And now with that covered, please enjoy the final chapter of Just A Typical Weasley Christmas, Right?
The Attack of the Christmas Tree
My blood ran cold. Someone else knew, and by the sound of his voice it was someone who was notorious for ratting out couples' secrets. He was the one who told us about Vic and Teddy after all.
"James," I said uneasily. He materialized out of what appeared to be thin air, but was actually a secret niche in the corridor that was just big enough for one person. What? You really thought that the Burrow wouldn't have secret passages, doors and the like? You've forgotten that this was where the Weasley twins were raised. They made a few er-adjustments to their beloved home. And I, being the prankster that I am, found most of them by the time I was five. I've always had a bit of a knack for spotting what's fake.
He leaned against the wall, proudly wearing a smirk. He opened his mouth to say something but he changed his mind. Instead the still-pink James smiled mischievously and sprinted downstairs. The four of us froze, our mouths open in shock. James was going to tell everyone.
"James!" Lily, Al, Alice, and I shouted in horror before sprinting after him.
When we got downstairs it seemed like James had already told everyone everything. Al opened his mouth to speak, but I stomped on his foot before he could say anything. We didn't know what they knew yet. For all we knew, he could have announced just about any juicy piece of blackmail he had on someone, initiating the stunned gaping-fish reaction from my family members. Also, James might not have pieced together that Scorp, Lily, and I were the Masked Marauders. I looked nervously around the room, trying to gauge how furious everyone was. I was distracted from my calculations by a very unexpected sound: bubbling laughter. I looked around for the source of the curious sound and found that it was coming from Uncle Harry and Aunt Ginny. They desperately tried to calm themselves, but their laughter only grew more and more.
"I told you so, Ron," Uncle Harry wheezed in between bouts of laughter.
"I knew they'd end up together ever since you told Rose 'Don't get too friendly with him, Rosie. Granddad Weasley would never forgive you if you married a pure blood,'" Aunt Ginny finished, using air quotes and comically attempting to mimic my dad's voice.
My dad scowled, obviously not in the mood to be told he was wrong. I flinched at the scathing look my dad sent my way, only to discover that the look wasn't directed at me, but at someone behind me.
I wheeled around, dread weighing my stomach down as I guessed who could procure that reaction from my dad. The "misdoer" smiled sheepishly, enduring the heated glares from most of my family members, before coming up beside me.
"What the bloody hell were you thinking?" I scream-whispered to him. "This isn't exactly the best timing you've ever had, Scorp."
"Yeah well, your dad sent an angry floo message saying to come over here. He used some words that would cause my mum to scrub my mouth clean if I ever repeated them," he muttered to me, causing my dad's expression to darken even more.
The silence was deafening, the tension palpable. Unable to stand it any longer, I cautiously said, "So dad-"
"Are you pregnant?" My dad cut me off. His statement caught me off guard, completely bewildering me.
"I don't look pregnant, do I?" I side-whispered to Scorp.
"'Course not. You look as amazing as ever," he replied, causing me to blush, which kindled my dad's fury.
"Are you going to answer or not? It's a simple question," he questioned angrily. I scowled.
"Of course not," I reassured. He visibly relaxed.
"Good cause I thought-"
"That I was only marrying Scorp because I was pregnant?" I finished.
"Ro-" he started.
"You didn't think that maybe, just maybe I agreed to this because I was in love with him," I asked, my voice dangerously low.
"In love with-" He stammered, looking completely horrified. He was acting like it was impossible that a Weasley would ever fall for a slimy, no good Malfoy.
"This is just because he's a Malfoy, isn't it?" The realization dawned on me. "This is all because of this idiotic rivalry! You even said things changed! Just when I thought things were actually going to be better between us this is what happens," I shook my head at him. My mum must've took one look at my dad and determined that he wouldn't say anything without making things much, much worse, so she stepped in.
"Rose, you know your father isn't the most tactful-"
"Oi!" My dad complained.
"Come on Ronald, you know it's true," she replied. "Rose, I don't doubt that the two of you are in love, but you must admit that you're a bit young to get married. You haven't even graduated Hogwarts yet. You're only eighteen years old, Rose," she finished. Her words struck true. I was left dumbfounded. Merlin, what were we thinking? I didn't doubt that I loved him, but we hadn't even graduated yet. Leave it to my mum to talk some sense into me.
"What I want to know is why is it that everyone wants to get married so bloody early?" My dad interrupted. "You and HIM," he scowled at Scorp (Merlin, Dad had to grow up), "Al and Alice-"
"Well actually, Al and I aren't engaged yet," Ali jumped in. Al grinned madly at Ali's last word: yet.
