which she was very thankful for, because she loved it just the way it was.

As she sat in the office looking through her email she found her thoughts drifting back to how things had been when she was a little girl, and life was still great. Since leaving Los Angeles and having gotten used to the slow pace of this place again, she found that in some ways she regretted the decision to ever say yes to Wolfram and Hart. It had seemed like the best choice at the time of course, but thanks to Wesley Lilah had learned that she'd had other options, less life threatening ones that she probably shouldn't have turned down at the time. That was all in the past now and she was living with said past choices at least she was out of the firm and still alive, that in itself was nothing short of a damn miracle.

Lilah was broken out of her deep thoughts when Reid knocked on her office door. "Hey Lilah, I'm headed out to the dinner to grab some food, you want anything?" he asked as he leaned against the doorframe. Lilah looked over at him for a long moment before she spoke. She couldn't help it; every time she looked at him she saw a much younger less haggard version of himself. So it always took her a second to remember that it had been a hard few years for him too. "No thanks I'll just get something later promise." She smiled, before going back to checking her emails. Reid nodded and smiled back at her. He'd really missed her and was beyond thrilled when she'd showed up a month ago and asked him if she could take over her dad's half of the practice. "Okay, I'll be back in a few then." With that he left the office and headed out to the diner to get some food.

On his way over to the diner across the square he couldn't help, but notice the rather out of place newcomer who was standing near his office, looking rather intently at the building. Reid decided to see if maybe he was lost or something, so he walked over to him. "Hi there, can I help you with something? I don't mean to be rude or anything, but you seem kind of lost..." Reid said as he got a closer look at the man in question. Reid saw that he had been right the guy wasn't a local, mostly because he knew everyone in town and would've remembered a guy like the one standing in front of him.

Wesley was only a little startled when the man spoke, he didn't think anyone would notice him really. He realized now how stupid a thought that was, considering where he was now. He looked at the man that had just spoken. "Um… I was just..." He sighed and decided to try again. "I was just trying to work up the nerve to go into the law office…" Yeah he'd spent most of the morning trying to get up the nerve to leave his motel room and venture into the town square. Reid smiled warmly at him, noting his British accent. "Oh were you looking for me or Lilah? Wait don't answer that I think I can guess…" He looked over to his office building. "Lilah's there if you want to go see her, or if you're not quite up for that you're more than welcome to join me for a drink at the diner and we can talk..." He smiled again. "I'm Robert Reid by the way it's a pleasure to meet you." He held out his hand.

Wes thought it over as he listened to Reid talk. After considering his options carefully he shook Reid's hand. "I'm Wesley Wyndam Pryce, and yes I came here to see Lilah, but I'm not entirely sure she wants to see me; and I've waited this long so I guess getting a coffee couldn't hurt…" He and Reid headed over to the diner. Once they were seated at a corner booth and each had a coffee in hand, Wes decided to ask him a question. "If you don't mind my asking, how do you know Lilah?" Wes sipped his coffee while he waited for an answer. Reid looked Wes over thoughtfully as he slowly sipped his coffee. "I'm her father's business partner, I own half the practice and I've known Lilah her whole life. How exactly do you know her?" He asked Wes.

Wes decided to give him the same answer that he'd given the woman who ran the motel. "I'm a friend of hers from LA and I'm in town to see how she is." He drank some more of his coffee. Reid sat back in his seat looking hard at Wes. "You're a terrible liar; I can tell you're more than just her 'friend' mainly, because she doesn't have many and I've heard your name come up a few times since she's been home."

Wesley sighed heavily. "Alright, yes we're more than friends, but I did come all this way to see how she is." Reid simply nodded in reply and drank more of his coffee. Wes was getting that sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach and he was starting to regret having come here without at least trying to call first.