I took a deep breath, building up the courage for what I was about to do, but it seemed like I didn't have to. It appeared that Scorp had read my mind. He cleared his throat, and looked as though he was appearing in front of a firing squad. (Which wasn't that far off.)
"Mr. Weasley, could I please borrow your daughter for a moment?" He asked my father cautiously. My father shot him a glare that said 'if you even think about it, I'm going to feed you to the giant squid.'
Before my dad could respond Scorp said, "Thank you, Mr. Weasley." He grabbed my hand and led me over to the stairs.
"Oh my Merlin, I'm so sorry Scarlet. I didn't even ask if it was okay to bring you over here," he said, furious with himself.
"Hey," I rested my hand on his arm. He looked up into my eyes, my breath caught. I didn't think that I'd ever get used to his eyes. They were gray, the color of molten silver, but there was something in those eyes that I'd never be able to explain. They had this sort of spark in them, they were so alive. They were bursting with energy and emotion, so beautiful and intricate. And they took my breath away every time I looked at them. I'm not sure how long I stood there, just looking into his eyes. He made me such a sap. Merlin, I loved him. I felt myself blush and I cleared my throat, remembering the situation at hand.
"No need to be so hard on yourself, alright?" I told him, "I wouldn't have come over if I didn't want to and I would've said something. I'm right where I want to be." He smiled at me.
"You know I love you, right?" He said lovingly. My heart melted and it felt like my knees had turned to jelly.
"I love you too, but I really have to talk to you about something."
"Yeah me too, or else I wouldn't have have brought you over here while your dad so desperately wants to feed me to the giant squid," he joked. I laughed whole-heartedly and he joined in. We calmed down after a few minutes and teasingly waved at my fuming father.
"Rose," Scorp said seriously, "you can feel that the war's right on the horizon now, can't you?" I nodded, there was no use in denying it.
"And I know that there's not a great chance that all of us are going to come out of this unscathed," I added. I looked at all of my family members, terrified that this could be one of the last times all of us were together. "And even if all of us make it out it still won't be the same. This war will still leave scars the same way the last one did," I whispered in fear. Scorp and I shared a look. We both knew that we'd be in the middle of it, no matter the danger. There was no way that Rose Weasley and Scorpius Malfoy would be sitting on the sidelines while the ones we loved were in danger.
"And we both know we're not going to sit by and watch all the chaos happen around us," he said quietly, "and both of us know what that means." The unspoken words filled the silence: there was a huge chance that we wouldn't make it out of this was unscathed. Normally, this would cause other couples to rush to get married, but Scorp and I weren't like other couples. We didn't want to rush into a marriage just because of a war. We wanted to get married on our own terms and that was exactly what we were going to do.
"We can't get married until after the war," I accepted, nodding. To be perfectly honest, I was a little disappointed. I truly wanted to be with Scorpius but I knew that we shouldn't get married yet. He nodded to me, he knew that this is what we had to do.
"I am hopelessly and completely in love with you, Rose Weasley." he told me sincerely. I shot him a watery grin.
"And I you, Scorpius Malfoy," I replied. I made a move to take off my engagement ring, but he stopped me. I looked at him curiously.
"I know we're not engaged anymore, but would you mind still wearing this?" He asked. I shot him a confuzzled look. I had no qualms about wearing the ring. Merlin, I really wanted to wear that ring. But why would I wear it if we weren't engaged anymore?
"Not as an engagement ring, more as a promise ring; a promise for someday. That once we get out of this war I'll be able to give you a proper proposal. I still want to marry you, Rose, that is if you still want to," he explained.
"Of course I still want to marry you! Why do you think I agreed in the first place?" I asked him, incredulous. He shrugged like he honestly couldn't fathom why I'd want to marry him.
"It's because I love you, idiot! I've already told you this, you moron. Now enough with the stupid questions!" I shouted, not even caring that all of my family could hear me. It's not like it was a secret or anything. He grinned at me widely.
"What?" I asked, cocking my head.
"You managed to turn two insults into terms of endearment in one go," he teased, completely failing at holding back his bouts of laughter.
"Oi! Shut it you!" I said, laughing. I hit him playfully. He laughed even harder, tears of mirth streaming down his face.
"It's a new record!" He screamed. I dissolved into hysterics. He picked me up by my waist and spun me around. "Rose Weasley everyone! World record breaker and my girlfriend!" He whooped proudly, teasing. He set me down, and I gave him a bear hug. I laughed in his ear, his chest shook from his laughs. He pressed a kiss to the top of my head and I held him tighter, not even minding that I could feel my dad's death glare from here.
"Remember, Scorp, I love you until infinity and back. Never forget that," I sincerely expressed to him.
"I wouldn't even dream of it and I love you more than words can even describe," he replied. He pulled me even closer; arms wrapped tightly around my back, his face buried in my hair. I wrapped my arms around him; breathing him in. He smelled of grass, wood spice, and Scorp. We stood there, cherishing this moment. Both of us desperately memorizing every detail of this memory, never wanting to let go and end this moment.
"GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY DAUGHTER YOU GIT!" My dad bellowed vehemently. We jumped apart. So much for our moment. Oh Merlin, he was outraged. I'd never seen his face turn that color red before. Hell, I hadn't seen anyone's face turn wine red before. And that's when all hell broke loose.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN'T FIX ME? I DON'T WANT TO STAY PINK FOREVER! DON'T YOU HAVE A COUNTER-CURSE OR SOMETHING?" James screamed at Domi. She grinned mischievously.
"OH MERLIN YOU DO HAVE IT! CAST IT DOMI OR I'LL TELL EVERYONE WHAT REALLY HAPPENED!" Domi paled and quickly cast the counter-curse. However, we didn't get to wonder about what she was hiding for long.
Suddenly, a deafening BANG came from upstairs. Everyone instinctively looked at James and Fred, but they looked as clueless as everyone else. Scorp and I took one look up the nearby stairs and hastily dove out of the way. A myriad of claws and feathers bowled down the stairs. Lily's cat, Earl Gray, apparently had fulfilled her life-long dream: to get to Scorp's owl, Athena. Lily and Hugo's best friend, Leanne, likened their relationship to that of the Muggle cartoon Tom and Jerry. Scorp and I rushed forward and tried to pry the cat off of Athena.
The owl desperately tried to fly away, but the cat grabbed onto her leg. Somehow, Athena stayed aloft but she was unable to control her flight pattern. The pair performed countless high dives, corkscrews, and somersaults, which would have been impressive in any other circumstance. Currently, we were too busy dodging them to marvel at this unlikely dynamic duo's aerial performance. Scorp, Lily, and I flipped the couch over and took cover under it. Several family members fumbled for their wands but couldn't get a clear shot without hitting someone in the process. Others followed our lead and flipped over some other furniture to protect themselves from the flying duo.
The pair rammed into the Christmas tree and the massive evergreen started to topple over, headed straight for the table Lucy and Roxy were hiding underneath. Lucy and Roxy tried to scramble out from underneath the table but they noticed the tree too late. My eyes widened. They weren't going to make it out in time. Scorp shot up and yelled, "Reducto!" The tree reduced to dust. Everyone let out a sigh of relief, happy that Roxy and Lucy were safe. But then I saw an unwelcome sight: The dynamic duo were flying full force right at Scorp.
"Scorp!" I screamed and I tackled him to the ground. I made sure he was okay. Then, furious, I jumped to my feet and shot a stupefy jinx at the pair. My spell hit its mark and the pair dropped like a rock and hit the floor with a loud bang. Everyone tentatively peeked over their respective pieces of furniture, and we all let out a collective sigh of relief. Everyone was alright.
An hour later, the living room was repaired, the dynamic duo was separated, Lily had apologized countless times for her cat's behavior, Scorp and I explained to my confuzzled family that we were no longer engaged, and we all calmly sipped hot chocolate around the dining room table. This Christmas was anything but typical: filled with fake proposals, engagements, bets gone wrong, pink people, owlsickles, vengeful snowballs, unengagements, and a flying cat. But then again, I wouldn't have it any other way.
IMPORTANT: Oh Merlin, I finally finished a story. As I said before don't fret yet because I've got a master plan...that I'm still working the kinks out of but it's a plan nonetheless. So you probably noticed Rose and Scorpius mentioning the "oncoming war", yeah? Well, yes, they did if you didn't catch that. So I started thinking and I decided to make this story part of a larger story. Though it wouldn't start here it would probably begin long before this and go until after the war. But here's where things get tricky. I was thinking that I'd have one main overlying plot: the war. I'd write several different stories, each with this overlying theme, in different characters points of views. These would be separate stories. Have I lost you? I'm sorry if I have. It'll make more sense when and if this happens. For example, I was thinking I'd write one in Vic's POV, one in Domi's, another in Fred's, a fourth in Rose's, and a fifth in Leanne's POV. You guys probably have absolutely no idea who this "Leanne" character is, but she's Hugo and Lily's best friend who is also muggleborn and she's my OC. Again, all this is subject to change. It might just end up as a bunch of one-shots. I honestly don't know. But good news! I've decided to write whatever it is I'm going to write BEFORE I start posting. That way the waits won't be so long and I'll just edit the chapters as I post them. Sadly, that means it will most likely be a while before I'll post the next story as I'll have to actually write all of it first. But I might post the occasional one-shot here and there...
As always, thanks for reading and please review. Goodbye for now!
